The Salt Legend
Once apon a time there was a village near Salt River.
One day the whole village was going to move to another place.
Among the people was a lonely little girl and her dog.
They started out.
After they had gone a long way, they remembered that they had forgotten something.
They sent the little girl and her dog back to get it.
When she came back, the others had gone.
She went into a cave and cried and cried and cried.
When the tears ran too fast, she wiped them away with her hand.
She dried her hand on a rock in the cave.
Today there is a legend that the salt in the cave is from her tears.
If you go there alone, you will hear the sound of a little girl crying and her dog barking.
Of course, this is just a story.
but think hom many salty tears would have to dry on a rock to form much salt
. think how long the little girl would have to cry for it to happen.
It is hard to imagine, isn't it ?
Her tears would not really help her fine her tribe.
If she cried very hard, they would not even help her feel better.
Yet some people seem to think that if they cry long and hard it will help them find Creator.
If it did, they would be saved by their own works.
An old hymn tells us this;
" Could my tears forever flow...
These for sin could not atone
Thou must save, and Thou alone, "
The Bible says it this way; " For by the grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast." { Ephesians 2 :8-9 }
