Foie gras, French for "fatty liver," is made from the grotesquely enlarged livers of male ducks and geese. The "delicacy" known as foie gras is one of the most sickening examples of cruelty promoted as "luxury.""
We, the undersigned, strongly urge the European Parliament to ban the production of Foie Gras in Europe.
The birds are kept in tiny wire cages or packed into sheds. Pipes are repeatedly, cruelly, forced down the birds' throats, and up to 4 pounds of grain and fat are pumped into their stomachs two or three times every day for two to three weeks until they can barely move and are on the verge of organ rupture and death.

Sponsored by: Norah Andre _ CADEIA PARA QUEM MALTRATA OS ANIMAIS - WEEAC

The cruelty promoted by such events is unthinkable.Bulls and horses are submitted to enormous violence. They have their testicles tied with ropes so that they get desperate and jump to the intense satisfaction of the public. On other occasions they are caught with hopes thrown over them until they fall down and are crudely dragged along the ground. On the horse rides promoted on the south of the country horses are forced to walk huge distances until they collapse from exhaustion. Many die on the way. Please help us put an end on such hideous festivals in Brazil

    http://www.thepetitionsite.com/7/stop-the-construction-of-the-biggest-vivarium-for-vivissection-in-europe---azambuja-portugal/

STOP the construction of the biggest "vivarium" for vivissection in Europe - Azambuja,Portugal.

The Centre for Neuroscience, from Champalimaud Foundation, is building a Vivarium (Bioterio), in Azambuja, where animal testing will be practiced, with all the cruelty embedded in it to breed animals for research purposes.

A vivarium is a place where animals are bred and kept (including rats, dogs and rabbits and other animals) with the purpose of being used as guinea pigs in animal testing. It will have between 20.000 to 25.000 cages of which animals will be raised and sold to universities, investigation institutes and pharmaceutical companies. It will cost 36 million euros, where 27 millions euros are coming from the taxpayers.
This money should not be invested to delay the progress of science but should instead be invested in investigation and implementation of alternative methods, that are more accurate, inexpensive, ethically and compassionately practiced through another forms of research that will not bring extreme cruelty suffering and pain to helpless and weak animals. http://www.thepetitionsite.com/435/justice-for-basie-stop-euthanizing-animals-in-fairfax-county/

Basie the Corgi had only been missing for a few hours when her owners discovered that she had been turned in to the Crosspoint Animal hospital in Fairfax Station. Although she was in good health, with clipped nails and clean fur, by the time her owners found her she'd been euthanized for being a stray.

Basie's owner, Alison, told WUSA9 news, "Basie died alone with strangers, which is the real tragedy. She was a baby, just a helpless little dog, you know?"

The vet who euthanized Basie claims that he was under instruction from the Fairfax Animal Control; Fairfax Animal Control says it gave him no such directions. Regardless of who is at fault, there is only one way to make sure this tragedy never happens again in Fairfax.

Ask Fairfax County to stop euthanizing animals in its shelters!

We the undersigned demand that BEAU ANDERSON and the McCracken County Humane Society Board of Directors all be held equally accountable for the inhumane HEART STICK deaths of over 4000 + McCracken County Humane Society shelter pets.We also demand that if the McCracken County Humane Society is allowed to keep operating that they CEASE the inhumane practise of HEART STICK immediately and start only using the EBI (Euthanazia by Injection) procedure. This must only be used as a last resort, after all efforts have been made to find the shelter pets homes.

    2. http://www.thepetitionsite.com/437/Justice-For-Vucko/

The perpetrators of this heinous act stuffed fireworks in Vucko's mouth! He sustain serious injuries to both his muzzle & nose region. Left for dead on the streets of Sarajevo for 5 days, he was finally euthanized by local veterinarians.

Sadly, acts of cruelty against dogs are an everyday occurrence in Bosnia, a country struggling to rebuild itself since the 1992 civil war. Up until 2009 no animal protection laws existed.

Since then, Bosnia's cantonal and local authorities have struggled to consistently apply these laws. Their indifference to the problem reinforces a public perception that ANIMALS DO NOT MATTER. With a burgeoning stray cat & dog problem, reports of animal cruelty, dog hunts, poisonings, dumping of animals, are still commonplace.

Vucko's death must not go unnoticed! Please sign this petition so that this matter can be brought to the attention of Justice Minister, Zoran Mikulic.

    1. http://www.thepetitionsite.com/1/inhumane-treatment-of-cats-in-korea/

Target: Korean Government (North and South)
Sponsored by: International Aid for Korean Animals

In both North and South Korea, cats are not treated as loving pets, but as disease-carrying beasts that bring bad luck. They treat them terribly, torturing and starving cats in tiny cages without food or water.

The cats all meet the same fate- death. They are used as food, and are treated terribly.

Services- like vet care for cats- are rare in Korea, so the people who do own cats cannot properly care for them.

Cats are considered vermin and they have tried to cut down the cat population in terrible ways, such as beating cats to death in sacks or burning them alive!

We need to educate the public of Korea about cats and encourage owning cats as pets, as well as encourage services dedicated to cats, such as vet care. We need to stop the cruel treatment of cats in Korea!

this is a very important petition

Place video cameras in slaughterhouses and factory farms to watch for improper procedures and inhumane handling of animals

Voluntary surveillance would be appropriate, as undercover investigations have found cows being chained, dragged, rolled, kicked and jabbed in an effort to make them stand and be led into a chute for slaughter. Workers prodded the animals with forklifts and shot powerful streams of water into their nostrils to induce them to move. These are just a few of the abuses out of thousands.

Video cameras are an excellent, economical supplement or alternative to hiring, training, and staffing more USDA inspectors. Video cameras would help create more transparency in animal agriculture and would likely result in better accordance with the laws protecting human health and preventing animal cruelty.

The Premier of China, Wen Jiabao has publicly stated that he is committed to saving the wild tiger. (Read his comment - Nov 2010) However, his government is allowing trade in tiger skins from tiger farms and skins taken before poaching was outlawed. This trade is acting as a smokescreen for skins taken by killing wild tigers. If China does not stop this trade, the wild tiger is doomed. See how they obtain the tigers

    http://www.thepetitionsite.com/1/stop-feline-dissection-in-american-schools/

Target: United States Secretary of Education
    Sponsored by: Animal Advocates

More than 100,000 cats are dissected in classrooms across the country annually by hundreds of thousands of young adults in junior and senior high schools and colleges.

Investigations have shown that Class B dealers (licensed animal brokers) obtain cats from a variety of legal and illegal sources including animal shelters, strays and "free to a good home" ads. Some may even prey on pets that are left unattended. An operation in Mexico was exposed for snatching cats off the street and paying children $1 for each cat caught.. They would then drown them and ship them to the US for dissection in classrooms and labs. In order to get the cats to classrooms, Class B dealers sell the cats to biological supply companies.

    1. http://www.thepetitionsite.com/2/prosecute-villagers-for-the-abuse-torture-and-cruelty-of-a-mother-orangutan-and-her-baby/

Full report by International Animal Rescue © 2011 International Animal Rescue.

"Our team witnesses unspeakable cruelty towards orangutans in Borneo. A female orangutan and her infant have suffered unspeakable cruelty at the hands of villagers in a remote part of Borneo after straying there in search of food. The starving mother and baby had been spotted in the village of Peniraman after there was a landslide in the surrounding area which swept them over a cliff edge. At first there was also a male orangutan with them but he was driven away by the angry mob.

The forest surrounding the village has been converted into palm oil plantations and any small patches of remaining woodland are occupied by humans. Deforestation in the area surrounding Peniraman has led to landslides of the small hills around the village, further shrinking the orangutans' habitat and food supply. If orangutans venture into palm oil plantations they are killed and an orangutan would only enter a human settlement if it was starving and desperate. The female orangutan was subsequently found to be very thin and malnourished, so was clearly desperate for food.
When the villagers came across the orangutans they swung sticks and threw rocks at the terrified animals. The adult female was very weak and probably injured from the fall, so it was easy for the villagers to pursue her and her infant. The male orangutan saw what was happening and tried to protect the mother and baby, but the villagers chased him off. They beat the female with sticks until she submitted on the ground, then tied ropes excruciatingly tightly around her arms and legs. Five men held on to each of her limbs to carry the mother and baby once the ropes were attached, and still she tried to fight back and defend her screeching infant.

The villagers were frustrated that the female still had strength left to try to escape and would not submit to them. They ambushed her again with a large net, took her infant away and tied it up by one foot. The mother panicked and struggled all the more to get back to her baby and so the villagers did something even more unspeakably cruel - they held her down in a pool of water until she was drowning. It must have taken several men to pull her into the pool and hold her head below the water until her body went limp and her lungs filled with water.
Once the mother was unconscious, they dragged her to a makeshift pen. She was still alive but could barely sit up. As she no longer posed any threat to the villagers they dragged the infant by the rope attached to her foot and tossed her into the cage with her dying mother. A large crowd of people gathered around the cage and took amusement in their suffering. The mother used what strength she had left to wrap her arms around her terrified baby while her infant desperately tried to chew through the ropes still tied to her mother's arms and legs.

Then the crowd grew restless and began yelling and poking at the orangutans with sticks. Thankfully at this point IAR's vet Anita Herawati arrived on the scene and witnessed the cruelty as the frenzied crowd cheered. Anita acted fast to rescue the tortured orangutans as quickly as possible. Anita first sedated the infant, who was still quite strong and defensive and then sedated her mother. Both were taken to the forestry department for temporary housing before translocation.

The infant awoke from the anaesthesia without a problem but the mother was barely able to move even her fingers. It had been days since mother and baby had eaten a meal. Anita gave food and examined them both and desperately tried to hook up an IV line to the mother. Anita encouraged the baby into her own temporary cage to eat and sleep while she treated the mother. But every vein Anita tried was collapsed and she could hear liquid inside the orangutan's lungs.
As time went on the mother orangutan began snoring and breathing unsteadily and within fifteen minutes she was dead. Anita had done everything she could to save the poor animal but in the end oedema and haemorrhaging of the lungs caused her death. There was nothing more Anita could have done and she wept in despair when she called everyone back at IAR's rescue centre to break the horrific news of the orangutan's death.

The infant was now frantically looking for her mother and was certainly traumatised but she had no immediately life-threatening injuries. Anita brought the baby to the rehabilitation centre in Ketapang because she is too young to be translocated to a forest by herself. She arrived without a problem and is now safe in Ketapang. The team have called the infant Peni and are doing all they can to help her recover from her terrible trauma.

There are still seven remaining orangutans living in unsuitable forests surrounding the village of Peniraman where this tragedy took place, including the male who came down to the village with the mother and Peni. IAR's team is committed to doing everything they can to rescue and translocate all these orangutans as soon as they can raise sufficient funds to do so
