PEACE and MUCH GRATITUDE!

Are you planning on staying with us, my friend? In that case, I'll add a few more cans of salmon and chili to the pile.
We've got plenty of beans and rice already :) - LOL

Aw, Lee. Hanging out with you guys has always been on my list of things that would be really fun to do, regardless of circumstances. But, "circumstances" is right where we all are, isn't it? hehe Beans + Rice = complete protein.

You have always felt like home.

After this cold winter, I am tempted to vote for the weather in Hawaii. :op (San Diego has really nice weather, but not a lot of fun).

There is much hope in that statement: If Hawaii survives, California survives (unless some big wave is thrown off course and sent to my back door, in order for Hawaii to survive - lol).

That's really only funny if one understands they never die.."

__________

It boggles my mind to think that Japan is having "aftershocks" that are larger than the quake when I was in San Francisco in 1989.

While not HUGE (yet?), the waves came to my back door much more quickly than I expected:

Tsunami: Docks ripped out in Fort Bragg fishing community

Fort Bragg, California, and the rest of "my world." -Clear Lake is the little blue lake just south of the Mendocino National Forest / north of Santa Rosa (the lake actually wraps around the base of the volcano on three sides).

"March 11, 2011 | 12:50 pm

Surges of water hit the tiny town of Fort Bragg, 200 miles south of Crescent City, witnesses say, ripping out docks and filling the water with debris, and closing off exits and entrances to the port.

Fort Bragg is an epicenter of California's fishing community, and dozens of boats leave from there to fish crab, black cod and salmon.

"It's pretty brutal," said Charles D. Smith, a fisherman who owns a boat called the Miss Smith. "The ends of the docks are floating around all over the place."

Smith got down to the harbor early in the morning and battened down his hatches. Other fishermen sailed to sea earlier Friday to escape damage in port. There won't be anywhere for them to dock when they return, he said.

"They lucked out in a sense -– they're not going to have to run around cleaning stuff up," he said.

The harbor commission will have to replace the docks and clear away the debris, which could slow down fishing in and out of the harbor, a sleepy place where sea lions often sun themselves. It's currently black cod season.

"It's a nuisance," Smith said.

John Gebers, who owns Noyo Fishing Center, in the harbor at Fort Bragg, said that four-foot surges are still rolling in and up the river that winds out of Noyo Bay.

"It's strange, it makes it look like the river reverses direction," he said by phone from the riverbank, where 50 people were standing to watch from land. "It's still surging."

Fort Bragg and Crescent City were the two cities hit hardest by the tsunami caused by a 1964 earthquake."
___________

I used to have a mortgage on a home in Fort Bragg. I still see clients, there. Nothing necessarily that sensational on its own, but things are really starting to add up.

I was in Fort Bragg on the same morning that I ended up sliding off of the road and getting stuck in the snow, when I had my out of body experience/past-life (?) regression [which actually was my second accident of the day; the first was in Fort Bragg, when I slid off of the road during a freak hail storm the seemingly dropped hundreds of thousands of frozen marbles from the sky, and right on me]. (I am trying to connect the dots and leave bread crumbs; this is my somewhat self-indulgent thread):

Japan's Chernobyl? Radiation pressure fears at Fukushima plant

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pHHQXW7VSMw

Japan is dealing with the aftermath of a massive tsunami. The official number killed is now 375. That's a figure which even the most optimistic estimates suggest will rise dramatically. The huge wave was caused by the biggest earthquake in the country's history. Japan has now asked the UN to send rescue teams to help deal with the disaster. Another earthquake has also hit central Japan in the past hours, although there are no reports of damage from this latest aftershock. An emergency situation has been declared at the Fukushima nuclear plant in the north east, after it was damaged. The pressure inside the reactor is rising, raising fears of a radiation leak. But Japan's nuclear safety agency says to reduce the pressure, radioactive vapor may be released, posing no risk to humans or the environment.

REPORT: 88,000 People Are Missing In Japan

March-11-11 9:17

Business Insider

Friday, March 11, 2011

Heartbreaking: While the death toll remains in the low hundreds right now (officially) it seems sure to spiral much higher.
According to the Kyodo News Agency, via BBC, the official missing persons tally is around 88,000.
It’s well known that a lot of people are simply stranded in the cities, including Tokyo, and in many cases the people are probaby safe. It’s not clear how they’re included in the number.

NUKE PLANT: Japan PM Orders Wider Evacuation, As Radiation Levels Hit 1000X Normal
March 11th, 2011

Update: 4:29 PM ET: Anti-nuclear expert Kevin Kamp explains the nightmare scenario in Fukushma, via Forbes and the Institute for Public Accuracy:

“The electrical grid is down. The emergency diesel generators have been damaged. The multi-reactor Fukushima atomic power plant is now relying on battery power, which will only last around eight hours. The danger is, the very thermally hot reactor cores at the plant must be continuously cooled for 24 to 48 hours. Without any electricity, the pumps won’t be able to pump water through the hot reactor cores to cool them. Once electricity is lost, the irradiated nuclear fuel could begin to melt down. If the containment systems fail, a catastrophic radioactivity release to the environment could occur.

“In addition to the reactor cores, the storage pool for highly radioactive irradiated nuclear fuel is also at risk. The pool cooling water must be continuously circulated. Without circulation, the still thermally hot irradiated nuclear fuel in the storage pools will begin to boil off the cooling water. Within a day or two, the pool’s water could completely boil away. Without cooling water, the irradiated nuclear fuel could spontaneously combust in an exothermic reaction. Since the storage pools are not located within containment, a catastrophic radioactivity release to the environment could occur. Up to 100 percent of the volatile radioactive Cesium-137 content of the pools could go up in flames and smoke, to blow downwind over large distances. Given the large quantity of irradiated nuclear fuel in the pool, the radioactivity release could be worse than the Chernobyl nuclear reactor catastrophe of 25 years ago.”

Meanwhile, Kyodo is reporting that local radiation levels are 8 times more than normal.

Update 4:43 PM: Now according to Kyodo, radiation is measured at 1000x normal.

Reporting from the Northwest Coast, Canada.
We were on advisory throughout the night, but this morning, we received not a ripple. I have not heard of any damage on the west coast of Vancouver island, nor along the west coast line. I am about 40 mi. south of the southern tip of Alaska, no damage reported along the northern west coast.

Nulcear Reactor in meltdown.. right now.. 3/11/11 7:50pm CST http://www.cnn.com/2011/WORLD/asiapcf/03/11/japan.nuclear/index.html?hpt=T1 from one of my subscribers: "this is the worst case scenario accident for a nuclear plant, it's called a loss of coolant accident (LOCA) and the mission statement at the plant I work at is the three C's, control, cool, contain, that is control the reaction, cool the fuel, contain the radioactivity. They are having cooling problems and the pressure is rising, that pressure CANNOT rise. If you google LOCA or loss of coolant (which MSM is leaving out of their reports or people would freak) will show you why that pressure cannot rise. " ANYONE down wind from Japan should be concerned.. unfortunately... the UNITED STATES is down wind from Japan. We have 3 days if it leaks before it gets here to the west coast or Canada. much love in these times

WELL THIS IS OBVIOUSLY A GOOD TIME TO INVEST RESOURCES INTO USING MAGNETIC AETHER ENERGY!!! STUPID EARTHLINGS!!!

PERHAPS THE "WINDS OF DEATH" WILL WAKE THOSE WHO SURVIVE UP!!! TESLA ONLY GAVE YOU ALL THE SOLUTION 100 + YEARS AGO!!! UNLIMITED "FREE" ENERGY!!! FOREVER!!!

SO FU*K YOU SHIMA!!! SERVES YOU RIGHT!!! RETARDS!!! LET THIS BE ANOTHER LESSON TO YOU ALL!!! WAKE UP!!!

MAYBE NOW YOU WANNA SPEND THAT 300 BILLION YOU TALKED ABOUT AT MY KITCHEN TABLE!!! WHAT A MESS!!! BUT NO ONE WANTS TO LISTEN TO MY TEAM!!! YOU JUST BAN US AND STEAL OUR HARD WORK OF TEACHING AND RAISING AWARENESS ON SO MANY TOPICS AND TECHNOLOGIES!!! WHILE THIS IS ALL TRAGIC AND THE LOSS OF LIFE HEART BREAKING!!! FUTURE NUCLEAR DISASTERS CAN BE AVOIDED BY TELLING THE TRUTH!!!

This is insane because the technology to shut every nuclear reactor down ALREADY EXISTS!!! My science research friend has publicly shown so much but the powers that were want to OWN AND CONTROL THE PRECIOUS!!! Rather then do the right thing!! So many other researchers are working on zero point energy!!! There rumor is that governments are already using what they have stolen!!! They do not understand the divinity behind how the technology works!!! ! OMG IM GONNA FREAK OUT!!!

WERE GOING TO UPSHIFT THIS PLANET!!! FROM A CLASS ZERO!!! NO MORE BURNING PLUTONIUM, OIL, COAL, WOOD, CORN AND OTHER FOOD. NO MORE COMBUSTION PERIOD.

YOU ALL BETTER PRAY THIS THING DOSE NOT BLOW!!! AND YOU ALL BETTER DEMAND ZERO POINT ENERGY!!!

The first commercial nuclear power stations started operation in the 1950s.

There are now over 440 commercial nuclear power reactors operating in 30 countries, with 377,000 MWe of total capacity.

They provide about 14% of the world's electricity as continuous, reliable base-load power, and their efficiency is increasing.

56 countries operate a total of about 250 research reactors and a further 180 nuclear reactors power some 140 ships and submarines.

Pretty amazing. Reminds me of the 2012 movie.

Snap analysis: Japan may have hours to prevent nuclear meltdown
(Reuters) - Japanese officials may only have hours to cool reactors that have been disabled by Friday's massive earthquake and tsunami or face a nuclear meltdown.

Tokyo Electric Power Co (TEPCO) (9501.T) is racing to cool down the reactor core after a highly unusual "station blackout" -- the total loss of power necessary to keep water circulating through the plant to prevent overheating.

Daiichi Units 1, 2 and 3 reactors shut down automatically at 2:46 p.m. local time due to the earthquake. But about an hour later, the on-site diesel back-up generators also shut, leaving the reactors without alternating current (AC) power.

That caused Tepco to declare an emergency and the government to evacuate thousands of people from near the plant. Such a blackout is "one of the most serious conditions that can affect a nuclear plant," according to experts at the Union of Concerned Scientists, a U.S. based nuclear watchdog group.

URGENT: Radiation 1,000 times higher than normal detected at nuke plant
TOKYO, March 12, Kyodo

The amount of radiation reached around 1,000 times the normal level Saturday in the control room of the No. 1 reactor of the Fukushima No. 1 nuclear power plant, the Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency said.

The discovery suggests radioactive steam could spread around the facility operated by Tokyo Electric Power Co.

Japan warns of radiation leak from quake-hit plant - Fears of THREE MILE ISLAND repeat...

(Reuters) - Japan warned of a possible radiation leak on Saturday as authorities battled to contain rising pressure at two nuclear plants damaged by a massive earthquake, but said thousands of residents in the area had already been moved out of harm's way.

Pressure was building in reactors of two plants at Tokyo Electric Power Co's Fukushima facility, located some 240 km (150 miles) north of Tokyo. At one of them, the Daiichi plant, pressure was set to released soon, which could result in a radiation leak, officials said.

"It's possible that radioactive material in the reactor vessel could leak outside but the amount is expected to be small, and the wind blowing toward the sea will be considered," Chief Cabinet Secretary Yukio Edano told a news conference.

'No health hazard' as evacuation call goes out
A JAPANESE nuclear safety panel says radiation levels are 1000 times above normal in a reactor control room after a huge quake damaged a plant's cooling system.

Public broadcaster NHK, quoting nuclear safety officials, said there was “no immediate health hazard” to nearby residents from a possible minute leakage, and people were urged to evacuate the area calmly.

The elevated reading was taken in the control room of the No1 reactor of the Fukushima No1 nuclear power plant, said the Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry.

Kyodo News said that the discovery suggested radioactive steam could spread around the facility, which is located about 250km northeast of Tokyo and operated by Tokyo Electric Power.

Prime Minister Naoto Kan said early today that residents living within 10km of the plant must evacuate. He then stepped onto a helicopter to head for the area.

UPDATE 1-US did not deliver coolant to Japan nuclear reactor
(Reuters) - The U.S. military did not provide any coolant for a Japanese nuclear plant affected by a massive earthquake on Friday, U.S. officials said.

U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton earlier had said that U.S. Air Force "assets" had delivered "some really important coolant" to a Japanese nuclear power plant.

One U.S. official said he believed Clinton was told Japan had requested the material, that the United States had agreed to provide it, and that an operation to do so was under way.

Ultimately, however, Japan did not need assistance from the United States but Clinton did not appear to have been updated before she made her public remarks.

"We understand that ultimately the Japanese government handled the situation on its own," said another U.S. official, who spoke on condition of anonymity.

Tsunami warning center raises magnitude of Japan quake to 9.1
The Japan earthquake was the fourth most powerful ever recorded with a magnitude of 9.1, twice more powerful than the initial estimate of 8.9, Gerard Fryer, geophysicist of the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center, said this morning.

Three others that were more powerful since the late 1800s when seismometers started measuring ground motions were in 9.5 in Chile in 1960, 9.2 in Alaska in 1964 and 9.1 in Sumatra in 2004, according to Fryer.

The new magnitude was adjusted based on the impact of the quake throughout the Pacific, he said. "It fits all measurements, including in Hawaii," Fryer said.

The U.S. Geological Survey estimate of the quake's magnitude is still 8.9.

It is not uncommon for scientists to estimate different magnitudes immediately after an earthquake.

THE SEISMIC MONITORS ARE ALL MOST ENTIRELY BLACK http://aslwww.cr.usgs.gov/Seismic_Data/heli2.shtml

JT, I agree with you. When I first learned about nuclear energy back in the 70s I thought it was an insane given the longevity of nuclear radio-active material. I just knew it was wrong. When I was in Berlin visiting family my husband's cousin was talking about a nuclear plant being built and thinking this was a "good" think. This was a smart woman. I couldn't believe my ears. I've always tought wind and solar were the way to go before I ever learned about nuclear energy power plants and how hazardous they were.

And then there is zero-point energy, air combustion energy, H20 energy.. all types of energy that doesn't create waste or harm the environment. I too wonder how human beings would want to put a stranglhold on humankind and just be so utterly voic of compassion. It it were my world we would have alternative energy that is in harmony with all of life. It is utterly tragic what has gone donw the pike because just a few factions decided they should control the world. There are still more of us then them and they need to stand aside and step donw NOW.

AFTER THE FLOOD, THE FLAMES...

Towns burn furiously as devastation continues into the night
Quake now said to have measured 9.0 on Richter scale
Magnitude 6.6 aftershock causes buildings in Tokyo to sway
Death toll expected to exceed 1,000 with many more injured
Ship carrying 100 passengers swept away by tsunami
Four million people without power in Tokyo alone
More than 1,000 people are feared to have died after the sixth largest earthquake in recorded history devastated Japan.

The massive earthquake - 8,000 times stronger than the one that hit New Zealand last month - sent a catastrophic 33 foot tsunami hurtling across the Pacific Ocean.

Last night the strength of the quake increased to a staggering 9.0 on the Richter scale.

Thousands of people were also forced to flee for their lives as the 100mph wall of water bore down on them, sweeping away everything in its path.

Last night, huge fires burned unabated across large parts of the country as damaged oil refineries and gas works billowed black smoke into the sky.
Half the country was understood to be without power, with four million homes in Tokyo alone being cut off, while the army has been deployed to the quake-hit areas to help relief efforts.
However those relief efforts were hampered by at least 50 reported aftershocks, including a 6.6 magnitude tremor which hit Tokyo and caused already damaged buildings to shake further.
Elsewhere, two high-speed bullet trains were missing alongside a cruise ship carrying 100 passengers that was swept away when the wave hit. One of the trains was reported to be carrying 400 passengers.
A state of emergency was declared at a nuclear power plant in Fukushima after the quake caused the cooling system to fail.
Tonight, the Japanese government confirmed that they would release radioactive vapor to ease high pressure that had built up inside the reactor.

I wonder if the direction of the wind could still bring people here?

I had completely forgotten about this, so I do not have a source, but it is my understanding that at some point in the late 70s and/or 80s, Lawrence Livermore Labs did stuides of the wind patterns over Lake County. Lore had it that due to some little quirk, radiation would likely be carried up and over us -- something about "night-winds".

Hmmm...

Sorry for rambling. Just a bit numb.

U.S. Military Scrambles to Avoid Nuclear Meltdown in Japan
Mar. 11 2011 - 7:23 pm
By WILLIAM PENTLAND
Kashiwazaki-Kariwa Nuclear Power Plant

The United States military and other nations are scrambling to support the government of Japan’s efforts to avoid a nuclear meltdown at a nuclear facility affected by the massive Earthquake earlier today.

If the cooling system were to lose power during the initial decay period of 24 to 48 hours, a meltdown would likely follow. The cooling system relied on an 8-hour battery supply, which are reportedly being supplemented by other similar batteries being airlifted by military aircraft if operators are unable to get the diesel generators or grid power back up in time. As a result, the situation appears to be under control, but will remain risky until a more permanent solution is found, which could include mobile generators if necessary.

The local evacuation was precautionary, as the fuel was last reported to be well underwater as it should be. There has been no report of containment leakage; radiation levels are reportedly elevated but still very low. . Watch this space.

Reuters reported less than an hour ago that “The company said it was preparing back-up generators to pump water and cool the reactor.”

It is unknown whether the Richter 8.8-8.9 earthquake was above the reactor’s design basis. This will likely change soon.

UPDATE 7.39pm: FOUR people have been injured in an explosion that occurred at the No. 1 reactor of the quake-hit Fukushima No. 1 nuclear power plant, the operator Tokyo Electric Power Co. said Saturday.

The explosion was heard at 3.36 pm following large tremors and white smoke was seen at the facility in Fukushima Prefecture, the company said.

The four workers were working to deal with problems caused by a powerful earthquake that hit northeastern Japan on Friday. However there is no word on injured worker's condition, Jiji news agency says.

Fukushima prefecture says TEPCO'S no.1 reactor ceiling has collapsed, Jiji reports.

Radioactivity at the plant was 20 times over the normal level, and Japan's Nuclear Safety Commission has said it may be experiencing meltdown.

Tokyo Electric Power Co (TEPCO) says explosion may have been hydrogen used to cool Fukushima plant, Kyodo report.

(CNN) -- The powerful earthquake that unleashed a devastating tsunami Friday appears to have moved the main island of Japan by 8 feet (2.4 meters) and shifted the Earth on its axis.

"At this point, we know that one GPS station moved (8 feet), and we have seen a map from GSI (Geospatial Information Authority) in Japan showing the pattern of shift over a large area is consistent with about that much shift of the land mass," said Kenneth Hudnut, a geophysicist with the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS).

Reports from the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology in Italy estimated the 8.9-magnitude quake shifted the planet on its axis by nearly 4 inches (10 centimeters).
