But I see in another of his videos that he has brought religion into the picture, which is a red flag.  Eric Dubay has a similar red flag.

However, there are some good points in flat earth theory that need addressing, rather than ridiculing.  It may be that there are some improvements in accepted theory that would result.

How do they explain water going down the plug hole?
I have lived in the Northern hemisphere, the Southern hemisphere and on the equator.
It spins clockwise in the Northern hemisphere, anti clockwise in the Southern hemisphere and straight down without spinning at all on the equator pig

I have just discovered radio host Mike Williams of the YouTube channel The Sage of Quay Radio Hour and The Sage of Quay blog.  He is a musician, singer, songwriter and hypnotherapist, according to links I've read or listened to.

I was impressed with his interview of someone by the name of Anita Whitney of a website called AntiCorruption Society.

He seems very intelligent and grounded.

Anyway, I see he has participated in a recent round-table discussion about flat earth:

I recently had the pleasure of joining Sofia Smallstorm, David Weiss and Jeran Campanella for a round-table discussion about the Flat Earth.

In this conversation we discuss some of the more challenging questions regarding the Flat Earth theory as we share our thoughts and ideas with each other.

Thanks for the post Seashore. I've listened to a few folks talking about this including Andrew Basiago and I just can't wrap my brain around the earth being flat.

    probably because it isnt :)

is this still a thing? I looked into this ages ago, seemed a lot of folk were not taking the sheer size of the earth into perspective, even Everest is but a pimple.

I have lived in the northern hemisphere and the southern hemisphere and the moon is upside down in the southern hemisphere (from my native northern perspective). QED the earth is round.

Imagine standing on an earth sized snooker ball. perfectly round. Because the slope away from your viewpoint is always the same, the horizon, the edge of your view, will always be the same distance away, in every direction you look.. therefore the horizon will appear perfectly level, even on a perfect sphere.

science (man-made) is a poor tool for describing the universe (not man-made) = true, therefore the earth is flat! .. er.. what?
nasa lie, make up stories, photoshop and computer edit images = true, therefore the earth is flat! .. er...

i havent seen the videos, but most of the 'issues' the flat earthers had were either real issues with man made models of the universe (science, maths), or the poor application of existing models.

I still cant prove (100%) to myself that the earth is not the centre of the universe, and all revolves around us.. i dont think it does, but I am not as certain of this fact as I am of the fact that the earth is round.

    I can't either.

But what I would like to see is polite discussion about it.  I think that there are rational questions being asked by people who take the subject matter of people such as Eric Dubay seriously.  And the questions need good, scientific answers from the mainstream.

We know that we're being lied to with impunity about other areas in science and technology.

I suspect that there are embedded in the flat earth subject matter pointers that will turn out to be valid, and eventually science books will be modified to incorporate those pointers.

What those pointers are, specifically, I have no idea!

    What does Andrew Basiago think?

What I find interesting is that if you look at chemtrails they don't follow the curve of the Earth. They should be curved not straight scratch

According to what I read, there is one legitimate photo of the spherical earth that is in existence.  As far as I'm concerned, that's all it takes to prove it:  one.

So I agree that all the energy taken up beating up on NASA for their perceived transgressions is for naught if there is one good photo.

However, I really wish we could get some additional, non-doctored photos of the spherical earth taken at this point in time with the technology we now have available to us.

It would be better than doing experiments trying to prove it indirectly.

No experiments needed. I proved the earth was round with my statement on the moon. It is upside down in the southern hemisphere. compared to the northern hemisphere. Therefore the earth is round. Fact.

I believe I found 2 other 'proofs' of a round earth that are easy to digest.

The earth is not flat. fact.

certainly would be nice to see a picture of the earth, and better images of the moon, and t'other side...

The only thing of interest now is why Flat Earth is still in the public domain? The earth is clearly not flat. Flat-earthers cannot be taken seriously about the shape of the earth, they might have some interesting observations to make, but they are deluded.

i have a stack of you-tube videos on my hard drive from when i looked into this with a broadband connection. I have just done a search on one title in you tube and i think this is the one that included a proof of a round earth.

This guy's other videos are worth watching, though almost a double speed.. Wink

I think the reason is that people don't really believe it's flat, necessarily, they just know that there are some good challenges to accepted science.  And they want questions answered rather than swept aside with ridicule.

Remember that you intuitively thought the earth is not spinning?

    What happened to that?

because claiming the earth is flat is ridiculous. Hence the ridicule. Their other questions for science and NASA are better served with other vehicles and platforms. Their other questions have validity, i have a fair few myself... but once you introduce flat earth that is a flat end. a flat tyre. perhaps that is what 'they' want? to lump interesting and challenging ideas with something so easily ridiculed and proved incorrect as flat earth. ?

    Seashore wrote:

I still carry the notion, i clarified my post above with a disclaimer I couldnt yet prove to myself that the earth is not spinning... but i cant prove we are not all plugged into the matrix exactly like the film either, and I am open to that possibility, even as a metaphor.

From a scientific point of view i understand enough to know that speed is only an issue when you stop suddenly.. so yes, relative to the centre of the earth we are moving at 1000 mph approx, and if the earth stops spinning thats bad news for folk. unless we fit inertial dampeners off a bigger star trek cruiser.

As for everyday effects of of being on a spinning ball, its only about 0.3 ms2, so negligible compared to gravity effects.. therefore I can believe the maths, that the earth is spinning, and that is my current world view, that we are on an elliptical path, following the sun through the galaxy. we spin like all bodies.. (except the moon..? thats an interesting one).

i have had the queerest notion that we are not spinning for most of my life.. still with me Wink

    Yes, it is.

Eric Dubay is probably motivated by trying to justify himself to his fundamentalist Christian family who think of him, evidently, as a black sheep.

And we know from looking at other planets that they are round.

But there are serious people who take the questions posed by the movement seriously.  That makes me wonder.

I suppose they could just be misguided.

    Science is complicated.

You know, if someone were so inclined (I'm not), he or she could ridicule you for having such a "ridiculous" notion.

Root word of "ridiculous" is ridicule.

I have a big problem with ridicule in public discourse.

I think it is more than counter-productive.

All it does is make people dig in their heels and keep on keeping on fighting with each other.

    What's the point?

I quite agree that it is difficult to have 'alternate views' in this day and age, especially against scientific dogma.

Back to this case in point.. The trouble is that is it easy to prove that the earth isnt flat. Yet still they persist in their flat earth cult. I have tried to show a few folk how the earth is round and they wont have it, it is fixed dogma. This is pretty ridiculous, its ok to have an alternate view, make a case and explain it. I looked into flat earth with an open mind, but it is easily dismissed. If the flat-earthers stopped here, admitted their lack of awareness and simple maths, then no problem... but they dont.. even against proof they are wrong.. so what word do you use?

It isnt so simple to prove the earth spins, i do know of the Foucault pendulum experiments but I have doubt. It is reasonable doubt, and I have stated that I dont believe the earth is stationary, but spins... is this the same as the flat-earth claims? I wouldnt have thought so.

I have no more energy for flat-earth, I have dismissed the notion in my mind now.
