Tragedy struck yesterday in Mkomon District, Kwande Local Government Area, Benue State, a border community to Cameroun, when volcanic eruptions on a mountain claimed the life of one person as well as destroyed property worth millions of naira.

Saturday Sun gathered that the tragedy occurred while residents of the community were attending the annual thanksgiving service of the local church. Terzungwer Iorhemen, a member of the community, told our correspondent that midway into the thanksgiving service, vibrations on the earth overwhelmed the area, located at the Cameroun boundary.

Six months is all it took to flip Europe’s climate from warm and sunny into the last ice age, researchers have found.

They have discovered that the northern hemisphere was plunged into a big freeze 12,800 years ago by a sudden slowdown of the Gulf Stream that allowed ice to spread hundreds of miles southwards from the Arctic.

Previous research had suggested the change might have taken place over a longer period — perhaps about 10 years.

The new description, reminiscent of the Hollywood blockbuster The Day After Tomorrow, emerged from one of the most painstaking studies of past climate changes yet attempted.

“It would have been very sudden for those alive at the time,” said William Patterson, a geological sciences professor at the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon, Canada, who carried out the research. “It would be the equivalent of taking Britain and moving it to the Arctic over the space of a few months.”

His findings, published at a recent conference, reinforce a series of studies suggesting that the earth’s climate is highly unstable and can flip between warm and cold very rapidly with the right trigger.

Most such research is based on analysing cores drilled from ice or from the sediment found at the bottom of oceans or lakes. In such cores the ice or sediment is found in layers whose composition shows what the climate was like at the time they were laid down.

Ice cores drilled from the Greenland ice cap have already shown that the big freeze of 12,800 years ago — known as the Younger Dryas mini-ice age — happened fast but lacked the detail to pin it down precisely.

Patterson, however, obtained mud deposits from Lough Monreagh, a lake in western Ireland, a region he says has “the best mud in the world in scientific terms”.

Patterson used a precision robotic scalpel to scrape off layers of mud just 0.5mm thick.Each layer represented three months of sediment deposition, so variations between them could be used to measure changes in temperature over very short periods.

Patterson found that temperatures had plummeted, with the lake’s plants and animals rapidly dying over just a few months. The subsequent mini-ice age lasted for 1,300 years.

What caused such a dramatic event? The most likely trigger is the sudden emptying of Lake Agassiz, an inland sea that once covered a swathe of northern Canada.

It is thought to have burst its banks, pouring freezing freshwater into the North Atlantic and Arctic oceans, disrupting the Gulf Stream, whose flows depend on variations in temperature and salinity.

A single year’s disruption in the Gulf Stream could have been enough, said Patterson, to let ice grow far to the south of where it usually formed. Once it had taken over, the Gulf Stream was unable to regain its normal route and the cold took hold for about 1,300 years.

Ok so we have the oil in the gulf that is disrupting the gulf stream. We know that.

Also the erupting volcanoes and the ash that they are throwing up into the atmosphere is also not good.

As a farmer I remember the cold summer of 1992. It was a result of one eruption on Mount Pinatubo.
We called it the year with no summer here in Canada.

Ok so that was one volcano. Imagine the effects of many going off, combined with the disruption of the gulf stream. Better stock up on the fire wood and blankets.

'There was an explosion that sounded like it was from a war... and it got worse, the ash and debris raining down.'
Horror scenes greeted rescuers arriving at villages near Mount Merapi after the Indonesian volcano's worst eruption in a century last night sent the death toll soaring to 122.

Searing gas avalanched down the mountainside with a thunderous roar, torching houses and trees and incinerating villagers as they fled.

The injured - with clothes, blankets and even mattresses fused to their skin by temperatures reaching 750C - were carried away on stretchers following the first big explosion just before midnight.

Heezen and Marie Tharp to illustrate their recently-discovered ~65,000 kilometers (~40,000 miles) of midocean ridges (MOR) that almost completely encircle the planet. A white line has been added off the Asian trench system from Kamchatka down to the Mariana Trench, where the oldest known seafloor sediments on Earth, ~195-197 Ma (million years old), were discovered in 1992 by Nakanishi, et al. This gives an approximate age of 200 Ma for today's oceans. This trench system is very significant—it fits the western coast of North America, just as the eastern coast once conjoined Europe and Africa.

However, far more significant is the trench system encompassing the right-angled Vityaz-Tonga-Kermadec Trench, New Zealand, and Macquarie Ridge that ends in a distinct eastward curvature (white rectangle). This figure-7 or fishhook-shaped configuration clearly matches the western coast of South America from the notch at 20° South Latitude to the tip at 60° South Latitude, where it curves perfectly around Cape Horn. (This Australian trench is even more remarkable because it replicates the shape of the eastern coast of South America that once conjoined Africa as part of Wegener’s Pangaea [1912]. Two nearly identical major fractures in Earth's crust is a phenomenon worth further investigation.)

With this evidence in mind, look at the same map with the Asian/Australian trenches moved back to where they were~150 to ~200 million years ago—when all of today's oceans were in their infancy:

This modified map shows clear empirical evidence that Asia and Australia were originally conjoined with North and South America approximately 200-250 Ma, prior to creation of the Atlantic, Indian, and Pacific Oceans.

This earlier connection of Asia and Australia with the Americas is also confirmed geologically by the deep ocean trenches that delineate the Andesite Line containing andesite, the primary mineral of the Andes Cordilleran mountains running the length of South America. [Carey, 1976, p.256]

The evidence is empirical and the conclusions are obvious—the Earth ~200-250 million years ago was a single planetary landmass ~40% smaller than it is today, and at that moment in geologic time there were NO OCEANS!

Every island and seamount, and most of the water In today’s ocean basins that now cover over 70% of the planet, has evolved in the very short period of 200 million years! The Earth has been, and still is, steadily growing in size and expanding in diameter at an accelerating rate—contrary to what scientists believe because they are currently unable to detect and measure this relatively slow rate of growth.

The Kant-Laplace nebular hypothesis of the Solar System and Earth's rapid creation as molten bodies ~4.5 billion years ago cannot be true, and the evidence confirms the Earth is gradually increasing in size--one layer at a time--by constant accretion of mass from outer space--a process I call ACCREATION (creation by accretion).

The fallacy of the nebular hypothesis is shown very clearly in the physiographic cross-section of the Grand Canyon cliffs in Northern Arizona and the photo shown below. These layers were laid down (accreted) as solid matter, and none show signs of having been melted at any time. These layers are positive evidence the Earth has grown steadily over time.

The significance of these layers is that each one increased the radius of the planet by a small amount and provide additional proof the Earth (and all planetary bodies) originate as meteoroids (cometary fragments) that grow larger by gravitational accretion of dust and small particles, or by chance amalgamation with other (smaller or larger) meteoroids in their orbits around the Sun.

The bottom layers of the Grand Canyon, ~1.6 kilometers (one mile) down, go back in time almost a billion years to the Precambrian, leaving another ~6365 kilometers to Earth's center. This suggests the Earth could be much older than the 4.5 billion years now accepted as its age from radio-carbon dating of meteorites.

Very interesting explanation of the frequency change from 7.5 to 3500 Hertz . Also the interesting idea that we do not ascend but we get to be reunited with the higher part of our soul ! Radiation from the flare created a wave of ionization in Earth's upper atmosphere that altered the propagation of low-frequency radio waves. There was, however, no bright CME (plasma cloud) hurled in our direction, so the event is unlikely to produce auroras in the nights ahead. This is the third M-flare in as many days, and the strongest, from this increasingly active sunspot. So far none of the eruptions has been squarely Earth-directed, but this could change in the days ahead as the sun's rotation turns the active region toward our planet. Now might be a good time to sign up for space weather alerts.

Merapi volcano forces cancellation of Jakarta flights


Several airlines have temporarily suspended flights between Singapore and Jakarta because of volcanic ash spewing from Mount Merapi in central Java.

Among those affected were Singapore Airlines, Japan Airlines, Malaysia Airlines, Lufthansa and Cathay Pacific.

Merapi, one of the world's most active volcanoes, began erupting two weeks ago and has killed more than 130 people.

Airline officials say the ash is a safety threat and could damage aircraft.

Domestic flights have been unaffected.

Azharuddin Osman, director of operations for Malaysia Airlines, said "the volcanic ash presence in the airways surrounding Jakarta could cause severe damage to our aircraft and engines, which could impair the safety of our operations."

Indonesia has already been forced to close its international airport at Yogyakarta and divert flights to the nearby city of Solo. A Silkair flight to Solo was also cancelled.

Mount Merapi has been producing thick clouds of ash and superheated gases in its biggest eruption in a century. In addition to the loss of life, some 200,000 people have been evacuated from the area.

Hot ash
Officials say about 85 people died when the last major eruption on Friday blasted hot ash and molten debris into local communities. Scores more suffered severe burns.

A mass burial is being prepared for dozens of victims from the village of Argomulyo 18km (11 miles) from the crater.

Rescue teams were still picking through the rubble of villagers' homes on Saturday.

One rescuer, named Utha, told AFP news agency: "I found three bodies - a child, mother and father, still in their bed. They must have been sleeping when the hot ash struck their house.

"We also found a dead man with a phone still in his hand."

Land Emerges from Sea in Bali area 3/11/10- Speculation is that it's a volcanic cone

Well this is a weird one. In the region of sea around Bali a strange shaped bit of land resembling a volcanic cone has quite suddenly emerged from the sea, today apprantly. I know nothing about Geology but wouldn't something rather major need to be going on deep down in the Earth to cause this mound to emerge ? And could it be connected to everything else going on over there at the moment ? Carol, is that the top of a volcano in Hawaii? Is it gray because of ash? When I first glanced at it, my mind told me that it was a crack in a large bed of ice. It looks like the cracks in the ice on the Great Lakes in spring. I also checked out the weather report site at the link...and really, could the weather get any better than that? Who do you Really work for? The Chamber of Commerce for Hawaii, ha ha?

A huge sinkhole opened in the early morning hours Sunday in front of Brookings City Hall. The Pilot/Arwyn Rice

Elk Drive is closed between Fifth Street and Ross Road and is not expected to open for some time, Schaefer said.

There will be no easy fix, as water from broken culvert gushed through the deep hole, carrying away even more soil.

"This is going to be fairly extensive," he said. "It's very unstable ground and the weather isn't good."

A 20 foot by 30 foot sinkhole opened in front of Brookings City Hall overnight Sunday.

The 23-foot deep hole was discovered by Brookings police officers at about 1:30 a.m., Lt. Donny Dotson said.

City crews worked through the night to discover the extent of the damage and prevent the situation from worsening, Public Works Supervisor Bob Schaefer said Sunday afternoon.

"They were able to stabilize the walls a little bit," Schaefer said.

Police department offices are close to the opening. Police will monitor the hole hourly. If there are any changes to the hole, crews will return.

There is no immediate danger to city structure.

Indonesia rocked by second earthquake

A SECOND earthquake hit Indonesia last night, just hours after US President Barack Obama arrived for a brief visit as part of his nine-day tour of Asia.

The magnitude 5.2 earthquake hit at 7:39pm local time.

The earthquake struck at a depth of 69kms and about 193kms south-south-east of Jakarta, the Indonesian capital located on the northwestern coast of Java, according to the United States Geological Survey.

Earlier, a magnitude 5.1 earthquake hit western Indonesia.

That quake struck at a depth of 45km, around 167 kms southwest of Padang, in Indonesia’s eastern region of Kepulauan Mentawai at 6:16pm local time. The area is some 600 miles northwest of Jakarta.

Both quakes occurred shortly after Mr Obama arrived in the Indonesian capital.

The US president landed aboard Air Force One at 4:20pm local time as he continued his Asian tour ahead of this week's G-20 summit in Seoul.

It comes as Mr Obama may be forced to leave Indonesia ahead of schedule due to ash clouds caused by multiple recent eruptions of the island chain's most active volcano, Mount Merapi.

The 26,000 year solar winding (magnetic pressure) cycle, which is displayed to humans (and other life) here on terra in the form of the 'sun spot cycle' that is variously considered to be either 22 years or 11 years in length begins with the now, somewhat notorious, 87 day magnetic winding cycle.

This cycle is responsible for the volcano problems now facing the Indonesian populace. As forecast from the August 1, 2010 solar disruption, the Indonesian volcano eruptions and earthquakes commenced on schedule in advance of the October 27th day of the completion of the most recent 87 day 'bit' component to the larger cycle.

The next 87 day bit on this cycle completes on January 22, 2011. For many reasons, i suspect that the volcanic activity will increase (along with earthquakes and really strange weather) nearly 2/two weeks before that day. The 'anticipation' of the actual day of the winding lap (Jan 22) is due to the lack of release of the magnetic pressures affecting the sun, as well as the continuous build up of magnetic pressures here on earth.

The thinking is that as we progress further into each of these 87 day cycles, the amount of 'anticipation' and 'carry over' from previous cycles will increase. So as an instance, August 1 of this year produced only 5 days of geomagnetic affective actions, where the beginning of the next cycle that occurred on October 27 is *still* producing activity in the Indonesian islands. So as we progress into 2011, i suspect that the activity will join together at both ends such that between one cycle and the next full 87 day sun polar 'lap' cycle, the activity, with volcanoes and earthquakes and such, will continue without significant decrease.

It is my OPINION and personal conclusion that the most likely cycle for a complete 87 days of earth activity will be the cycle beginning on July 15th, 2011.

The thinking also is, that as each cycle is encountered in our progression through 2011, the amount of intensity of earth activity will escalate. Here at HPH we have some internal debate about how rapidly the escalation will progress, however the next 2/two cycles, that is to say, the ones starting on January 22, 2011, and April 19, 2011 will 'tell the tale'. That is to say, we should be able to plot/chart the activity levels of volcanoes and earthquakes from October 2010 through to June and then project the trend line for increased energies impacting our planet into late 2011 and 2012.

It is also our conclusion that the 26,000 years (approximately) larger solar cycle has, and is showing, definitive harmonics within the solar magnetic cycle. As the planets spread themselves out in a harmonic fashion, it should come as no surprise that cycles within the sun caused by the planets would also exhibit such harmonics. Soooo...the 26,000 year cycle has a 5th harmonic of 5115 years ....which is...guess what? the length of the Mayan Long Count calendar! And other harmonics (3rds, 8ths), as well as this 5th harmonic ALL show climate and crustal changes here on earth (historically). It is also our conclusion that these harmonics are manifesting in a scalar fashion and can be found down to the level of mere days.

So the warning to the residents of the Indonesian Islands, the Malay peninsula, and SE pacific plate regions in general is that this part of planet earth is currently demonstrating vulnerability to these solar effects, and as the solar effects will continue to escalate in frequency, duration, and intensity, changes to life patterns, locations, and requirements in the region should be considered. There will be many reasons that local officials and governments will NOT want to consider this warning, and my theory/conclusions. And i presume that they will argue very fiercely that my conclusions are incorrect. The next year will settle any such disputes. Any officials in the region are invited to contact me should they feel the need.

Next few bit days in the sun magnetic lap cycle:

January 22, 2011 (expect earth reaction from January 7 onward).

April 19, 2011 (expect earth reaction from February 25th onward)

July 15th...continuous impacts from this point through 2013.

Britain battered by 70mph winds, snow in the North, roads closed, up to 3 inches of rain across the South - 8 Nov 10 -

- Gale-force winds and snow battered Britain today disrupting road, train and ferry services - but the worst of the wintry blast is yet to come.

Snow fell across high ground from the north Midlands towards Scotland, with the Highlands particularly affected.

The Environment Agency has issued six flood warnings ... 37 other flood 'watches' are also in place.

Warnings of gale force winds and heavy rain were also given in Wales, along with heavy rain and heavy snow in parts of the north west of England.

It comes after the country enjoyed one of the mildest November weeks on record.

Byron Chalcraft, forecaster at the Met Office, said: 'This, I'm afraid, is a sign of things to come. It's going to be thoroughly miserable.

The Food Crisis of 2011


Fact is, the food crisis of 2008 never really went away.

True, food riots didn’t break out in poor countries during 2009 and warehouse stores like Costco didn’t ration 20-pound bags of rice…but supply remained tight.

Prices for basic foodstuffs like corn and wheat remain below their 2008 highs. But they’re a lot higher than they were before “the food crisis of 2008” took hold. Here’s what’s happened to some key farm commodities so far in 2010…


Corn: Up 63%

Wheat: Up 84%

Soybeans: Up 24%

Sugar: Up 55%

What was a slow and steady increase much of the year has gone into overdrive since late summer. Blame it on two factors…

Aug. 5: A failed wheat harvest prompted Russia to ban grain exports through the end of the year. Later in August, the ban was extended through the end of 2011. Drought has wrecked the harvest in Russia, Ukraine and Kazakhstan – home to a quarter of world production

Oct. 8: For a second month running, the Agriculture Department cut its forecast for US corn production. The USDA predicts a 3.4% decline from last year. Damage done by Midwestern floods in June was made worse by hot, dry weather in August.

America’s been blessed with year after year of “record harvests,” depending on how you measure it. So when crisis hits elsewhere in the world, the burden of keeping the world fed falls on America’s shoulders.

So what happens when those “record harvests” no longer materialize?

In September, the US Department of Agriculture estimated that global grain “carryover stocks” – the amount in the world’s silos and stockpiles when the next harvest begins – totaled 432 million tons.

That translates to 70 days of consumption. A month earlier, it was 71 days. The month before that, 72. At this rate, come next spring, we’ll be down to just 64 days – the figure reached in 2007 that touched off the food crisis of 2008.

But what happens if the U.S. scenario is worse than a “nonrecord” harvest? What if there’s a Russia-scale crop failure here at home?

“When we have the first serious crop failure, which will happen,” says farm commodity expert Don Coxe, “we will then have a full-blown food crisis” – one far worse than 2008.

Coxe has studied the sector for more than 35 years as a strategist for BMO Financial Group. He says it didn’t have to come to this. “We’ve got a situation where there has been no incentive to allocate significant new capital to agriculture or to develop new technologies to dramatically expand crop output.”

“We’ve got complacency,” he sums up. “So for those reasons, I believe the next food crisis – when it comes – will be a bigger shock than $150 oil.”

A recent report from HSBC isn’t quite so alarming…unless you read between the lines. “World agricultural markets,” it says, “have become so finely balanced between supply and demand that local disruptions can have a major impact on the global prices of the affected commodities and then reverberate throughout the entire food chain.”

That was the story in 2008. It’s becoming the story again now. It may go away in a few weeks or a few months. But it won’t go away for good. It’ll keep coming back…for decades.

When we depend on these huge agribusiness conglomerates, with their charts and their stock commodities, we will be subject to any crop failures, as a global group. Of course, the answer is to go back to local food growing, local cooperatives, and leave the agribusiness monsters to their withered stock reports. We can feed everybody if it's not a for-profit corporate megabusiness. The ownership of the farm land is the crux. Allowing these huge corporate farms to take the farm land was a mistake. It can be corrected, but how can this be done in a good, kind, and gentle way. Wheat grows in the sun. Doesn't matter who "owns" the dirt. What matters is if the weather is stabilized, and the rains beneficial and timely. Getting the earth back in balance is way more important than the "balance sheets." Getting control of the fields is the key and it will happen because the corporations don't have enough enforcers. If people go ahead plant seeds, the food will grow. It's time for that. The harvest is ours, not theirs.
