5000 Dead Birds? - Page 5 Empty Re: 5000 Dead Birds?

I still think all of the animal deaths are related to an electromagnetic weapon. Researcher Dr. Joseph P. Farrell shared his thoughts on the massive, worldwide wave of bird and fish deaths. He suggested that the events could be caused by either weather manipulation or the testing of electromagnetic technology such as HAARP. Given the variety of species that have been affected, Farrell ruled out biological weapons as a possible cause for the deaths. He also observed that the wave of animal deaths has had a sociological effect, where "it seems to be planting a meme, in the cultural consciousness, of dire apocalyptic things happening."

I still suspect some type of scalar type experiments.

    DEAD BIRDS AND “TORSION TESLA”
Experts Suspect Military Testing Behind Mass Bird and Fish Deaths

    Terrence Aym Salem-News.com
The birds suffered from acute physical trauma leading to internal hemorrhage and death" -Arkansas Game and Fish Commission

Two animals in two days, have died off by the thousands in Arkansas; a local fish and wildlife official jokingly told a reporter, "We're waiting on the locusts next".

(CHICAGO) - It's been said that Mankind will destroy itself. Unfortunately, during the past 100 years the human race has worked hard to make this prediction come true. Nuclear arsenals can destroy Mankind many times over. Alien biological weapons exist that can annihilate all humanity. Toxins are available that are so deadly a few drops in a city's water supply can kill millions.

Yet another weapons technology has been under development for some decades. Scalar technology—invented by the genius Nikola Tesla early in the 20th Century—has the potential to turn the environment itself into a weapon and tune its deadly properties into a merciless, near instantaneous killer.

That advanced technology may have just been tested in Arkansas and Louisiana.

Ominous evidence is steadily growing that the bizarre red wing blackbird deaths—now being reported across three states—are not natural.

Although some scientists have proposed that the initial bird death—numbered at 5,000—might have been caused by fireworks, ornithologists scoff at that suggestion.

Other theories floating about include speculation that severe updrafts or a local micro-burst killed all the birds, yet that is highly improbable and does not jive with eyewitness testimony of local residents who watched the birds literally drop from the sky.

Other witnessed claim that not all the birds that fell were already dead. Some were still alive and appeared confused or dazed. A few even made desperate attempts to seek shelter inside houses—seemingly trying to escape whatever was killing them outdoors.

A freak meteorological phenomenon also cannot account for reports of mass bird deaths that followed the Arkansas incident. Red wing blackbirds have also been seen falling out of the skies over Louisiana and reported by an eyewitness in Kentucky.

"The birds suffered from acute physical trauma leading to internal hemorrhage and death," the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission said in a statement Monday. "There was no sign of chronic or infectious disease."

That eliminates the possibility of West Nile virus or some other avian illness.

According to NBC News, Arkansas's official state veterinarian, Dr. George Badley, stated the blackbirds died in mid-flight, not upon impact with the ground after they fell.

Either the birds ran into something…or something ran into the birds.

    http://gizadeathstar.com/

    Flame Quote:

“Curiously, like the birds, all the fish that died were only one species.”

So what we are dealing with here is a weapon:

    A) That is specifically intended to kill a particular species of animal?

    or

    B) Consequently kills a particular species of animal?

Does the physics behind this scalar technology have anything to do with certain genetics or DNA of a given biological species?

I am just trying to rationalize the possibility of a military operation or exercise behind this. If the military intent is to target a specific species, genome, or race, then maybe we have a clue as to what this all means.

If they are testing this weapon on these birds and fish at this scale, what could this mean, in regard to a full blown military operation on a nation or specific group of people?

THE BIG QUESTION IS IF THIS IS MAN-MADE, WHO IS DOING IT AND WHY?

    Mass bird deaths in Turkey

Here is the translation done by SRWARE IRON browser

    In Turkey's mass killing birds
    Vesti.Ru , 6 hours ago

In Turkey, there was a case of an unexplained mass deaths of birds.
Dead starlings found residents of the county Karacabey in Bursa province. On the road were dozens of carcasses of birds. Promptly reported the incident to local authorities launched an investigation of the incident.
Experts are currently conducting the necessary tests. However, while they failed to establish the cause of death of starlings. According to ITAR-TASS news agency, according to one version, the flock of birds could crash a few heavy-duty trucks, marching one after another.
On the unexplained mass death of birds, the world's media began reporting on New Years Eve, when about 4 thousands of blackbirds fell dead near the small town Biib in Arkansas. Later, similar cases occurred in Louisiana and Kentucky. Also, incidents of mass deaths of birds have been recorded in Canada, Sweden and Italy.

    Holland
From Gastrat on The Big Wobble

I was travelling south today from Den Helder towards my own city Alkmaar in North Holland around 4:PM. I had a strange feeling I would be seeing some dead birds, don't know where the feeling came from I just knew, like we all have sometimes, so as I left Den Helder on the A9 I decided to stay alert and watch the surrounding countryside as I drove.
The weather was cold but very sunny and the surrounding countryside wonderful but nothing unusual. However halfway through my journey I suddenly started seeing black shapes lying along the side of the road, I focused my eyes and realised they where DEAD BIRDS!
I pulled over into a parking bay and grabbed my camera, what I saw was shocking, about fifty birds where lying dead by the side of the road, or on the field close by, birds littered the other side of the road too but I couldn't come there because of the busy traffic.
Most of these birds have been hit by vehicles, it's plain to see but why so many in one small area, about 500 metres and the rest of the journey I saw nothing, no more birds, it just doesn't make sense.
Why would all these birds die in one small area?
I didn't have time to take photo's of all the birds and the ones on the other side of the road where impossible to reach, I would conservatly estimate 50+ birds in less than a Kilometer?

More than a dozen dead birds spotted along Missouri highway

Jefferson County (KSDK) -- A NewsChannel 5 viewer called in late Saturday afternoon about more than a dozen dead birds, scattered on an overpass in Jefferson County, along Old Highway 21 and just south of Rock Creek Road.

So, after getting out there ourselves to see the starlings, we called the executive director of the World Bird Santuary, Walter Crawford, and he explained what he thought the cause of this actually common fall-out could be.

"You have an overpass there," he said. "A lot of times birds will roost under these overpasses, especially in really cold winter...and, of course, mother nature weeds out the sick, the old and the injured and it could be that these were birds that were very old and just couldn't deal with the climate."

Crawford added that the bird community is still trying to determine the cause of previous bird fall-outs in other parts of the country, but he adds the one here is nothing like it and we shouldn't worry about the bird community's well-being nor ours as a result of what we saw today in Jefferson County.

Why Are the Fish and Birds Only Dying In Western Friendly Nations?
    LUCUS 01/09/2011 3:41PM CST

There is something strange going on and the pun is fully intended when I say that something smells fishy.

Birds dying by the thousands, tons and tons of dead fish washing up on the shores, strange unexplained missile launches...what's it all mean?

So, as the list of nations grows that have been affected by this phenomenon a certain pattern emerges. Notice it?

There have been no bird and fish kills in Russia and only a small kill of Eagles in China? Eagles...really? The Eagle is a symbol of the United States, the country that seems to be sustaining the biggest hit. How symbolic that only Eagles would fall in China.

Here is a Google map that lays out the bird/fish kills. Notice a lack of activity in China and Russia? Notice how America seems to be getting slammed? How about the fact that all the countries that seem to be affected are Western friendly?

Where are all the fish and bird kills in Russia, China, and all the Middle Eastern countries that are against the U.S.A?

To make it even more strange, there seems to have been a mystery missile launce off the Texas coast near Corpus Christi during this epic mass death of birds and fish.

Notice in the map above that the pattern seems to have started in Texas and worked it's way up the East Coast. An aerosol launched off the coast of Texas would work its way up the Eastern U.S.A. via the Jet Stream. Look at the pattern.

Here is the video of the missile launch off the Texas Coast that happened on the 4th of January, 2011. Coincidence?

Moving Magnetic North Pole May be the Cause of Mysterious Bird, Fish & Crab Deaths
    8 janvier 2011 00:20

The steady and rapid movement of the Magnetic North Pole may be responsible for the recent, sudden and mysterious death of thousands of birds and millions of fish in the US.
In the last week, nearly 100,000 fish washed up on the shores of the Arkansas River, dead. Also in Arkansas, thousands of red-winged blackbirds fell from the sky and plummeted to the ground where they were also found dead. The scene repeated itself in Southern Louisiana where 500 red-winged blackbirds recently plunged out of the sky, dead on arrival, and in Chesapeake Bay, thousands of dead fish have begun washing up onto bay shores. Recently several million animals have mysteriously died in the United States. Although some thought that the cause may have been related to fireworks, disease and sudden cold, the cause may be more obvious, the steady, but rapid movement of the Magnetic North Pole towards Russia.

The following are some recent mysterious bird deaths and fish death incidences that have occurred in the United States:

12/31/2010 5,000 redwinged blackbirds plunged to their death.
01/03/2011 100,000 fish wash up dead in Arkansas
01/04/2011 500 birds were found littering a Louisiana highway
01/05/2011 Hundreds of birds fall out of the sky in Murray Kentucky
01/06/2011 Thousands of Turtle Doves fall for the skys, dead in Italy
01/06/2011 Two million fish that wash up on the shores of the Chesapeake Bay in Maryland
01/06/2011 40,000 Crabs wash up dead on the coastline near Kent, England.
Navigation systems of birds, fish & other wild life:

It is a commonly accepted notion that the navigation systems of many animals are effected by magnetism. According to the NewScientist BIRDS that navigate using the Earth's magnetic field rely more on their eyes than on the magnetic particles in their nostrils, an experiment on robins suggests and careful tests with homing pigeons and other birds displaying the ability to judge direction show that the birds are effected by changing magnetic fields.

Additionally, a team of scientists in New Zealand have brought us another step closer to understanding the magnetic sense of the trout, indicating that the trout's compass is inside its head, near the nose. They found that a fresh-water fish, the trout, would respond to a magnetic field.

Science also suggests that insects use a similar magnetic sense to determine direction citing.

    5000 Dead Birds? - Page 5 11-01_magnetic-north-pole-move

    The Shift of Magnetic North

Over the past century The Magnetic North Pole has been shifting toward Russia at a steady pace, in fact, at an average of 25 miles per year, an alarming rate considering how many systems are dependent on its location. Compass needles in Africa, for instance, are drifting about 1 degree per decade. And globally the magnetic field has weakened 10% since the 19th century. Another factor to consider is that the Earth's Magnetic Poles Flip Regularly. In the past 330,000,000 years the poles have juxtaposed 400 times, or on an average of once every 825,000 years, the last such time was approximately 780,000+/- years ago, making us statistically within one standard deviation of an upcoming Magnetic Pole Reversal. Considering that these reversals take appromiately 1,000 years to complete and the massive move and reduction in strength, we may be within a handful of generations away for such a Magnetic North Pole Reversal.

More Evidence of the Effect of the Movement of Magnetic North

January 2011, TAMPA - Scientists say the magnetic north pole is moving toward Russia and the fallout has reached -- of all places -- Tampa International Airport. The airport has closed its primary runway until Jan. 13 to repaint the numeric designators at each end and change taxiway signage to account for the shift in location of the Earth's magnetic north pole.

Cause of Bird and Fish Death

Considering southern migration patterns and environmental cues that wildlife take, it would stand to reason that with the Magnetic North Pole losing strength and moving over and across the True North Pole toward Russia, e.g. Away from the Southern United States in distance and strength, it would stand to reason that birds and fish may be confused as to their distance and direction from the locations they instinctively should be heading. A failure to interpret the location and distance of the Magnetic North Pole could clearly lead to a failure for birds and fish to properly migrate south in time to overt cold spells and imminent death.

Major, Bizarre Fish Die-Off Along Lakefront
    January 11, 2011

    http://chicago.cbslocal.com/2011/01/11/major-bizarre-fish-die-off-along-lakefront/

CHICAGO (STMW) – A bizarre scene is evolving on the Chicago lakefront, with Canada geese and mallard ducks gulping down dead or dying gizzard shad.
A major die-off of what appears to be the 2010 class is happening in Chicago harbors. Thousands, perhaps far more than that, of dead gizzard shad in the 3- to 5-inch range are frozen in the ice of Chicago harbors or floating around in open patches of water.

“Gizzard shad are pretty sensitive,’’ Lake Michigan Program biologist Dan Makauskas said. “On the toughness scale, the herrings are pretty soft.’’
Gizzard shad, members of the herring family, are more sensitive to drops in oxygen levels than most fish. And thick ice came early to Chicago harbors in December.

The massive die-off was first documented Thursday by Carl Vizzone, a North Side fisherman who sits on the board of Perch America. What caught his eye was Canada geese and mallards eating dying shad at open water by DuSable and Diversey harbors. “This is not normal,’’ he said.
He’s right, agreed naturalist Joel Greenberg, author of A Natural History of the Chicago Region. Canada geese and mallards normally don’t eat fish, but, Greenberg said, “They are opportunistic.”

Other species of fish do not appear to be involved in the die-off.
Makauskas, who speculated that the young shad may not have built up enough reserves to survive the early onslaught of extreme cold, agreed the die-off is abnormal.

First dead birds, then dead fish ... now crickets

PORT ALLEN, La. — A virus has killed millions of crickets raised to feed pet reptiles and those kept in zoos.
The cricket paralysis virus has disrupted supplies to pet shops across North America as a handful of operators have seen millions of their insects killed.

Some operations have gone bankrupt and others have closed indefinitely until they can rid their facilities of the virus.
Cricket farms started in the 1940s as a source of fish bait, but the bulk of sales now are to pet supply companies, reptile owners and zoos, although people also eat some.

Most U.S. farms are in the South, but suppliers from Pennsylvania to California also raise crickets.
The virus had swept through European cricket farms in 2002. It was first noticed in 2009 in the U.S. and Canada.
The virus marks the latest in a recent series of mass animal deaths.

Blackbirds fell out of the sky on New Year's Eve in Arkansas. In the days that followed, 2 million fish died in the Chesapeake Bay, 150 tons of red tilapia in Vietnam, 40,000 crabs in Britain and other places across the world.
However, biologists say these mass die-offs happen all the time and usually are unrelated.

Federal records show they happen on average every other day somewhere in North America.
Video: Arkansas’ animal deaths: Coincidence or conspiracy? (on this page)
In the past eight months, the U.S. Geological Survey's National Wildlife Health Center has logged 95 mass wildlife die-offs in North America and that's probably a dramatic undercount, officials say.

    The list includes:
900 some turkey vultures that seemed to drown and starve in the Florida Keys.
4,300 ducks killed by parasites in Minnesota.
1,500 salamanders done in by a virus in Idaho.
2,000 bats that died of rabies in Texas.
And the still mysterious death of 2,750 sea birds in California.

Officials blamed the deaths of 5,000 red-winged blackbirds in Beebe, Ark., on New Year's Eve fireworks.
Experts say the loud cracks and booms likely sent the birds into such a tizzy that they crashed into homes, cars and each other before plummeting to their deaths.

From Sheldan Nidle's most recent GFL channeling:

Recently, we informed you that she is in the process of locking in her major tectonic plates, and this is associated with the changes in the geomagnetic and electrical fields of your planet’s surface. The changes in these fields are starting to intensify. The many large earthquakes over the past six years are speeding up Gaia’s axis change and causing havoc with the internal magnetic compass possessed by all life on the planet. This accounts for the vast numbers of animal deaths recorded recently, and this death toll is further boosted by the effects of sudden climate change in both the Northern and Southern Hemispheres.

I'll just stick my neck way out here and do a composit suppositon based on incoming data from a variety of sources.

We are in the middle of an 'ET Time War' who are in the process of merging timelines for their own nefarious purposes and set the planet on a spin as it is already dealing with PX and the magnetic pull on the globe below the horizon along with increased gamma rays (resulting from moving closer to the galactic core) creating more volcanic activity which throws more moisture up into the upper atmosphere creating more wind, snow and rain. Then we have the weather wars going on between a few countries out to paralyze those that would help the US (I suspect ? - only because we aren't getting the weird reports from them, that we are getting from others BUT it is more likely the negative ETs up to their necks in BS just making life on the planet miserable for as many humans as possible so they can enjoy their Thanksgiving feast (since the feed off of negative energy) everyday of the week).

I still think the majority of the die offs are human related in some way just because we really are that stupid when it comes to being shepards for the birds and beasts of the planet. Heck, we can't even be shepards for ourselves. But again, I really know nothing and am just throwing out possibilities. However, I'm also leaning toward the changes in earth magnetic lay lines, earth fissures and gas leaking out below in the water. I am kind of fond of the 'ET Time Wars' theory and think that would make a great movie title. Kind of reminds me of Dr. Who and the Daleks. Oh, and according to conactee Starfire Thor, the ETs are having time wars between themselves and humankind is just caught in the middle of all of this. All along I thought the timelines would collapse and we converge toward singularity when the galactic wave crosses but when I reread this little blip I look like a complete nutter myself.

Hmm, it's time for a Mars bar but they don't sell them around here anymore. (sigh) I recall hearing this one story where this very rich man's lady went around buying up all the Mars bars and taking them down into their underground bunker.

Well, us surface dwellers are also getting weather alerts in our area for flash floods but since we live on the side of a volcano, I just refuse to get too excited about more rain. I'm just grateful I don't have to go out and water the fruit trees.

    ATHENS, AL —
Wednesday morning, we got a handful of emails and phone calls from viewers who said there appeared to be a massive bird kill on the side of Interstate 65 in Limestone County. That's exactly what we found when we got there.

Just south of Athens, near mile marker 347, there were around 300 dead blackbirds just off the side of the northbound lanes.

Alcohol poisoning, not avian flu, killed Romanian birds

People who discovered the dead birds were worried they had died of avian flu

Birds that were thought to have died from avian flu in Romania instead apparently drank themselves to death.

Residents of Constanta in eastern Romania found dozens of dead starlings on the outskirts of the city on Saturday.

They alerted authorities, fearing the birds had died from avian flu.

But local veterinary officials decided the starlings had died after eating grape 'marc' - the leftovers from the wine-making process.

The head of the local sanitary and veterinary authority, Dvsva, told news agency Agerpres that analysis of the starlings' gizzards showed they had died from alcohol poisoning.

There have been a number of unexplained mass bird deaths recently in several countries, including the United States and Sweden.

Fireworks were blamed for the deaths of thousands of red-winged blackbirds in Arkansas, while in Sweden officials believe almost 100 jackdaws found dead in the centre of a town had simply been run over

All of this makes me so angry 5000 Dead Birds? - Page 5 75211 birds, dolphins, whales, fish, frogs...we know there is a magnetic pole shift underway i.e. Florida airport runways had to have their designations altered to fit the compass readings...now reading this article from Natural News there may be evidence of "poisonous space clouds" composed of hydrogen cyanide entering through gaps in the magnetosphere due to the magnetic pole shift and as if that is not enough HARP may also be a culprit in this whole picture!! If this is true we humans could be on the extinction list. Does anyone know what happens if hydrogen cyanide is mixed with H2O (water)? Just curious I am not a chemist but would like to know if there is a colour change to the water.

750 African Greys die on Durban flight
    2011-01-13

    http://www.news24.com/SouthAfrica/News/750-African-Greys-die-on-Durban-flight-20110113

Durban - More than 750 African Grey parrots worth about R2m died on a flight from Johannesburg to Durban.

The news has caused shock waves among conservationists, bird breeders and those involved in the aviation industry. The parrots died on December 24 on a flight operated by 1time.

Dr Steve Boyes, director of the organisation World Parrot Trust Africa, said steps should be taken to ensure that something like this never happens again.

The parrots were part of an order of 1 650 adult African Greys which were caught in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) to be sold to South African breeders.

Ben Moodie, a well-respected Boksburg lawyer, alleges the birds were to be imported for his business Iceland Industrial Projects. He said he was only informed of the birds' fate on December 29.

"At the OR Tambo quarantine the birds were fine and I was informed that on arrival at King Shaka they were dead. I can understand a few casualties along the route, it happens. (But) this doesn't gel and I can only satisfy myself if they show me the carcasses," a distraught Moodie told The Witness.

Altogether 800 of these parrots were imported to South Africa in November. A further 850 are still being held in the DRC, ready to be brought to South Africa.

    Disputed

In mid-December the parrots, which were then being kept in quarantine for 30 days at a state facility in Kempton Park, in accordance with legislation, became the focus of a long-standing dispute between breeders and in two urgent court applications.

The result was that Hendrik Matthews, a Roodepoort breeder who alleges the birds were intended for him to cover outstanding debt, had the parrots loaded on December 24 to be taken to a private quarantine station in Umhlanga.

On that day the quarantine station at Kempton Park closed until February 1 for cleaning and upgrading.

According to Michael Saltz, Matthews' lawyer, the birds were healthy when they were loaded at O R Tambo airport for the one hour flight on 1time to Durban. All the requirements for the transport of living cargo were met.

At King Shaka airport in Durban there was no movement to be seen in the crates when they were unloaded.

When the crates were taken to Express Air Services' store and opened, only 10 of the birds were still alive, and an hour later only one had survived, said Boyes.

    Small dog survived

According to Anya Potgieter, spokesperson for 1time, the airline then decided it wouldn't transport more than four living animals per crate any longer, and exotic animals will only be transported if arrangements are made ahead of time.

According to The Witness she ruled out that the birds might have died from carbon dioxide inhalation, as the birds were travelling in a hold with an oxygen supply.

The airline denies that something could have happened on the plane to cause the tragedy.

A small dog travelling in the same cargo hold was perfectly healthy upon arrival.

Saltz, however, said parrots from the same group in two crates which were transported by another airline were healthy.

According to him there are indications that a lack of oxygen or dangerous gases could have caused the deaths of the birds.

371 dead birds fell from the sky over Los Angeles, California, and hit the pavement at Sunset and Cahuenga
    Jan 13, 2011
    .

In the great shadow of the CNN building laid scattered hundreds of pigeons, most of them dead. This is another incident of dead birds falling from the sky, as has been seen in California, Arkansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Sweden, Italy, and other places around the world.

If today's dead bird incident had been a singular event, we could have blamed Los Angeles smog. 371 birds could no longer take the poor air quality and decided to choke and fall.

    Dead birds in Alabama
    Thursday, Jan. 13

More birds are dead as 300 grackles fell out of the sky near Huntsville, Ala., and slammed into a rash of objects Thursday, Jan. 13.
According witnesses, drivers watched as birds fell dead and flew into trees, poles and cars.
The incidents continue to baffle scientists while theories such as secret government testing, unreported earthquake activity, magnetic field shifts and the Great Tribulation are being mulled.
Each theory has its merits, officials say.

Since the 1970s, the U.S. Geological Survey's National Wildlife Health Center in Wisconsin has tracked mass deaths among birds, fish and other critters, said wildlife disease specialist LeAnn White.
At times the sky and the streams just turn deadly. Sometimes it's disease, sometimes pollution. Other times it's just a mystery.
In the past eight months, the USGS has logged 95 mass wildlife die-offs in North America and that's probably a dramatic undercount, Dr White said.
The list includes 900 some turkey vultures that seemed to drown and starve in the Florida Keys, 4,300 ducks killed by parasites in Minnesota, 1,500 salamanders done in by a virus in Idaho, 2,000 bats that died of rabies in Texas, and the still mysterious death of 2,750 sea birds in California.
On average, 163 such events are reported to the federal government each year, according to USGS records.
And there have been much larger die-offs than the 3,000 blackbirds in Arkansas. Twice in the summer of 1996, more than 100,000 ducks died of botulism in Canada.

5000 Dead Birds? - Page 5 Empty Oil and Gas Collection: Hydraulic Fracturing, Toxic Chemicals and the Surge of Earthquake Activity in Arkansas Fracking the life out of Arkansas and beyond

Post  AscendingStarseed Sun Jan 16, 2011 2:28 am

    By Rady Ananda

    Global Research, January 6, 2011

The last four months of 2010, nearly 500 earthquakes rattled Guy, Arkansas. [1] The entire state experienced 38 quakes in 2009. [2] The spike in quake frequency precedes and coincides with the 100,000 dead fish on a 20-mile stretch of the Arkansas River that included Roseville Township on December 30. The next night, 5,000 red-winged blackbirds and starlings dropped dead out of the sky in Beebe. [3] Hydraulic fracturing is the most likely culprit for all three events, as it causes earthquakes with a resultant release of toxins into the environment. [4]

A close look at Arkansas’ history of earthquakes and drilling reveals a shocking surge in quake frequency following advanced drilling. The number of quakes in 2010 nearly equals all of Arkansas’ quakes for the entire 20th century. The oil and gas industry denies any correlation, but the advent of hydrofracking followed by earthquakes is a story repeated across the nation. It isn’t going to stop any time soon, either. Fracking has gone global.

Hydraulic fracturing (fracking) pumps water and chemicals into the ground at a pressurized rate exceeding what the bedrock can withstand, resulting in a microquake that produces rock fractures. Though initiated in 1947, technological advances now allow horizontal fracturing, vastly increasing oil and gas collection. [5] In 1996, shale-gas production in the U.S. accounted for 2 percent of all domestic natural gas production, reports Christopher Bateman in Vanity Fair. “Some industry analysts predict shale gas will represent a full half of total domestic gas production within 10 years.” [6] In 2000, U.S. gas reserve estimates stood at 177 trillion cubic feet, but ramped up to 245 tcf in 2008. These new technologies prompt experts to increase global gas reserve estimates ninefold. [7]

The grid below shows a section of the Arkansas River, with Roseville Township at bottom, where the first reports of the fish kill originated. The green lines surrounding and crossing the river indicate gas pipes, ranging from 8-20” in diameter. Any number of leaks in the pipes can explain the fish kill. Gas wells are shown by yellow ‘suns’ (see red arrows) and range from 1,500 to 6,500 feet deep. (Disposal wells, where drilling waste products are injected at high pressures, go as deep as 12,000 feet.) The red numbers next to the ‘suns’ give the number of gas wells in that spot, numbering close to 50 in this small area.
