Do Vedic rites impact environment? Scientists head for Kerala village
    13 January 2011

    By Madhusree Chatterjee, IANS,

New Delhi : Can ancient mantras induce rains? Do Vedic chants impact the surrounding environment? A team of scientists will attempt to find out the answers when they descend on the ancient village of Panjal in Kerala to study the 3,100-year-old Vedic ritual called Athirathram in April.

A team of Vedic scholars from Panjal village, home to the Namboothiri Brahmins, say "vedic rites are known to impact environment and human beings positively".

Panjal is located in Thrissur bordering Palakkad district of Kerala close to the Nila river. The ritual to invoke the god of fire, to be held from April 4 to 14, will be conducted by 18 priests led by the head priest called 'yajaman' and his wife in the precincts of a Lakshmi Narayana shrine.

The village had played host to Athirathram 35 years ago and it was supported by the Helsinki, Harvard and Berkeley universities. But this is the first time the ritual will be held with people's support to promote world peace by the Varthathe Trust, a religious forum that promotes Vedic knowledge and spiritual systems.

A team of scientists led by V.P.M. Nampoori, former director of the International School of Photonics, Cochin University (CUSAT), will conduct research into the impact of Vedic chants and the fire ritual on the atmosphere.

The 12-day ritual will present the opportunity to explore the "scientific implications on nature, mankind and all other living creatures", the scientist said in a statement.

Nampoori said the "chanting of mantras and the worshipping of Agni with medicinal herbs energise and protect the environment".

"The application of mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology and astronomy is evident in every aspect of this performance."

The scientist said he would conduct "elaborate experiments in the areas of atmospheric changes in temperature, humidity and pressure level during the ritual".

"Studies will be conducted on the implications on micro-organisms in the soil and variation in the yield from plants and animals," he said.

The research will also include the "physiological and psychological effects on human beings, especially on those who meditate or are under medication ..."

Sivakaran Namboodiri, a trustee of the Varthathe Trust and a Vedic scholar and healer, said: "The three previous editions of Athirathram had brought rain - to Panjal 35 years ago, to Kundoor where it was held in 1990 and to Kizhakkencherry in 2006".

"We want to find out whether it brings rain and increases the yield of the soil and milch cattle, which will be exposed to chanting," Sivakaran said.

The 2006 ritual was supported by the Smithsonian School and the Rock Foundation, the School of Oriental and African Studies in London and several scholars from Japan and Europe.

Sivakaran said the "yajaman Ramanujan Somayaji of the Athirathram 2011 is training a team of young Vedic priests to chant the mantras in the right pitch for the maximum positive impact on those present at the ritual and on the environment".

The ritual of Athirathram was first recorded in the 10th century BC. It survives in a few Brahmin and spiritual pockets.

Indologist Frits Staal from US, who authored a book, "Agni", in two volumes after the first ritual in April 1975, said the "ritual was a triumph of the human spirit over the limitations of matter and the physical body."

The ritual, which revolves around a sacrificial fire, offering of medicinal herbs and constant chanting, involves practitioners and scholars of Rig Veda, Sama Veda and Yajur Veda.

The healing power of the Vedic chant is said to lie in its positive vibrations.

Scholars of the Divya Jyoti Ved Mandir, a wing of the capital-based Divya Jyoti Jagriti Sansthan which promotes Vedic knowledge, say chanting in the right tone can produce sound waves and sonic vibrations of high potential that charge the atmosphere with positive energy.

"Also, the sound waves, by enveloping the atmosphere, impact the surroundings positively. Hence, this is an effective tool for preservation of environment," a Vedic scholar associated with the Divya Jyoti Ved Mandir told IANS.

Vedic chants are also said to impact expecting mothers positively.

According to scholar Tatwamasi Dixit: "Listening to Vedic mantras has a profound impact on the expecting mother's emotions.... It helps a mother establish communication between the mother and the child."

    Athiratram news updated

    Here:

    Panjal (Kerala), April 15

    http://www.prokerala.com/news/articles/a215454.html

About 200,000 people watched in utter astonishment as the starry night suddenly turned cloudy and a heavy downpour, accompanied by strong winds, drenched the "yagasala" altar in this Kerala village before and after it was set afire Friday to mark the ceremonial end of Athirathram, the ancient Vedic fire ritual.
Rain appeared miraculously because the weather throughout the day was blistering hot and dry and the sky remained starry and clear in the evening.
It changed in five minutes as the sky turned dark and a strong wind built up at around 9.30 p.m.
All areas in the village of Panjal in Thrissur and also in Kochi, the port city, received the rain in a repeat to the 1975 Athirathram, said the organisers.
"The rain was caused by the strong convection current generated by the smoke rising from the altar and the continuous chanting of the mantras," V.P.N. Namboodiri, head of the research team of the Panjal Athirathram, told IANS as people milled around the venue enjoying the cool rain.
Namboodiri is a former director of the International School of Photonics at Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT) and emeritus scientist at the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR).
The altar was set on fire at 10 p.m. followed by a fresh wave of rain.
Nearly 200,000 people had gathered on the concluding evening of the 4000-year-old fire ritual. They erupted into thunderous applause as the first drops of the rain fell.
While the priests claimed it a "miracle", scientists said the Vedas were far ahead of its time in generating local rainfall, a practice that has gained ground of late with chemical nucleation in many parts of India's drought ravaged areas.
The 12-day fire ritual for peace, purification, fertility, health and rain began April 4.
It was organised by a local non-profit group Varthathe Trust to revive dying Vedic traditions in the country.
Panjal is one of the key bastions of the "Samavedis" and "Rigvedis" - practitioners of the ancient Hindu scriptures Sama Veda and the Rig Veda - who have kept the two living traditions of Vedic chants and 'yagnya' (worship of elements) alive for nearly 4,000 years.
The village was host to four major Athirathrams in 1901, 1918, 1956 and 1975.

    And Here :

When Lord Indra answered the call of Vedas (With Images)

    15 avril 2011 07:20:47 HAEC by IANS ( Leave a comment )
Panjal (Kerala), April 15 (IANS) The primal Vedic chants that ring across the rolling greens of this village in Thrissur district are a ceremonial invitation to Lord Indra, the god of rain, to join the ancient fire ritual of Athirathram.

Towards the evening, thunder rumbles in the distance, almost as if Lord Indra is responding to the call of the 18 Vedic priests. And it rains. The priests have been chanting round-the-clock for the last three days to build up the energy level.

Panjal, 30 km from Thrissur town, was teeming with humanity on the 11th day of the ritual Thursday evening. For most tourists, it was a cultural and spiritual pilgrimage covering the Kerala Kala Mandalam, near the venue of the ritual, and the Guruvayoor temple in Thrissur district.

The village of 32,000 people has drawn nearly 300,000 visitors in the last 10 days. The footfall is likely to touch 500,000 Friday when the sprawling 380-square metre venue is set afire to mark the end of the 12-day fire ritual for peace, purification, fertility, health and rain.

It has been organised by a local non-profit group Varthathe Trust to revive dying Vedic traditions in the country.

Panjal is one of the key bastions of the ‘Samavedis’ and ‘Rigvedis’ - practitioners of the ancient Hindu scriptures Sama Veda and the Rig Veda - who have kept the two living traditions of Vedic chants and ‘yagnya’ (worship of elements) alive for nearly 4,000 years.

Five families each of Rig Veda practitioners and Sama Veda practitioners preserve the tradition.

The village has played host to four major Athirathrams in 1901, 1918, 1956 and 1975.

In 1975, noted Dutch Indologist Frits Staal documented the ritual in a two-volume Vedic treatise — “Agni: The Vedic Ritual of the Fire Altar”.

Staal, 81, who has returned this time, watched the proceedings from behind a barricaded enclosure. “Not much has changed. The ritual is alive and well. But it is a real pleasure to be back to Thrissur,” he said.

A team from Harvard University led by professor Micheal Witzel is also studying the Sama Vedic chants. “It is one of the oldest living Vedic traditions and has not changed much,” Witzel told IANS.

The ancient fire rite is an elaborate avatar of ‘agnihotram’ and ’somayaga’ - fire worship and offering of the ’soma’ rasa to the ritual fire - prescribed in the Vedas.

It’s said to symbolise the creation of the world with a ball of fire from the big bang, scientists studying the phenomenon say.

Athirathram is the most complex of the Vedic fire ‘yagnas’, first documented in 1100 BC and continued till 600 BC across the northern Indian river plains after which it disappeared from the northern part of the country.

A Vedic community of Namboodiris Brahmins in south India, however, clung to it.

“It combines chants and rites from the Rig Veda, Sama Veda and Yajur Veda,” said Nellikaatilmamanul Vasudevan Namboodiri, one of the oldest Sama Veda practitioners of Panjal.

Yajamana Ramanujan Akkhithiripad, a priest from Chembra in Mallapuram district, presided over the rituals assisted by a team of 17 Vedic priests. Ramanujan’s wife - known as the ‘yajman pathni’, has been camping at the ‘yagshala’ - the venue of the rite - for the 12 days with her husband as part of the rituals.

The yajamana (presiding priest) and his wife carry the scared fire home in pots and keep it burning for the rest of their lives, Vasudevan Namboodiri said.

At the heart of the ritual is the sacrificial fire that burns in a blaze of fragrant wood and herbal smoke. The ritual hearth resembles the white-crested red eagle found in the area.

“Sighting an eagle is a good omen,” says priest Sivakaran Namboodiri.

However, the ritual that generated maximum curiosity was the pressing of Soma stalks or ’somaabhishavam’ on the 10th day to be offered as oblation to the fire god Agni.

The ’soma’ - an intoxicating creeper that grows in the Western Ghats - is ferried to the venue in special donkey-drawn ’soma’ carts in a recreation of the Vedic era.

Over 300 women, decked as brides, partook of the special offering, ’soumyam, (prasadam)’, a dish of clarified butter and rice — for healthy childbirth and conjugal happiness. And an ‘annaydanam (food offering)’ kitchen fed 40,000 people everyday with traditional Kerala platters of ponni rice, poreal, avial, sambhar, pickles and payasam.

Great, this makes sense, but this is only one of the properties of the water. There are experiments done with water that do not explain all properties of water. There are scientists who say 'we do not know what water is'. Some say water has 'memory'. Masaru Emoto experiments are not explained and even more giving headache to scientists. Also there was no metal used. The question is how to create the change in atmosphere to attract
the humidity to create the opposing zone? By mantra, by cosmic codes in the arrangments, precision, measurements? by will of pure consciousness of priests? Wink or truly all together and only the way they did it. What I mean by the way they did it that it is only the true way, not harming environment by using science shortcuts as today haarp. Butterfly effect, Kepler problem for relativity and other teories are not helping much.
All intellectual explanation not backed by direct experience would only misguide this experiment in my opinion.
Scientists concluded the ritual has positive impact on environment. However they remain incapable to completely comprehend the intricacy of the mantras, precision of the described in scripts details of every stone, wood, pot, herbs, shapes, measurements and sequence in ritual scripts.

The essense of 'Agni' ritual is effective complete selflessness surrender to bring peace, harmony to the world, harmony and purity to the environment, to access the Divine, to purify consiousness of living force, to lead to spiritual attainment. And all is written down in details.

The flying eagle above in a sky and the rain at the finalle was more just for public, but it was shown that the ritual has been conducted precisely in accordance with the Vedas. The same happened in 1975.
Notice when the public burst in joy, the priests (knowers of the Vedic science and deeper truths of the ritual)
    remain calm.

    Scientists concluded after ritual:

Scientists - Ancient fire ritual has positive impact on environment

Can ancient mantras induce rains? Do Vedic chants impact the surrounding environment?

A team of scientists led by VPM Nampoori, former director of the International School of Photonics,
Cochin University (CUSAT), will conduct research into the impact of Vedic chants and the fire ritual on the atmosphere.

The 12-day ritual will present the opportunity to explore the "scientific implications on nature,
mankind and all other living creatures", the scientist said in a statement.

Nampoori said the "chanting of mantras and the worshipping of Agni with medicinal herbs energise
    and protect the environment".

"The application of mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology and astronomy is evident in every

    aspect of this performance."

The scientist said he would conduct "elaborate experiments in the areas of atmospheric changes in temperature, humidity and pressure level during the ritual".

"Studies will be conducted on the implications on micro-organisms in the soil and variation in
the yield from plants and animals," he said.

The research will also include the "physiological and psychological effects on human beings,
especially on those who meditate or are under medication ..."

Indologist Frits Staal from US, who authored a book, "Agni", in two volumes after the first
ritual in April 1975, said the "ritual was a triumph of the human spirit over the limitations
of matter and the physical body."

The ritual, which revolves around a sacrificial fire, offering of medicinal herbs and
constant chanting, involves practitioners and scholars of Rig Veda, Sama Veda and Yajur Veda.

Athirathram 2011: The goal of all Yaagams is the prosperity of the people at large by energizing
and protecting the environment. The Sun is considered as the main source of energy supply,
and fire is considered as a representation of the Sun's energy. According to the ancient
texts on Yaagam, any offer to Fire as a god, is actually an offer to Sun.
Any such offer is either to enrich energy in the environment or to destroy the
undesirable elements in the environment, and thus, in both ways, environment is protected.
Attaching divine nature to such rituals (like Yaagam) induced people to practice them.
Thus, the ancient texts proclaim that "Such Vaidika Karmams are result-oriented,
and meant to lead to Sreyass or spiritual attainments". The technical procedures
for such Karmams (rituals) are detailed in ancient texts like the Braahmanams and Sroutha Soothrams.
More important than the learning and understanding of the concepts, is the actual performance
of such Karmams. In other words, the "performer" spreads more Sreyass to the world
than the texts (Granthhams) themselves. the last three days of the rituals will go on non-stop for 72-hours,
with each priest getting a break of barely 30 minutes.

The results glorifies the Vedic validity and truth. It is wonderful gift to mankind.

The world could definitely use more of these rituals Exclamation

A 4,000 year old fire ritual conducted in the remote village in Kerala in April this year

The scientists had focused on the fire ritual’s scientific dimensions and impact on the atmosphere, soil and its micro—organisms and other potential environmental effects.

The team had planted three types of seeds — cowpea, green gram and Bengal gram — on all four sides of the ritual venue at varying distances. They found that the growth was better in case of pots kept closer to the fire altar.

This effect, the study says, was more pronounced in the case of Bengal gram with growth about 2,000 times faster than in other places.

According to Nampoori, sound is a vibration and continuous positive vibrations through chanting, accelerates the process of germination.

He added that further research on the phenomenon were on which could prove that some bio—amplifier generated in the atmosphere because of the ritual, had a selective effect on Bengal gram.

The study focused on counting bacterial colonies at three locations — within the yagnashala, 500 metres and 1.5 kilometres from the yagnasala. Microbial analysis made before, during and four days after the yagna revealed that the air in the vicinity of the yagnashala was pure and had very low count of microbe colonies.

The research team also found that microbial activities in the soil and water around the yagnashala were remarkably less compared to normal ground.

The “Athirathram” ritual which literally means “building up of the fireplace and performed overnight” and usually held to propagate universal peace and harmony, was first documented 35 years ago by US—based Indologist Frits Staal.

Staal, currently Emeritus Professor of Philosophy and South and Southeast Asian Studies at the University of California, Berkeley had in 1975 organised and recorded the ritual in detail with the help of grants and donations from the Universities of Havard, Berkely and Finland”s Helsinki University.

The research team conducted tests near the fire altars of the 1918 and 1956 Athirathram, still preserved in the backyards of Namboothiri homes, reveal that the bricks continue to be free of microbial presence.

“It’s an indication that the effect of the ritual is long—lasting. Studies are on to find out if other positive changes on the atmosphere are transitional or permanent,” say researchers.

An analysis conducted on the dimensions of temperature from the flames of the pravargya by Prof A K Saxena, head of photonics division, Indian Institute of Astrophysics, Bangalore, found that the fire ball that formed during the ritual had a particular wavelength with an unusually high intensity similar to what is observed in typical laser beams at about 3,870 degree centigrade.

It may be possible to have stimulated emission at this wavelength (700 nm) and gain from plasma recombination. It needs to be studied further, he says.

    ayurveda stuff

The unending variety of edible things that nature has bestowed is truly amazing. Each having its own specific properties and each producing its own effect on the human body. The ancient sages and seers had done deep research on this subject and had laid down certain rules for what constituted full and complete nutrition. They had even laid down what changes were necessary to the routine if the body started malfunctioning. Various herbs, condiments, vegetables, nuts, fruits etc. had been specified. If only, our taste buds had not led us astray, if only our interests and habits had not made us disregard the timings of food intake, if only we observed the rules of nature, we would not be in such a sorry state of health today.

It is interesting to note that nature has balanced everything. The fruit of the Guava is not good for cough but the leaves when boiled in water and taken as tea cure coughs. The Bichhubooti (scorpion grass) in the Himalayas, if touched gives scorpion bite like pains, but the grass growing just below the plant is an antedote for it. It is only when man starts extracting specifics from the nature's booty, leaving the compensating factors behind, that, troubles start.

Different food items, herbs and condiments, when taken in a specified manner and in specified quantities can produce miraculous curative effects.

    A few examples:

    - Hot water gargles done in tandem with Rock salt, Bay leaf and Cinnamon, can cover almost the entire broad spectrum range of antibiotics and help heal a sore throat fast.
    - A cup of milk in which a teaspoonful of Turmeric powder has been boiled, taken before bedtime, can relieve 'Flu' fever and body aches overnight.
-Milk and lemon juice can stop the worst case of watery loose motions in minutes. There are innumerable such miraculously effective and totally harmless cures.

so it is above our senses :)

NO, only Your dominant senses that have overridden Your most basic sense....that is how to connect to the universal matrix and how to interact with it to create whatever We so desire.
It's all via the palms of your hands and soles of Your feet.
This will seem like a very odd link, but pay close attention around five minutes, thiis man....sergy grebennikov was a dowser, and He knew about TIME, and how nature operates, especially how beetles utilise resonant cavities to locally operate in TIME.

Coccoliths know this also, as do tree's, by altering the resonant field You can alter the consequences locally.
Nothing is beyond us is We remember this, time and gravity do not exist as such.
The fire altars teach this , but We have forgotten, the geometry is at the root of ALL creation, in ONE substance, alter the local geometries , and You alter the outcomes, as the bee's do to make queens, they rotate and alter the pods, the geometric pods.

I never heard about Prof. Grebennikov research before. All he learned from world of insects. The levitating, canceling gravity bio machine he did has no metal. It would be interesting to read about his research.

There is a post on this thread about flying vimanas, mirrors or monitors including gravity monitors made with mixtures of biological parts . wow, something resonates. Thanks, very interesting. Did you see this?

    Speaker:

Positive (constructive) interferences add to and multiply while Negative (destructive) interferences subtract from and divide frequencies. This means that we have a spectrum of creation generated from the divisions of the Aether which can be shown by the following :

    - Aether slowed down and extended yields
-- Magnetism slowed down and extended yields
--- Electricity slowed down and extended yields
---- Light slowed down and extended yields
----- Heat slowed down and extended yields
------ Sound slowed down and extended yields
------- Physical Vibration slowed down and extended yields
    -------- Matter

Grebennikov was a dowser, it takes one to know one.
How does a sea shell MOVE??
    How does a coccolith move?
    Ever dowsed a feather?
Ever wondered about the arrangement of shells in megalithic burials?
    I do.

    ALL is ONE,
One substance that all is created within, in memory.
The substance is super dense, it has pathways at all scale and in all directions that allow infinite creation, the MEMORY moves....if it has the required duality of spin available.
Balance, as the Egyptians knew, from the HEART.
Revelations.....the man that see's the house of god.....clear as glass....he will have a rod that he can measure it with.

    :)

    now this from earlier post

    Baghavad Gita
    ......

The Supreme Personality of Godhead said: It is lust only, Arjuna, which is born of contact
with the material mode of passion and later transformed into wrath,
and which is the all- devouring sinful enemy of this world.

Purport: When a living entity comes in contact with the material creation,
his eternal love for Krisna is transformed into lust, in association with the mode of passion.
Or, in other words, the sense of love of God becomes transformed into lust, as milk in contact
    with sour is transformed into yogurt. Then again, when lust is unsatisfied, it turns into wrath;
wrath is transformed into illusion, and illusion continues the material existence.

Therefore, lust is the greatest enemy of the living entity, and it is lust only which induces the
    pure living to remain entangled in the material world. Wrath is the manifestation of the mode of ignorance;
these modes exhibit themselves as wrath and other corollaries. If, therefore, the mode of passion,
instead of being degraded into the mode of ignorance, is elevated to the mode of goodness
by the prescribed method of living and acting, then one can be saved from the degradation of wrath
    by spiritual attachment.

    ......
