Re: PETITIONS
This was My Reply to Your latest Petition as posted.
The Bold is My addition to the Form Email being sent...
"I was dismayed to learn that the University of Texas at Dallas continues to conduct a deadly classroom experiment on rats in NSC 4353 despite the experiment's inherent cruelty and the availability of a sophisticated computer simulation that can teach students the same concepts without harming animals.
Time and again, non-animal teaching methods such as computer simulators have been shown to teach complex biological processes as well as or better than the use of animals.
They also create a more inclusive learning environment by accommodating students who object to harming animals but who want to pursue careers in neuroscience.
Please replace this deadly experiment with humane alternatives. Simply put - If You have humane alternatives to the cruelty being practised - Continuation demonstrates cruelty and nothing else.
The Creator calls out to You and Yours to stop this once and for all...

Re: PETITIONS
Do you still stand with Haiti?
One year ago, a massive earthquake claimed the lives of more than
220,000 Haitians and left their capital in ruins.
Today, with cholera sickening tens of thousands and nearly a million
people still homeless, the challenges of recovery remain enormous.
These persistent challenges threaten to derail a fragile rebuilding
process. The US can offer critical support - if we remind our
legislators of their promise to support the people of Haiti.
As their constituent, your Senators and Representative value your
voice - so we need YOUR help today.
It's easy - just call 1-646-452-9493 and enter the pin number
3804. Introduce yourself by stating your name, occupation and your
city and state. Then leave a message for your legislators asking them
to stand with the people of Haiti and support their rebuilding
efforts.
Once you record your message, we will add your voice to our
nationwide voice resolution
http://actfast.oxfamamerica.org/index.php/issues/saving-lives
, which we will share with members of Congress. We need as many voices
as possible to let our leaders know we won't forget Haiti.
It will take patience and hard work, but if we stand behind the people
of Haiti, they can build back better.
Thanks to the efforts of activists like you, Oxfam has provided water,
sanitation, shelter, food aid and other vital assistance to 1.2
million people since the earthquake - and saved countless lives.
But this is just a fraction of the people that still need help. The
reconstruction efforts in the country are slow, and will fail without
the support of people around the world.
Haitian authorities need to show greater strategic leadership and make
decisions that reflect the needs of the Haitian population. They need
to initiate public infrastructure projects that put people to work and
build skills; support people to return home or allocate land for new
houses; and invest in agriculture. And they need the support of the
international community to make these changes reality.
But this is just a fraction of the people that still need help. The
reconstruction efforts in the country are slow, and will fail without
the support of people around the world.
Haiti can't do this alone - they need the support of the
international community to help the country rebuild and repair.
We can help. With Congress' support, we can help ensure that Haiti is
rebuilt in a way includes local communities and supports sustainable
livelihoods.
Tell our leaders to commit to the long-haul. Add your voice today, and
tell Congress we won't forget the people of Haiti.

As part of an annual conference sponsored by the University of Utah and the Primary Children's Medical Center (PCMC), trainees repeatedly force hard plastic tubes down cats' delicate windpipes in an archaic training exercise—and many of the cats are killed at the end of the training session. Conference attendees also cut up and poke needles into rabbits who were killed in other experiments. This cruelty is scheduled to occur next on February 14, 2011.
Shockingly, this abuse continues even though sophisticated infant simulators are widely used in training seminars across the country!

Re: PETITIONS
In our most recent e-mail, we asked you to post a message on Primary Children's Medical Center's (PCMC) Facebook wall opposing its cruel and archaic cat intubation laboratory scheduled for this Monday, February 14. It appears that PCMC has disabled its Facebook account in order to prevent compassionate people like you from posting public messages criticizing the facility's inhumane training exercise.
During this harmful exercise, cats will have hard plastic tubes forced down their delicate windpipes for intubation training—even though modern, superior simulators are available and widely used across the country for this very purpose.
PCMC can try to ignore the recommendations of leading medical organizations and experts in the field who strongly endorse the use of simulators for intubation training—but we can't allow PCMC to ignore your voice!
Please take a moment to call PCMC's Pediatric Education Services Department at 1-800-910-7262 and politely ask the facility to replace the use of animals in the upcoming Transport Conference with modern and humane simulators.
Thank you for keeping the pressure on PCMC!

Re: PETITIONS
Uncontacted Tribes Threatened by Illegal Logging in the Amazon
Recently released photos prove the existence of uncontacted tribes within the Amazon, on the border of Brazil and Peru. While the community seems happy and healthy, they are living under the constant threat of illegal logging.
Peru is one of the last countries to ban rare rainforest wood logging and loggers looking for sought-after mahogany are pushing farther and farther into the forest to find it. Tribes that have not had contact with the modern world are now in danger of illegal logging within their territory, which could prove deadly.
The isolated people are vulnerable to diseases of the modern world, such as the flu or the common cold, that could devastate their populations if they are transmitted by the loggers. They are also in danger of conflict that could arise as they try to protect their land against loggers or conflict with other tribes if they migrate into Brazil.
Survival International is hoping that the worldwide spread of the photos will force the Peruvian government to recognise the existence of the tribe and work with Brazil to protect their territory from loggers and others looking to exploit the natural resources the land holds. Survival International said:
Survival and other NGOs have been campaigning for years for the Peruvian government to act decisively to stop the invasion, but little has been done.
Survival’s Director Stephen Corry said, 'The illegal loggers will destroy this tribe. It's vital that the Peruvian government stop them before time runs out. The people in these photos are self-evidently healthy and thriving. What they need from us is their territory protected, so that they can make their own choices about their future.
'But this area is now at real risk, and if the wave of illegal logging isn’t stopped fast, their future will be taken out of their hands. This isn't just a possibility: it's irrefutable history, rewritten on the graves of countless tribes for the last five centuries.'
Find out more information on the tribe, photos, and updates of Survival International's campaign to protect the tribe's lands.
To urge Peruvian President Alan Garcia to protect the tribe from illegal logging, sign the petition here:

Re: PETITIONS
GOOD NEWS
Thanks to you and more than 25,000 other compassionate people who took part in our campaign, Primary Children's Medical Center (PCMC) has announced that it has canceled plans to torment cats for cruel medical training exercises.
As you know, PCMC—in conjunction with the University of Utah—intended to abuse cats from an animal shelter in training sessions at an upcoming conference, in which trainees would have repeatedly shoved tubes down the cats' throats. The cats would likely have suffered bleeding, swelling, scarring, and collapsed lungs—and possibly even death. But because of your personal efforts, they will now be spared this suffering!
