I have no idea as to my ability to predict events. I tend to have 20/20 hindsight.

I mentioned in another thread the other day that I could feel energy coming from above some clouds that appeared to be arranged in a somewhat strategic manner (they certainly had a numinous quality to them).

I have no idea what this means, if it means anything at all. The greatest trickster is the mind, and I am still seeking ways to keep a strong connection with my emotional guidance system.

    Having said that:

One of the clouds I saw near my volcano was almost the exact shape of North America, from Vancouver, B.C., down to central Mexico.

What appeared to be the very bottom of California/tip of Baja California, was missing.

Interview on Monday, March 14, 2011 with Neil Cavuto and Geologist Jim Berkland

    http://www.foxbusiness.com/on-air/cavuto/transcript/major-earthquake-north-america-imminent

    Jim Berkland's website: http://www.syzygyjob.com/

Here is a transcript of the interview.

    NEIL CAVUTO, HOST:
Boy oh, boy, just what Japan does not need. An imminent earthquake warning just issued for several regions of the country. On edge there, on edge here, because it really didn't start with Japan. Take a look at what experts are increasingly calling the so-called ring of fire that is encircling the entire Pacific Ocean. You remember Chile's massive earthquake about a year ago. Then we had that big one in New Zealand just last month. Then of course Japan.

If this clockwise trend continues, my next guest says North America looks to be on tap next. Don't laugh. Geologist Jim Berkland is worried. When he worries, you should worry too. Jim accurately predicted, get this, the 1989 so-called World Series earthquake four days before it shook the San Francisco Bay Area. And Jim says this month is of particular concern. Why, Jim?

JIM BERKLAND, GEOLOGIST: The months of October, March, and April are the three most devastating earthquakes in terms of damage in the San Francisco Bay Area in history. And we are having on the 19th of this month not only the full moon, but within an hour the closest approach of the moon to the earth until the year 2016. The next day is the equinoctial tides. So you're bringing together three of the maximum tide raising forces. We know about the ocean tides. But there is also an Earth tide. And there is a tide in the ground water. All of these help to release sudden, built up strain, and cause earthquakes.

CAVUTO: But that would seem to imply that we could be looking at a very imminent event in the United States within the next week or two? Is that right?

BERKLAND: Yes. -- what I call a seismic window, this top seismic window in years is developing between the 19th and 26th of this month. And this was 7.0 monster and it says geologist had warned about it. And a week earlier, they were talking about the tides, not to worry about the really tides coming up. I think there is worry here too.

CAVUTO: So let me just understand. You're a genius. I'm not. I want to follow your fine brain on this.

    BERKLAND: Not a genius.

CAVUTO: What you're saying is that there is certain order to this, even though it doesn't appear like order? For a lot of folks, it just seems like random events. But you're saying there is a process unfolding here? For California –

    BERKLAND: Absolutely.

CAVUTO: California, Oregon or whatever, would that mean? What type of quake or disturbance or disruption would that be?

BERKLAND: Well, if it was, one in the northwest, in the Cascadia Trench, like we had in 1700, that would be a nine magnitude quake. I'm not predicting that. But I'm saying we just had a massive fish kill. Maybe a million fish died in Redondo Beach. They had a massive fish sweep in Mexico. We just had a bunch of whales come in close to San Diego.

CAVUTO: What does that presage? When you have events like that, what does that generally mean? What's going on in the waters?

BERKLAND: Changes -- changes in the magnetic field that often precede larger earthquakes. Most animals have the mineral magnetite in their bodies, including people. But it causes homing pigeons to enable them to get home. Just before big quakes, they often can't get home. There is the delay factor. So we look for those kinds of things.

Just before the World Series quake there was very unusual beaching of rare whales in the Ocean Beach, in San Francisco. Just after that, a equally rare pigmy sperm whale washed up at Santa Cruz, within about five miles of the epicenter of the World Series quake. That kind of beaching had never occurred before nor since. So we're looking for strange fish coming into from deepwater to the shallow water, wild animals coming into cities.

I used to just scoff at these kinds of things, because I was a mainstream geologist until I found out that earthquakes are fitting a pattern. The big earthquake in the Indian Ocean followed massive beachings of whales in Taiwan -- not Taiwan, but New Zealand and Australia and Tasmania. And then within couple of days, they had a 8.3 in south of New Zealand, and then came the 9.1 in the Indian Ocean, with the big tsunami, on the very day of the fool moon.

    CAVUTO: Wow.

BERKLAND: The previous big quake and tsunami was in Alaska, which was a 9.2 magnitude event, on the day off the full moon, on the 27th of March.

CAVUTO: Jim, bottom line, we have a lot to watch. Believe me, you're track record compels us to watch it. Jim, thank you very much. I hope you're wrong, buddy. I really hope your wrong but your record –

BERKLAND: Especially at this time, world history, not good.

CAVUTO: All right, sir. Thank you very much. Jim Berkland in San Francisco, pretty good geologist.

Post  HigherLove Fri Mar 18, 2011 5:11 pm

Ugh! Yeah, I saw this video. Disturbing.

Much of San Francisco is on bedrock. Indeed, in 1989, a coworker was in S.F. and said he did not even feel it! I was on shakier ground (alluvial soils), so it shook the c*** out of us. I thought the world was coming to an end.

That was a 7.0/7.1. My gawd!

It was dark as we drove back over the Golden Gate Bridge, and I was just heartsick, as the only visible light was from the fires in the Marina District. At the same time, we were listening to the radio, and hearing accounts of the collapse of the cantaliever section of the Bay Bridge. Shortly after crossing, the GG Bridge was closed for inspection.

So, the Marina fire raises a good point: landfill.

ALL of Foster City in the East Bay (sitting right on the Hayward Fault, as well, which can produce at least a 7.0 or better -- the East Bay also has a large population), is sitting on landfill.

Much of the financial district sits on landfill (it used to be the infamous Barbary Coast, but is now known as The Embarcadero).

What concerns me most for large cities (even when buildings have been designed for such things) is that they are done so with the assumption that the ground underneath is not going to disappear.

Sure, it's great to know that the Pyramid is built on a huge ball-and-socket joint, and it is designed to pivot on a ball in the center, but again, if the ground under it disappears...(I do believe they make the foundatins in bedrock, however). Hmm. More research needed.

I am supposed to be meeting a friend from Washington, this weekend. I am hoping we can meet in the Napa Valley (Sunday). That means crossing over St. HelenA Mountain, but so be it.

Oh, wow...I just remembered a recurring dream I had many years ago: the roads of St. Helena were impassible due to a natural disaster (this was before I had ever felt my first quake).

I had to walk across it, and there were many hazards. But, I made it.

It's just that I had that dream about 5 times.

I have also dreamnt of flying around the top of the San Francisco pyramid (just me flying). It was soooo real.

Anyhow, while there are advantages to being on bedrock, in terms of it not shaking so much (unless it is really big, then we are toast), bedrock is prone to fissures/cracks (i.e. 17 foot-wide trench in the Santa Cruz mountains for Loma Prieta). Houses exploded, there. They literally exploded. People reported that they were in their homes, the quake hit, their house exploded, and they rode down the hill on the debris from their homes!

    Mercy be upon California.

    Simple roller bearing

Simple roller bearing is a base isolation device which is intended for protection of various building and non-building structures against potentially damaging lateral impacts of strong earthquakes.

This metallic bearing support may be adapted, with certain precautions, as a seismic isolator to skyscrapers and buildings on soft ground. Recently, it has been employed under the name of Metallic Roller Bearing for a housing complex (17 stories) in Tokyo, Japan."

Post  Carol Fri Mar 18, 2011 9:29 pm

Thanks for all of the great posts Troy. I was in the San Francisco quake as well on the third floor in the conference room with all the big wigs planning a Child Abuse Prevention statewide conference when the quake hit. Crazy Happy Fortunately we were in a room with no windows, just a conference table and chairs. I was looking up at the ceiling wondering if it was going to cave in and heard all of my floor to ceiling book cases crashing in the room next to me. Thinking my secretary was still in the next room I got up during the quake and made it into the next room where I could look out the window and watch people running out into the street from the buildings. One gent, standing in the middle of the street looking up and down, just had a towel wrapped around him. My knees shook for days afterwards and I didn't know if it was just PTS or aftershocks.

As a result... I'm really, really am big on warnings. When all the power goes out, there is chaos in the streets and inside - one tends to take these things a little more seriously then someone who has yet to go through a major quake. Japan is in megga trouble and will 'never' recover in those areas where their nuclear plants were destroyed. Never is very long time. Many are among the walking dead with radiation poisoning. This could happen to California in a heart beat.

Meanwhile, the course is set. We can only move forward.

March 18, 2011 – SEATTLE – I wanted to post live feeds of the Cascadian zone during the lunar perigee. They are synced to update with USGS data. We’re seeing some high tides registering near British Columbia on the East Dellwood Buoy of (20 feet variations) and South East Papa buoy near Northern California and Oregon. This coupled with the minor 2.9 quake in Puget Sound may suggest the plate may be experiencing some perturbation. The alpha point is (11 earthquakes- 7 along Ca and 4 in the Cascadian zone). As can be seen from the seismograph of Oregon below, the current activity is relatively minor so I posted this as more of a monitoring mechanism for the area.

    Thanks, Carol.

Per my edits above, the most recent quake in Northern California was a few miles from me, in the geysers. :op

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Geysers

"The Geysers geothermal development spans an area of around 78 km² (30 mi²) in Sonoma, Lake and Mendocino counties in California, located in the Mayacamas Mountains. Power from The Geysers provides electricity to Sonoma, Lake, Mendocino, Marin, and Napa counties. It is estimated that the development meets 60 % of the power demand for the coastal region between the Golden Gate Bridge and the Oregon state line."

    Carry on...

    http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/recenteqsus/Quakes/nc71544341.php

2 km (1 miles) NE (52°) from The Geysers, CA
6 km (4 miles) WSW (243°) from Cobb, CA***
9 km (6 miles) WNW (294°) from Anderson Springs, CA
    20 km (12 miles) E (87°) from Cloverdale, CA
41 km (25 miles) N (350°) from Santa Rosa, CA
118 km (73 miles) WNW (284°) from Sacramento, CA

***Cobb is where this sort of kicked into high gear for me (getting stuck in the snow near the geysers). I am still waiting for them to finish repairs on my car.

I would be more concerned about a week after full moon.
It's when the moon is at quadreture that it nears our time field closest, and the geometry is of triangles between the sun/earth and moon.

Oh, I do have a car, Linda. My insurance is paying for a nice rental.

This map shows activity in the last hour. As with last night, Southern California seems busier. However, I have not chekced the magnitude of the red spots on the map (you can do that by going to the link and clicking on the color boxes).

If anything hits the Bay Area, my concern would be more about a possible influx of people to this area rather than getting out, which could be made virtually impossible, fairly easily, due to there not being any flat ways to get out of Lake County (with the exception of a slightly less mountainous route TOWARD 101 and closer to the coast). I feel more safe right where I am, believe it or not. It's not like I have not had time to think about it. hehe?

As has been said of this area: this is where people go when they do not want to be found. There is a huge solar industry here, and a lot of people are entirely off of the grid.

Major edits here, 'cause my mind is spinning as it gets brighter outside. It is raining, heavy. And it is cold, which means it is coming from the north. I don't even have to ask.

The best storms come from Hawaii (the "Pineapple Express").

For reasons I do not quite understand, myself, I am not allowed (?) to stock up. Perhaps it is brainwashing, but I cannot get this out of my head: who by worrying can add a single day to their lives? My walk with Jesus has been a long one, and I know better.

All continues to be well...back for a cat nap.

The list for March is quite long, so here is a snippet (California only). "The Geysers" are very close to me, but quakes happen there all the time. Of course, we are in a different window right now, so...

Here is the link to the global seismic data: http://aslwww.cr.usgs.gov/Seismic_Data/heli2.shtml

The south pole looks screwy. Indiana and Tennessee are active as is Russia. Baja California has some activity. All global seismic monitors are active at one level or another. China has some big spikes
    too.

The Wilderness Preserve at Disney World managed to catch the Florida quake being reported. The official word is that there was nothing recorded. Hundreds of people called the police. I'm off to get the link.
