10/5/16 We are preparing for hurricane Matthew to bring big wind and rain to most of the coastal area of SC. Evacuation has been called for the lower third of the state. Even though we are two hours inland, there is a significant chance for the outer bands of the storm to create some havoc here.

The President has signed an order that will help the USA to be better prepared to prevent or recover from a CME from the sun. The effects of a CME would be felt first by satellites that provide GPS. Depending on how strong the CME is, it could take down the power grid along with most anything that has a computer connected to it. Banking, medical records, automobiles, and etc. are just a few examples. It appears the order is set up to help ensure the power grid will brought back up on line and to provide some kind of shield for satellites. It is not an answer to everything but at least it is a step that way.
