    SYRIA NOW Empty SYRIA NOW

Post  burgundia Sun Mar 20, 2011 1:46 pm

Thousands of Syrians demanded an end to 48 years of emergency law on Sunday, a third consecutive day of protests emerging as the biggest challenge to Syria’s rulers since unrest swept the Arab world this year.

Protesters demanding freedoms and an end to corruption set fire to the headquarters of the ruling Baath Party in the Syrian southern city of Deraa on Sunday, residents said.

SYRIA NOW Empty U.S. admits funding Syrian opposition

Post  burgundia Tue Apr 19, 2011 3:02 pm

    http://www.cbc.ca/news/world/story/2011/04/18/syria-united-states-backing-wikileaks.html

The U.S. State Department acknowledged Monday it has been funding opponents of Syrian President Bashar Assad, following the release of secret diplomatic cables obtained by WikiLeaks that document the funding.

The files show that up to $6.3 million US was funnelled to the Movement for Justice and Development, a London-based dissident organization that operates the Barada TV satellite channel, which broadcasts anti-government news into Syria. Another $6 million went to support a variety of initiatives, including training for journalists and activists, between 2006 and 2010.

Asked point-blank by reporters whether the United States is funding Syrian opposition groups, State Department spokesman Mark Toner told a news conference Monday, "We are — we're working with a variety of civil society actors in Syria with the goal here of strengthening freedom of expression."

Tread lightly on Syria, Russia warns UN Security Council

With the situation in Libya still undecided, a divided UN Security Council meeting on Wednesday failed to produce a statement condemning anti-government violence in Syria, while Moscow advises members to avoid any hasty actions.

The emergency meeting came in response to the domestic crisis in Syria, where anti-government protesters have been clashing with security personnel.

France, Britain, Germany and Portugal circulated a draft statement on Monday calling for the 15-member council to condemn the violence.

“The demonstrators do not have tanks. They do not arrest people arbitrarily. They do not curtail journalists in their reporting,” commented Peter Wittig, German Ambassador to the United Nations. “The continued violence against peaceful protesters is completely unacceptable; it has to stop immediately. All announcements of reforms are undermined by the ongoing violence."

The Syrian side, however, was quick to defend the actions of its police and military forces, saying that “dozens and dozens” of security officers have been killed in the clashes.

"We believe some of the statements heard today against Syria can only be considered an encouragement of extremism and terrorism,” responded Bashar Ja'afari, Syrian Ambassador to the United Nations. “The price will be paid by innocent people in Syria and the world.”

Ja'afari revealed that some armed groups in Syria have become “unacceptably violent” during the demonstrations and started shooting, which led to the death of security officers.

He said Syrian President Bashar Assad ordered security forces not to open fire in response to the protesters’ actions, saying that "dozens and dozens of security officers" were shot and killed.

Ja'afari also questioned the "unprecedented enthusiasm" on the part of some council members for the statement, compared with a "lack of such enthusiasm" for attempting to end the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Meanwhile, Russia weighed in on the debate, warning the council that any outside interference in Syria’s domestic conflict could pose a risk to regional security.

I also read the other day that there's a threat that Iran will go to Syria's aid if the West goes in, which will probably cause an all out war in the area, with Israel getting involved as well. Neutral Can't find it now though.

Considering the recent CIA sponsored revolution in Egypt , Lybia and other places . I am in favor of Assad trying to stay in power at any cost . If Assad fails , Syria's anti Zionist stance will be no more . It is important that the current status quo remains to give a chance to the enemies of Israel to destroy this apartheid state . I am not jumping on the bandwagon of the Humanitarians hypocrites that bomb places with depleted uranium to liberate them or to bring the fake western democracy to people that do not want it .

Western media lie about Syria - eyewitness reports
    Published: 29 April, 2011, 15:50
    Edited: 29 April, 2011, 23:08

    SNIP
RT: The media reports mass anti-government rallies.

AK: There’s a powerful misinformation swell going on. On April 1, the media reported a large anti-governmental rally in Damascus. I was in Damascus on that day. This rally never happened – I didn’t see it, and neither did the locals.

On April 16, Reuters news agency wrote that 50,000 opponents of the regime took to the streets of Damascus, and that they had been dispersed with tear gas and batons. Damascus’ residents realize that such a rally could not take place in the city unnoticed. How many policemen would it take to disperse it? And how come nobody saw it except Reuters? Five hundred people in the streets of Damascus are a large crowd. Reuters broadcast their material around the world, including Russia. One source lies, and then this lie is like a snowball rolling downhill creating a fake reality, and picking up rumor and speculation.

People in Syria watch the footage. What do they see? A picture allegedly from Yemen. A picture allegedly from Egypt. A picture allegedly from Syria. But the pictures all show people dressed in the same fashion. People in Syria can tell their fellow countrymen from their neighbors – both by their faces and their clothes.

There are videos on the internet showing how amateur footage of the so-called riots is made. There's a parked car and nothing’s going on around. And there's a man standing next to it throwing rocks. And people around are taking pictures.

There are a lot of staged videos. A Lebanese can tell the difference between footage taken in Lebanon and that taken in Damascus at a glance. And they show footage from Tripoli, or footage taken several years ago in Iraq, and say it is unrest in Syria.

Another snip from the same article. Sickening stuff going on there is this is to be believed.

    SNIP-
    RT: Who shoots policemen?

AK: They talk a lot about it in Syria. Rumor has it that trained commandos came across the border from Iraq. People in Syria are well-aware that after the US occupied Iraq, they formed special squads there. They were killing people, stirring up conflicts between the Shiite and Sunni communities, and between Muslims and Christians; they were blowing up streets, markets, mosques and churches. Those terrorist attacks targeted civilians rather than the occupying regime.

Not long ago, they caught three such commandos in the outskirts of Damascus, when they were randomly shooting at people. They turned out to be Iraqis.

Syrian TV showed footage of somebody shooting at policemen and passers-by from bushes and rooftops. They occasionally get caught, and they either turn out to be Iraqis, or they admit that they were paid for it. Such militants were detained in Deraa and Latakia. They had US-made weapons.

The Lebanese security service intercepted several cars carrying weapons as they were coming into Lebanon. One such car was stopped coming from Iraq. There were American weapons in those cars too. Also there are reports about detained people who had large sums of money with them – with US dollars. These people carried expensive satellite phones that cannot be tapped by the Syrian security service.

In Syria, it is no longer a secret to anyone that the Americans have an unhindered opportunity to recruit and train the commandos in Iraq, and then send them wherever they want.

Hilary Clinton has already stated that if Syria cuts its relations with Iran and withdraws its support for Hamas and Hezbollah, the demonstrations would stop the next day. They don't even bother to keep secret the hand instilling riots in Syria.

There’s plenty of evidence of foreign interference.

Hope it is ok to post this ? in my email box today
"A desperate video plea has just come in from an Avaaz member in Syria who has risked his life to call on us for help.

The Syrian regime is laying siege to whole cities, and is willing to annihilate them to crush the peaceful democracy movement. Security forces have cut off all food, water and medicine to these towns, shot hundreds of citizens, and detained and tortured thousands -- in many cases ripping out their fingernails before releasing them, as a warning to other protesters.

Despite this unimaginable terror, the Syrian people refuse to be silenced, and are committed to a non-violent path out of this nightmare. But while they have no shortage of bravery, they are short of funds. They are asking for financial and other support -- for needs ranging from urgent medical help to ads and public messages urging soldiers to refuse to shoot protestors.

The heart-rending siege of the cities of Dera’a and Banias, the mass arrest and torture of more than 5,000 peaceful demonstrators, the total ban on foreign reporting (including the disappearance of Al Jazeera journalist Dorothy Parvaz), and the staggering death toll countrywide are fueling citizens' demands for real, democratic reform. Experts say the regime has reached the point of no return, and that the best hope for peace is to get trusted figures close to the regime to break off and demand an end to the violence.

A raft of resignations and defections show emerging cracks in the regime, which activists can help widen, particularly as the violence intensifies and international pressure increases.

Backed by thousands of Avaaz members, citizen journalists have bravely brought the images of the protests to the world's media. Reuters, CNN, BBC, Associated Press and Al Jazeera have all been using their footage and photographs -- often the only such material available to the international press amidst the government's attempted blackout. Now, as the violence worsens, peaceful activists are calling on the Avaaz community to help escalate their advocacy and organizing efforts.

We can help by funding ad campaigns and public messages urging soldiers to stop the violence, travel costs for high-level advocacy, safer communications equipment, phone bills, expert advisers on legal reforms and other assistance, including urgent medical and legal contingencies. If enough of us join together, we can sustain courageous activists’ crucial push for peace and reform, and maintain the momentum of people power across the region

Avaaz members have played a key role in supporting people-powered movements in the Middle East. Several Avaaz contacts have disappeared or been wounded during the horrific wave of repression. But they are determined to keep pressing for human rights and freedom, even in the face of terrible violence -- let's muster all the strength of our community to support their struggle and their courage.

    In solidarity,

Stephanie, David, Mohammad, Rewan, Brianna, Andrew, Alice, Ricken, Sam and the rest of the Avaaz team"

    Thanks Silver ,

You are welcome . You just presented a different view of the situation and that's great ! A forum is exactly for that purpose . I know that Assad is not a perfect gentleman as testified by thousands of political opponents in jail . However , there is not much difference between him and the crooks in Washington as testified by the latest trick on the death of Osama . Then there is another problem . The suspicion that all of those recent trouble in Syria are manufactured to cause a color revolution , I would rather have Assad ,a known opponent of the Apartheid state , then and unknown sponsored by the CIA and friends of Israel .

How about back to February month!? Also do you remember persona management software? The sample can be found on facebook.

    Shocked

    SYRIA NOW 1-2819

    The destabilization of Syria
Revolutions staged for the media have their logo.
Here, that of "The Syrian Revolution 2011" on Facebook. .

In early February, when the country was unaware of any event, a page titled The Syrian Revolution 2011 was created on Facebook. She called for a " Day of Wrath "on Friday 4; call relayed by Al-Jazeera, but met with no echo anywhere. Al-Jazeera deplored the lack of reaction and stigma Syria, the "kingdom of silence" (sic).
The name The Syrian Revolution 2011 is puzzling: made in English, it is characteristic of advertising slogans. But what a genuine revolutionary would think that if he fails to realize his ideal in 2011, he returns to bed at home?
More strange, the day of its creation, this Facebook page has registered more than 80,000 friends. Such enthusiasm in a few hours, followed by nothing at all, evokes a manipulation carried out with software to create accounts. Especially since the Syrians have a moderate use of the Internet and have access to ADSL since January 1.

Syrian military sources have told the BBC the army plans to move on the nearly town of Maarat al-Numan.

It says it is pursuing armed men who escaped the weekend offensive. State media said there was heavy fighting.

quote from the above for a laugh " As it has stepped up its response, Assad's regime has seemed little affected by mounting international concern over the violence.

White House spokesman Jay Carney said the U.S. calls on the Syrian government "to cease and desist from the use of violence against peaceful protesters" and to "follow through on its promises and take action toward the kind of concrete reform that they've promised."

which mounting concerns ? I bet the concerns are only of the control freaks in Washington DC and the stooges in the EU plus the Apartheid state .
and what about reforms ? So Syria can become another stooge state that take orders from the Zionists in Washington ?

Cease and desist from using violence against dancers in the US ?
    http://www.infowars.com/hitler-finds-out-about-kokesh-dance-party/

Why don't the US Army cowards take on China ? Is China too big for you ? Is Lybia small enough for you ?
    http://www.theaustralian.com.au/news/world/beijing-battling-protest-fires-on-all-fronts/story-e6frg6so-1226075255343

I would love to see the Syrian Government to tell the USA to F@@@@ OFF . What then ? Invade Syria ? What if your pet frog ( the apartheid state ) gets reduced to a parking lot ? I would be jumping with joy in the street and I suspect billions of other humans too .

    comment under article:

Dear Reader, It is to be hoped that Bashar Assad will do mankind a considerable service here by personally targeting a creature that must rank as the most reprehensible on this planet - Netanyahu the Vile. In this foul abomination, Satan could not have asked for a better ambassador for his mission. Indeed, no sooner had the slavering, blood lusting American Congress given this gross beast a standing ovation, when he went out and butchered another 30 unarmed Palestinian teenagers - doubtless a "thank you" gesture for the singular honour awarded to him by the American Congress. Then, on top of this, the Clinton creature immediately raised up on her hind legs and started spouting on about moral values! Truly Dear Reader, Evil is at large and abroad.

    article:

Israel has allegedly sent a message to Syrian President Bashar Assad in recent days, warning him that if he starts a war with the Jewish state in order to divert attention from domestic problems, Israel will target him personally.
According to a report by Kuwaiti newspaper Al-Jarida, the personal warning was sent through Turkey and follows reports of unusual troop movements in Syria, including the relocation of ballistic missiles able to reach Israel.
Israeli experts speculate Assad could go on the offensive to divert international attention from internal unrest.

Another theory is that an attack could be staged by Assad's long-time allies Hezbollah from Lebanon.
In response Israel has deployed new missile defense systems near its border with Lebanon. It follows reports that Hezbollah could be moving its weaponry, stationed in volatile Syria, back to Lebanon.
Some fear that Syrian turmoil may destabilize the whole of the region.

Things are quiet on the Israel-Lebanon border. But many suspect it is a lull before the storm. Everything hinging on what happens in neighboring Syria and what Hezbollah decides to do with its stockpiles there.

“Any opposition group that might take over in Syria will definitely consider Hezbollah as an enemy, as a threat. So for Hezbollah the most logical thing to do is to transfer the weapons they put in Syria into Lebanon,” Eyal Zisser, Professor at Tel Aviv University believes.

For years Hezbollah found an ally in Syrian President Bashar Assad. And so it is no surprise they want him to stay in power. But if he goes – and those who are pressurizing him to do so – would do well to remember this: the regional impact could be terrifying.

“Syria, unlike Libya, is part of an alliance and that alliance is very wide. It begins in Iran, some elements in Iraq’s government are part of it, the Syrian regime, Hezbollah in Lebanon, Hamas in Gaza,” explains Walid Phares from the Washington DC-based National Defense University.

Western intelligence reports suggest Hezbollah has already started moving some of its advanced weaponry from its warehouses in Syria to its forces in Lebanon for fear that Assad will be toppled. But getting rid of him is one thing. Dealing with the consequences is quite another.

“The situation in Syria is very complex, very volatile, very dangerous. The collapse of the Syrian government could engender great regional instability,” says Eric Margolis, contributor for the Huffington Post.

That could include a new war between Lebanon and Israel. Already the weapons Hezbollah has in its possession are able to strike almost any corner of the Jewish state. The new stockpiles in Lebanon would only aggravate an already tense situation.

"As far as we know, Hezbollah has now accumulated around 45,000 missiles of various ranges. There is one of them with a range which goes beyond 350 kilometers, which, according to them at least, can reach all of Israel till Eilat in the south of the country," says Dr. Yoram Kahati from the International Institute for Counter-Terrorism.

There is a museum in Israel which was set up about a decade ago to showcase weapons, ammunition and items captured from Israel's enemies. Some of the missiles shown there originated in Syria, found their way to Lebanon and were fired by Hezbollah at Israel back in 2006, Israel says.

On the ground, an almost ominous threat. The Lebanese, Palestinian and Hezbollah flags flying on the Israeli border. The message is clear. Here, no country is immune to what happens to its neighbor, and it will not take much to turn the region’s precarious peace into all out war.

August 14, 2011 – SYRIA - Syrian warships have joined a military assault on protesters in the northern port city of Latakia, activists say. At least 25 people have been killed in the operation, according to activists and human rights groups. Explosions and gunfire have been reported in several districts of the city which have seen large protests against the Syrian government. More than 1,700 people have reportedly died in the six-month uprising against the rule of President Bashar al-Assad. The operation began on Saturday with armored vehicles and troops moving in. Some 20 tanks and personnel carriers were said to be taking part in the Latakia assault along with at least two gunboats.

Corbett: Only Russia able to prevent Libya-style repeat in Syria

Russia has refused to back the call made by the U.S. and the EU urging Syria's leader to step down. Moscow believes President Assad should be given time to implement promised reforms, and that the country should be left alone to sort out its political future.

Of course that video is from CNN . This multinational will never tell their listeners that the opponents of the Syrian " regime " imported arms through Lebanon and have been supported with money from western spying agencies . This is another manufactured color revolution attempt . I don't believe for one moment that the opposition has any leader capable to clean the shoes of Assad . I am sure Assad is not an angel but he is not on the Payola of Mossad or western criminal spying agencies . From past experience the incumbent "leaders or dictators " are much better people than the western criminal mass media will say . Think about Saddam Hussein and have a look at Gaddafi ! I think that Gaddafi is a much better leader than all the PM we had in Italy for the last 60 years . Democracy is S@@T
I hope Assad crashes his opponents . Syria must remain strong , if there is going to be a chance to destroy once for all Israhell when the SHTF .
