I was friends with both, Gilgamesh, and Enkidu, the domesticated and the wild and uneducated one. No idea if they were gay; but with me there was no sex. In the epic I identify with Sidurti (tavern wench, kajira*).
His despair, and maybe he was the first who realized "death consciousness", and this is "self-consciousness", was hardly to bear. Death was the theme that kept him permanently busy, and his wish for longevity at least. After Enkidu died he became increasingly obsessed with "quests". Then it was nothing unusual that a ruler frequented a tavern, similar to a Gorean Ubar or Admin.
