Transformer Fire at Georgia Power Substation
    May 12, 2011

Deputy Fire Chief Jeff Scarbrough says fire is contained at substation off Morgan Falls Road.

Folks in the area said they heard a loud noise and saw a plume of smoke when a tranformer blew just before 4 p.m., Thursday, at the Georgia Power substation off Morgan Falls Road.

    Toronto transformer fire closed highway
    March 18 2011

A huge transformer fire near Toronto's Pearson Airport snarled Friday afternoon rush-hour traffic and sent black smoke billowing overhead.

Toronto police said a large transformer blew up at Hydro One's Richview transformer station in the city's west end at 4:49 p.m., and firefighters battled the blaze, which was out by 8:40 p.m.

Transformer fire may have tripped tornado sirens across St. Charles County
    May 14, 2011

ST. CHARLES COUNTY • Authorities believe a transformer fire near the county’s fire and ambulance dispatch center in Wentzville about 3:45 p.m. today caused a power surge that tripped tornado warning sirens from the dispatch center for about three to four minutes.
The transformer was atop a pole on West Meyer and May roads, near St. Joseph Health Center, authorities said.
The dispatch center is at 1605 Wentzville Parkway.
The cause of the fire was unknown Saturday. The National Weather Service confirmed that it issued no tornado watches or warnings.

    Transformer Explosion Snarls Traffic
    May 10, 2011

Snellville motorists and residents got caught in some unexpected traffic Monday on Scenic Highway.
The culprit was an exploded transformer.
Police at the scene said the transformer exploded at approximately 3:30 pm and was immediately engulfed in flames. The transformer burned for several minutes until electrical crews extinguished the flames.

Fort Worth: Now Fort Atkinson has A TRANSFORMER LIGHT SHOW!

The Fort Atkinson Fire Department tells us that an electrical transformer blew up early Thursday morning at Nasco International Inc., 901 Janesville Avenue.
The roof of the main office caught fire and had to be extinguished by the fire department. There is substantial electrical damage to the main office as well.
There were no injuries. The Nasco main office is closed for today.

Fort Worth Explosions , caused by Orbs? Re posted.

I posted this remarkable video of 'orbs' mysteriously flying above exploding transformers in Fort Worth Texas three days ago, even more mysteriously the whole post and any reference to it disappeared from my blog, I can only imagine Google are responsible.
Well here is the the whole thing re posted, watch the video, you can clearly see three or four orbs appear and disappear at the beginning of the clip, birds can be heard singing in the background which I thought was rather odd considering it is dark and no explosion noise is audible or noise of thunder.

US official: growing threat from solar storms

GENEVA (AP) -- A senior official at the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration says solar storms pose a growing threat to criticial infrastructure such as satellite communications, navigation systems and electrical transmission equipment.

NOAA Assistant Secretary Kathryn Sullivan says the intensity of solar storms is expected to peak in 2013 and countries should prepare for "potentially devastating effects."

Solar storms release particles that can temporarily disable or permanently destroy fragile computer circuits.

Sullivan, a former NASA astronaut who in 1984 became the first woman to walk in space, told a U.N. weather conference in Geneva on Tuesday that "it is not a question of if, but really a matter of when a major solar event could hit our planet.

In relation to the comets dive-bombing the Sun link, is this becoming a 'regular occurence'? The site says it thinks the large solar flare occuring at the same time is just coincidence, but then there's this video that Jenetta placed on the Elenin thread that shows the same scenario, apparently in February 2003. It begins to look like the Sun is doing this 'on purpose'. Did you see this one Carol?

Westwood electrical explosion injures bus driver
    Wednesday, May 18, 2011

WESTWOOD, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- An electrical explosion rocked Westwood Tuesday at about 9:20 a.m., blowing out windows and sending flames and smoke pouring out of an electrical vault at Westwood Blvd. and Weyburn Ave. The blast sent a metal plate flying into a Metro bus and injured the driver.

An underground Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) electrical vault exploded. Witnesses say the power of the blast sent a Metro bus aboveground into the air.

"It lifted the back end of the bus about two feet off the ground from the power of the explosion," said James Flanagan, a witness at the scene. "The explosion, when it happened, there was a big ball of red flames and it looked the main gas tank of the bus exploded, but it wasn't."

It would be interesting to find some other facts about those happening . For instance, taking other days at random from say 12 months ago and compare the data on transformers blowout . In my younger days , I remember that days or rain would always cause electronic / electrical appliances failures . So the electronic workshops would be very busy on those times . I am not trying to discount the phenomenon , I am just aware of the rainy day effect on electronics/ electrical gear. It would be interesting to keep an eye on future events in this field . The jury is still out on this issue for the moment . EMP or natural phenomenon ?

'Controlled' power cuts likely as Sun storm threatens national grid

    Monday, 13 June 2011

    http://www.independent.co.uk/news/science/controlled-power-cuts-likely-as-sun-storm-threatens-national-grid-2296748.html

Officials in Britain and the United States are preparing to make controlled power cuts to their national electricity supplies in response to a warning of a possible powerful solar storm hitting the Earth. In an interview with The Independent, Thomas Bogdan, director of the US Space Weather Prediction Centre, said that controlled power "outages" will protect the National Electricity Grids against damage which could take months or even years to repair should a large solar storm collide with the Earth without any precautions being taken.

Major Drop in Solar Activity Predicted
    June 14, 2011

    http://www.spaceref.com/news/viewpr.html?pid=33826&utm_content=api&utm_medium=srs.gs-twitter&utm_source=direct-srs.gs

The Sun viewed in visible light, at minimum phase (2006) and maximum phase (2001)

A missing jet stream, fading spots, and slower activity near the poles say that our Sun is heading for a rest period even as it is acting up for the first time in years, according to scientists at the National Solar Observatory (NSO) and the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL).

As the current sunspot cycle, Cycle 24, begins to ramp up toward maximum, independent studies of the solar interior, visible surface, and the corona indicate that the next 11-year solar sunspot cycle, Cycle 25, will be greatly reduced or may not happen at all.

The results were announced at the annual meeting of the Solar Physics Division of the American Astronomical Society, which is being held this week at New Mexico State University in Las Cruces: http://astronomy.nmsu.edu/SPD2011/

"This is highly unusual and unexpected," Dr. Frank Hill, associate director of the NSO's Solar Synoptic Network, said of the results. "But the fact that three completely different views of the Sun point in the same direction is a powerful indicator that the sunspot cycle may be going into hibernation."
