Heart-warming footage has emerged showing a group of chimpanzees overjoyed at seeing sunlight for the first time in their lives at a safari park for ex-laboratory animals in Austria — having spent 30 years cooped up inside testing facilities.
The footage, first broadcast by German television station RTL on September 4, shows two adult chimps frozen in wonder as they stare at the outside world through the open door of their enclosure — as a number of their fellow primates linger in the dark behind them.
The first chimp takes only a few tentative steps outside before turning back, grabbing its friend in a bear hug and squealing in excitement.
