Milk substitute:
use Pure Vanilla flavour of PURE TRIM - no whey, no soy, no dairy, and, most importantly NO GMOS
Mix one pack with 12-16oz of fresh water
- AND, substitute an equal measure of pure trim instead of milk in almost all recipes

Old Fashioned
4 cups flour
2 tbsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
1/2 cup shortening
1 cup warm water
Mix flour, baking powder and salt. Gradually add in the shortening and water. Add only enough water to make dough stick together. Knead dough until smooth, make into fist-sized balls. Cover them with a towel for 10 minutes then pat them out into circles about the size of a pancake. Fry in hot cooking oil in cast iron skillet until brown on both sides. Drain on paper towels, serve with jam.
Traditional
1 pkg. dry yeast
3 cups warm water
1 tbsp. salt
1 tbsp. sugar
6 cups flour
2 tbsp. oil
1/2 cup cornmeal
Dissolve yeast in warm water then add salt and sugar. Let stand for 5 minutes covered with a towel. Add flour and oil to liquid mixture. Mix and put on floured bread board and knead until mixture is smooth. Put dough in a greased bowl, cover with towel and let it rise for 1 1/2 hours. Remove from bowl and put on bread board, knead in the 1/2 cornmeal. Make dough into 2 balls rolling each into 12 inch circles 1/2 inch thick. Cut into 2 inch squares and drop into hot cooking oil. (Works best with cast iron skillet.) Fry 5 to 6 pieces at a time for only a few moments. Drain on paper towel and sprinkle with white powdered sugar.

Pumpkin Fry Bread
Add the following to the ingredients shown above to make Pumpkin Fry Bread
2 cups fresh pumpkin or 1-16oz. can pumpkin
1 tbsp. milk or water
3/4 cups brown sugar
1/4 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
1/4 tsp. vanilla
Drop into hot cooking oil and brown on both sides. Serve hot with butter or powdered sugar.

Navajo #1
1 C flour
1 t baking powder
1/4 C powdered milk
1/4 t salt
warm water
Combine the ingredients and slowly add enough warm water to form dough. On a lightly floured surface, knead dough until it is smooth soft and not sticky. Cover and let rest 1 hour. Shape into small balls and pat into flat circles about 1/4-1/2 inch thick. Set aside.
In skillet, heat 1/2 inch vegetable oil. Brown dough circles on each side and drain on paper towels.
Serve with chile beans and your favorite taco toppings for "Navajo Tacos."
Navajo #2
3 cups unbleached flour, sifted
1/2 cup dry powdered milk
1 Tbs. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 cup warm water or milk
2 quarts oil for deep frying
Combine the first 5 ingredients in a large mixing bowl and knead until smooth and soft, but not sticky. Depending on the altitude and humidity, you may need to adjust the liquid or the flour, so go slowly and balance accordingly. Be careful not to overwork the dough, or it will become tough and chewy. Brush a tablespoon of oil over the finished dough and allow it to rest 20 minutes to 2 hours in a bowl covered with a damp cloth. After the dough has rested, heat the oil in a broad, deep frying pan or kettle until it reaches a low boil (375º). Pull off egg-sized balls of dough and quickly roll, pull, and path them out into large, plate-sized rounds. They should be thin in the middle and about 1/4 inch thick at the edges. Carefully ease each piece of flattened dough into the hot, boiling oil, one at a time. Using a long-handled cooking fork or tongs, turn the dough one time. Allow about 2 minutes cooking time per side. When golden brown, lift from oil, shake gently to remove bulk of oil, and place on layered brown paper or paper towels to finish draining.
Serve hot with honey, jelly, fine powdered sugar, wojape, or various meat toppings.
Hint:
The magic is in frying the bread quickly! The hotter the oil, the less time it takes to cook. The less time it takes to cook, the lighter the texture and lower the fat content.

Garlic Soup Made With 52 Cloves of Garlic
Can Defeat Colds, Flu and Even Norovirus
IMG_0904
Forget the flu shot. A soup based on more than 50 cloves of garlic, onions, thyme and lemon
will destroy almost any virus that enters its path including colds, flu and even norovirus.
As we sneeze and cough our way through these dark months of contagious nasties,
garlic is being hailed for its powers to halt viruses in their tracks.
It has gained its reputation as a virus buster thanks to one of its chemical constituents, allicin.
A recent and significant finding from Washington State University shows that garlic
is 100 times more effective than two popular antibiotics at fighting disease
causing bacteria commonly responsible for food borne illness.
When the garlic is crushed, alliin becomes allicin.
Research shows that allicin helps lower cholesterol and blood pressure and also helps prevents blood clots.
Garlic can also reduce the risk of developing atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries).
Compounds in this familiar bulb kill many organisms, including bacteria and viruses that cause earaches, flu and colds.
Research indicates that garlic is also effective against digestive ailments and diarrhea.
What's more, further studies suggest that this common and familiar herb may help prevent the onset of cancers.
'This chemical has been known for a long time for its anti-bacterial and anti-fungal powers,' says Helen Bond,
a Derbyshire-based consultant dietitian and spokeswoman for the British Dietetic Association.
'Because of this, people assume it is going to boost their immune systems.
Lots of people are simply mashing up garlic, mixing it with olive oil and spreading it on bread.
'But how or whether it may actually work has still not been proven categorically.'
Indeed, scientists remain divided on garlic's ability to combat colds and flu. Last March,
a major investigation by the respected global research organisation, the Cochrane Database,
found that increasing your garlic intake during winter can cut the duration of cold symptoms
-- from five-and-a-half days to four-and-a-half.
But the report, which amalgamated all previous scientific studies on garlic,
said it could not draw solid conclusions because there is a lack of large-scale, authoritative research.
The problem is that pharmaceutical companies are not interested in running huge, expensive trials
-- as they would with promising new drug compounds
-- because there is nothing in garlic that they can patent, package and sell at a profit.

Preheat oven to 350F. Place 26 garlic cloves in small glass baking dish.
Add 2 tablespoons olive oil and sprinkle with sea salt and toss to coat.
Cover baking dish tightly with foil and bake until garlic is golden brown and tender, about 45 minutes.
Cool.
Squeeze garlic between fingertips to release cloves.
Transfer cloves to small bowl.
Melt butter in heavy large saucepan over medium-high heat.
Add onions, thyme, ginger and cayenne powder and cook until onions are translucent, about 6 minutes.
Add roasted garlic and 26 raw garlic cloves and cook 3 minutes.
Add vegetable broth; cover and simmer until garlic is very tender, about 20 minutes.
Working in batches, puree soup in blender until smooth. Return soup to saucepan;
add coconut milk and bring to simmer.
Season with sea salt and ground black & red pepper for flavour.
Squeeze juice of 1 lemon wedge into each bowl and serve.
Can be prepared 1 day ahead. Cover and refrigerate. Rewarm over medium heat, stirring occasionally.
If garlic were found to be a wonder drug,
consumers could simply buy it in the supermarket for 30p a bulb or grow their own in the garden.
Nevertheless, garlic has a long and proud tradition as a medicine.
The Ancient Egyptians recommended it for 22 ailments. In a papyrus dated 1500BC,
the labourers who built the pyramids ate it to increase their stamina and keep them healthy.
The Ancient Greeks advocated garlic for everything from curing infections,
and lung and blood disorders to healing insect bites and even treating leprosy.
The Romans fed it to soldiers and sailors to improve their endurance. Dioscorides,
the personal physician to Emperor Nero, wrote a five-volume treatise extolling its virtues.
One of the most interesting of the recent findings is that garlic increases the overall antioxidant levels of the body.
Scientifically known as Allium sativa, garlic has been famous throughout history for its ability to fight off viruses and bacteria.
Louis Pasteur noted in 1858 that bacteria died when they were doused with garlic.
From the Middle Ages on, garlic has been used to treat wounds, being ground or sliced
and applied directly to wounds to inhibit the spread of infection.
The Russians refer to garlic as Russian penicillin.
More recently, researchers have unearthed evidence to show garlic
may help us to stay hale and hearty in a number of ways.
garlic
Last June, nutrition scientists at the University of Florida found eating garlic
can boost the number of T-cells in the bloodstream.
These play a vital role in strengthening our immune systems and fighting viruses.
And pharmacologists at the University of California found that allicin
-- the active ingredient in garlic that contributes to bad breath
-- is an infection-killer.
Allicin also makes our blood vessels dilate,
improving blood flow and helping to tackle cardiovascular problems such as high cholesterol.
An Australian study of 80 patients published last week in the European Journal of Clinical Nutrition
reported that diets high in garlic may reduce high blood pressure.
In 2007, dentists in Brazil found that gargling with garlic water (made by steeping crushed garlic cloves in warm,
but not boiling, water) can kill the germs that cause tooth decay and gum disease.
But they hit a snag: the volunteers refused to continue the experiment,
complaining that the garlic gargle made them feel sick.
Looking at the garlic soup recipe certainly made me feel queasy.
Still, it gave me an excuse to use up my ample supply of garlic.
Though last year's awful weather caused crop failures on my allotment,\ I enjoyed a bumper harvest of garlic.
Among its many other virtues, garlic kills slugs and snails.
Researchers from the University of Newcastle believe it contains oils
that may cripple the nervous systems of these slimy creatures.
There are two schools of thought as to the best way of preparing garlic
to make the most of its medicinal qualities.
Argentinian investigators found it releases its allicin-type compounds when you bake the cloves,
while scientists at South Carolina Medical University believe peeling garlic and letting it sit uncovered
for 15 minutes produces the highest levels of compounds to fight infection.
So you can simply peel half of the garlic cloves and roast the other half
with the kitchen door tightly closed (to stop the pong permeating throughout the house).
After an hour-and-a-quarter's industrious soup-making, sprinkle lemon juice over a bowl of steaming, grey gloop
The heady aroma certainly revs up the appetite and the first spoonful does not disappoint.
Delicious as it is, however, one large bowl of home-made soup is a more than ample meal.
As for the soup's cold-preventing powers, only time will tell.
Regular bowlfuls may very well keep me free of winter ailments,
thanks to the virus-killing compounds they contain.
Or it could just be that my nuclear-strength garlic breath will keep everyone
who is infectious far out of sneezing range for months to come.

One of our easiest and favorite remedies is the Garlic & Honey Cough Remedy.
Simply place cloves of peeled garlic in a mason jar
& cover with unpasteurized raw honey.
Allow to sit 24 hours & it is ready to use.
You can strain out the cloves or not.
We like to leave our cloves in there.
You can also chop the garlic fine, and consume Garlic & Honey all at once.
You cannot overdose on this Cough Remedy, and it is totally safe for kids.
(Except for babies under 12 mos)
Garlic is one of our most potent natural Anti-biotics
& unpasteurized local Honey has so many benefits
that they are too numerous for us to list here

Cinnamon and Honey ~ start your day with it
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Cinnamon and Honey
Honey is the only food on the planet that will not spoil or rot. It will do
what some call turning to sugar. In reality honey is always honey. However,
when left in a cool dark place for a long time it will do what I rather call
"crystallizing" . When this happens I loosen the lid, boil some water, and
sit the honey container in the hot water, off the heat and let it liquefy.
It is then as good as it ever was. Never boil honey or put it in a
microwave. To do so will kill the enzymes in the honey.
Bet the drug companies won't like this one getting around.
Facts on Honey and Cinnamon:
It is found that a mixture of honey and Cinnamon cures most diseases.
Honey is produced in most of the countries of the world. Scientists of today
also accept honey as a 'Ram Ban' (very effective) medicine for all kinds of
diseases.
Honey can be used without any side effects for any kind of diseases.
Today's science says that even though honey is sweet, if taken in the
right dosage as a medicine, it does not harm diabetic patients.
Weekly World News, a magazine in Canada , in its issue dated 17
January,1995 has given the following list of diseases that can be cured by
honey and cinnamon as researched by western scientists:
HEART DISEASES:
Make a paste of honey and cinnamon powder, apply on bread, instead of jelly
and jam, and eat it regularly for breakfast. It reduces the cholesterol in
the arteries and saves the patient from heart attack.
Also, those who have already had an attack, if they do this process daily,
they are kept miles away from the next attack. Regular use of the above
process relieves loss of breath and strengthens the heart beat.
In America and Canada, various nursing homes have treated patients
successfully and have found that as you age, the arteries and veins lose
their flexibility and get clogged; honey and cinnamon revitalize the
arteries and veins.
ARTHRITIS:
Arthritis patients may take daily, morning and night, one cup of hot water
with two spoons of honey and one small teaspoon of cinnamon powder. If
taken regularly even chronic arthritis can be cured. In a recent research
conducted at the Copenhagen University, it was found that when the doctors
treated their patients with a mixture of one tablespoon Honey and half
teaspoon Cinnamon powder before breakfast, they found that within a week,
out of the 200 people so treated, practically 73 patients were totally
relieved of pain, and within a month, mostly all the patients who could not
walk or move around because of arthritis started walking without pain.
BLADDER INFECTIONS:
Take two tablespoons of cinnamon powder and one teaspoon of honey in a glass
of lukewarm water and drink it. It destroys the germs in the bladder.
CHOLESTEROL:
Two tablespoons of honey and three teaspoons of Cinnamon Powder mixed in 16
ounces of tea water, given to a cholesterol patient, was found to reduce the
level of cholesterol in the blood by 10 percent within two hours.
As mentioned for arthritic patients, if taken three times a day, any chronic
cholesterol is cured. According to information received in the said Journal,
pure honey taken with food daily relieves complaints of cholesterol.
COLDS:
Those suffering from common or severe colds should take one tablespoon
lukewarm honey with 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon powder daily for three days. This
process will cure most chronic cough, cold, and clear the sinuses.
UPSET STOMACH:
Honey taken with cinnamon powder cures stomach ache and also clears stomach
ulcers from the root.
GAS:
According to the studies done in India and Japan, it is revealed that if
honey is taken with cinnamon powder the stomach is relieved of gas.
IMMUNE SYSTEM:
Daily use of honey and cinnamon powder strengthens the immune system and
protects the body from bacteria and viral attacks. Scientists have found
that honey has various vitamins and iron in large amounts. Constant use of
Honey strengthens the white blood corpuscles to fight bacterial and viral
diseases.
INDIGESTION:
Cinnamon powder sprinkled on two tablespoons of honey taken before food
relieves acidity and digests the heaviest of meals.
INFLUENZA:
A scientist in Spain has proved that honey contains a natural ' Ingredient'
which kills the influenza germs and saves the patient from flu.
LONGEVITY:
Tea made with honey and cinnamon powder, when taken regularly, arrests the
ravages of old age. Take four spoons of honey, one spoon of cinnamon powder,
and three cups of water and boil to make like tea. Drink 1/4 cup, three to
four times a day. It keeps the skin fresh and soft and arrests old age. Life
spans also increase and even a 100 year old, starts performing the chores of
a 20-year-old.
PIMPLES:
Three tablespoons of honey and one teaspoon of cinnamon powder paste. Apply
this paste on the pimples before sleeping and wash it next morning with warm
water. If done daily for two weeks, it removes pimples from the root.
SKIN INFECTIONS:
Applying honey and cinnamon powder in equal parts on the affected parts
cures eczema, ringworm and all types of skin infections.
WEIGHT LOSS:
Daily in the morning one half hour before breakfast on an empty stomach, and
at night before sleeping, drink honey and cinnamon powder boiled in one cup
of water. If taken regularly, it reduces the weight of even the most obese
person. Also, drinking this mixture regularly does not allow the fat to
accumulate in the body even though the person may eat a high calorie diet.
CANCER:
Recent research in Japan and Australia has revealed that advanced cancer of
the stomach and bones have been cured successfully. Patients suffering from
these kinds of cancer should daily take one tablespoon of honey with one
teaspoon of cinnamon powder for one month three times a day.
FATIGUE:
Recent studies have shown that the sugar content of honey is more helpful
rather than being detrimental to the strength of the body. Senior citizens,
who take honey and cinnamon powder in equal parts, are more alert and
flexible. Dr. Milton, who has done research, says that a half tablespoon of
honey taken in a glass of water and sprinkled with cinnamon powder, taken
daily after brushing and in the afternoon at about 3:00 P.M. when the
vitality of the body starts to decrease, increases the vitality of the body
within a week.
BAD BREATH:
People of South America, first thing in the morning, gargle with one
teaspoon of honey and cinnamon powder mixed in hot water, so their breath
stays fresh throughout the day.
HEARING LOSS:
Daily morning and night honey and cinnamon powder, taken in equal parts
restores hearing. Remember when we were kids? We had toast with real
butter and cinnamon sprinkled on it!

Hubby just brought home a jar of unpasteurized raw honey and I mixed it with my fresh raw lemon juice and it was delicious.
My first husband was cured of his seasonal allergies when I spread honey cappings from a local beehive on his toast.
I was lightly researching the different types of cinnamon on the internet and have not decided which species and form of cinnamon is the most effective. I did notice that cinnamon reduced my insulin response regarding sweets.
best,

will have to try it the next time i can afford to splurge on honey (it is relatively expensive for me).

Hibiscus Iced Tea:
(guess where to find Organic Hibiscus...)
7 cups water, divided
1 cup hibiscus flowers
1 cup sugar (can substitute with stevia, honey etc)
Bring 6 cups water and hibiscus flowers to a boil in a large saucepan.
Reduce heat to low, simmer 5 minutes. Remove from heat, stir in sugar.
Pour mixture through a wire-mesh strainer into a pitcher, discarding hibiscus flowers.(or not)
Stir in remaining 1 cup water. Chill until cool. Serve over ice. H
INT-pour some of your Iced T into ice cube trays, freeze.
Use T cubes instead of ice cubes, this way your Iced T doesn't get watery.
Hisbiscus has a cooling effect in the body, helps to lower blood pressure.
Magically, always use a red Hibiscus flower to bring good fortune, peace & love.

Blacklisted: GMO Supporting Food Companies to Avoid Featured Hot
Blacklisted: GMO Supporting Food Companies to Avoid
Author: Daisy Luther
A genetically modified rose by any other name may smell sweet, but it could still have frankenthorns that might independently detach themselves
and lop off your finger while you’re smelling it.
That’s not unlike a trip to the grocery store these days.
There are a lot of ugly surprises in pretty, charmingly-named packages.
It seems like no matter how hard you try to avoid them, GMOs and toxic foods creep into your life.
Take for example, the earthily-packaged “natural” foods that are showcased in your grocery store aisles.
They cost twice as much, have obscure brand names, and tout their health benefits and natural sources.
You can almost smell the freshly tilled soil when you pick up the box.
Unfortunately, this is nothing more than corporate sleight-of-hand.
Many of the products that seem so good are actually just subsidiaries of the companies that were most complicit in blocking GMO labeling,
aided and abetted by everyone’s favorite purveyor of death, Monsanto.
(Monsanto, incidentally, donated $7,100,500.00 to the fight against the labeling of GMO-containing products.)
Don’t forget that Monsanto is now above the law due to the Monsanto Protection Act, a traitorous rider that Senator Roy Blunt
managed to attach to a bill that was subsequently signed into law by President Obama.
(you know, that guy in the White House, who made the labeling of GMOs one of his 2007 campaign promises?)
I wish I could make a comprehensive list, but there are more stealthily labeled toxins on the shelves every single day.
It all boils down to a these big companies that own nearly all of the foods sold in the United States.
Some of the quietly owned subsidiaries may surprise you.
Included is the amount that the company (and its subsidiaries) donated to defeat California Proposition 37 which would have required GMO labeling.
Not every item on this list contains genetically modified ingredients.
The list is based on the duplicitous marketing of the companies.
More consumers are trying to make healthy choices at the grocery stores, but it’s difficult when companies push their toxic wares
and dress them up as health food.
Young people in particular fall victim to these schemes.
You have to give a kid credit for purchasing something called “Vitamin Water” over a soda pop, and it’s infuriating that the kid,
trying to make a good choice, has been tricked into the purchase by deceitful advertising and marketing.
Some of the products listed, may in fact be exactly what they are portrayed to be,
but I choose not to financially support the corporations behind them.
Protect your health and help starve the beast by avoiding products distributed by these companies and their subsidiaries:
Campbell’s - $250,000.00
Healthy Request
Wolfgang Puck Soups
Pace Foods

A little bit of good news…
There are a few companies you can still count on
It isn’t all bad news. There are a few companies you can still count on
– keep in mind that corporate mergers take place every day.
When businesses change hands, there is no obligation to notify the public.
One such cautionary tale took place with the company Dean’s, which acquired Horizon Foods.
They quietly phased out the use of organic products without making any changes to the label
and used non-organic milk produced under factory farm conditions.
As well, they dropped the quality of their organic soy and began purchasing cheaper harvests from Asia.
Meanwhile, unwitting retailers had no idea that the company had ceased producing the items organically,
and continued to promote the products as they had previous to the acquisition.
Right now, these are some of the GOOD LABELS to look for:

Another way to avoid unscrupulous food producers is through an App called Buycott.
If you happen to have an iPhone, this App can be used to check a product that you see in the stores to see what corporate links exist.
You can find it HERE. (Thank you to Miranda for this link!) If I had a cellphone, I would definitely download this tool.

6 Ways to Naturally Prevent and Get Rid of Fleas on Dogs
I share my life with many four-legged friends, owning 2 dogs and fostering at least 2 others at any given time.
My canine companions make up a huge part of my life so, naturally, I want to care for them…naturally.
Like human medications popular dog medications, such as flea and tick preventatives,
are full of strange chemicals that could have potentially harmful side effects.
If you have little ones running around the house,
you don’t want them getting into the medication or touching the dog after it’s applied.
Since I foster and have rescues coming in from all kinds of places,
I have to be up on the flea care year round. Instead of constantly applying synthetic repellents,
there are natural substitutes I can turn to that can help keep the little beasties at bay.
6 Home Remedies for Fleas- keep your dogs bite free without using harsh chemicals.
Why the ingredients: The essential oils/ingredients used here are all natural insecticide/pesticides,
shown to either kill or deter the pests due to their various compounds/naturally occurring chemicals.
Indeed, many of them are found in commercial flea/tick preventative.
1. Flea collar
A flea collar is a great way to ward off fleas without always having to reapply something topically, and it keeps the flea control constant and steady.
You will need…
-3-5 drops of cedar oil or lavender oil
- 1-3 tablespoons of water
-Bandana OR your dog’s collar
-an eyedropper (optional)
Directions
Dilute 2-3 drops of your chosen oil in 1-3 tablespoons of water. Some people use the oil undiluted,
but I personally feel it should always be diluted, even if it’s only by a little.
Next, pick out a bandana to be the flea collar-I think a bandana is preferable
because you can take it on and off and your dog’s collar won’t smell.
It’s always fun to get creative with patterns and colors here.
If you go up to ½ teaspoon you can use up to 5 drops of the liquid. Using an eyedropper or other similar means,
apply 5-10 drops of the mixture to the bandana and rub the sides of the fabric together,
and then tie it about your dog’s neck in a snazzy way.
Reapply oil mixture to the collar once a week.
In conjunction with this, 1 or 2 drops of oil diluted with at least 1 tablespoon of olive oil can be placed at the base of your dog’s tail.

2. Flea deterring drink- can be used alongside any of these remedies.
You will need…
-1 teaspoon white distilled vinegar or apple cider vinegar
Directions
For every 40 pound dog add 1 teaspoon of white distilled vinegar or apple cider vinegar to 1 quart of their drinking water.
We highly recommend using Braggs Apple Cider Vinegar. Not only does it deter fleas, it improves a pups skin and coat condition from the inside-out.
drink to get rid of fleas
3. Flea comb
This contains lemon and lemon contains something called limonene, which is a chemical that kills and repels fleas but is harmless to us or our pets.
You will need…
-1 freshly sliced up lemon
-1 pot of fresh water
-a comb, sponge, or brush
Directions
Boil a pot of water and add the slices of a freshly cut lemon to it. Turn off the heat after the lemons has been added and cover the pot,
letting the mixture steep overnight. The next day dip a comb or your pets brush in the liquid (make sure it’s sufficiently cool)
and run it through their hair. A sponge works as well, especially if you have a very short haired breed.
A quick version is to bring water to a vigorous boil and then pour over a freshly sliced lemon. Then just dip the comb, let it cool, and use as above.
comb
4. Flea spray
As a bonus, your pup will get a nice gleaming finish to their coat after using this flea spray.
You will need…
-1 cup white distilled vinegar OR 1 cup apple cider vinegar OR a 50/50 blend of both
-1 quart fresh water
-2-3 drops of lavender or cedar oil
-a decent sized spray bottle
Directions
The essential oil isn’t vital, but it certainly gives the spray an extra edge (and a nice smell.) If you’re using it,
add 2-3 drops as you add 1 cup of white distilled vinegar/apple cider vinegar/both to 1 quart of fresh water.
Fill your spray bottle, and mist your dog, being careful not to get it in their eyes, nose, or ears-aka avoid spraying near the face.
To get up around the neck and behind the ears/their chin area, dampen a soft cloth with the mixture and wipe it on.
Spray your pets bedding and around it with this mixture lightly as well.
flea spray
5. Flea (be-gone) bag
This little sachet contains things that smell pleasant to us, but that drive pests away from your pet.
You will need…
-Two 6 inch squares of breathable fabric (such as muslin)
-a rough handful of cedar chips
-1-2 teaspoons of dried lavender buds
-the peel of 1 lemon
Directions
Follow the instructions on how to make a sachet here if you need more detail.
Cut 2 6 inch squares of fabric and place them together inside out.
Sew all but 1 side and turn inside out. Fill with a rough handful of fragrant cedar chips,
1-2 teaspoons of lavender, and 1 lemon peel.
Leave enough room at the top so you can tie it off with a ribbon or sew it shut
(tying allows you to reuse it when the contents lose their potency.)
Place under your pets bed/bedding or near it to ward off fleas.
Change the mixture every month or so.
flea bag
6. Flea bath- wash your pup with this weekly to deter fleas.
You will need…
-A half a cup of freshly squeezed lemon juice*
-1 ½ – 2 cups of fresh water
-1/4 –1/2 cup of mild pet-friendly soap or shampoo
Directions
Stir together a half a cup of lemon juice, 1 ½ cups of water, and ¼ cup of mild pet-friendly shampoo or soap.
Bottle and label and bathe weekly to keep fleas away.
*amounts will vary depending on the size of your dog.
As a general rule of thumb, use 2 parts water to every ½ cup of soap and lemon juice.
NOTE: You must always dilute essential oil before using them. Pay attention to and read and respect your dog’s body language.
It may sound odd, but let them sniff the different scents and see how they react.
Whichever one you think they “like” the most, or will tolerate should be the one you use.
It is estimated that dogs can identify scents 1,000-10,000 times better than humans.
Imagine something you hate the smell of, and then imagine it being rubbed all over your body and smelling it 1,000 times stronger!
I cannot begin to say how engrained into my life dogs are. Their wellbeing is of the utmost importance to me,
and if I can avoid strange chemicals, I will do so in the same way I avoid them myself.
Dogs are natural beings, just as we are, and should rightly be treated as such.
