WTF? OMG, LOL! CIA gives WikiLeaks taskforce naughty name - US spy agency forms taskforce to assess fallout from 250,000 leaked US cables
    http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2010/dec/22/cia-wikileaks-taskforce-wtf

The CIA has launched a taskforce to assess the impact of 250,000 leaked US diplomatic cables. Its name? WikiLeaks Task Force, or WTF for short. The group will scour the released documents to survey damage caused by the disclosures. One of the most embarrassing revelations was that the US state department had drawn up a list of information it would like on key UN figures – it later emerged the CIA had asked for the information. "Officially, the panel is called the WikiLeaks Task Force. But at CIA headquarters, it's mainly known by its all-too-apt acronym: WTF," the Washington Post reported. WTF is more commonly associated with the Facebook and Twitter profiles of teenagers than secret agency committees. Given that its expanded version is usually an expression of extreme disbelief, perhaps the term is apt for the CIA's investigation.

American Awakening with former CIA asset Susan Lindauer on Wikileaks a very astute break down of the leaking process. A must listen for anyone who is interested in this story.

Susan Lindauer interview was very interesting and one of the highlights was that perhaps Wikileaks was used without Assange's knowledge as a means to take out Hillary Clinton and leave a free road ahead for the weak president Obama. Susan Lindauer was also the CIA 9/11 insider with all the poop scoop on what really happened.

    WikiLeaks losing money: Assange
    The Washington Post, Agence France-Presse

    Geneva, January 10, 2011

Whistleblower website WikiLeaks has been losing some half a million euros a week since it began publishing confidential United States cables, the founder of the site Julian Assange said in an interview. When asked about the pressure put on him over the website's move, Assange told Swiss newspapers
Tribune de Geneve and 24 Heures: "From a personal point of view, no. I would say that the pressure reinforces my determination.

"But from a financial point of view, it's another matter.

"We have been losing more than $620,053 a week since the start of the publication of the diplomatic cables. To continue our business, we would need to find a way or other to get this money back," he added.

Assange was charged with sex charge in Sweden and has been released on bail in the UK.

    Clinton admits she's Wiki-damaged
US Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, in the Middle East for meetings with Persian Gulf leaders, acknowledged on Sunday that it would take years to undo the damage caused by the WikiLeaks revelations, likening her recent travels to an extended "apology tour" to reassure allies who suffered embarrassment or worse because of the disclosures.

"I think I will be answering concerns about WikiLeaks for the rest of my life, not just the rest of my tenure as secretary of State," Clinton told reporters as she embarked on a five-day visit of Arab countries, many of which were stung by revelations about private talks between American diplomats and regional leaders.
Clinton, who is on her second Middle East trip in less than a month, said she has sought to "affirmatively raise" the WikiLeaks issue in meetings with Arab officials to address the problems head-on.

Some of Iran's Arab neighbors were particularly aggrieved by leaked State Department cables that showed them privately urging the Obama administration to take a harder line against Iran's nuclear ambitions.

Clinton said she had quipped to one of her aides that she needed a tour jacket, similar to the ones used by rock bands, that would have a "big picture of the world and would say 'The Apology Tour'" on it. Although the intensity has abated somewhat, the fallout from the WikiLeaks affair "is still in the atmosphere," she said.

WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange vows to spill more secrets as he fights sex rap in Sweden
Wikileaks wizard Julian Assange vowed Tuesday to spill more secrets even as he fights extradition to Sweden, where he faces sex charges.

"We are stepping up our publishing," a cocky Assange said outside a London courthourse. "Those will shortly be occurring through our newspaper partners around the world - big and small newspapers and some human rights organizations."

A far less confident Assange appears in newly released court papers that lay bare his fears of winding up in Guantanamo Bay - or the electric chair - if he's shipped to Stockholm next month.

"The U.S. will seek his extradition and/or illegal rendition to the U.S.A., where there will be a real risk of him being detained at Guantanamo Bay or elsewhere," his lawyer, Geoffrey Robertson, wrote.

"There is a real risk that he could be made subject to the death penalty," the lawyer added. "It is well-known that prominent figures have implied, if not stated outright, that Mr. Assange should be executed."

The secretive Australian runs a whistle-blower website that has angered Washington by releasing thousands of classified U.S. military documents and diplomatic cables.

Sarah Palin and some conservative pundits have called Assange an "enemy combatant" and called for his head.

A former State Department adviser called Assange's concerns "ridiculous."

"Mr. Assange would not be sent to Guantanamo," John Bellinger told the Associated Press. "He would be prosecuted in U.S. federal court. He would not be treated as an enemy combatant."

Currently free on bail in Great Britain, Assange is fighting extradition over allegations by two Swedish women that he refused to wear a condom during sex - and refused to take an AIDS test.

Assange's lawyer claimed "corrupt" Swedish prosecutors acted illegally by releasing his name to the press and - ironically - leaking evidence against him.

Also, the Swedes did not disclose the text messages between the alleged victims which "speak of revenge and the opportunity to make lots of money," Robertson wrote.

Assange repeatedly offered to sit down with the Swedes and answer their questions, but they refused and went ahead and issued an arrest warrant, the defense lawyer argued.

"Mere suspicion should not found a request for extradition," Robertson wrote.

Assange, who denies the allegations, has suggested the charges were part of an organized "smear campaign" to discredit him and WikiLeaks. He is due back in a London court on Feb. 7 to fight the extradition request.

[bDEA transformed into Global Intelligence Organization - ]Cables Portray Expanded Reach of Drug Agency [/b]

    December 25, 2010

WASHINGTON — The Drug Enforcement Administration has been transformed into a global intelligence organization with a reach that extends far beyond narcotics, and an eavesdropping operation so expansive it has to fend off foreign politicians who want to use it against their political enemies, according to secret diplomatic cables.

In far greater detail than previously seen, the cables, from the cache obtained by WikiLeaks and made available to some news organizations, offer glimpses of drug agents balancing diplomacy and law enforcement in places where it can be hard to tell the politicians from the traffickers, and where drug rings are themselves mini-states whose wealth and violence permit them to run roughshod over struggling governments.

Diplomats recorded unforgettable vignettes from the largely unseen war on drugs: In Panama, an urgent BlackBerry message from the president to the American ambassador demanded that the DEA go after his political enemies: “I need help with tapping phones."

WikiLeaks: Israel said it would keep Gaza 'on brink of collapse'

Israel told US officials in 2008 it would keep Gaza's economy "on the brink of collapse" while avoiding a humanitarian crisis, according to U.S. diplomatic cables published by a Norwegian daily on Wednesday.

Three cables cited by the Aftenposten newspaper, which has said it has all 250,000 U.S. cables leaked to WikiLeaks, showed that Israel kept the U.S. Embassy in Tel Aviv briefed on its internationally criticized blockade of the Gaza Strip.

"As part of their overall embargo plan against Gaza, Israeli officials have confirmed to (U.S. embassy economic officers) on multiple occasions that they intend to keep the Gazan economy on the brink of collapse without quite pushing it over the edge," one of the cables read.
