The government has confirmed 23 deaths, with the number expected to rise. It follows the 8.9-magnitude earthquake which sent a 4-metre wall of water inland across the Miyagi prefecture . There's considerable destruction - 200 people have been washed away. Buildings, cars and ships were also swept by the raging waters. Several are missing on Japan's Sendai island. The first wave has also reached Russia's Kuril islands to the north, reportedly around a metre high. There are several fires along Japan's eastern coastline, and 4 million homes are without power. The Prime Minister's ordered an emergency response team to tackle the disaster - with aircraft scrambled to the worst-affected area. Communication is crippled and Tokyo's Norita International Airport has been closed. The entire Pacific region is on tsunami alert - with Hawaii braced to be hit within the next few hours.

HONOLULU (AP) - Tsunami waves hit Hawaii in the early morning hours Friday and were sweeping through the island chain after an earthquake in Japan sparked evacuations throughout the Pacific and as far as the U.S. western coast.
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said Kauai was the first island hit early Friday by the tsunami. Water rushed ashore in Honolulu, swamping the beach in Waikiki and surging over the break wall in the world-famous resort but stopping short of the area's high-rise hotels.
Waves at least 3 feet high were recorded on Oahu and Kauai, and officials warned that the waves would continue and could become larger.
Roadways and beaches were empty as the tsunamis struck the state, which had hours to prepare. Residents in coastal areas of Hawaii were sent to refuge areas at community centers and schools while tourists in Waikiki were moved to higher floors of their high-rise hotels. People waited in long lines stocking up on gas, bottled water, canned food and generators, and officials told residents to stock up on water and fill their cars with gas.
The tsunami, spawned by an 8.9-magnitude earthquake in Japan, slammed the eastern coast of Japan, sweeping away boats, cars, homes and people as widespread fires burned out of control. It raced across the Pacific at 500 mph - as fast as a jetliner - and likely won't change speed until it hits a large area of land, said Kanoa Koyanagi, a geophysicist for the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center.
Waves are predicted to hit the western coast of the United States between 11 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. EST Friday. People near the beach and in low-lying coastal areas of Point Conception in Santa Barbara County were told to move immediately inland to higher ground.
While the tsunami is likely to go around smaller islands, the size of Hawaii's islands will amplify the waves, which will crash hardest against harbors and inlets.
"They're going to be coming in with high currents, they can pick up boulders from the sea floor ... they can pick up cars, they can pick up fuel tanks, those things become battering rams and so it just amplifies the destruction in a big tsunami," said Chip McCreery, director for the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center.
Waves almost 5 feet high hit Midway, a tiny island in the North Pacific about 1,300 miles northwest of Honolulu.

This is a bad event. Its amazing what you can wake up to the next day. Not a time to rest on your laurels. If, as it is suggested around 97 percent of the worlds human population will be removed from this system within 2 years then this episode will give us an idea of the all ensuing mess coming our way.

It is indeed a bad event, lets hope that many missing will be back like it happened in Chile. Of course the scale of the devastation can not be parallel
Thankfully Hawaii is well prepared and so far so good and with luck the small islanders from other areas are safe too

I really hate to bring this up - but is there any evidence of HAARP or any tectonic weaponry being used in connection with all of this? As Floyd pointed out - this could only be the beginning. I continue to doubt 'naturally occurring disasters'. There is too much REALLY devastating and creepy technology in this solar system. I am very worried regarding major injuries and a very high death toll.

How appropriate that the latest article of Cliff from Halfpasthuman is also linked in another thread on MOA . Post no 2 on this thread and what's happening in Japan fits perfectly with Cliff's explanation of the expanding Earth .

Let Us all remember that as long as Yellowstone doesn't go off - We are on the Expansion Timeline - And that extreme and terrible though this 8.9'er and other events will be as We go along - The Supervolcanoe not going off yet is a good thing and I'd bet My next paycheque that this and other events are the release of this Energy (As Mudra has inferred above) and that is also a good thing in relation to Yellowstone...
Have no Illusions - Death and Destruction has - Is - And will further occur but Yellowstone plus a few other scenarios are Game-enders if They happen so as long as these "other" scenarios DON'T happen - We're still moving forward...

Hello everyone. Thank you for your prayers and keeping the fire burning. Our member and her family in Japan are safe for now but split up. Hopefully they will be together soon.
Here is some more info from Hawaii.
Flooding in Kailua Kona Town, into businesses along Ali'i Drive. Probably other locations along the coastline, too.
Our friends are in Honolulu at Waikiki on the 12 floor with a good view of the tsunami. She reported that all of the ships left the harbor and were out and sea like a huge colorful armada and how beautiful it look. Some of the coastal roads are closed and some of the nurses on the other side of the island can't get into work.

Tsunami warning for most of U. S. west coast 7 AM Pacific Time 10 AM EST
This message keeps the warning and advisory regions fixed and adds new tsunami observations.
The Tsunami Warning continues in effect for the coastal areas of California and Oregon from Point Concepcion, California to the Oregon-Washington border.
The Tsunami Warning continues in effect for the coastal areas of Alaska from Amchitka Pass, Alaska (125 miles W of Adak) to Attu, Alaska.
The Tsunami Advisory continues in effect for the coastal areas of California from the California-Mexico border to Point Concepcion, California.
The Tsunami Advisory continues in effect for the coastal areas of Washington, British Columbia and Alaska from the Oregon-Washington border to Amchitka Pass, Alaska (125 miles W of Adak).
A Tsunami Warning means that all coastal residents in the warning area who are near the beach or in low-lying regions should move immediately inland to higher ground and away from all harbors and inlets including those sheltered directly from the sea. Those feeling the earth shake, seeing unusual wave action, or the water level rising or receding may have only a few minutes before the tsunami arrival and should move immediately. Homes and small buildings are not designed to withstand tsunami impacts. Do not stay in these structures.
All residents within the warned area should be alert for instructions broadcast from their local civil authorities. A tsunami has been recorded.
A Tsunami Advisory means that a tsunami capable of producing strong currents or waves dangerous to persons in or very near the water is expected. Significant, widespread inundation is not expected for areas under an advisory. Currents may be hazardous to swimmers, boats, and coastal structures and may continue for several hours after the initial wave arrival.
At 9:46 PM Pacific Standard Time on March 10, an earthquake with preliminary magnitude 8.9 occurred near the east coast of Honshu, Japan. (Refer to the United States Geological Survey for official earthquake parameters.) This earthquake has generated a tsunami which could cause damage to coastal regions in a warning or advisory.
