    The Chalice of Wisdom - Part 2 - Page 22 29248810

The Daily Quote from Rupert Spira, 19th February 2021

At the back of the mind is a doorway with the words ‘I am’ written above it. First, turn towards that doorway; then walk through it. Turning towards it is an activity of the mind; walking through it is the dissolution of the mind. That dissolution is the revelation of our essential nature of ever-present, unlimited awareness, the abode of peace, happiness and love.

When everything falls apart, we are impelled to find a deeper dharma. Not a dharma of words and paper but an inner dharma of the heart’s own truth. And perhaps this is the essence of what our human teachers, fallible as they may be, have been trying to tell us all along.

    The Chalice of Wisdom - Part 2 - Page 22 0e8cc110

    Exquisite 🙏🕊

    Lockdown Nights in Oxford
    - by Rupert Spira

Last night I walked the streets of Oxford with Kabir
The night before it was Jesus
And the night before, Rumi visited, uninvited!

Every night a different companion but always the same Friend
Why go anywhere when the Beloved always comes to you?

I pointed out the smiling houses to Kabir
(Have you noticed that houses have a face?)
‘It is I who am smiling’, he said.

‘I am happy to see you’, I said to Atmananda the next night
‘You are happiness itself’, he replied.

    I stood outside a chapel
And listened to a choir with Brother Lawrence
‘Our love for God is God’s love for us’, he said.

And the next night, Meister Eckhart,
‘There is a huge silence inside each of us
    That beckons us into itself’
‘Know nothing’, Socrates said the following night
    ‘Be everything’, added Parmenides.

    I showed Plotinus the gardens
But he said, ‘I see only one thing’
    I talked with the Buddha
    But he remained silent
    I was silent with Moses
    But he started to sing

    I uttered the word ‘I’
But Balyani held his hand to my mouth
I asked Huang Po if he could hear the stream
‘There is only the hearing’, he said.

I found William Blake naked in the park
‘Do you see how, through perception, the infinite gives birth to itself?’ he asked

    ‘He’s right’, Ramana said,
‘The universe is born every moment
    Through the portal I Am’
And later, when I suggested we rest,
‘I am always at rest’, he smiled

    ‘Thine this universal frame,
    Thus wondrous fair,
    Thyself how wondrous then?’
Milton asked ecstatically as we looked at the sky

‘Everything shines with being’, Wordsworth said
    I offered Jesus a drink
‘I am the water of life’, he said.

I walked in silence with Francis
‘My silence is my question’, I said
‘My silence is my answer’, he replied
    I walked alone one night
With the world for my Friend

The next night I found Hafiz drunk on a bench
‘Come taste this wine!’ he called
    Shams came to join us
‘I am looking for the Friend’, he sighed.

‘I love these night-time walks’, I said to Anandamaya Ma
    ‘Love only love’, she said
I listened to barking dogs with Abinavagupta
    ‘Know only knowing’, he said
    ‘I am…’
‘Shhh! Don’t add anything to it’,
    Sri Nisargadatta exclaimed.

I danced down the street with Mozart
I prayed in every step with Bach
I leaned with Primo Levi against a wall
Watching friends and lovers and strangers
‘Each of us’, he said ‘bears the imprint
    Of a friend met along the way;
In each the trace of each’

    Yeats joined us
‘There are no strangers here’, he said
‘Only friends we haven’t yet met’
    And Rembrandt agreed
‘If you look at anyone for long enough’, he said
They will eventually become your friend’

I watched the sun set with Shelley one night
‘The One remains, the many change and pass’, he said
And then, as the moon arose,
    ‘Heaven’s light forever shines, Earth’s shadows fly;
Life, like a dome of many-coloured glass,
Stains the white radiance of Eternity,
Until Death tramples it to fragments. Die,
If thou wouldst be with that which thou dost seek!’

And last night Rumi followed me home
‘Kiss the ground with every step’, he said
‘Good night’, I said, without words
‘We part without parting’, he smiled

..."They say within the eyes is the portal to our soul, some say they can see the sorrow and pain within those who hurt the most, no one said serving the world creates a life of non suffering, for non suffering only arises when we remember the true nature of our origin and purpose for living! Life is supposed to hurt, we witness a lot of pain in others and we experience it within ourself, for as they say all great spirits have to transcend the limitations of their perceived self, and the fact that we feel suffering only validates this reflective process! We each go through a cosmic seven year cycle, every cell in our body is being replaced since the moment we started breathing, science says we are completely different every seven years since we first started living. Sometimes we forget what we remember, sometimes we remember what we forget, and this resonance is felt within the collective pattern of consciousness. Sometimes we realize our prayers are heard and answered in ways not recognized as effective, sometimes we take for granted when things remain balanced, as we all want empowerment and to better our life, but we tend to forget that ascending to higher levels requires diving into our darkest ocean of counterparts. We cannot experience one extreme of polarity without witnessing the other, as even the ancient texts describe this very same process, once we realize pain leads to strength and our suffering leads to empowerment, then it makes the down waves in life feel as if even that too serves a greater purpose! There is no down playing how experiencing darkness can create suffering, there is no down playing on how inner loops can trigger depression...but we must not give up, for our efforts will leave a legacy that will inspire resonance beyond the darker ages! The pain and conditioning may feel like it lingers long in our life, we may feel as if we may never escape the patterns of suffering while we are living, but with each breath we have the ability to breathe just a little deeper and reach our true living potential!" ~Alistar Valadez

"The greatest and most important discovery in life – a discovery that anyone can make – is to discover that our essential nature does not share the limits nor the destiny of the body and mind; and that peace, happiness and love are ever-present within our own Being, completely available at every moment of experience, under all conditions."

    The Chalice of Wisdom - Part 2 - Page 22 4879d610

    Once, I ran from fear
    so fear controlled me.
Until I learned to hold fear like a newborn.
Listen to it, but not give in.
Honour it, but not worship it.
Fear could not stop me anymore.
I walked with courage into the storm.
    I still have fear,
but it does not have me.

Once, I was ashamed of who I was.
I invited shame into my heart.
    I let it burn.
It told me, "I am only trying
    to protect your vulnerability".
    I thanked shame dearly,
    and stepped into life anyway,
unashamed, with shame as a lover.

    Once, I had great sadness
    buried deep inside.
I invited it to come out and play.
I wept oceans. My tear ducts ran dry.
And I found joy right there.
Right at the core of my sorrow.
It was heartbreak that taught me how to love.

    Once, I had anxiety.
    A mind that wouldn't stop.
    Thoughts that wouldn't be silent.
So I stopped trying to silence them.
And I dropped out of the mind,
    and into the Earth.
    Into the mud.
    Where I was held strong
    like a tree, unshakeable, safe.

Once, anger burned in the depths.
I called anger into the light of myself.
    I felt its shocking power.
I let my heart pound and my blood boil.
    Listened to it, finally.
And it screamed, "Respect yourself fiercely now!".
    "Speak your truth with passion!".
"Say no when you mean no!".
    "Walk your path with courage!".
"Let no one speak for you!"
    Anger became an honest friend.
    A truthful guide.
    A beautiful wild child.

    Once, loneliness cut deep.
I tried to distract and numb myself.
Ran to people and places and things.
    Even pretended I was "happy".
But soon I could not run anymore.
And I tumbled into the heart of loneliness.
And I died and was reborn
into an exquisite solitude and stillness.
That connected me to all things.
So I was not lonely, but alone with All Life.
My heart One with all other hearts.

Once, I ran from difficult feelings.
Now, they are my advisors, confidants, friends,
and they all have a home in me,
and they all belong and have dignity.
    I am sensitive, soft, fragile,
my arms wrapped around all my inner children.
    And in my sensitivity, power.
In my fragility, an unshakeable Presence.

In the depths of my wounds,
in what I had named “darkness”,
    I found a blazing Light
that guides me now in battle.

    I became a warrior
    when I turned towards myself.

    And started listening.

    ~ Jeff Foster

This poem is stunning. Just wanted to share it. It is used in the Reform Jewish liturgy, as an optional reading, before Kaddish

”Every once in a while, a poem or song is so well constructed, so clearly conveys the authors meaning and is so precisely expressive that it becomes something of an anthem. The poem below, Epitaph, was written by Merrit Malloy and as one of those poems, has become a staple of funeral and memorial services…for good reason.”

    Epitaph - By Merrit Malloy

    When I die
Give what’s left of me away
    To children
And old men that wait to die.

And if you need to cry,
    Cry for your brother
    Walking the street beside you.
    And when you need me,
    Put your arms
    Around anyone
    And give them
What you need to give to me.

I want to leave you something,
    Something better
    Than words
    Or sounds.

    Look for me
    In the people I’ve known
    Or loved,
And if you cannot give me away,
At least let me live on in your eyes
    And not your mind.

    You can love me most
    By letting
    Hands touch hands,
    By letting bodies touch bodies,
    And by letting go
    Of children
    That need to be free.

    Love doesn’t die,
    People do.
So, when all that’s left of me
    Is love,
    Give me away.

    Enlightment revelations

    Eric Dubay
In Christian esotericism there are the concepts of 7 levels of heaven, 7 levels of hell, 7 deadly sins and 7 heavenly virtues which directly correspond with the 7 yoga chakras. For kundalini to rise the yogi cleanses and opens his chakras through a process of not only physiological, but also psychological self-development composed of 7 steps, each belonging to a physical location in the body. For example, the first root chakra related to security and survival when closed corresponds to the deadly sin of greed but when opened corresponds to the heavenly virtue of generosity. The second sacral chakra related to sexuality and relationships when closed corresponds to the deadly sin of lust, but when opened corresponds to the heavenly virtue of chastity. Thus a selfless person who sincerely and diligently develops all 7 virtues helps open themselves up to kundalini awakening and is allowed access to the 7 heavens, whereas a selfish person who completely and unremorsefully indulges in all 7 vices conversely closes themselves off from kundalini and finds themselves in hell.

The concept of 7 heavens and 7 hells is nearly ubiquitous in the world's religions. Judaism, Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, Jainism and Buddhism all reference this idea, and color it with connotations of the afterlife. In the microcosm we create our own personal heavens and hells based on our development of virtues or indulgence in vices. In the macrocosm these life choices and character traits are then corresponded with afterlife worlds, 7 ascending levels of heaven or 7 descending levels of hell depending on each individual's karma. For example in the ancient Mesopotamian religion, Earth was presented as a flat disk covered by 7 domes, each one containing different celestial bodies. These corresponded to the macroscopic 7 heavens, whereas the 7 chakras within the individual corresponded to the microscopic 7 heavens.

These also mesh and correspond quite well with Maslow's hierarchy of needs which place upon a series of steps the various physical, emotional, psychological, and spiritual necessities for a fully-developed fully-realized human-being. Just like the yoga chakra system and the esoteric Christian system, Maslow's hierarchy begins with base physiological needs like food and water at the bottom, then safety needs like being secure from danger. Near the heart chakra we find belonging needs like being loved and accepted, along with esteem needs like being recognized and respected. As we reach the higher chakras, we find cognitive needs like knowledge and exploration, as well as aesthetic needs like order and beauty. Then, once all the lower physical, emotional, and psychological needs have been met, finally the crown chakra of self-actualization, the spiritual work of finding self-fulfillment and realizing one's true potential can begin.

Just as the rising kundalini relates to the 7 virtues and 7 heavens, gnostic mystics like Samael Aun Weor and George Gurdjieff wrote of the "kundabuffer," and its relation to the 7 vices and 7 hells. Weor posited that just as virtuous practice causes the ascending serpent of kundalini to travel upwards from the apex of the sacrum, the negative indulgence in vices contrarily causes the descending kundabuffer serpent to travel downwards into the coccyx, the "tail of Satan." In his book "The Elimination of Satan's Tail" and many others, he details the parallels between Christianity and Yoga and describes the karmic self-development necessary to become a fully-realized and enlightened human-being.

Experience appears as a reflection of your point of view: from the point of view of a body, it is a collection of objects and selves; from the point of view of a mind, it is all thinking, sensing and perceiving; from the point of view of awareness, it is only awareness.

..."Take a closer look at life, for every-thing we see around us started as a thought! Your car, your house, your job, your community, your country, your friends, your name, your computer, your phone, your relationships, they ALL started as a thought. When a new thought arises within us, IT is either expanded upon and comes into fruition, or IT decays away just like a fading dream slipping through our fingers. We are either watching life pass us by, or we are actively taking part in the co-creation of our life, for IT is all about what we pull out from within us. As those who pull out nothing, they decay away faster than the midnight hour, while those who pull out the new, continuously walk the path of expanding their paradigm worldview! We work through this present moment to bring in new visions of inspiration, for life only becomes fantasy if we sit and 'think' about IT for far too often, as we need to reach out and co-create in this great lesson learning event we call living. As IT is said in ancient text, 'In the beginning was the word, then the word became flesh!' IT really can not get anymore clearer than that, as that 'word' was clearly a thought of conscious decision. We need to get out there and expand on our own imagination, to help bring in more new light and energy into this living realm. We all want change and great things in our lives, yet most of us just seek to settle and find a groove, there is enough dust to settle in this world, what we need are more fearless warrior spirits to get out there to shake things up in this realm...so the time has come to REACH for the stars, for the stars will not come down to You!" ~DMT/Alistar Valadez...

In each new age, the previous age persists, and within the previous age impulses from the ages preceding it. The series may reach back a very long way, but at a certain point continuity with the past is lost. Our memory as a species, our sense of vision and of guiding purpose, is weak, and indeed, grows weaker with each decade. In the nineteenth century, the memory of the medieval world was present in a way that it is not today. In the twentieth century the memory of the Renaissance still persists in our habits and our way of life, but the memory of the classical world and of classicism has nearly faded.

    GURDJIEFF TAPS INTO ANCIENT WISDOM

In the mid nineteenth century there were, in Asia Minor, strands of memory running back deep into the history of our family of civilisations, to Babylon and Chaldea. They were preserved over such vast spans of time because they were of value, and they were preserved by the work of school. George Gurdjieff connected with this thread, and with the knowledge he found, he opened up the fourth way. Not the centripetal force of ever increasing knowledge and ever more sophisticated technique, but a knowledge of basic things. The knowledge of the conditions of man’s connection to a higher level of creation. What could be of greater significance for us, and what has been more clearly disregarded in the politics and polity of our age? Out of this knowledge, out of this connection to historical memory came the vision of The Institute for the Harmonious Development of Man.
Man, as he is, does not have the wherewithal to bridge this interval; his ‘collective memory’ is little more than the prime years of his life. The politics, policies, and programmes of the various national governments are reactive, in the sense that they represent responses to short-term issues. Ideologies, such as Liberalism, Socialism, Fascism, and Communism, have a longer life because they develop out of the fundamental social issues of a period, and are driven by those issues until the opposition or polarity is exhausted. They are not an expression of man’s cumulative best understanding of what is possible for him, individually or collectively. Religion is not innocent of this charge. The meaning of direction of a religion changes from one generation to the next. Christianity today would be almost unrecognisable to a Christian in the first century AD. What continuity there is, is given by problems and issues that are continuous. The organisations which serve as the carriers of religious beliefs are driven by rivalry, by the struggle for power and position, by material interests of one kind or another.

    GURDJIEFF’S EXPRESSION OF ANCIENT WISDOM

No one would have seen this more clearly than Gurdjieff. The Caucasus was a collection of populations displaced and relocated by war. It was a place of hardship, emotional and instinctive. It was also a place that offered a view of some of the greatest traditions in human civilisation and culture (beginning with the very bardic songs of Gurdjieff’s father). The contrast was extreme.

. "The reason we all experience the same world is not that there is a world made of matter appearing outside Consciousness. It is because each of our finite minds is precipitated within the same infinite Consciousness. It is because our minds share Consciousness that we feel we share the world.
When we wake up from a dream, we understand that we were not a self in the dream, but rather that the entire dream took place in us. Similarly, when we wake up from the ‘dream’ of everyday life, we discover that Consciousness is not in the body, but that the entire body, mind and world are in Consciousness."

When you come to the edge of all the light you know and are about to step into the darkness of the unknown. Faith is knowing that one of two things will happen. There will be solid ground to stand on or you will be taught to fly...

"Consciousness is Immortal.“ | An In-Depth Interview with Tom Campbell
Tom Campbell is a former NASA physicist and large systems analyst turned consciousness researcher.

Next to his technology–centric career, he joined the team of volunteering  research subjects around Robert Munroe, where they volitionally induced and systematically investigated phenomena of paranormal nature like e.g. out–of–body experiences, remote viewing, telepathy to name the most prominent.

In his trilogy "My Big TOE" (TOE: Theory of Everything) he describes the nature of our larger reality, provides a complete theory of consciousness, and explains our purpose and connection to that larger reality. Along the way, Mr. Campbell derives a more fundamental science that directly answers the most pressing problems and paradoxes of modern physics.
