Scottish Power are to increase the price of gas to its 5 million Uk customers by a whopping 19% (yes thats 19%) from August this year. Electricity will increase by 10%. The other energy companies will follow suit.

These are huge increases and taken with the rise on VAT to 20% increasing food bills and massive cuts in the public sector, it will put huge financial pressure on families and individuals already struggling. This will only get worse and is probably the shape of things to come.

It provides an excellent opportunity to look at and implement alternative and sustainable sources of power and food

This type of increase always makes me furious as it takes more resources and leaves less to live on. Too many people are already making huge sacrifices. This just goes to show this type of lifestyle (eating, driving and needing heat in winter) is no longer viable. What's next?
