    Former FBI director James Comey made a quiet visit to The New York Times on Thursday, one of few public outings since he admitted leaking stories to the newspaper about President Trump before the Senate Intelligence Committee on June 8.

    Comey kept his sunglasses on and his gaze forward as he marched through the front entrance of the Times Square office building which houses the publication. He was accompanied by his wife Patrice Failor who also wore sunglasses. It was a timely visit, coming just a few weeks after the president's suggestion that he may be responsible for more leaks about the administration since being fired on May 9.

    The president, maintaining that Comey was fired for his handling of a prior investigation into Hillary Clinton's use of a private email server during her time as Secretary of State, is focused on the leak and has suggested his belief that it was one of many.

    - Does anyone remember after the election the hacking that went on in Georgia and some other states, they did not come from Russian they came from none other than the US government, I think they said DHS or some group as this?

    OMAHA, Ne (FOX42KPTM) - A Nebraska Democratic Party official is now in hot water. An audio recording was posted on YouTube Thursday with Phil Montag, a technology chairman, voicing how glad he was Louisiana Congressman Steve Scalise got shot last week at a baseball practice. Nebraska Democratic Party chairwoman Jane Kleeb confirmed to FOX 42 News Thursday it was really his voice.

    "His whole job is to get people, convince Republicans to (expletive) kick people off (expletive) health care. I'm glad he got shot," said Montag in the audio recording.

    Montag is now looking for a new job. Kleeb let him go after the recording became public.

    The Senate Judiciary Committee has launched an investigation into what former Attorney General Loretta Lynch may have done in 2016 to influence an FBI investigation related to Hillary Clinton's classified email scandal.

    Lynch was widely criticized for meeting with former president Bill Clinton on an airport tarmac last summer while his wife was under criminal investigation for mishandling classified materials.

    Mrs. Clinton, a former secretary of state and at that time the Democratic White House nominee, kept her State Department work emails on a private email server at her home, obscuring them from government record-keepers.

    She was ultimately not prosecuted even though thousands of classified emails were later recovered from the server.

    Former Attorney General Loretta Lynch is now the subject of a U.S. Senate inquest into whether she held back the FBI from a hard-charging probe of Hillary Clinton's classified emails. Clinton, who was at the time the Democratic presidential nominee, was let off the hook for the copious classified materials found on her private email server.

    The Senate committee asked Lynch in a letter on Thursday to describe her involvement in the Clinton probe. Both Republicans and Democrats in the committee's leadership signed it.

    The letter cites an April 22 New York Times story that describes a memo 'written by a Democratic operative who expressed confidence that Ms. Lynch would keep the Clinton investigation from going too far.'

    That document, the Times reported, was recovered from Russian hackers who were unaware the FBI could see what they had taken from U.S. networks.

    The Washington Post described in May 'a Russian intelligence document' that 'cited a supposed email describing how then-Attorney General Loretta E. Lynch had privately assured someone in the Clinton campaign that the email investigation would not push too deeply into the matter.'

    James Comey, the fired FBI director, told Congress last month that Lynch's involvement in the case was one factor that pushed him to go public with his knowledge of Clinton's activities. Fired FBI Director James Comey said during his May 3 Senate testimony that he was prodded to come forward last July with his findings about Clinton in part because he feared Lynch's activity could compromise his agency's independence.

    'A number things had gone on, some of which I cannot talk about yet,' he said, that made me worry that the Department leadership could not credibly complete the investigation and decline prosecution without grievous damage to the American people's confidence in the justice system.'

    Former DNC Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz accused former DHS chief Jeh Johnson of lying under oath when he claimed the DNC refused the help of the FBI and DHS after their computer systems were invaded.

    As TGP previously reported, former DNC Chairwoman, Debbie Wasserman Schultz, said Wednesday that neither the FBI nor any other government agency contacted her about the hacking of the DNC’s computer networks, The Washington Examiner reports.

    Debbie Wasserman Schultz’s claims that she was never contacted by any government agency about supposed hacking of the DNC’s computer systems directly contradicts former DHS chief, Jeh Johnson’s testimony before the House Intelligence Committee earlier Wednesday.

    Debbie Wasserman Schultz rolled her eyes as CNN’s Kate Bolduan brought up Jeh Johnson’s testimony where he claimed that the DNC was contacted by the FBI and offered to help them with cybersecurity.

    Wasserman Schultz: “He’s wrong in every respect. Let me be very clear. At no point during my tenure at the DNC was I contacted by the FBI, DHS, or any government agency or alerted or made aware that they believed that the Russians, an enemy state was intruding on our network.”

    Wasserman Schultz reiterated, “Respectfully, Secretary Johnson is utterly misinformed. The FBI and other federal agencies did virtually nothing to make sure that when…there was concern that there was an intrusion on our network by the Russians, that they did virtually nothing to sound the alarm bells.”

    The Daily Caller points out that Wasserman Schultz’s statements conflict with those of former DNC vice chairwoman Donna Brazile, who admitted that federal officials had been in contact with them regarding hacking.

    “I talked to the general counsel of the DNC today and he assures me that every step along the way when we were notified of these issues that we changed systems, changed procedures,” Brazile told CNN last summer. “…at no time did we ignore the warning from the FBI or any other federal officials.”

    Something isn’t adding up. Either someone is lying, or the Democrats are just too inept to run anything. Either way, they are not fit to run a country.

    My response: My best guess in this scenario, (and it is only a guess) is that both ships got hacked. The Fitzgerald may have a form of Stuxnet on it. A simple hack on the cargo ship would be all that would be needed for it, but the Fitzgerald would need to have many systems get corrupted at once to make this happen.

    My best guess is that the Fitzgerald had an infection that spoofed radar and other readings, to make it look like there was nothing there so no action was taken, and that even the engines on the Fitzgerald were under remote control to put it in exactly the right place to get hit. The hit could not have been worse. It was a PERFECT hit. Figure the odds, I think that was arranged and no one on the Fitzgerald knew it.

    The container ship should have also had collision avoidance, at least sirens to wake the crew, and NADA. It was modern, and all the ships have that. I do not believe the collision happened by accident. By remote? Probably.

    Freemont data center outage probably CIA/NSA related
    There was an outage of a major data center in Fremont California a couple days ago. I knew about this, but let it slide because I figured it was just another mundane occurrence. But it appears that was not the case. Apparently, someone probably used a virus like Stuxnet to prevent the backup power from coming online, at the same time another attack on the servers was launched to destroy their data integrity, shortly before the main power was commanded to shut off, to provide plausibility for the loss of data. SEE THIS:

    Chris Kitze here. Reporting something very strange happening at a data center we use in Fremont, CA for hosting some news and other sites. There was a massive power outage a couple of nights ago, right around the time of the big heat spike in the Bay Area. Some local towns reported up to 111F heat, which is a lot for around here.

    Anyway the data center completely lost power. As you know, for professional data centers, this is unheard of because of all the backup UPS, generators, etc. they have online. I can't remember something like this for well over 20 years, they pretty much solved all these problems.

    Here is what is odd. The outage happened at midnight, after things had cooled off. Normally, peak power demand is in the late afternoon, while businesses are still open and everyone is cranking on their air con. The other odd thing was all the various databases that got corrupted. This wasn't like a normal power outage, it apparently spiked and did some damaging things to electronics and trashed a number of database servers. One of the teams involved with anti-blocking technology (can't say more here) had all 40 of their databases get trashed and they all had to be rebuilt. We've never seen anything like this and it was targeted to our block, apparently. Let people know even the data centers are no longer safe places to host things, they are now being targeted, too."

    My comment: I'd bet with near certainty there was no power spike and what you just saw was a full scale false flag cyber attack that used the ruse of a power outage and surge to destroy a target with a database hack and wipe. The regulators in a computer's power supply are simply too good for a spike to get all the way through to a hard disk and cause it to write and corrupt data, if a spike was that bad there would have been multiple explosions and complete destruction of hardware on a massive scale. If all that was lost is data, this was an NSA/CIA/Dimona initiated false flag incident, and nothing else.

    This is not a guess, I have the background needed to authoratively state this. Most likely the targeted computers had "database problems" a a minute or so before someone cut the power and no one noticed it that fast.

    A number of watchdog-group reports and news stories have revealed the serious deficiencies that exist are blamed on Obama’s CIA director John Brennan for allowing what was supposed to be a non-political bureaucracy into a politically-motivated subsidiary of the Democratic National Committee.

    While the investigation of alleged collusion between the Trump for President campaign and operatives working for Russia’s President Vladimir Putin does not appear to be bearing fruit, it does prove how easily computer hackers have exposed classified intelligence from the once premiere spy network.

    In fact, according to a number of reports coming from watchdogs such as Judicial Watch, the Clarion Project, Larry Klayman’s Freedom Watch, and others, the CIA and FBI have conceded that it may have been insiders illegally divulging classified information and that the CIA is currently searching for the traitorous leakers.

    In addition, the former Director of Central Intelligence, John Brennan, allegedly worked feverishly to undermine Donald Trump’s presidential campaign by leaking intelligence obtained from Great Britain and European Union countries. It’s already been revealed that a British top-secret signal-intelligence agency sent reports to Obama or his minions who then leaked them to the world’s news media.

    “During former FBI Director James Comey’s testimony in front of the Senate, he actually admitted he leaked information. In fact, the coward didn’t have the b*lls to do it himself — he had a professor-friend leak the info,” according to former attorney and political consultant Theo Doreapoulos.

    According to Trump insider, Roger Stone, “[T]he standard operating procedure for the intelligence agencies is that they go to a third-party nation and they ask them to conduct the surveillance so that the CIA can play dumb. So they have not violated the law, technically. Judge Napolitano turns out to be absolutely right and I think folks at FOX management, owe him an apology. I want to learn more about this because I still think we are going to learn that the ‘deep state,’ the 17 intelligence agencies, have promulgated this myth of Russian collusion because it is the rationale they used to surveil Donald Trump and his aides. And that would mean that there is no Russian collusion proven, and their motive was solely political. That’s Watergate times  10.”  

    “While opponents of President Trump have become emboldened in the wake of General Flynn’s resignation as the National Security Adviser, and while the media has reveled in a frenzy of self-righteous outrage that conceals its glee, it is important to observe that his resignation was sparked by leaked information coming from unelected bureaucrats within our nation’s intelligence apparatus, seemingly provoked by their deep distaste for the new administration. Even more ominously, some of these bureaucrats are perhaps motivated by their loyalties to the Obama administration,” said Jay Sekulow, a public-interest attorney who often argues cases before the U.S. Supreme Court.

    Attorney Jay Sekulow is part of the Trump team fighting the lies and accusations made by Democratic Party bigwigs and their news media puppets.

    Sekulow also said, “Someone in the Obama Administration unmasked the names of those on the Trump transition team who were caught up in that surveillance. That someone was discovered to be Susan Rice who served Obama as the national security adviser and gained a reputation as a dishonest political hack and liar.”

    “Now we know this goes far beyond incidental surveillance. This was spying on political enemies,” he added.

    “Mr. Brennan is, at best, willfully blind to the threat posed to homeland and national security of the United States by those who adhere to Shariah law,” said Tom Trento, director of Florida Security Council, who has been critical of Brennan’s service in the Obama White House.

    Some of the nation’s top intelligence, military, national security and law enforcement experts once loudly called for Homeland Security Advisor John Brennan to resign from his post or for President Barack Obama to fire Brennan from his White House staff.

    During a press conference in September 2010 at the National Press Club in Washington, DC on Thursday, respected experts, including officials from the Florida Security Council, told reporters that because of Brennan’s adherence to the politically-correct orthodoxy that permeates the Obama administration the U.S. government is being prevented from identifying, understanding and countering radical Muslims and their threat of imposing Sharia law.

    Frank Gaffney, a former Assistant Secretary of Defense during the Reagan administration, and others claim that Sharia is a supremacist, totalitarian legal doctrine that leads to terrorism, torture, abuse of women and young girls, and other horrors.

    Under Obama, the intel community has become ineffective in protecting the U.S. but effective on spying on Americans.

    A major piece of evidence that points to the dangers associated with Brennan’s failure to perform his primary function – to know the enemy and its threat doctrine – came to light when analysts at the Florida Security Council discovered that a known Hamas operative and unindicted co-conspirator in the largest terrorism financing trial in U.S. history (Holy Land Foundation), Sheik Kifah Mustapha,participated in a six-week-long, government-sponsored “Citizens Academy” hosted by the FBI as part of its outreach to the Muslim community.

    During the six-week FBI program, Mustapha – a man tied to an officially designated terrorist organization – was escorted into the top secret National Counterterrorism Center and other secure government facilities, including the FBI National Academy located on the Quantico, Virginia U.S. Marine Base.

    Terrorism expert Steve Emerson, director of the Investigative Project on Terrorism, exposed Mustapha’s appointment in Illinois to a post as a State Police chaplain. However, according to Illinois officials, the appointment was revoked in spite of the protests of the Council on American-Islamic Relations.

    “Deputy National Security Advisor John Brennan must resign his post immediately,” said Mr. Gaffney, whose Center for Security Policy released a report entitled, Shariah: The Threat to America.

    “Mr. Brennan is, at best, willfully blind to the threat posed to the homeland and national security of the United States by those who adhere to shariah. In the wake of this recent episode at the National Counterterrorism Center, in which the FBI gave a guided tour of one of our most sensitive counter-terrorism facilities to a known Hamas operative, it is clear that the cluelessness fostered by Mr. Brennan is causing an empowering of the wrong sorts of Muslims in America – and endangering the American people,” said Gaffney to reporters.

    Angry Dems Turn On Obama, Pelosi, Schumer: "Talk Less About Russia"

    It’s been a rough week for the legacy of the Obama administration. Yesterday, the Senate Judiciary Committee launched a Democrat-endorsed probe into former Attorney General Loretta Lynch’s conduct during the campaign – when it’s widely believed she colluded with the Clinton’s to “soften” the FBI’s probe into Hillary’s mishandling of classified information. Earlier, sure-thing Democratic neophyte Jon Ossoff lost a special election in Georgia that he was supposedly guaranteed to win, leading America’s least—preferred party of overly brazen corporatists to an embarrassing 5-0 defeat, and stoking calls for Nancy Pelosi - the Dem’s longtime leader in Congress - to step aside.

    And as if all that wasn’t enough, revelations that Russian hackers targeted voting systems in 21 states – and the Obama administration did nothing about it – have inspired the president’s fellow Democrats to turn on their once-revered leader.

    As the Hill reports, Democrats are criticizing no-drama Obama for being too cautious with his disclosures about “the Russia problem” in the run-up to the 2016 election, claiming that he shouldn't have hesitated to inform the public about the allegations:

    “The Obama administration is under fresh scrutiny for its response to Russian meddling in the election after new details emerged this week about how the White House weighed its actions against the 2016 political environment.

    Then-President Obama was too cautious in the months leading up to the election, frustrated Democratic lawmakers and strategists say.

    “It was inadequate. I think they could have done a better job informing the American people of the extent of the attack,” said Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.), a member of the House Intelligence Committee who co-chairs the Democratic Steering and Policy Committee."

    Meanwhile, Ohio Democrat Tim Ryan, who recently challenged Pelosi for leadership of the party, is leading a small group of Congressional Dems in criticizing Chuck Schumer, Pelosi and the rest of the Democratic leadership's irrational focus on the Russia investigations. Ryan believes the focus on making the Dems appear out of touch to working Americans who care more about economic issues than the Trump witch hunt, as the Hill reports. Ryan's attempt to lead from behind comes as some of his peers push for the creation of a 9/11-style Commission to launch what would be the fourth investigation into the Trump campaign.

    Even though the contradiction here is obvious - Dems are complaining that the party is too focused on Russia, while criticizing Obama for not releasing more scurrilous details about alleged interference -at least Ryan recognizes that the focus on Russia will hurt the Dems where it counts: In next year's midterms.

    "We can't just talk about Russia because people back in Ohio aren't really talking that much about Russia, about Putin, about Michael Flynn,” Rep. Tim Ryan (D-Ohio) told MSNBC Thursday. “They're trying to figure out how they're going to make the mortgage payment, how they're going to pay for their kids to go to college, what their energy bill looks like.

    “And if we don't talk more about their interest than we do about how we're so angry with Donald Trump and everything that's going on,” he added, “then we're never going to be able to win elections.”

    Turning back to Obama, the president's motives in withholding the information definitely leave room for speculation. Was he worried that the public would interpret the disclosure as transparent fear mongering intended to benefit the Clinton campaign – or maybe he thought it would make the Democrats and Clinton look ineffectual in the face of a problem that couldn’t be solved with a couple of well-timed drone strikes? For what it's worth, former Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson says Obama withheld the information because he didn’t want to play into Trump’s claims that the election was being “rigged.”

    “One of the candidates, as you'll recall, was predicting that the election was going to be rigged in some way,” Johnson said. “And so we were concerned that, by making the statement, we might in and of itself be challenging the integrity of the election process itself.”

    Trump had repeatedly claimed that the outcome of the election would be “rigged” against him, alleging widespread voter fraud and inaccurate polling. He provided no evidence to back up his claims, but critics feared that his rhetoric could undermine public trust in the outcome of the election.

    In any event, Obama’s decision to withhold the information has made the Dems look weak, desperate and disorganized. And now they’re rightfully worried that the administration’s countermeasures – kicking out a few dozen diplomats – have helped them lose what little credibility they still had in the eyes of the public. Meanwhile, President Trump has a few questions of his own;

    'Some Republicans argue the Obama administration only started to take the Russia threat seriously after President Trump had won the election.

    Trump has called the influence operation a “hoax” and dismissed the various inquiries into Russian interference in the election — which include looking for possible collusion between his campaign and Moscow — as a “witch hunt.”

    “By the way, if Russia was working so hard on the 2016 Election, it all took place during the Obama Admin. Why didn't they stop them?” Trump tweeted Thursday.

    The Obama administration announced on Oct. 7 that the theft and release of the Democratic National Committee (DNC) emails was part of a widespread campaign “intended to interfere with the U.S. election process.”

    So what’s next for the Dems? Obama, who has already pivoted from politician to social-media celebrity, will probably continue to chime in every now and then from the peanut gallery. Meanwhile, we wait to see if the DOJ or any other interested parties piggy-back on the Senate’s investigation into Lynch’s blatant attempt at obstruction, and wonder: Could this be the controversy that leads to the unraveling of the modern Democratic Party?

    A longtime confidant of fired FBI Director James Comey sent out a cryptic tweet suggesting that a bombshell story about Comey and his interactions with President Trump could soon drop.

    Benjamin Wittes, a senior fellow at the Brookings Institution, posted an ominous message on Twitter on Friday: “TICK TICK TICK TICK TICK TICK.”

    The lawyer, who blogs at Lawfare, has posted similar messages in the past just before major stories in the ongoing Trump-Comey saga hit The New York Times.

    Wittes wrote on Twitter that the upcoming story could be published later Friday or on Monday. The heads-up comes a day after Trump revealed that he was bluffing last month when he suggested that he had recorded his conversations with Comey.

If he was smart he told Sessions that he did not want to know if there were recordings specifically of the president seized from Comey's office.

    They may be allowing Comey to keep digging the hole from which he will never be extricated, not by himself or any of the swamp creatures.     Three Republican House Oversight Committee members on Friday called for an investigation into former FBI Director James Comey and Special Counsel Robert Mueller for acting in a partisan manner and applying double standards when it came to the Obama and Trump administrations.

    Reps. Jim Jordan (OH), Mark Meadows (NC), and Jody Hice (GA) said Comey misled the American people last year when he agreed to then-Attorney General Loretta Lynch’s request that he call an investigation into Hillary Clinton a “matter” instead of an investigation.

    “He did it willfully. He did it intentionally. And he did it at the direction of Attorney General Loretta Lynch,” they wrote in a piece published on foxnews.com.

    They also said Comey misled the American people in the early weeks of the Trump administration by “furthering the perception that President Trump was under investigation, when in fact he was not.”

    “He again did this willfully and intentionally,” they wrote.

    They also pointed out that Comey recently admitted having a friend leak one of his memos detailing a private conversation he had with Trump, after Trump fired him.

    Comey admitted doing so to spark the appointment of a special counsel for the investigation into Russian interference and any collusion with the Trump campaign.

    That person appointed was Robert Mueller — Comey’s “mentor and predecessor,” they wrote.

    “The American people want justice to be blind. They want equal justice and equal protection for everyone. But Mr. Comey’s actions continue to call his impartiality, and the impartiality of the Holder and Lynch Justice departments, into question,” they said.

    They pointed out that on May 7, 2014, the House passed a resolution calling for a special counsel to investigate the IRS targeting of conservatives for their political beliefs.

    “Comey and Attorney General Eric Holder blocked the appointment. This despite the fact that the lead investigator they assigned to the case, Barbara Bosserman, was a max-out contributor to President Obama’s reelection campaign,” they wrote.

    “This is the type of unequal justice that Americans despise. No special counsel in the IRS targeting investigation. No special counsel for the Clinton email investigation. But if it’s about protecting Comey’s reputation and hurting President Trump, then of course there has to be a special counsel,” they said.

    They said throughout 2015 and 2016, there were calls from Congress for a special counsel for the Clinton email scandal, but the Justice Department refused, even after it was revealed that Lynch had met privately with Bill Clinton.

    They also said Mueller’s impartiality was questionable. Four weeks after the Treasury’s inspector general released a report on the IRS targeting scandal and the Justice Department began their investigation into it, Mueller could not even answer basic questions about the investigation during testimony.

    “Investigating the targeting of conservatives by the IRS, which was the biggest story in the news at the time, was clearly not a priority for Mr. Mueller. As FBI director, he didn’t even know who was doing what,” they wrote.

    In contrast, Mueller has handpicked a team of investigators for the Trump investigation.

    “You’d better believe Mr. Mueller has handpicked the exact team he wants,” they wrote. They said that team included:

    James Quarles, a partner at WilmerHale, was a $10,000 contributor to House and Senate Democrats. He also has a long history of supporting Democratic presidential candidates, including Dukakis, Gore, Kerry, Obama and Clinton.
    Jeannie Rhee, a senior adviser to former Attorney General Eric Holder, was an Obama and Clinton supporter. She also represented the Clinton foundation in litigation, and personally represented Hillary Clinton.
    Andrew Weissmann, a former Justice Department official, was also an Obama contributor.
    Elizabeth Prelogar, a former law clerk for Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Elena Kagan, donated to both the Obama and Clinton presidential campaigns.

    So far, they said, of the dozen people named to Mueller’s team, “none have similarly supported Republican presidential candidates.”

    “The House has a responsibility to defend the deeply-held American principle of equal justice under the law. That’s why we believe it’s time for the House to have hearings on the troubling matter of the motivation and organization of this investigation,” they wrote.

    “The past actions of Mr. Mueller and Mr. Comey as part of the Holder and Lynch justice departments call into question their impartiality. If this investigation is to be taken seriously, it is important that the American people get the answers they deserve.”

    All three congressmen are members of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee. Meadows is the chairman of the House Freedom Caucus.

    The Senate Judiciary Committee announced Friday it sent four investigatory letters, including one to former Attorney General Loretta Lynch.

    The letters, dated Thursday and signed by the committee’s bipartisan leadership, demand answers and documents related to the 2016 investigation into Hillary Clinton’s private email server, especially reports that Clinton campaign operatives expressed confidence Lynch would keep that investigation from “going too far.”

    The demand comes as the Judiciary Committee investigates the circumstances surrounding the dismissal of ex-FBI Director James Comey, in which the material may take on a new significance.

    The New York Times reported this April that not only had Lynch told then-Director Comey in September of 2015 to refer to the investigation of Secretary Clinton and her staff as a “matter,” but that the Justice Department  obtained a Russian document in March 2016 showing a “Democratic operative” expressing “confidence that Ms. Lynch would keep the Clinton investigation from going too far.”

    The Washington Post followed up in May, calling the document “dubious” but identifying it as a Russian report on an alleged email between Democratic National Committee Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz and Leonard Bernardo, the Eurasia Director of leftist billionaire George Soros’s infamous Open Societies Foundations. The Russian report is said to have claimed Wasserman Schultz assured Bernardo that Attorney General Lynch had been in contact with senior Clinton staffer Amanda Renteria and told the campaign the investigation would not go too far.

    According to a press release from Judiciary Committee Chairman Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA), the investigatory letters come “as the Judiciary Committee is examining the circumstances surrounding the removal of James Comey as FBI Director.” Lynch, Renteria, Bernardo, and Open Society Foundations General Counsel Gail Scovell all were sent letters. By July 6, the Judiciary Committee requests copies of the documents and emails in question, and well as answers as to whether they existed in the first place and if the FBI had previously tried to obtain them for the recipients.

    The Washington Post claimed that by August of 2016, the FBI was confident the Russian report was a forgery. Wasserman Schultz and Bernardo have denied sending any emails to or even knowing each other. Renteria has similar denials about knowing Attorney General Lynch.

    Whatever the doubts about it’s authenticity, however, the document is widely claimed to have played into Comey’s decision to make his public pronouncements about the Clinton email investigation, the putative reason for his firing by President Donald Trump this May. Comey’s concern that the document might be leaked supposedly went far in convincing him he needed to get out of ahead of it and accurately characterize the investigation.

    Subsequent events have confirmed certain concerns about Lynch’s conduct during the Clinton email investigation, which first came under general suspicion after she was caught by a local ABC news crew meeting with former President Bill Clinton only weeks before the Democratic National Convention as the investigation was still ongoing.

    Comey, during his celebrated post-firing testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee, confirmed that that meeting also played into his decision to make his public remarks on the Clinton investigation. At the same hearing, Comey confirmed that Lynch did, in fact, tell him to refer to the criminal investigation as a “matter,” and that request “concerned and confused” him.

    Comey refused to answer a question about the Russian document posed by Grassley in his Judiciary Committee testimony while still FBI Director. In his post-firing testimony, as he confirmed the “call it a matter” request, Comey hinted that there were further actions taken by Lynch with regard to the Clinton investigation “which I cannot talk about yet.”

    Washington Post Spy Fiction: Obama Admin ‘Choked’ as Russia Committed ‘Crime of the Century’

    The Washington Post awed the news world Friday morning with a monster “exclusive” story promising to reveal “Obama’s secret struggle to punish Russia for Putin’s election assault.” Instead, what it delivers is a magnum “Rusher” opus.

    For the uninitiated, “Rushers” are left-wing “Birthers” — i.e., partisans so devastated by an election loss that they have cooked up a conspiracy that, if proven, would force the winner out of office and undo all of his executive actions. Birthers believed that Barack Obama would be proven constitutionally ineligible to serve as president if they could prove he was born in Kenya. Rushers believe that Donald Trump will be impeached and prosecuted for treason because he is a secret operative for Russian President Vladimir Putin.

    Whereas mainstream conservatism disavowed Birthers, the institutional left has embraced the Rusher conspiracy; top lawmakers and journalists remain true believers. The Rusher narrative has dominated the Washington Post‘s reporting since Trump’s upset victory over Hillary Clinton. Along with laughable fake stories — e.g., “Russian hackers penetrated U.S. electricity grid,” or Adam Entous, an author on Friday’s piece, interpreting a joke by Rep. Kevin McCarthy as a REAL SCOOP — the Post has advanced the story with breathless innuendo about Tump and his associates, printed allegations from sources that they have no means to confirm, and often caveated tantalizing headlines with reminders that there is no evidence of any crime (or that the current scandal is not illegal).

    The new Post piece — with the triple byline of Greg Miller, Ellen Nakashima, and Entous, plus contributions from Karen DeYoung and Julie Tate — bears all the marks of the Rusher genre. It reaffirms that Russia did not alter any votes in the 2016 election (almost 100 paragraphs in!), misleads about the FBI’s investigation into potential collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia, and fixates the bureaucratic process behind the Obama White House’s public statements and sanctions. While casting several top Obama officials as heroic and aggressive (eliminating much doubt as to who the cited “officials” are), the report laments that the previous administration’s efforts against Russia were too little, too late.

    Naturally, many purportedly objective reporters celebrated the article as important and “powerful”:

    The primary takeaways from the article, based on progressive responses:

    Obama was too moderate and cautious, just like he always was as president, and Russia won’t suffer proportional consequences for its heinous crime.

    President Obama “approved a previously undisclosed covert measure that authorized planting cyber weapons in Russia’s infrastructure, the digital equivalent of bombs that could be detonated.” Liberal journalists are impressed, but they worry Trump will back off from using Obama’s “cyber weapon.”

    Sen. Mitch McConnell did not buy the intelligence suggesting that Russia was trying to undermine the U.S. election and dragged his feet on making a public statement as the campaign got into gears last September. The rabid left has been calling McConnell a “traitor” because of this. Yet the piece elsewhere admits that “some of the most critical technical intelligence on Russia came from another country,” making the NSA “reluctant to view it with high confidence.”

    In the Rusher mind, the 8,000 words padding out these inconsequential revelations are evidence of the story’s consequence.

    And, if you dare to slog through the whole thing, the paper throws in a slew of eyeroll-worthy outbursts revealing how many arguable conclusions these “objective” reporters have accepted as gospel.

    “HACKING DEMOCRACY”

    The Rushers have finally wised up to the fact that “hacking the election” is a punchline now. Yet they can’t keep from using an even vaguer, emotionally charged phrase as a subtitle on the top illustration in the piece:

    “CRIME OF THE CENTURY”

    This is the phrase that Blue Check Mark Twitter has picked up widely — treating it as an established fact, as though putting a hot take inside a long-form news piece makes it not a hot take:

    In political terms, Russia’s interference was the crime of the century, an unprecedented and largely successful destabilizing attack on American democracy. It was a case that took almost no time to solve, traced to the Kremlin through cyber-forensics and intelligence on Putin’s involvement. And yet, because of the divergent ways Obama and Trump have handled the matter, Moscow appears unlikely to face proportionate consequences.

    DID THEY HACK THE VOTE? (THEY DIDN’T)

    The piece oozes with innuendo that Russian hackers may have manipulated votes on Election Day.

    The authors quote Michael Daniel, cybersecurity coordinator at the White House, saying that the administration feared scenarios “such as disrupting the voter rolls, deleting every 10th voter [from registries], or flipping two digits in everybody’s address.”

    They then state that former DHS Secretary Jeh Johnson tried to “shore up the security of the nation’s archaic patchwork of voting systems” but was rebuffed by “some state officials… calling it a federal takeover.”

    Later on, the piece reverses the meaning of its loaded language, citing the “patchwork nature” of U.S. voting systems as a defense against interference: “The patchwork nature of the United States’ 3,000 or so voting jurisdictions would make it hard for Russia to swing the outcome,” it declares, “but Moscow could still sow chaos.”

    Ultimately, the reporters admit that not a single vote was altered — but that information is buried in the ninety-sixth paragraph: “Despite the dire warnings, there were no meltdowns in the United States’ voting infrastructure on Nov. 8, no evidence of hacking-related fraud, crashing of electronic ballots or ma­nipu­la­tion of vote counts.”

    DEEP STATE HEROICS

    The possible sources for the story become quite obvious, as the authors give glowing depictions of key characters again and again.

    The authors open the story with the claim that former CIA Director John Brennan first informed Obama that Putin personally ordered operations to hurt Clinton’s campaign and help Trump’s — and that Brennan went to great lengths (“an envelope with extraordinary handling restrictions”) to prevent leaks and demonstrate the severity of the situation. He later “moved swiftly” to meet with lawmakers about this grave threat and was the first White House official to give a “blunt” warning to Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) Director.

    Former Secretary of State John Kerry gets several moments in the spotlight, too. This one sentence says it all: “Often perceived as reluctant to confront Russia, in part to preserve his attempts to negotiate a Syria peace deal, Kerry was at critical moments one of the leading hawks.”

    And, worst of all, Former National Security Adviser Susan Rice comes across as a powerful heroine, cutting through the BS and pushing Obama toward the right decisions. One anonymous source quotes her as “cutting off” the objections of other administration officials: “We’re not talking anymore. We’re acting.” Rice, the Post writes in transparent awe, “moved swiftly” through proposals on the response to Russia.

    Rice also pushed other Obama officials to be bold, the story says. “Rice challenged [Brennan, DNI James Clapper, Kerry, and Deputy FBI Director Andrew McCabe] to go to the ‘max of their comfort zones,'” we are told. Apparently, she was the one who convinced McCabe to go along with plans to seize two U.S.-based Russian compounds. “You guys have been begging to do this for years,” she reportedly told him. “Now is your chance.”

    Unsurprisingly, the authors interviewed Rice’s deputy Ben Rhodes on the record for this piece. Also unsurprisingly: It completely omits the investigation into her “unmasking” of U.S. citizens in surveillance recordings — an act that Bloomberg columnist Eli Lake condemned as “what police states do.”

    MUELLER SAVE US PLZ

    The authors say President Trump “has denied any collusion” with Russia during the campaign — omitting the multiple Obama Cabinet members who have publicly stated or testified under oath that there is no evidence of collusion (or, for the sake of hair splitting, only conceding that the FBI probe is investigation potential “coordination,” not collusion). And, of course, in the same breath, the authors mention the unconfirmed claim (put out by anonymous sources through the Post) that President Trump is being investigated for obstruction of justice.

    Nothing quite illustrates Rusher fantasies than the Post‘s breathless reporting on special counsel Robert Mueller: There is no evidence of Trump’s campaign colluding with Russia, but the investigation goes on because Russia Must Pay. Also, Trump could be taken down by conversations with law enforcement officials that could be interpreted as putting pressure on the investigation (but not really), even though the parties in those conversations have testified under oath that those conversations did not hinder or affect their investigations.

    The good news is: Now that this massive long read is out of the way, it will only get harder for the Rushers to up the ante and keep even die-hard Resisters interested in the story.

If you say, ‘There may be a way to actually — to figure out exactly what was said, there could be a mechanism, thus you ought to watch what you say.’ That’s not intimidation at all. That’s just — I mean as you say, we’re now at sort of the tertiary level of accusation. You can’t get anywhere on collusion, we have yet in almost a year to have any evidence of collusion. So they’re on to obstruction. Obstruction is really kind of shaky. There isn’t really that much there. So now you want to go to intimidation of a witness. They’re getting a bit desperate. This is going to happen. This will go on for months and years perhaps, but it’s getting more and more absurd. It’s tail-chasing, and if the Democrats want to spend the next year, year-and-a-half in a rabbit hole, be our guest.”

Trey Gowdy appeared on CNN’s “Outfront” Thursday after testimony from Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats leaked to the press.And the media leaks came after Coats was assured by both the South Carolina Republican and his Democratic counterpart on the committee, Rep. Adam Schiff of California, that nothing he disclosed would make it into the public sphere.

    “About eight hours ago, Adam Schiff and I looked Dan Coats in the eyes and we assured him that there would be no selective leaking of his testimony to us,” Gowdy told “Outfront” host Erin Burnett. “And I’ll be damned if eight hours later, there aren’t three different leaks with what he told us.”

    Within hours of the closed door hearing, NBC News reported that “Coats tells House investigators President Trump seemed obsessed with Russia probe.”

    “So if anyone is questioning why Congressional investigations aren’t taken seriously, and are viewed as political exercises, you need to look no further than the fact that we looked one of our intelligence officials in the eyes and promised him there would be no selective leaking. And here I am being asked about it not even eight hours later.”

    Gowdy told Burnett that there were only eight people in the room when Coats offered his testimony, and said that such leaks to the press could deter other witnesses from coming forward.

    It just happened folks.

    The FBI has apparently declared that the Scalise shooting (at the baseball park) was spontaneous and not premeditated.

    This, despite the fact that they found multiple pictures of the ball field in his possession.

    They have also declared that he had no particular target in mind.

    This, despite the fact that he had a list of Congresspeople on him at the time he committed the offense.

    They have further declared that they have no particular motive either.

    This, despite the reported fact that he asked one of the people there whether it was Republicans or Democrats practicing, and only after hearing it was Republicans did he go retrieve his guns and start shooting.

    Oh, and this "random", "no known motive" nutbag (at least the last word is accurate) traveled the better part of 1,000 miles in a van from Illinois to Washington DC, rented a storage locker in which he deposited a nice big cache of rounds for his weapons, and then did all of the above.

    This is the same FBI, I remind you, that had a Director (since fired) who went on national television and laid out every element of a criminal statute being violated by one Hillary Clinton and then proclaimed that "no reasonable prosecutor would bring the case."

    I'm not sure if it was the Hillary thing, or even the 9/11 thing where the ragheads who would go on to blow up 3,000 Americans were called in by an astute citizen who thought it was damn odd they were paying in cash for simulator time and didn't want to know how to land. After all, we were told, 9/11 was a "complex plot" with "lots of moving parts", especially the ones that were allowed to keep moving and leave the country for their native (guess which one) nation after it happened by one President Bush.

    But this, well, it's just a bit beyond belief, you see.

    You have a guy who drives halfway across the nation, rents a storage locker, searches on the Internet for where a 2017 GOP convention might be held, takes pictures of the very ball field where he commits his assault, has a list containing the names of six members of Congress on his person and then to put a cherry on top of all of it directly inquires of a passerby whether it's actually Republicans on that field before he starts shooting -- and is told "yes."

    This, my friends, is all consistent with a random, no-notice and no-motive shooting "incident" -- not a plotted, and carried out, act of terrorism against Republicans by someone who in fact belonged to a Facebook group called "Terminate Republicans".

    Right.

    Sketchy firm behind Trump dossier is stalling investigators

    A secretive Washington firm that commissioned the dubious intelligence dossier on Donald Trump is stonewalling congressional investigators trying to learn more about its connections to the Democratic Party.

    The Senate Judiciary Committee earlier this month threatened to subpoena the firm, Fusion GPS, after it refused to answer questions and provide records to the panel identifying who financed the error-ridden dossier, which was circulated during the election and has sparked much of the Russia scandal now engulfing the White House.

    What is the company hiding? Fusion GPS describes itself as a “research and strategic intelligence firm” founded by “three former Wall Street Journal investigative reporters.” But congressional sources says it’s actually an opposition-research group for Democrats, and the founders, who are more political activists than journalists, have a pro-Hillary, anti-Trump agenda.

    “These weren’t mercenaries or hired guns,” a congressional source familiar with the dossier probe said. “These guys had a vested personal and ideological interest in smearing Trump and boosting Hillary’s chances of winning the White House.”

    Fusion GPS was on the payroll of an unidentified Democratic ally of Clinton when it hired a long-retired British spy to dig up dirt on Trump. In 2012, Democrats hired Fusion GPS to uncover dirt on GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney. And in 2015, Democrat ally Planned Parenthood retained Fusion GPS to investigate pro-life activists protesting the abortion group.

    More, federal records show a key co-founder and partner in the firm was a Hillary Clinton donor and supporter of her presidential campaign.

    In September 2016, while Fusion GPS was quietly shopping the dirty dossier on Trump around Washington, its co-founder and partner Peter R. Fritsch contributed at least $1,000 to the Hillary Victory Fund and the Hillary For America campaign, Federal Election Commission data show. His wife also donated money to Hillary’s campaign.

    Property records show that in June 2016, as Clinton allies bankrolled Fusion GPS, Fritsch bought a six-bedroom, five-bathroom home in Bethesda, Md., for $2.3 million.

    Fritsch did not respond to requests for comment. A lawyer for Fusion GPS said the firm’s work is confidential.

    Sources say Fusion GPS had its own interest, beyond those of its clients, in promulgating negative gossip about Trump.

    Fritsch, who served as the Journal’s bureau chief in Mexico City and has lectured at the liberal Wilson Center’s Mexico Institute, married into a family with Mexican business interests. His wife, Beatriz Garcia, formerly worked as an executive at Grupo Dina, a manufacturer of trucks and buses in Mexico City that benefits from NAFTA, which Trump opposes.

    Fritsch’s Fusion GPS partner Thomas Catan, who grew up in Britain, once edited a business magazine in Mexico, moreover. A third founding partner, Glenn Simpson, is reported to have shared dark views of both Russian President Vladimir Putin and Trump. Before joining Fusion GPS, Simpson did opposition research for a former Clinton White House operative.

    The Senate Judiciary Committee is also investigating whether the FBI has wrongly relied on the anti-Trump dossier and its author, Christopher Steele — the old spy who was hired by Fusion GPS to build a Russia file on Trump — to aid its ongoing espionage investigation into the Trump campaign and its possible ties to Moscow.

    The FBI received a copy of the Democrat-funded dossier in August, during the heat of the campaign, and is said to have contracted in October to pay Steele $50,000 to help corroborate the dirt on Trump — a relationship that “raises substantial questions about the independence” of the bureau in investigating Trump, warned Senate Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa.

    Senate investigators are demanding to see records of communications between Fusion GPS and the FBI and the Justice Department, including any contacts with former Attorney General Loretta Lynch, now under congressional investigation for possibly obstructing the Hillary Clinton email probe, and deputy FBI director Andrew McCabe, who is under investigation by the Senate and the Justice inspector general for failing to recuse himself despite financial and political connections to the Clinton campaign through his Democrat activist wife. Senate investigators have singled out McCabe as the FBI official who negotiated with Steele.

    Like Fusion GPS, the FBI has failed to cooperate with congressional investigators seeking documents.

    Steele contracted with Fusion GPS to investigate Trump’s ties to Russia starting in June 2016, whereupon he outlandishly claimed that Hillary campaign hackers were “paid by both Trump’s team and the Kremlin” and that the operation was run out of Putin’s office. He also fed Fusion GPS and its Hillary-allied clients incredulous gossip about Trump hating the Obamas so much that he hired hookers to urinate on a bed they slept in at the Moscow Ritz-Carlton, and that Russian intelligence recorded the pee party in case they needed to blackmail Trump.

    Never mind that none of the rumors were backed by evidence or even credible sourcing (don’t bother trying to confirm his bed-wetting yarn, Steele advised, as “all direct witnesses have been silenced”). Steele reinforced his paying customers’ worst fears about Trump, and they rewarded him for it with a whopping $250,000 in payments.

    But it’s now clear his “intelligence reports,” which together run more than 35-pages long, were for the most part worthless. And the clients who paid Fusion GPS (which claims to go “beyond standard due diligence”) for them got taken to the cleaners.

    Steele’s most sensational allegations remain unconfirmed. For instance, his claim that Trump lawyer Michael Cohen held a “clandestine meeting” on the alleged hacking scheme in Prague with “Kremlin officials” in August 2016 unraveled when Cohen denied ever visiting Prague, his passport showed no stamps showing he left or entered the US at the time, witnesses accounted for his presence here, and Czech authorities found no evidence Cohen went to Prague.

    Steele hadn’t worked in Moscow since the 1990s and didn’t actually travel there to gather intelligence on Trump firsthand. He relied on third-hand “friend of friend” sourcing. In fact, most of his claimed Russian sources spoke not directly to him but “in confidence to a trusted compatriot” who, in turn, spoke to Steele — and always anonymously.

    But his main source may have been Google. Most of the information branded as “intelligence” was merely rehashed from news headlines or cut and pasted — replete with errors — from Wikipedia.

    In fact, much of the seemingly cloak-and-dagger information connecting Trump and his campaign advisers to Russia had already been reported in the media at the time Steele wrote his monthly reports.

    In the same August report, for example, Steele connected a Moscow trip taken by then-Trump campaign adviser Michael Flynn to “the Russian operation” to hack the election. But there was nothing secret about the trip, which had taken place months earlier and had been widely reported.

    And there was nothing untoward about it. It was a dinner celebrating the 10th birthday of Russian TV network RT, and Flynn sat at the same table with Putin as US Green Party presidential candidate Jill Stein.

    The real question is why anyone would take anything in the sketchy report seriously.

    But even the CIA gave it credence. The dossier ended up attached to a Top Secret intelligence briefing on Russia for President Obama, even though his intelligence czar last month testified “We couldn’t corroborate the sourcing.” The FBI, moreover, has been using it for investigative leads on Trump associates like Carter Page, even though former FBI Director James Comey this month described the dossier as “salacious and unverified.”

    And of course, Democratic leaders in Congress keep referring to it to cook up more charges against Trump, while liberal media continue to use it as a road map to find “scoops” on Trump in the “Russiagate” conspiracy they’re peddling — still hoping against hope that the central thrust of the report — that Trump entered into an unholy alliance with the Russian government during the election — will one day prove true and bring about the downfall of his presidency.

    President Trump continued his assault on the probes into Russia’s involvement in the election by blasting Hillary Clinton for colluding with Democrats to beat Bernie Sanders.

    “Hillary Clinton colluded with the Democratic Party in order to beat Crazy Bernie Sanders. Is she allowed to so collude? Unfair to Bernie!,” Trump wrote Sunday morning.

    Hacked emails from the Democratic National Committee and released on WikiLeaks last summer show officials in the organization criticized the Vermont senator, who challenged Clinton in the primary race, even though publicly they appeared to remain neutral.

    Trump has been lashing out on Twitter about the election since the Washington Post reported on Friday that former President Obama was alerted to Russia’s meddling last summer but was conflicted about how to handle it so he wouldn’t appear to be tilting the election toward Clinton.

    “Just out: The Obama Administration knew far in advance of November 8th about election meddling by Russia. Did nothing about it. WHY?,” Trump tweeted on Friday.
