Earthquake in Virginia Updated 2:47 p.m. ET:

A "considerable amount" of water from a water pipe has flooded two corridors of the Pentagon, according to an announcement in the building. People who work in those areas are being asked to stay in their offices while workers try to repair the damage.

The National Cathedral in Washington is damaged, CNN has confirmed.

And Dominion Generation, which operates the North Anna nuclear power station in central Virginia a few miles from the epicenter of the earthquake, is trying to reach operational staff at the plant, according to a company spokesman. Landlines to the plant appear to be down.

I've been talking to a lady in Virginia who was 15 miles from the epicenter. She checked her house and the foundation is cracked. the big difference is the land on which these are occurring. Mostly granite covered here. she is presently smoking her brains out and having a beer I think....poor thing is shaken to the core I tell ya.

Now isn't it interesting that two quakes happen today......and what fault is in the center?...whoa!

They must all be on antidepressant or something. They don't feel anything unless the news tell them to.

It was subtle. I felt dizzy a few seconds from the building swaying. I asked the others if they felt something and they didn't. Then I went on GLP and saw all the quake threads and told them it must have been an earthquake. As always they dismissed my theory with a few bad jokes, until a few minutes later when it hit the news.

    From Research and Development Scientist

    Quote

Puerto Rico goverment anounced a total shutdowm

Schools , goverment offices , services , all shut down ....

and i have never seen this not even in category 5 hurricanes ....

we had being seismicaly active lately ....

    [link to earthquake.usgs.gov]

the USA seismic events may shift mayor pressure to the carribean plate , fault may rupture north of santo domingo and then unzip toward north of san juan puerto rico in event surpassing banta c (Asian Sunami Quakes) or japan ones....

be on alert and vigilant to events unfolding....

the energy released in that quake was not a mere 5.9 , it contained a mayor low frequency massive continental shift
that can be verrified by simple GPS on known coordinate points ...

Please explain what you mean. Are you saying that the earthquake in Virginia today shifted a plate that can/will cause a sunami in the Gulf soon? How do you know this? When?

    answer:

    - the carribean plate faultline that runs from Puerto Rico to Cuba received an increased stress due to continental US shifting its mass .... that can cause mayor shifting causing a sunami on the zone that can affect east US coast

    Florida and the Gulf ....

I've been feeling the shaking for twenty four hours now, off and on. It's rumbling under my feet at this moment, very slight, but definitely there. I am in north georgia.

Last night I sent a "Did You Feel It" report into the USGS. I was that certain that there was movement.

Here we go folks, it's not letting up. Ringing in the left ear again right before the two Virginia quakes, today, and now I have ringing in the left ear again, big time.

Hang on tight there, Metaw and Brook, here we go!

There is also a 4.4 on the California-Nevada border that is in line with the Colorado, Virginia and Japan quakes.

I am here. I have been checking in, but my own psychic and existential angst have clouded my mind.

I managed to get Gregg out of Oregon. Our time together was great, yet intensely fraught with "reality": relationships are work. How quickly I forget. His bronze-able backside is back in the Monterey area, whilst he wraps things up with his family, and/or before I completely run out of patience and come to my senses.

The full moon over Shasta was great, by the way.

I figured you were busy Troy. Good for you. Full moon over Shasta - what a treat.

I'm worried. Take a look at this.

Planetary alignments and coronal hole in sun along with HAARP activity - just what none of us need. It's like getting a triple whammy.

    3.6-Magnitude Earthquake Strikes East Bay
    Posted: 10:44 am PDT August 24, 2011
    Updated: 11:31 am PDT August 24, 2011

A 3.6-magnitude earthquake rattled the Bay Area for the second time in as many days, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
The quake struck in the East Bay at 9:47 a.m. Wednesday, with its epicenter about three miles north-northeast of San Leandro and six miles east-southeast of Oakland and a depth of 5.7 miles.

There were reports that the tremor was felt around the East Bay as far away as Martinez. A manager with the Alta Bates Summit Medical Center in Berkeley reported that the building swayed from the seismic activity.

September 1, 2011 – CHRISTCHURCH, NZ - Two strong aftershocks have jangled nerves in New Zealand’s second biggest city, where an earthquake killed 181 people and destroyed the central district six months ago. Since the 6.3-magnitude quake on February 22, the Christchurch region has experienced more than 4,000 aftershocks, hampering the recovery effort and reinforcing uncertainty about the future. Leanne Curtis, who lives in one of the worst affected residential areas, said: “Do you stay and keep wondering if there’ll be another big one, or do you go?” Mrs. Curtis’s house is one of more than 5,000 deemed uninhabitable as a result of the February quake, which liquefied the ground in suburbs east of the city centre. The government has offered to buy homes located in the “red zone”, but some residents are reluctant to rebuild elsewhere, while others say they cannot afford to do so because land prices have rocketed. A Royal Commission has been examining why so many buildings in the centre were destroyed. Nearly two thirds of people died in one office block, the Canterbury Television (CTV) building, which pancaked and collapsed in February. No one inside survived. Among those hoping for answers is Iraqi-born Maan Alkaisi, who lost his wife, Maysoon Abbas, in the tragedy. A doctor, she was working in a clinic in the CTV building. Mr Alkaisi wants to know why she and the others died in a building only 25 years old. He said she had told him that the building felt shaky. “It was built in 1986, not 1886,” he said. “We knew a lot about earthquakes at that time. For a building to collapse in such a drastic way, there must have been a drastic design failure.” Yesterday’s tremors, measuring 4.0 and 4.8, came just before the first anniversary this Sunday of a 7.1-magnitude quake that caused widespread damage in Christchurch but claimed no lives. The February quake was shallower and centered closer to the city. Christchurch’s mayor, Bob Parker, said it feels as if the city has been under “seismic attack” for 12 months. –The National
