Good chance of Grímsfjall eruption following the glacier flood
Posted on October 31, 2010 by Jón Frímann

According to Icelandic news there is a good chance of a eruption in Grímsfjall. Following the glacier flood from Grímsvötn glacier lake. That is at least the opinion of Páll Einarsson, a geologist at University of Iceland. This is not going to be a big eruption in Grímsfjall in Páll opinion. But it is most likely going to be similar in size to the eruption in Grímsfjall in the year 2004. But no damage did happen from that eruption and it did not erupt international flight paths (just domestic ones). In the news Páll also says that the pressure inside Grímsfjall magma chamber appears to be slightly higher then in the year 2004. But otherwise the situation in Grímsfjall is almost identical to the one in the year 2004.

Glacier flood has started from Gímsvötnum
Posted on October 31, 2010 by Jón Frímann
Few hours ago a glacier flood started from Grímsvötnum. But it was only confirmed few moments ago. The flood noise can be seen on following SIL stations around Vatnajökull.

This glacier flood is expected to reach it’s peak in about 4 to 5 days. If this is a repeat of the year 2004 events a eruption should start in Grímsfjalli in about 1 to 4 days from now. But if that plays out exacly like the year 2004 eruption remains to be seen. GVP has the eruption history of Grímsfjall here.

This glacier flood starts on the exact day as it did in the year 2004.

    EARTH CHANGES 2011 DAILY UPDATES - Page 18 Sauli-Koski1

AMAZING HALOES: Yesterday in Kittilä, Finland, photographer Sauli Koski witnessed a brief but unforgettable display when the rising sun shone through a morning cloud of wintery ice crystals. "These were the best ice haloes I have ever seen," says Koski. "They were there for only about 10 minutes and then gone. What a delight!"

A QUIET NIGHT IN NORWAY: Friday night's forecast called for little geomagnetic activity, but in northern Norway it only takes a little to produce a beautiful display. Helge Mortensen sends this Oct. 29th snapshot from the outskirts of Tromsø: 15 second exposure with Canon EOS 5D Mark II revealed the Northern Lights."

A more vivid display could appear on Nov. 1st when a solar wind stream is expected to brush past Earth's magnetic field. NOAA forecasters estimate a 30% chance of geomagnetic activity. High latitude sky watchers should remain alert for auroras.

    Near Earth Asteroids

Potentially Hazardous Asteroids (PHAs) are space rocks larger than approximately 100m that can come closer to Earth than 0.05 AU. None of the known PHAs is on a collision course with our planet, although astronomers are finding new ones all the time.

On October 31, 2010 there were 1157 potentially hazardous asteroids.

Flooding from Grímsvötn Volcano in Vatnajökull Glacier

More seismic activity has been registered in the last few days with several earthquakes between 3 and 4 Richter scale. Most of them have been around Blönduvirkjun north of Langjökull and Hofsjökull (on Kjölur highland road). There was one earthquake registered 3.0 on Richter in Grimsvötn in Vatnajökull Glacier today suggesting that some flooding might be expected, and it just started few minutes ago.

Burgundia, I just edited an unpublished interview of Carol Rosin. I believe this clip is from 2004. It's clear that our real threats are global earth changes and all the other tends to fade into the background as we watch what is going on all around us.

This is from the Disclosure Project conference which took place in 2001, so 9 years ago. But it is hard not to notice that everything has been happening according to her "prediction" or rather von Braun's "prediction". We have arrived at the moment where we are faced with the "asteroid threat". All previous scenarios have come true already: communist threat, terrorism, rogue 3rd world countries, etc. So what is left? Fake alien invasion.

Post  burgundia Mon Nov 01, 2010 11:17 am

    http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/39950513/ns/world_news-europe/
ROME — News reports say mudslides spawned by heavy rains in Tuscany and elsewhere in northern Italy have killed three people. Several others were injured after their train derailed from mud-flooded tracks.

Civil protection crews issued alerts Monday for several northern rivers that they may breach if the rains continue and officials urged people to refrain from driving for fear of getting trapped in flooded underpasses.

The ANSA news agency says schools were canceled for Tuesday in Vincenza, one of the hardest hit areas. Ferry service was canceled to many of Italy's outlying islands off Naples and Sicily because of high winds.

RAI state radio said a mother and son were pulled from their mudslide-ravaged home early Monday; another man was found later.

Indonesia volcano shoots new blast; 21 more rumble

MOUNT MERAPI, Indonesia – Deafening explosions of hot gas rattled evacuees miles (kilometers) from an Indonesian volcano Monday, the latest eruption in a deadly week. The country reported increased rumblings at 21 other active volcanoes, raising questions about what's causing the uptick along some of the world's most volatile fault lines.
No casualties were reported in Mount Merapi's new blast, which came as Indonesia struggles to respond to an earthquake-generated tsunami that devastated a remote chain of islands. The two disasters unfolding on opposite ends of the country have killed nearly 500 people and strained the government's emergency response network. In both events, the military has been called in to help.

Merapi has killed 38 people since it started erupting a week ago. Monitoring officials have also raised alert levels at some of the 129 active volcanoes in Indonesia, with two under watch for possible eruption within two weeks and 19 showing increased activity — more than double the usual number on the watch list, an official said.
Indonesia, a vast archipelago of 235 million people, is prone to earthquakes and volcanos because it sits along the Pacific "Ring of Fire," a horseshoe-shaped string of faults that lines the western and eastern Pacific. Scientists could not say for certain what was causing the increased volcanic activity, though two theorized the earth's tectonic plates could be realigning and one noted growing evidence that volcanos can affect one other.

New eruption could be looming in Iceland, experts warn
    Monday, November 1 06:1

An Icelandic volcano has shown signs it could be about to burst into life, just months after an eruption from another volcano caused Europe's biggest air shutdown since World War II, experts said Monday. Skip related content

The sun sets in a sky dusted with ash from Iceland's Eyjafjoell volcano, in May

"The water levels have tripled in (the river) Gigja since last night," water measurement specialist Gunnar Sigurdsson of the Icelandic Meteorological Institute told AFP.

The water flooding into the Gigja, on the Vatnajoekull glacier in eastern Iceland, comes from an icy lake in the crater of the Grimsvoetn volcano.

Due to increased thermal temperatures, the lake and surrounding glacier area has melted, filling the crater to a point where it has spilled over and caused a so-called river-run, which in turn could easily set off an eruption.

"When a river-run occurs, the pressure, in this case, in Grimsvotn, decreases, and with less pressure, there is a chance of an eruption from the volcano," Thorunn Skaftadottir, a geophysicist also with the Icelandic Meteorological Institute told AFP.

"This is not guaranteed," she pointed out, since an eruption "can only happen if the volcano has collected enough magma."

In 2004, a similar flood from the Grimsvoetn lake was closely followed by an eruption from what is considered Iceland's most active volcano.

Sigurdsson said an eruption was unlikely to occur "until the water levels in Gigja have reached a maximum.

"I don't know when we can expect the levels to reach their highest point, but I suspect it will be in a few days," he said.

Over the past 48 hours, the Meteorological Institute has also registered strong seismic activity in the area, and three moderate earth quakes ranging from 2.7 to 4.0 on the Richter scale.

Icelandic authorities were however unable Monday to say whether an eruption at Grimsvotn would hit air traffic as hard as in April when the Eyjafjoell volcano erupted, dispersing a massive cloud of ash which affected more than 100,000 flights and eight million passengers.

"It is near impossible to say if Grimsvotn erupts whether it will have an affect on air traffic at all," said Keflavik Airport spokeswoman Hjordis Gudmundsdottir, pointing out it would depend if the volcano spewed lava or ash.

"If it is an ash eruption, then it would affect air traffic, but only if it is a strong eruption with ash clouds reaching significant heights," she said, adding "it will also depend on wind, so at this point it is hard to guess."

Skaftadottir meanwhile said that any eruption from Grimsvotn would be an ash eruption.

"However, the scale of the eruption will be much smaller than the Eyjafjoell eruption and I do not think it would have the same effect on air travel as Eyjafjoell did," she said.

Climate change catastrophe took just months
    Jonathan Leake, Science Editor

    http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/science/earth-environment/article6917215.ece

Six months is all it took to flip Europe’s climate from warm and sunny into the last ice age, researchers have found.

They have discovered that the northern hemisphere was plunged into a big freeze 12,800 years ago by a sudden slowdown of the Gulf Stream that allowed ice to spread hundreds of miles southwards from the Arctic.

Previous research had suggested the change might have taken place over a longer period — perhaps about 10 years.

The new description, reminiscent of the Hollywood blockbuster The Day After Tomorrow, emerged from one of the most painstaking studies of past climate changes yet attempted.

“It would have been very sudden for those alive at the time,” said William Patterson, a geological sciences professor at the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon, Canada, who carried out the research. “It would be the equivalent of taking Britain and moving it to the Arctic over the space of a few months.”

His findings, published at a recent conference, reinforce a series of studies suggesting that the earth’s climate is highly unstable and can flip between warm and cold very rapidly with the right trigger.

Most such research is based on analysing cores drilled from ice or from the sediment found at the bottom of oceans or lakes. In such cores the ice or sediment is found in layers whose composition shows what the climate was like at the time they were laid down.

Ice cores drilled from the Greenland ice cap have already shown that the big freeze of 12,800 years ago — known as the Younger Dryas mini-ice age — happened fast but lacked the detail to pin it down precisely.

Patterson, however, obtained mud deposits from Lough Monreagh, a lake in western Ireland, a region he says has “the best mud in the world in scientific terms”.

Patterson used a precision robotic scalpel to scrape off layers of mud just 0.5mm thick. Each layer represented three months of sediment deposition, so variations between them could be used to measure changes in temperature over very short periods.

Patterson found that temperatures had plummeted, with the lake’s plants and animals rapidly dying over just a few months. The subsequent mini-ice age lasted for 1,300 years.

What caused such a dramatic event? The most likely trigger is the sudden emptying of Lake Agassiz, an inland sea that once covered a swathe of northern Canada.

It is thought to have burst its banks, pouring freezing freshwater into the North Atlantic and Arctic oceans, disrupting the Gulf Stream, whose flows depend on variations in temperature and salinity.

A single year’s disruption in the Gulf Stream could have been enough, said Patterson, to let ice grow far to the south of where it usually formed. Once it had taken over, the Gulf Stream was unable to regain its normal route and the cold took hold for about 1,300 years.

Some scientists have suggested that if the Greenland ice cap melts it could have a similarly dramatic effect by disrupting the world’s ocean currents.

Other research has shown that rapid climate flips are normal. In its 4.5-billion-year history, the earth has experienced at least four main ice ages, of which the last, the Quaternary, is still continuing.

Within each ice age, however, there are periods when ice advances or retreats, and in the past 60,000 years alone the earth is thought to have warmed or cooled by up to 7C at least 20 times. The current interglacial period has lasted about 10,000 years.

“Human civilisation has grown up in a period of remarkable climatic stability,” said Tim Lenton, professor of earth system sciences at the University of East Anglia.

“In the period from 65,000 to 10,000 years ago there were periods of abrupt warming and cooling roughly every 1,500 years, when the temperature in Greenland might fall or rise by 10C in a decade.”

Patterson’s findings are supported by the research of Chris Stringer, professor of human origins at the Natural History Museum in London.

He believes the extinction of Neanderthals roughly 30,000 years ago was linked to a series of rapid climate fluctuations that began more than 40,000 years ago. He said: “Climate is basically unstable, so one of the mysteries is why it has stayed warm for the last 10,000 years.

“Some researchers have suggested this may be linked to the activities of early humans, who started growing crops and clearing forests 8,000 years ago.

“That may have put enough greenhouse gases into the air to stave off another ice age, but the problem now is that we have gone too far the other way.

“The amount of greenhouse gases in the air is greater than at any time in the last million years, so ironically, the threat now is from global warming.”

Patterson is still focusing his efforts on the past. He has built a new robot capable of shaving tiny slivers from the shells of fossilised clams, showing temperature almost day by day from millions of years ago.

    EMI Storms, Definition

Electro-Magnetic Induced Storms are different types of weather-related storms (Rainstorm, Snowstorm, Windstorm, Thunderstorm, Hailstorm, Dust storm & Tornado) which forms as a result of an electro-magnetic or plasma discharge into the atmosphere.

The main difference between typical storms and EMI Storms are:

    • QUANTITY/AMOUNT: More quantity of snow, inches of rain, hail size or winds force in a very short time, probably setting a new historic record. Readings may reach above the default or maximum ever registered.

    • FORCE/POWER: More powerful and destructive than typical storms. High intensity.

    • SPEED/TIMING: More suddenly and without warnings, quickly, and fast moving.

    • COLOR: Lightly or bright Green, Orange or Violet clouds with similar colored lightnings

Plasma ejections or injections may indicate partially open fissures on the ionosphere where this discharges enter and form a storm-like event. These kinds of storms are highly unpredictable differing from the typical storms that can be predicted at least 15 minutes before, like tornadoes.

EMI Storms may behave as fire storms but inversely: a source of electro-magnetic heat is injected by natural or artificial forces provoking the formation of a storm that later affect the ground.

EMI Storms is just a theory that needs more research and reinforced facts. Not conclusive, open to feedback from experienced experts. Please be free to post your opinion, links, videos or thinking to expand our knowledge on this research.

Great balls of fire over Canada: NASA investigates
    http://www.ctv.ca/CTVNews/Canada/20101104/comet-nasa-canada-101104/

MONTREAL — Great balls of fire have been reported swooping over Eastern Canada and several U.S. states.

    Even NASA's on the case.

There are different theories about what was behind the sighting of those fireballs. A NASA spacecraft got a closer look at one of the possible sources today.

The spacecraft flew past Hartley 2 -- taking closeup pictures after the comet made one of its closest passes by Earth this week.

But one expert is skeptical of reports that any fireballs came from Hartley -- which is roughly 1.2 kilometres wide and spews deadly cyanide gas.

Scientist Peter Brown says his meteor group at the University of Western Ontario tracked one of two fireballs while the other was tracked by NASA's Meteoroid Environment Office.
