The video in question shows the ignorance of the general populace and while it yes shows lack of knowledge I often wonder how people get by these days.

A RELIGION steeped in ritual sacrifice:

Odinism sacrifice could comprise inanimate objects, animals or humans.

Amongst the Norse, there were two types of human sacrifice; that performed for the gods at religious festivals, and retainer sacrifice that was performed at a funeral. An eye-witness account of retainer sacrifice survives in Ibn Fadlan's account of a Rus ship burial, where a slave-girl had volunteered to accompany her lord to the next world. Reports of religious sacrifice are given by Tacitus, Saxo Grammaticus and Adam of Bremen.

The Heimskringla tells of Swedish King Aun who sacrificed nine of his sons in an effort to prolong his life until his subjects stopped him from killing his last son Egil. According to Adam of Bremen, the Swedish kings sacrificed males every ninth year during the Yule sacrifices at the Temple at Uppsala. The Swedes had the right not only to elect kings but also to depose them, and both king Domalde and king Olof Trätälja are said to have been sacrificed after years of famine.

Odin, the chief god of the Norse, was associated with death by hanging, and a possible practice of Odinic sacrifice by strangling has some archeological support in the existence of bodies perfectly preserved by the acid of the Jutland (later taken over by the Daner people) peatbogs, into which they were cast after having been strangled.

Human sacrifice, with very few exceptions, was made to Odin. Offered up to him were prisoners-of-war, servants or criminals. In times of crisis members of the most noble families could be sacrificed to appease Odin and there is even a case in Scandinavia of a king being sacrificed after a few years of bad harvests.

The Greek historian Strabo had given us a detailed account of human sacrifice in his report on the Cimbrians: "The women who had accompanied their men into battle were led by priestesses who could predict the future. These priestesses were gray-haired and clad in white garments. An overgarment made of linen was fastened with a pin at the shoulder. They also wore a belt of bronze and went barefoot. With a sword in their hands they walked towards the POWs, placed a wreath on their heads and led them to a 20-gallon bronze pot. They climbed up a short ladder leaning against the cauldron and slit the throat of each POW who was lifted up for them. They prophesied the future based on the manner in which the blood flowed into the pot. Other priestesses slit open the bodies of the POWs and after examining the position of the entrails proclaimed that the Cimbrians would win victory."

After this victory the Cimbrians did indeed sacrifice all POWs to Odin by hanging them from trees and when they themselves were vanquished in the battle of Vercellae in 101 B.C.E. they even hung themselves from trees, wagon axles and the horns of cattle as a sacrifice to Odin and the hope of being accepted into Valhalla.

The most frequent animal sacrifices were horses, cattle, goats, sheep and pigs, but also birds from time to time. They were generally male animals and sacrificed to the gods with whom they were associated: horses for Odin and Freyr, goats for Thor, pigs for Freyr and Freyja-Carmen.

The ritualistic slaughter of the sacrifices followed an age-old pattern: the animals were strangled and then held over a bronze pot where their throats were slit. The priests examined the flow of the blood to determine the will of the gods and then called out the results to the crowd. After the blood ceased flowing, the animals were cut open and the position of the entrails examined. The flesh was then taken carefully off the bones (the bones could not be broken so that the animals could be resurrected in the World of the Dead or Other World). The meat was placed in a pile before the deity usually symbolised by a stick-figure. The head was nailed to a tree or, if no trees were available, to a sacred stake.

Occasionally the bones were tied together and also hung from the stake. The meat was used for the ensuing feast and in some instances the brokens of certain animals were broken in order to provide marrow for the broth, but even these bones were then collected and offered up to the stick-figure. Excavations at Oberdorla and in Scandinavian indicate that there was no difference in the sacrificial customs among the different Germanic tribes.

The inedible parts of the animal were burned on the animal and thus also sacrificed to the god. Before the meat was cooked in the vats the priests dipped fronds into the blood and springled these over the gathered crowd, the altars and other sacred objects. After temples were erected to compete with Christianity they also springled the statues of the gods and the walls of the temple with this blood. This blood was a means of establishing A holy communion between the gods and the worshippers. The same applies to the feast that followed. It was a very solemn religious event when the divinity and the community are one.


But let's get REAL here:

Odinism is a term used by some practitioners of Heathenry, a modern Pagan new religious movement. Its practitioners seek to revive the pre-Christian religions adhered to by the Germanic peoples of Iron Age and Early Medieval Europe.

Many racialist-oriented Heathens prefer the terms Odinism or Wotanism to describe their religion.

Although one Odinist group specifically teaches that there are no "master races" and no "chosen peoples," the term "Odinism" is sometimes associated with the ideology of Nordicism and "folkish" ideals.

According to Professor Mattias Gardell, some see "Odinism as revolving around the primacy of race and Asatrú serving as its nonracial counterpart," but "in reality" there "seems to be no such neat division," and many "self-defined Asatrúers" are "centered on race."

TRANSPARENCY IN TOT

A healthy community needs to be publicly transparent.  There have been many issues brought to the table which are mostly being ignored by 'management'.  Heavy censorship is being used to stifle free speech.  Those who raise serious questions about any subject are often labeled as 'trolls', 'pot-stirrers', and even unsubscribed or banned.  Often, threads are 'sanitized' to remove any and all traces of such questioning.  Most criticism is frowned upon and regarded as an attack against members -- regardless of who they are.  Perhaps, not all members are as ideally respectful of others as they ought to be or communicate as eloquently as others.  Still, they need to be heard without being labeled, ridiculed, and/or attacked.

We are all adults here.  We are self-governing.  Let's leave our egos at the door and approach this in an open, honest, respectful dialog.  Rules are not written in stone and are meant to be flexible to help maintain a healthy, happy, safe community.  Rules become laws when they only serve the few.  We are many.  We are equals.  All our voices need to be heard.

This may be a private forum, but there is a public aspect to it.  The public have access to many threads, and it is the public that are 'enticed' to join under the premise that TOT is a fair, safe place for all.  If this is an entirely private forum and the 'management' is comfortable with how it is run, then run it as such, but do not invite the public in under a false premise.

Soon after my ban, the trolls began to arrive, so Mental Floss 2 has had to ask people to register in order to enter.  At the moment, we've allowed one troll to remain, as an example, of what we're dealing with (there were two trolls initially).  These 'trolls' are real trolls and have done nothing but insult us venomously -- often swearing -- and using vulgar, degrading language.  We do not wish to label anyone unjustly because we know how that feels and have left their comments up for all to see.

Thanks for the question.  No, I'm not 'testing the waters' of The Mists of Avalon.  I heard that this forum welcomes freedom of speech so I felt compelled to share my message and the story surrounding it here.  The people running TOT are doing everything they can to stop my message from spreading.

Super inquiry.  Those of us who've been members of TOT have all joked about the title.  The 'founder', Malcolm, gave some strange explanation for it once -- something about throwing words together that were unrelated...?  Either he wasn't giving much thought to what he was doing at the time, or, he was planning his 3rd Reich the whole time.  Because, if the name didn't fit before, it certainly fits now.
