Several powerful earthquakes strike off the shore of Canada

    PORT HARDY, BRITISH COLUMBIA

Several powerful earthquakes have been reported near Vancouver Island, Canada, including a magnitude 6.8.

The U.S. Geological Survey says several powerful quakes were reported Sunday evening. The of the depth the largest is about 6 miles (10 kilometers) and it struck about 149 miles (239 kilometers) west of Tofino, Canada.

Geophysicist Amy Vaughan says the three larger quakes ranged from magnitude 6.5 to 6.8 and that there were possibly some smaller ones as well as some aftershocks. Vaughan says the quakes were lightly felt onshore and that as of now no injuries were reported.

The National Tsunami Warning Center tweeted that a tsunami is “Not expected.”

2/07/2019 -- Volcano East of Los Angeles hit by sudden Earthquake Swarm -- Pisgah Crater Volcano

The cluster of seismic activity developed at coordinates: 34.705 N 116.285 W , reaching a peak magnitude of up to M4.1 along with dozens of smaller events still taking place currently.

This volcano was reported to be experiencing "steam plumes" as far back as 2011 which were originally dismissed by professionals at the California Volcano Observatory as thunderstorms coming from the desert floor.

Recent seismic activity is now calling the original "thunderstorm theory" into question, as these once ancient volcanoes now begin to show new seismic activity.

Will this lead to an eruption? Likely not. These types of seismic swarms occur at weak points in the plate as stresses pass through regions across the exterior edge of the North American Craton. Mother nature has created a "weak point" through eons of punching through the plate via magma related forces coming up from below the magma chamber at Pisgah crater (as well as other volcanoes up the West Coast of the United States - including Mount Saint Helens,WA and Mammoth Mountain, CA).

MANILA, Philippines – Five people were killed when at least two buildings collapsed as a magnitude 6.1 earthquake rocked parts of Luzon on Monday, April 22. Three bodies have been pulled out of a four-story building in the town of Porac, while a woman and her grandchild were crushed to death in the town of Lubao, Pampanga Governor Lilia Pineda told ABS-CBN.

"We believe there are still people trapped in the four-story building," Pineda said, adding 20 people have so far been rescued and taken to hospital as night fell.

"It's difficult because there is no power, so we're still trying to get hold of a generator to be able to rescue the people inside," she added.

The earthquake that rumbled across the northern Philippines caused skyscrapers to sway, as they are designed to do, in Manila.

It also caused serious damage to the capital's secondary Clark Airport, which is located on the site of the former US military installation that lies about an hour's drive north of the capital.

    Surge in Yellowstone geyser activity…
The Steamboat Geyser in Yellowstone National Park is approaching a record number of eruptions The Steamboat Geyser at Yellowstone National Park is no Old Faithful. The world's tallest active geyser -- whose major eruptions shoot water more than 300 feet into the air -- is known to be unpredictable. But if there was ever a year to witness Steamboat's spectacular surge of water, this might be it. We're just over halfway through 2019 and the Steamboat Geyser has already erupted 25 times, according to the US Geological Survey. That puts it on track to surpass last year's record of 32 eruptions -- the largest number ever recorded in a year. The record before that was 29 eruptions in 1964. The Steamboat Geyser erupted seven times just last month alone, the USGS said. June's outbursts, which occurred on the 1st, 7th, 12th, 15th, 19th, 23rd, and 28th, also smashed the record for the shortest interval between eruptions -- just over three days.

I spotted this warning below from another site for 2020 and just want to mention that we were in the 7. San Francisco earthquake in 1989. This was when parts of the San Francisco Bay Bridge collapsed and the freeway near where I used to work collapsed crushing those underneath. Being prepared is important. Power went out, signal lights went out, communications was a mess. The floor to ceiling book cases crashed down in my office sending plants and books all over. We were in the conference room on the 3rd level next to the library when the quake hit. I thought the ceiling was going to collapse. Had PTS for months afterwards due to the aftershocks. Large quakes are dangerous and scary. Aftershocks are scary. Not having essential supplies is scary. Being prepared with supplies on hand gives peace of mind in the midst of a disaster. Be smart, stock up. Be prepared.

7.0 magnitude earthquake hits Indonesia, tsunami warning issued
    https://www.rt.com/news/463594-tsunami-warning-indonesia-earthquake/

Indonesia’s geophysics agency has issued a tsunami warning, after a magnitude 7.1 earthquake struck in the Moloccan Sea to the country’s east. The figure was later downgraded to 7.0

The quake struck shortly after 10 PM local time on Sunday, at a depth of 36km, the Indonesian Agency for Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics reported. The earthquake’s epicenter lies 180km southeast of Manado, a city with a population of 450,000, and 129km west of Ternate, home to 200,000.

    8:17 AM - Jul 7, 2019

The United States Geological Survey put the quake’s magnitude at 6.9, and its depth at 25km. The earthquake was followed by several lesser-magnitude aftershocks.

There have been no reports of damages or victims.

Indonesia is prone to earthquakes, volcanic eruptions and tsunamis, owing to its position on the edge of the Pacific Ring of Fire. A 5.2 magnitude quake shook the seabed to the country’s southeast on Friday night,  while several more minor quakes hit the country earlier that day. Most earthquakes deal little damage, but a devastating tremor that hit Palu on the island of Sulawesi last September killed more than 4,000 people.

A massive 6.2 magnitude earthquake has hit the resort region of Bali, with witnesses reporting the 'walls of their houses were shaking'. Many were woken up by the strong shaking and rattling shortly after 8am local time on Tuesday morning.

While it was initially recorded as a 6.2 magnitude, EMSC later downgraded it to a 5.7 magnitude earthquake.

Tourists were evacuated from their hotels in Seminyak on the southern end of Bali, after the underwater earthquake hit just south of the Indonesian island. The earthquake is estimated to have been 100km below ground, but there is no tsunami warning currently in place.

According to European earthquake monitoring agency EMSC, the epicentre was recorded at 102km southwest of Denpasar.

An estimated eight million people felt the quake, the EMSC said.

Ho Hum... FWIW, This Year Has So Far Produced 84ea 6+ Earthquakes.... Thats 3X 'normal', BTW

The Number Of Global Earthquakes Is 3 Times Above Normal

Authored by Michael Snyder via The Economic Collapse blog,

Within the last 48 hours we have seen large earthquakes going off like firecrackers all along the Ring of Fire. As you will see below, a magnitude 6.1 quake just hit Japan, a magnitude 6.6 quake just hit Australia and a magnitude 7.3 earthquake just hit Indonesia. And of course all of this comes just about a week after southern California was hit by the two largest earthquakes that it has experienced in more than two decades.

So is all of this shaking unusual? Just a few moments ago, I pulled up the most recent data from Earthquake Track, and what I discovered is more than just a little bit alarming. Looking at the entire globe, we have averaged 193 earthquakes of magnitude 1.5 or greater per day so far in 2019. That is very high, but it pales in comparison to what we have witnessed over the last week. Within the last seven days, our planet has experienced an average of more than 677 earthquakes of magnitude 1.5 or greater per day. That means that the number of global earthquakes right now is more than 3 times above normal.

And the number of very large earthquakes is at a frighteningly high level as well. According to the USGS, there have been 121 earthquakes of at least magnitude 4.5 around the world within the last seven days, and that includes the magnitude 6.1 earthquake that just hit Japan.

Incredibly, that quake in Japan brought the number of global earthquakes of magnitude 6.0 or greater that we have seen so far this year up to a grand total of 84. The following comes from the Big Wobble…

Last nights quake brings the total of major quakes (mag 6+) to 84, incredibly all but 7 of them striking the Pacific Ring Of Fire.

The last 38 major quakes this year, going back to the 3rd of May have occurred along the Pacific Ring Of Fire.

But on Sunday we had to add two more to that total.

The first actually tied the record for the largest earthquake that western Australia has ever seen…

The equal-largest earthquake recorded in Australia has hit off the Kimberley coast, shaking items off shelves and stunning local residents who had never felt a tremor before.

The 6.6 magnitude undersea quake struck at 3.39pm AEST on Sunday between Port Hedland and Broome, GeoScience Australia reported.

The second was even larger. When a magnitude 7.3 earthquake hit Indonesia on Sunday, it sparked tsunami fears and made headlines all over the globe…

A terrifying 7.3-magnitude earthquake has sparked panic after it rocked the remote Maluku islands in eastern Indonesia today.

Scared residents were seen fleeing through the streets and heading for high ground, though no tsunami warning was issued after the land-based quake struck.

None of this is “normal”. As I keep warning my readers, we have entered a time of tremendous global instability, and the U.S. is certainly not going to be exempt.

In fact, we just witnessed a magnitude 4.0 earthquake in Montana. The following comes from Ricky Scaparo…

A 6.3 magnitude earthquake has hit off Fukushima in Japan.

It was also felt in the capital Tokyo, some 250km away.

The epicentre of the earthquake, which struck at 7.23pm local time, was off the coast of Fukushima prefecture and measured at a depth of 50km, the Japan Meteorological Agency said.

There were no were immediate reports of damage, and no tsunami alert was issued.

Public broadcaster NHK TV reported that utility companies were checking on the nuclear reactors in the area.

6.4 quake strikes Puerto Rico amid heavy seismic activity
    https://tracking.feedpress.it/link/20202/13128344

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) — A 6.4-magnitude earthquake struck Puerto Rico before dawn on Tuesday, and was followed three hours later by an aftershock measuring 6.0. They are the largest in a series of quakes that have struck the U.S. territory in recent days and caused heavy damage in some areas.

Eight people were injured in the city of Ponce, near the epicenter of the quake, Mayor Mayita Meléndez told WAPA television.

Puerto Rico’s power authority said on Twitter that one of the country’s main power plants, which sits near the epicenter, had been damaged, but officials expect to restore power to the island later Tuesday.

The U.S. Geological Survey said the quake hit at 4:24 a.m. just south of the island at a shallow depth of 10 kilometers. It initially gave the magnitude as 6.6 but later adjusted it. At 7:18 a.m. the magnitude-6.0 aftershock hit the same area. People reported strong shaking and staff at a local radio station said live on air that they were leaving their building

A tsunami alert was issued for Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands after the initial quake, but was later canceled.

Albert Rodríguez, who is from the southwest town of Guánica, said the tsunami sirens went off before officials canceled the alert. He said there is widespread damage in his neighborhood.

“The road is cracked in the middle and it lifted up,” he said.

The mayor of Guayanilla, Nelson Torres, told NotiUno radio station that the church in the public plaza of his town collapsed.

Víctor Huérfano, director of Puerto Rico’s Seismic Network, told The Associated Press that it is hard to obtain reports of damage or injuries because communications are down for much of the island. He said officials in Ponce told him there was widespread damage.

“We expect that this will be the largest quake for now,” he said. “The aftershocks will continue for some time.”

Puerto Rico’s governor, Wanda Vasquez, told station Radioisla just before 6 a.m. that there had been no immediate reports of deaths. She ordered government offices closed for the day and urged citizens to remain calm and not check damage to their homes until daylight.

A 5.8-magnitude quake that struck early Monday morning collapsed five homes in the southwest coastal town of Guánica and heavily damaged dozens of others. It also caused small landslides and power outages. The quake was followed by a string of smaller temblors.

The shake collapsed a coastal rock formation that had formed a sort of rounded window, Punta Ventana, that was a popular tourist draw in the southwest town of Guayanilla.

Residents in the south of the island have been terrified to go into their homes for fear that another quake will bring buildings down.

The flurry of quakes in Puerto Rico’s southern region began the night of Dec. 28. Huérfano told the AP that shallow quakes were occurring along three faults in Puerto Rico’s southwest region: Lajas Valley, Montalva Point and the Guayanilla Canyon.

He said the quakes overall come as the North American plate and the Caribbean plate squeeze Puerto Rico.

One of the largest and most damaging earthquakes to hit Puerto Rico occurred in October 1918, when a magnitude 7.3 quake struck near the island’s northwest coast, unleashing a tsunami and killing 116 people.
