5) The “Novichok” programme was in Uzbekistan not in Russia. Its legacy was inherited by the Americans during their alliance with Karimov, not by the Russians.

Facebook Advertisers Start Pulling Out

"Mozilla is pressing pause on our Facebook advertising. When Facebook takes stronger action in how it shares customer data, specifically strengthening its default privacy settings for third party apps, we’ll consider returning."

Facebook advertisers have threatened to abandon the platform in the wake of a massive data harvesting scandal which began after it was revealed that an app created by two psychologists - one of whom Facebook employs - gathered data on over 50 million Americans and then sold it to political data firm Cambridge Analytics and several others, who used it without consent.

Mark Zuckerberg, co-founder and CEO of the social media giant gave several interviews Wednesday after spending three days in hiding, ostensibly with a crisis management team which advised him not give wholly unsatisfactory answers to one of the largest data breaches in history.

The scandal is pushing some Facebook advertisers to consider dropping the platform, reports The Times.

ISBA, a British group of advertisers that spend hundreds of millions of pounds a year on Facebook, demanded answers. It is understood that some of its 3,000 brands, which include those of the consumer goods companies Unilever and P&G, will not tolerate association with Facebook if it emerges that users’ data has found its way into the hands of brokers and political campaigners without authorisation. Sources close to the trade body said that if the company’s answers were not satisfactory, advertisers might spend their money elsewhere. ISBA will meet Facebook executives this week.

Others, such as Mozilla - the company behind the Firefox browser - have already pulled out, or as it said have "pressed pause" on Facebook advertising. In a scathing post, Mozilla said that "when Facebook takes stronger action in how it shares customer data, specifically strengthening its default privacy settings for third party apps, we’ll consider returning." Until then, "Mozilla will advertise elsewhere" as it warned in a blog post this morning:

Mozilla is pressing pause on our Facebook advertising. Facebook knows a great deal about their two billion users — perhaps more intimate information than any other company does. They know everything we click and like on their site, and know who our closest friends and relationships are. Because of its scale, Facebook has become one of the most convenient platforms to reach an audience for all companies and developers, whether a multibillion corporation or a not-for-profit.

We understand that Facebook took steps to limit developer access to friends’ data beginning in 2014. This was after Facebook started its relationship with Cambridge University Professor Aleksandr Kogan, whose decision to share data he collected from Facebook with Cambridge Analytica is currently in the news. This news caused us to take a closer look at Facebook’s current default privacy settings given that we support the platform with our advertising dollars. While we believe there is still more to learn, we found that its current default settings leave access open to a lot of data – particularly with respect to settings for third party apps.

We are encouraged that Mark Zuckerberg has promised to improve the privacy settings and make them more protective. When Facebook takes stronger action in how it shares customer data, specifically strengthening its default privacy settings for third party apps, we’ll consider returning.

Meanwhile, Facebook shares remain under rising pressure - falling approximately 8.6% in three trading sessions and down again on Thursday premarket as investors - particularly "ethical" investment funds - reconsider their decision to hold the increasingly radioactive company.

Nordea, the largest bank in the Nordic region, which manages about £283 billion (~$400 billion USD), said that it had put some of its Facebook investments in “quarantine” while it assessed the scandal. Union Investment, a German group that manages about £255 billion ($360 billion USD), said that it was reviewing its holding of Facebook shares. -The Times

Investors have also launched several lawsuits against Facebook, claiming that the company made "false and misleading statements" regarding its privacy policies and who they share data with.

What Wall Street Thinks Of Zuckerberg's "Crisis Response"

"There was nothing that could be said to appease the most vocal critics, mainstream backlash will persist as Cambridge Analytica remains in the headlines, and we would expect some impact to near-term platform usage" - BofA, When it comes to Zuckerberg's breathless media whirlwind "damage control" tour on Wednesday night after three days of bizarre silence as his company was getting skewered for the Cambridge Analytics scandal, the market is mixed: after trading down as much as 3% lower, Facebook's stock has managed to recoup all losses, and was trading fractionally in the green...

... after sliding 11% this week.

What about Wall Street analysts?

Here. too, the reaction has been split on what Zuckerberg’s response last night on its data security crisis means for the stock.

Leading the bear parade was BofA's Justin Post, who cut his FB price target to $230 from $265 and said that "usage trends may be hurt by the crisis and subsequent negative press."

On the other end of the spectrum, were the bulls from Piper Jaffray and Cowen who advised to use the BTFD opportunity to load up as this is nothing more than a tempest in a teacup (although as we noted earlier, some advertisers are already pulling away from the social media behemoth).

As a keen sailor, I have more than a passing interest in from where the wind is blowing. There are a number of things to bear in mind about tailwinds; i) they get you where you expect to go faster – meaning we shouldn’t neglect thinking about how this Goldilocks recovery ends.

And, ii) sailing downwind (ie tailwinds) can prove the most dangerous point of sail – things can go from smooth and stable to disaster in frighteningly short moments as a result of a sudden windshift causing a crash-gybe to flick the crew into the water, or the mast to come tumbling down. I’ve attached a photo showing just how bad tailwind sailing can go….

Paul Ryan’s budget bill aimed to fund:

** Planned Parenthood
** Central American illegal immigrant centers
** Domestic spending will increase
** No cuts in funding to EPA despite Trump’s promises
** Continue payment on Obamacare subsidies
** No funding cuts to sanctuary cities

But the House budget includes language that FORBIDS the President of the United States of building a border wall with Mexico.

The Washington Post reported:

There are explicit restrictions to block the border wall. We knew last week there would be no money to start construction on a project that the president says is more important to his base than anything else. But the final agreement goes further, putting strict limitations on how Trump can use new money for border security (e.g. to invest in new technology and repair existing fencing). Administration officials have insisted they already have the statutory authority to start building the wall under a 2006 law. This prevents such an end run.

The $1.5 billion for border security is also half as much as the White House requested. Additionally, there are no cuts in funding to sanctuary cities, something a federal judge said last week would be required for the Justice Department to follow through on its threats. And there is also no money for a deportation force.

The 2018 omnibus bill, which funds Sanctuary Cities, Planned Parenthood and parts of Obamacare, sent the base into a rage. Infowars editor-at-large Paul Joseph Watson compiled tweets from top conservatives expressing anger over the bill.

“It might be my memory, or maybe I’m just getting hard of hearing, but I don’t recall chants of “dramatically increase military funding” and “protect dreamers” at Trump’s campaign events,” YouTuber Stefan Molyneux tweeted.

Crooked and corrupt Assistant US AG Rod Rosenstein is holding a cyber law enforcement announcement today where’s he’s expected to announce that the corrupt Mueller investigation is taking over the Guccifer 2 investigation. But Guccifer (1) says that Guccifer 2 is a creation of the NSA and US State Department!?!

In August of 2017, the Eastern European hacker known as “Guccifer” reached out to US reporters from prison in Romania to claim that Guccifer 2.0 is a scheme orchestrated by the National Security Agency and US State Department.

Guccifer, whose real name is Marcel Lehel Lazar, was arrested in 2014 for hacking Hillary Clinton’s former political aide Sidney Blumenthal. Lazar first revealed to the world that Clinton was using a non-secure private email address while serving as the US Secretary of State.

Lazar admitted to accessing personal email and social media accounts of approximately 100 American citizens by using Russian proxy servers because they were “the fastest.” In 2016 he was sentenced to 52 months in US prison after he finishes a seven-year sentence in Romania for hacking crimes committed there.

Lazar told Fox News senior executive producer Pamela Browne that –

…he believed Guccifer 2.0, the hacker behind multiple US Democratic National Committee (DNC) leaks, to be a fabrication by the US government — an “inside job.” He said the idea came from one of his State Department handlers during his extradition plane ride to the US in spring 2016. The government employee, assigned to make sure Lazar arrived safely to an American jail, mentioned: “What would your opinion be if another Guccifer showed up?”

“I think Guccifer two-zero is something made from some guys at the State Department. Some guys from the cyber command of the NSA, and some guys from the Vault, Vault 7 of the CIA…I’m in this business for sort of 15 years now, this is my take,” Lazar said.

Guccifer argued that –

“The Russians are more skillful than this to let tracks in the documents [point] to them…so this is made by the other guys who wanted [to point] to the Russians.”

In an exclusive interview with FOX’s Catherine Herridge in May of 2016, Romanian hacker “Guccifer” said that he hacked Hillary Clinton’s server and that it was easy. The 44-year-old Lazar said he first compromised Clinton confidant Sidney Blumenthal’s AOL account, in March 2013, and used that as a stepping stone to the Clinton server.

Guccifer told Herridge that from evidence he came across there were at least 10 other groups or individuals who also breached Hillary’s private server.

Will Crooked Rosenstein and Mueller mention today that Guccifer 2 is make believe just like Trump-Russia collusion? Will they note that at least 10 entities or individuals obtained access to Hillary Clinton’s private server?
