Of course, the answer is to go back to local food growing, local cooperatives, and leave the agribusiness monsters to their withered stock reports. We can feed everybody if it's not a for-profit corporate megabusiness. The ownership of the farm land is the crux. Allowing these huge corporate farms to take the farm land was a mistake. It can be corrected, but how can this be done in a good, kind, and gentle way. Wheat grows in the sun. Doesn't matter who "owns" the dirt. What matters is if the weather is stabilized, and the rains beneficial and timely. Getting the earth back in balance is way more important than the "balance sheets." Getting control of the fields is the key and it will happen because the corporations don't have enough enforcers. If people go ahead plant seeds, the food will grow. It's time for that. The harvest is ours, not theirs.

You are right Linda. The large corporate agriculture firms are no different than Big Oil, Big Pharma, Big Banks whatever, they are only concerned about their bottom line and will walk over whoever or whatever they can to achieve their goals.

It will be these large corps that are trying to ban organic gardening, home gardens, drinking unpasturized milk, having to buy genetically modified seed from the monsanto etc.

There are investors that are buying large tracks of farmland in the midwest and in South America simply on land speculation. The average farmer cannot justify these prices. Only large corporations.

The average farm size is going way up as the small mom and pop farmers are squeezed out of business. Many farms in southern ontario (Canada) are now in the 10000 acre range. These mega-farms are replacing 100 farmers at least.

Yes, exactly, Mj. Now, the focus must be on getting it back, bit by bit, inch by inch, if necessary. The sun will still be shining, and the dirt will still be there.

    Meteor spotted over Serbia
    12. November 2010.

The car is a brilliant meteor that is brighter than the planet Venus and is accompanied by sound effects that occur during its collapse, said Jelicic.

According to him, the observatory at Kalemegdan nothing out, but weather conditions were unfavorable, about an unusual phenomenon in the sky over southern Serbia have also expressed interest in the institution by many journalists.

Tanjug correspondent in Vranje reported that the light ball in the sky, tonight at 19.32 minutes was observed in several places in this part of the country.

    Meteor Fireball Explodes Over Netherlands

A fireball meteor zipped across the Netherlands sky Tuesday evening before exploding in to the North Sea, an expert says.

The Netherlands just escaped a natural disaster from a meteor. Many Dutch people in the Netherlands witnessed a large "fireball" meteor in the sky. In the north people heard a bang and saw flashes. Also on Twitter people reported on the phenomenon.

The Groningen astronomical Theo Jurriens confirmed that this was a very bright meteor and at one point burst into three pieces.

About one hundred reports have been received from people who have seen the fireball. From the north of the Netherlands there are reports of people who heard rumblings when the meteor passed by and buildings were shaking...(cont.)

    http://www.dutchdailynews.com/meteor-fireball-explodes-over-netherlands/

    http://regex.info/exif.cgi?b=3&referer=http%3A%2F%2Fi37.tinypic.com%2F9rrg4y.jpg&url=http%3A%2F%2Fi37.tinypic.com%2F9rrg4y.jpg

    Update:
The meteor exploded over northern Netherlands and the North Sea and caused an explosion that made shock waves.

The blast may have been caused by the meteor or the explosion because it was faster than sound with a speed of over 1200 kilometer per hour. KNMI does not know which of the two is the cause, but measurements seem to indicate that it is an explosion, because signals are recorded earlier in northern than in De Bilt Netherlands.

Observations indicate that the orbit of the meteor came from south to north. Further research is being made about the precise path of the meteor.

The seismometers of the KNMI, recorded the shock waves around 19.00. The institute was mainly received reports from Rotterdam and Groningen. In Groningen, the shock wave generated vibrations on the ground.

    EARTH CHANGES 2011 DAILY UPDATES - Page 20 Iida1
Above: a Taurid fireball photographed Oct. 28, 2005, by Hiroyuki Iida of Toyama, Japan.

Every year in late October and early November, Earth passes through a river of space dust associated with Comet Encke. Tiny grains hit our atmosphere at 65,000 mph. At that speed, even a tiny smidgen of dust makes a vivid streak of light--a meteor--when it disintegrates. Because these meteors shoot out of the constellation Taurus, they're called Taurids.

Earth is orbiting through a swarm of space debris that may be producing an unusual number of nighttime fireballs.

    Recent Fireball Sightings

Fireball reports, especially those made from the British Isles and nearby areas, are always welcomed by the SPA Meteor Section.

Below is a list of some of the fireballs reported to the Section recently. This list is updated as fresh sightings arrive, and mainly consists of those events seen away from the major meteor shower maxima (when fireballs are more common), unless the objects were not part of the meteor shower in question, or were particularly impressive. A "*" in the 'Magnitude and Notes' column indicates further details are given below the table.

You folks are getting all that rain due to the volcanoes that erupted in Russia pouring all that ash into the upper atmosphere.. hence more rain in the Northern Hemisphere. The other volcanoes erupting earlier in Iceland didn't help either. The planet is hotting up as the solar system moves closer to the galactic center where the cosmic rays are more dense. Hence a 20 percent increase in cosmic rays hitting the earth in the past two years heating up the interior of the planet which has resulted in increased volcanic global activity both undersea and on the surface. It is likely volcanic activity will continue to increase as cosmic rays continue to increase over the next 24 months while the solar system oscillates up and down through the galactic center moving into what is called the Photon Band, an area of highly charged particles, The Russian National Academy of Sciences in Novosibirsk, Siberia, have been carrying out little known research into the movement of our solar system through the galaxy. They have also found that we are moving into an area of space where the vibration is higher. The Russians have looked at the leading edge of this heliosphere, and they have observed glowing, excited plasma energy there. This plasma energy used to be 10 astronomical units deep (an astronomical unit is the distance from the Earth to the Sun, 93,000,000 miles). So ten astronomical units represents the normal thickness of this glowing energy that we used to see at the front end of the Solar System.

Today, that glowing plasma has gone to 100 astronomical units deep. …. that's a 1,000 percent increase in the overall brightness of the energy at the front end of the Solar System.

And this means that the Solar System itself is moving into an area where the energy is more highly charged. That higher-charged energy is in turn exciting the plasma and causing more of it to form, so you see more luminosity, more brightness. This energy is then flowing into the Sun, which in turn emits the energy and spreads it out along its equatorial plane, which is called the Ecliptic. This in turn is saturating interplanetary space, which causes the solar emissions to travel more quickly and charge up the energy on the planets.

NASA's Fermi Telescope Finds Giant Structure in our Galaxy

    EARTH CHANGES 2011 DAILY UPDATES - Page 20 498884main_DF3_Fermi_bubble_art_labels

"What we see are two gamma-ray-emitting bubbles that extend 25,000 light-years north and south of the galactic center," said Doug Finkbeiner, an astronomer at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics in Cambridge, Mass., who first recognized the feature." www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/GLAST/news/new-structure-briefing.html

This also excites the sun resulting in increased solar activity as well.

An active sunspot (1123) erupted early this morning (Nov. 12th), producing a C4-class solar flare and apparently hurling a filament of material in the general direction of Earth. Coronagraph images from the Solar and Heliospheric Observatory (SOHO) and NASA’s twin STEREO spacecraft show a faint coronal mass ejection emerging from the blast site and heading off in a direction just south of the sun-Earth line. The cloud could deliver a glancing blow to Earth’s magnetic field sometime on Nov. 14th or 15th. High latitude sky watchers could see auroras on those dates.

As one can see there is a lot going on in space affecting the galaxy, solar system and subsequently earth. The planet is expanding due to hotting up which is why increase in earthquake activity as well. And we know the sun is expected to go through a magnetic pole shift sometime within the next 24 months or so. Being in the Photon Belt brings not only an increase in gamma rays but also an increase in fireballs, comets and possibly astroids. Then there is the reality of Nibiru and the orbiting satellites that it has moving closer to our sun. Add to that the galactic wave and one can clearly surmise earth changes will only intensify throughout the coming months. I seriously doubt all of these events happening at once has ever happened before. Indeed these are exciting times.

Grímsvötn volcano (Iceland), update: uncertain signals about a possible new eruption soon.

Signals of a possible impending eruption at Grimsvötn volcano under the icecap of Vatnajökullremain remain uncertain. Scientist measured an increase in seismic tremor at Grimsvötn, probably caused by the meltwater flow increase, but no volcanic tremor. The composition of the meltwater indicates that much of the water has been melted caused by increased geothermal heat flow. No other signs of an impending eruption are detectable (so far).

In 2005, a gigantic, 35-mile-long rift broke open the desert ground in Ethiopia. At the time, some geologists believed the rift was the beginning of a new ocean as two parts of the African continent pulled apart, but the claim was controversial.

Now, scientists from several countries have confirmed that the volcanic processes at work beneath the Ethiopian rift are nearly identical to those at the bottom of the world's oceans, and the rift is indeed likely the beginning of a new sea.

The new study, published in the latest issue of Geophysical Research Letters, suggests that the highly active volcanic boundaries along the edges of tectonic ocean plates may suddenly break apart in large sections, instead of little by little as has been predominantly believed. In addition, such sudden large-scale events on land pose a much more serious hazard to populations living near the rift than would several smaller events, says Cindy Ebinger, professor of earth and environmental sciences at the University of Rochester and co-author of the study.

"This work is a breakthrough in our understanding of continental rifting leading to the creation of new ocean basins," says Ken Macdonald, professor emeritus in the Department of Earth Science at the University of California, Santa Barbara, and who is not affiliated with the research. "For the first time they demonstrate that activity on one rift segment can trigger a major episode of magma injection and associated deformation on a neighboring segment. Careful study of the 2005 mega-dike intrusion and its aftermath will continue to provide extraordinary opportunities for learning about continental rifts and mid-ocean ridges."

"The whole point of this study is to learn whether what is happening in Ethiopia is like what is happening at the bottom of the ocean where it's almost impossible for us to go," says Ebinger. "We knew that if we could establish that, then Ethiopia would essentially be a unique and superb ocean-ridge laboratory for us. Because of the unprecedented cross-border collaboration behind this research, we now know that the answer is yes, it is analogous."

Atalay Ayele, professor at the Addis Ababa University in Ethiopia, led the investigation, painstakingly gathering seismic data surrounding the 2005 event that led to the giant rift opening more than 20 feet in width in just days. Along with the seismic information from Ethiopia, Ayele combined data from neighboring Eritrea with the help of Ghebrebrhan Ogubazghi, professor at the Eritrea Institute of Technology, and from Yemen with the help of Jamal Sholan of the National Yemen Seismological Observatory Center. The map he drew of when and where earthquakes happened in the region fit tremendously well with the more detailed analyses Ebinger has conducted in more recent years.

Ayele's reconstruction of events showed that the rift did not open in a series of small earthquakes over an extended period of time, but tore open along its entire 35-mile length in just days. A volcano called Dabbahu at the northern end of the rift erupted first, then magma pushed up through the middle of the rift area and began "unzipping" the rift in both directions, says Ebinger.
Since the 2005 event, Ebinger and her colleagues have installed seismometers and measured 12 similar—though dramatically less intense—events.

"We know that seafloor ridges are created by a similar intrusion of magma into a rift, but we never knew that a huge length of the ridge could break open at once like this," says Ebinger. She explains that since the areas where the seafloor is spreading are almost always situated under miles of ocean, it's nearly impossible to monitor more than a small section of the ridge at once so there's no way for geologists to know how much of the ridge may break open and spread at any one time. "Seafloor ridges are made up of sections, each of which can be hundreds of miles long. Because of this study, we now know that each one of those segments can tear open in a just a few days."

Ebinger and her colleagues are continuing to monitor the area in Ethiopia to learn more about how the magma system beneath the rift evolves as the rift continues to grow.

Additional authors of the study include Derek Keir, Tim Wright, and Graham Stuart, professors of earth and environment at the University of Leeds, U.K.; Roger Buck, professor at the Earth Institute at Columbia University, N.Y.; and Eric Jacques, professor at the Institute de Physique du Globe de Paris, France.

Hmm...everything is red in this thread (or maybe it only looks like that to me?). Weird. Hypnotize

Went from 70 degrees on Thursday to nearly a foot of snow on Saturday. Maybe that's normal in some places, but here it's just...well...weird. Hypnotize

Mudra, I liked reading about the Ethiopian rift. The continent is splitting fast! Now, when they say that they think it will form a new sea, it makes me wonder. Will it be salt water and will it have to come up through the bottom (underneath)? Or will it pour in from the sides? I think I'd be hightailing it outa there!

    Report Topics:
Is the stability of the Earth's axis threatened by new mega-quakes now taking place around the world?
Report Update—Major World Quakes and Volcanic Eruptions in 2010 So Far

    Full Report:
On December 26, 2004, a 600-mile long section of the Indian Tectonic Plate, by sliding beneath the Eurasian/ Burmese Tectonic Plate Subduction Zone, shifted trillions of tons of rock resulting in a massive 9.3 magnitude earthquake which the U.S. Geological Survey estimated was equivalent to the energy release of 23,000 Hiroshima nuclear explosions.

This tremendous singular seismic event caused the entire planet to ring like a bell, as the shock wave moved through the Earth’s crust several times.

Within minutes, the mega-tremor—the epicenter of which was situated off the northwest coast of the Indonesian island of Sumatra—displaced several billions of tons of seawater, generating a series of major tsunami waves that raced across the Indian Ocean at nearly the speed of sound. They slammed into the coasts of 11 nations, in some cases up to 3,000 miles away, causing surges and swells nearest the epicenter between 50 and 80 feet high.

These resulted in the instant death of 150,000 people, as well as the permanent displacement of millions more amid the wide-spread unimaginable devastation. The eventual total, from both the immediate destruction and the after-effects of drowning, injury, disease, exposure and starvation, has been estimated as high has 300,000—making the Sumatra tragedy one of the deadliest quake-tsunami events in recorded history.

Just five years later, on January 12, 2010, a 7.0 magnitude quake struck the Caribbean nation of Haiti, with its epicenter only 10 miles southeast of the capital city of Port-au-Prince. This was the most powerful earth movement in this region for the past 200 years, killing outright an estimated 220,000 people and leaving well over a million more homeless.

The resulting aftershocks and continuing after-effects from injury, disease and starvation is still adding to the death toll two months later, despite the huge international rescue and relief efforts.

Just 46 days aterwards, on February 27, 2010, an 8.8 magnitude quake hit 56 miles northeast of the nation of Chile’s second largest city, Concepcion, and also generated a destructive tsunami along its Pacific coast. The U.S. Geological Survey estimated the Chilean event was 500 times stronger than what occurred in Haiti. This is considered to have been the most powerful tremor for South America in recorded history, and ranks among the Top Ten in the world over the past two millennia.

At this writing, the estimated official death count is at a thousand, but the rescue efforts are only now just beginning. The media images of large-scale devastation not only n Concepcion but also in the capital city of Santiago 200 miles away indicate that the toll is going to steadily climb far higher before a final assessment of this tragedy’s full extent can be made.

One preliminary survey puts the eventual total number of casualties between 100,000 and 500,000.

A very noteworthy discovery made by geophysicists at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California is that their computer models indicate the Chilean shock caused the Earth to be moved off its axis by 2.7 milliarcseconds or 2.1 inches, while the planet’s axis spin was shortened by 1.26 millionths of a second.

Because of the Chilean quake’s more concentrated energy output and its geographical position relative to the Equator, it had a greater effect on the planet than did the Sumatran 9.3 quake in 2004—that jolt shifted the axis by only 2.3 milliarcseconds, but did shorten the day by an increased 6.8 millionths of a second.

In the overall movements that daily take place throughout the globe due to the constant shifting of oceanic and atmospheric masses as the planet turns, such miniscule seismic effects are almost negligible. But they are potentially important nonetheless. Over time and persistent repetitions as is beginning to happen in larger and more frequent numbers, these could eventually set up a series of expanding ripple phenomena—like throwng stones into a pond and watching the various wave formations build upon each other.

Once an initial pattern is established, then even relatively smaller tremors can act as reinforcements. In between the Sumatran, Haitian and Chilean shocks were three major quakes in China in 2008, and a large one in Italy in 2009. Were there prolonged consequences from all these seismic events combined we as yet know nothing about?

And just what kind of subtle impacts do such almost invisible self-generating wave-shifts have on the subterranean redistribution of magma both within the crust and in the semi-liquid mantle below it? We have no way to anticipate these, let alone try to calculate their physical manifestations in advance.

What all this implies is that we have now entered a new era of Earth changes, one in which what was before considered mega-quakes of 7 to 9 magnitude that occurred only rarely, will now become the norm and begin to tale place more often. Expect to bear witness to the planet starting to shudder on its axis even more than it has already.

Judging on what has happened so far, we can expect future shocks to have significantly increasingly energy releases plus be focused into smaller areas—delivering a concentrated punch that will prove to be particularly deadly for heavily populated areas. All of the quakes of this type were triggered in regions already known to be prone to such occurrences, but never before subjected to such powerful outbursts.

This means that the next coming super-seismic events will be in similar paces of recognized past activities—in North America alone that cover the Pacific Northwest, California, the Midwest New Madrid Fault Zones, the St. Lawrence Seaway, New England and the Carolinas—which unfortunately is also inclusive of most major urban centers of the United States.Likewise, in Europe and Asia practically every population center either straddles an earthquake zone or is in close proximity to a seacoast or river estuary up which a potential tsunami could rush inland with devastating results.

Just as the twentieth century became known as the Age of World Wars, the succeeding century—the one we now live in—may be remembered as the Age of Global-Shaking Earthquakes.

Earthquakes of magnitude 5 – 5.9 have increased by 39 percent compared with same range of earthquakes over the last 10 years.

Earthquakes of magnitude 5 – 5.9 have increased by 63 percent compared with same range of earthquakes since the year 1900.

Earthquakes of magnitude 6 – 6.9 have increased by 30 percent compared with same range of earthquakes over the last 10 years.

Earthquakes of magnitude 6 – 6.9 have increased by 40 percent compared with same range of earthquakes since the year 1900.

The number of magnitude 5.0 to 6.9 worldwide earthquakes are showing a significant increase so far this year during 2010, and are up 51 percent compared with the same range and time span of earthquakes since the year 1900.

The number of magnitude 7.0 to 8.9 worldwide earthquakes appear to be slightly increased from historical averages.

In addition, there are now 400 volcanoes world-wide under close geological scrutiny to see what they are going to do next.

The number of eruptions in general are only slightly above average, but in certain troubled areas the numbers have increased dramatically, such as what is now happening in Indonesia and the western Pacific Ring of Fire.

Scientists are concerned that a near-future Krakatoa-like super-explosion (and subsequent mega-tsunami) could not only kill millions of potential victims outright, but could also catapult huge amounts of ash into the upper atmosphere and disrupt global temperatures and food production for decades to come.
