In this article from 2005 we see how even in recent times, the Christians attempt to carry on the proselytisation they carried out behind the slipstream of the juggernaut that was the old colonialist and imperialist British Empire.

The church that has brought us continuous bloodthirsty war and persecution, sectarianism,rampant child abuse,the wanton destruction of precious indigenous culture and and religion is still rearing its ugly evangelising head abroad as people in the west abandon its churches in droves. The churches in middle England and the inner cities are emptying rapidly and so once more the christian soldiers are marching onto war into Africa and other continents.

It's time they packed up and went home but then there was always a political agenda tied into the spread of Christianity like most major religions and conflict and unrest usually followed where it went.

On Wednesday, Tarlochan Singh, vice-chairman of the National Commission for Minorities, wrote to the presidents of the Catholic Bishops Council of India and the National Council of Churches in India, citing incidents in Punjab, Bhilai and Jharkhand where “Christian missionaries fully supported with medical teams have been going around in many villages alluring poor Sikh families to adopt Christianity.” Directing the Christian leaders “to desist from this activity” he wrote, “I have been approached by a large number of Sikh organisations to take up this matter. I request you to… adopt a policy not to make further attempts of converting Sikhs through any means.”

It’s good to know the NCM supports a group that’s opposing the Church’s nefarious activity; and comforting that it’s the Sikhs who are rejecting conversion. After all, if the pinkos’ schemes succeed, the remaining Hindus — as per Sikhism’s foundation charter and Hindu “tradition” (read, cowardice) — can once again fall at Sikh feet for protection.

Christians fanatically evangelize. Muslims aren’t into conversion anymore but want Islam to rule all polities, and we know what that entails. Ditto, the Communists with their creed. Ask a Gay his thoughts on the “curing” of nascent homosexuals via psychotherapy, and he, too, will flare up in anger. But the Hindu is the *only* species that not only watches benignly as his own kind diminishes, but also blocks those who resist conversion…

As my friend Amberish Diwanji once put it: “If one converts because doing so accords him respect and gives him a sense of identity and belonging, where is there the question of forcible conversion. If one chooses to follow the faith of those who have helped and are helping him the most, as opposed to those who torment him, can he be faulted? If there are Hindus who are worried by conversions, they should try and redeem Hinduism, go out and serve the tribals and Dalits and the poor. Make the lowest believe that Hinduism too provides balm for the soul, for a poor has little else to ask for.”

That was in 1996. And Amberish didn’t question the “respect” and “sense of belonging” that “Dalit Christians” and “Dalit Muslims” feel. A minor oversight?

But observe the change of tune by “secularists” now: “There is a boy, orphaned since the age of five, who is housed, fed and schooled here just outside New Delhi, free of charge… The school is part of a network of social service organizations that cater to indigenous people and ‘dalits,’ or those on the lowest rungs of the Hindu caste ladder… Across remote villages, it dispatches so-called barefoot doctors armed with first-aid kits and drugs to combat dysentery. It sets up orphanages for the abandoned and hostels for children who must travel long distances to go to school” (The New York Times, May 13). Actually, this article, “Hindu Right Goes To School To Build A Nation,” written by a Bong, is one bashing the RSS for serving the tribals and Dalits and the poor…

But let’s get back to the Sikhs, who’ve learnt from at least one part of their history: After the second Anglo Sikh war, the British exiled the boy Duleep Singh to Fatehgarh, in the care of a British guardian. Unlike previous British rulers, Lord Dalhousie wished to transform India, towards which end he promoted and supported the work of Christian missionaries: Fatehgarh just happened to be a mission. John Login and his wife, who had taken on the parental role in the boy’s life, just happened to be devout Christians. Duleep was encouraged to have two English boys as his closest friends, one of whom just happened to be the son of a missionary. The textbooks he was given just happened to be full of Christian messages. His servant, Bhajan Lal, just happened to be a Christian convert. And Bhajan Lal just happened to read from the Bible to the boy every night. Duleep Singh was, in fact, totally dependent on the goodwill of his prisoners and limited to living in the centre of Christian missionary activity.

What happened next? Exactly what can be expected when missionaries shower the weak with their mercies: The last Sikh ruler of the kingdom of Maharaja Ranjit Singh was surreptitiously converted to Christianity, dispatched to England and resettled near Cambridge, thereby minimising all chances of his becoming a rallying point for the people of Punjab. Next, “A facade of a ceremony was arranged in which the young prince was made to present the famous Koh-i-Noor to Queen Victoria and 13 most valuable relics pertaining to Maharaja Ranjit Singh to the Prince of Wales. The remaining jewellery in the Toshkhana of the Maharaja was either taken over by the British officials or auctioned to public thus putting to an end the glory and grandeur of the mighty empire of a mighty ruler of Punjab” (The Tribune, April 8, 2001).

We know that the exit of British rule did not mean the exit of Christian evangelism – that remains a clear and present danger: “India also has vast areas of more unreached groups – people with no access to the Gospel – than any other country. One such area is the Punjab – home of the Sikhs… Today there is much opportunity for Christian outreach.” So says the Maranatha Gospel Mission based in Bhilai. The same Bhilai that Tarlochan Singh mentioned.

Last week, a Christian dork wrote me, “Adivasis are being re-converted from funds that come in from NRIs and others… but, aren’t they doing exactly what the Christians are doing? But, you seem to justify what the RSS does by saying that the Christians did it… what a hypocrite!”

Actually, I never have justified the RSS’s actions by saddling them with those of the missionaries. Read my lips: I support reconversion and the dissemination of Hindu awareness because I want Hindus to remain Hindu, Jains to remain Jain, Buddhists to remain Buddhist, and Sikhs to remain Sikh. Secondly, because a blunderbuss is no match for a daisy-cutter, the RSS must use the same weapons that missionaries use. So, more power to its fund raising. Where’s the hypocrisy in that?! Regardless of it not being a zero-sum game, I don’t see why I shouldn’t root for Hinduism. Unlike the “secularists,” I’m not ashamed of being a Hindu!

But we all know the reasons for the “secular” anger, right? The synchronized “action alerts” of pinko groups worldwide; the constant slamming of “Hindu nationalists” by the “liberal” media — again, worldwide; the appearance of Kanwal-Rekhi-with-a-Christian-wife before the US Commission on International Religious Freedom; Father Prakash’s deposition against the funding of “Hindu terrorists”… It’s because the Sangh Parivar has been checking the tide of conversion:

“A Hindu organisation has re-converted 37 Adivasis who converted to Christianity, back to Hinduism, at a one-day Vishwa Hindu Sammelan held at Peth, the tribal dominant tehsil town in Nashik district. The sammelan, organised by a recently formed Hindu organisation, Dharmaraksha Samiti, was attended by over 9,000 delegates from all over Maharashtra and neighbouring states.” (UNI, January 6, 1999)

“The first-ever mass reconversion drive organised by the VHP in West Bengal took place in Malda district today as the Marxist government of the state watched helplessly. Amidst fanfare, 500 tribal Christians and 50 Muslims embraced Hinduism as priests chanted mantras and performed the paraavartan yajna.” (rediff.com, March 25, 1999)

In July 2000, seven families, belonging to the Mising community, were reconverted to Hinduism in Majuli. “The Satradhikar also said that originally 300 families had been converted to Christianity and it was likely that many of them would reconvert to their original religion.” (The Asian Age, July 10, 2000)

In February 2001, over 1,300 tribals were reconverted to Hinduism. The reconversion was co-sponsored by the VHP, and was named Sanatan Ghar Vapsi. “Rituals of reconversion began with recitation of hymns by members of 270 families who had earlier adopted Christianity.” (The Tribune, February 13, 2001)

“Hundreds of families who converted to Christianity over 100 years ago and were settled by the British in Haryana villages by giving them land are now shedding their Christian identity in a bid to join the mainstream of rural Haryana. Their younger generation has completely discarded Christian names and reverted to Hindu names… [Joseph] was also honest enough to admit that most of them continued to be Christians because they got preference for admissions to Christian educational institutions and jobs in mission hospitals and schools.” (The Tribune, January 25)

In April, over 20 Christian tribals near Malda re-converted to Hinduism on Baisakhi. “With this, the total number of conversions of the tribesmen to Hinduism from Christianity and other religions in Malda district stood at some 300. The ceremony was conducted at the VHP’s Buddhikamach Chitrakut.” (The Tribune, April 23)

In truth, I do not fear Islam — for its attacks are open, direct and can be fended off with a bit of spine. But Christian evangelists are another can of worms altogether: Not only do they get unlimited financial and political support from the fundamentalists in the US and Europe, including the Vatican, but they also attack with stealth, cunning and persistence.
Take, for instance, the case of the Haryana constables: The state recruited 1,600 police constables in 1995, which recruitment was then challenged in the high court. Subsequently, in 2000, the Supreme Court ruled against the recruitment procedure and hence their services were terminated. Nevertheless, in August 2001, the vice-president of the Haryana Police Employees Union (“Union,” “NGO,” “academic,” “professor,” “documentary maker” usually indicate you-know-what) announced, “If all 1,600 dismissed Haryana police constables were not taken back into service, all of them, who are Hindus, will adopt Christianity…” But that wasn’t all; the sentence ended with: “…and in this regard they are in regular contact with Christian missionary people.”

The British politician did not invent the policy of Divide & Rule, nor did the pinkos — it was handed down to them by the Church. The 1954-instituted Niyogi Commission, while investigating the charge that Christian missionaries had instigated the movement for an independent State, noted in The Report of the Christian Missionaries Enquiry Committee MP, Nagpur, 1956:

On the integration of the States, Missionaries became afraid of losing their influence. So they started an agitation, playing on the religious feelings of the primitive Christian converts, representing the Madhya Pradesh government as consisting of infidels… Some of the articles published in Missionary papers… were hardly distinguishable from the writings in Muslim papers advocating Pakistan before the 15th of August 1947.

The demand for Adiwasisthan was accentuated along with the one for Pakistan in 1938. The Muslim League is reported to have donated Rs 1 lakh for propaganda work. With the advent of political independence in India, the agitation for Adiwasisthan was intensified, with a view to forming a sort of corridor joining East Bengal with Hyderabad, which could be used for a pincer movement against India in the event of a war between India and Pakistan.

This attempt of the Adiwasis initiated by the Christian section thereof is a feature which is common to the developments in Burma, Assam and Indo-China among the Karens, Nagas and Amboynes… But the idea of change of religion as bringing about change of nationality appears to have originated in the Missionary circles… Thus while the Census officer isolates certain sections of the people from the main bodies, the Missionaries, by converting them, give them a separate nationality so that they may demand a separate State for themselves.
Nothing has really changed in India between now and then: The ethos of the politicians is about the same, so is that of the people, and Godse was a villain even then. Even so, the six members of the Niyogi Commission were not harangued and abused as “Hindu fundamentalists.” The difference lies only in the media: Then, opinion makers aired the facts — and not the leftist versions thereof.

Update: The day after I submitted this column, The Hindu reported that 250 villagers were baptised on Saturday by pastors of the Seventh Day Adventist Church at its South Tamil Conference in Madurai. The villagers were asked to affirm their commitment to Christianity and “to donate one-tenth of their monthly earnings for missionary work. Enquiries show that the villagers, mostly below the poverty line, had been brought for baptism with promises of ‘economic emancipation.’ During 2001, the Seventh Day Adventist Church here had converted 1,500 Hindus… According to an organiser of the baptism, the president of Seventh Day Adventist Church, India, DR Watts, a Canadian, had set a ‘tough target’ for the pastors, titled ‘Go 1 million.’ The website, ‘maranatha.org,’ reveals the activities carried out by this congregation throughout the country… where thousands of Hindus were converted.”

No religion, no ideology, no government can guarantee anybody’s “economic emancipation.” If this is not a deceit only to diminish the strength of Hinduism, what is? Get out your checkbooks, guys; we can do better than one-tenth.

How many 'Christians' over the past 2,000 years have actually followed the Teachings Attributed to Jesus?? Perhaps there have been very few genuine Christians. Perhaps there are very few genuine Christians presently. I seem to have identified a problem -- yet I seem to not be living up to what Jesus taught. Not even close. I think I might be in huge trouble because of this -- and because of a lot of reincarnational bad-karma aka karmic-debt. The track-records of politics and religion (of all varieties) have not been very good throughout the centuries. Religious Imperialism Sucks.

The need for proselytisation of any kind shows more of a need for control, power and arrogance rather than an inclination towards spirituality and truth.
Spirituality and truth can never be sold in a salesman like manner or enforced on a peoples. Clearly people try to do this however.

Proselytisation on a grand scale or on a small individual scale as on streets or forums, is the new way of carrying out religious zealousness and often only attracts the weak and gullible upon who these people mostly prey. Religious Cults being particularly expert at this but non so much as the Christian Missions and fundamentalists.

Proselytisation is for example employed heavily by the Mormons who get their converts to tithe 15% of their wages which then go to fund their own banks in Salt Lake City and further Missions into the third world and developing nations where they spread their message of Planet Kolob.

The Christians, hand in hand with their Imperialist sponsors were perhaps and still are the worst culprits. They are the religious equivalent of the logging companies in South America destroying the rain forests. They have been responsible for the controlled eradication of indigenous spirituality and culture for centuries.
That is why they, along with Judaism have also been waging a propaganda war against movements that stood against the religious and cultural destruction of Ceylon, Tibet, India and other more recent non christian spiritual paths including revivalist nature religions along with Islamic traditions. The last thirty years has seen a vigorous online propaganda campaign against these groups as it where. The religious zealot has a lot to learn.

IMO they (Christian churches and its various missions) are global criminals just like the banksters. The good news is is that in western countries people are turning their backs on it. The churches are emptying and closing. The Heaven or Hell rule by fear myth which they are now threatening the Thai's, Indonesians and Africans with is no longer working on western man. The cultural revolution of the 1960s and earlier movements helped to liberate our consciousness from the grip of the fear based and controlling Churches. They are also getting less of our money.

Where ever the white man goes the bible goes. Wherever the bible goes the local religions and cultures are attacked and often eliminated. Funny you mention North Korea. In South Korea the various christian missionaries have already helped to demote the country's indigenous Buddhist religion to a secondary practice.

I think if people want to study the bible they should do it at home or at church or whatever and that's fine. Its a private personal thing. The Churches and shouldn't use the bible as a brick hitting entire nations over the head with it frightening the 'poor savages' with their dogma and civilising them in the name of Christ Amen.

The issue we are dealing with here however is the destruction of entire cultures and religions via the backdoor by so called christian missionaries. Not to mention the manipulation of Governments. Alas! The white mans lot.

Its pretty disgusting really but the least that we can expect from them.

In the Gospels, Jesus is both friend and foe of the church. I feel as if I am both friend and foe of the church. My thoughts about church and state -- over the past five years -- have been rather upsetting to me. I have tried to formulate solutions -- but the solutions scare me almost as much as the problems. I don't think there are any clean, neat, and happy solutions to the mess we're in. If the bad guys and gals are in charge -- we're in trouble. If the good guys and gals take over -- we'll still be in trouble -- and possibly in even more trouble. It's sort of like an inoperable brain tumor. One can see the damn thing on the CAT Scan -- but still be unable to do a damn thing about it. How do we remove the problems -- without destroying our civilization??? As I have said so many times, I have a very bad feeling about both Divinity and Humanity -- and I certainly don't see things improving anytime soon. Cleaning-up the solar system might make things worse (at least in the short-term) -- and the Human Race might not survive (by accident or design). I feel as if I need to think about something else. I seem to be digging a deeper and deeper grave for myself. One has to know when to stop -- and I think I drove right through the last dozen stop-signs.

I think we are all aware of the greed, arrogance and destruction carried out by the Chhristian Church and missions under imperialist Spain the Portuguese zealots and the Missions to Africa and so on.

What people are generally less aware of is the assault on Buddhism and Hindu religions in Ceylon (now Sri Lanka) and India last century but still continuing today, in addition to Islam in Indonesia and Africa.

The new money comes to fund the missions to destroy the local religious and philosophical traditions comes not only from various churches but also wealthy individuals and NGO's!

The following is an incomplete listing of defamations, acts of vandalism and arson attacks against Buddhist temples and facilities in South Korea which have occurred since 1982 and which have earned the attention of the news media and the dismay of the Buddhist population in the country.

Buddhism under Siege 1982-1996 : Fifteen Years of Incidents Against Buddhism in South Korea including at least twenty temples or Buddhist shrines seriously damaged or totally destroyed by arson since 1986.

1982 May.A man by the name of Myông Chinhong organizes religious gatherings in Seoul to publicly denounce Buddhism. He erects a banner "Jesus Heaven, Buddhism Hell!" He claims to have once been a Buddhist monk who has "repented," though no records can be found to support the claim of his ordination. Using this claim, he puts up posters claiming: "A Dharma Hall is a hall of demons."

1983 March 1. During a Christian revival meeting held on the occasion of Korean Independence Day observations, a woman falsely claims to have been the daughter of a famous Zen master and revered national independence hero, Paek Yongsông. She makes statements denouncing Buddhism.

1984 February. Red crucifixes are painted on priceless temple wall paintings at Muryangsa Temple and Ilsônsa on Samgaksan Mountain outside Seoul. Dirt is smeared on the paintings and on a statue of the Buddha located outside one of the temples. A large ancient carving of the Buddha chiselled into stone is damaged with axe-like instruments.

May. Ignoring the pleas of Buddhist leaders, the Roman Catholic Church invites Pope John Paul II to visit South Korea to celebrate the bicentennial of the church in Korea. This event happens to fall during the annual national Buddha's Birthday holiday celebrations. Because it is the first ever visit of a Roman pontiff to South Korea, and because the Vatican announces that 93 Koreans and 10 French missionary martyrs will be beatified as saints during the visit, the visit becomes a major national event. It is the first time that a canonization ceremony is held outside of Rome and the largest number ever canonized at one time. This ceremony gives Korea the fourth largest number of Catholic saints in the world. When the Pope tours the country, in the days immediately preceding and during Buddha's Birthday, there are immense traffic jams which diminish attendance at Buddhist events in several key cities. Buddhist leaders protest the timing of the event as "disrespectful" and "in bad taste" because the Korean and Roman Catholic Churches schedule the mass beatification ceremonies to take place during Buddha's Birthday celebrations, a day sacred to Buddhists and a national holiday.

November. In an official Korean textbook, Buddhism is called " a fading religion."

1985 April. Four major daily newspapers accept and publish advertisements which assert that the content of the Buddhist scriptures are "selfish" in intent.

May. A Protestant minister named Kim Jingyu publicly claims to have once been an ordained monk in the Chogye Order. Though there is no record of his ever having been a Buddhist monk, he hangs up banners which read "Why I Became a Protestant Minister," and organizes meetings to denounce the Buddhist faith.

September. An individual by the name of Kim Sônghwa organizes a series of mass gatherings to denounce Buddhism in the cities of Pusan, Taegu, Kwangju, and Taejon. (This individual and his wife Kim Mija regularly advertise their mission to convert the "25 million Buddhists of Korea" in the Christian Newspaper Kitokkyo Shinmun, July 1996).

October. An unidentified man disrupts a Dharma talk at the Nûngin Zen Center by driving nails into the tires of believers' automobiles parked outside. The perpetrator also pours corrosive chemicals into various car engines. An accomplice meanwhile uses portable amplification equipment to sing Gospel songs up at the Buddhist gathering, located on the third and fourth floors.

1986 December 6. Several days before the annual Buddha's Enlightenment celebrations, the Taejôkkwangjôn, the main Dharma Hall, a large building of ancient origin at Kûmsansa Temple is completely burned to the ground in an event which makes top news throughout the nation. The Hall is listed as National Treasure Number 476, and is the central hall in a temple which is a regional headquarters and major monastic training center for the Chogye Order. A man active in a local church is apprehended at the scene, but is released because the police claim that, since the fire consumed everything, there is "no evidence." Although he admitted to the crime, he is released without being charged. Discounting widespread opinion and belief, local police claim that "religious heretics" are not suspected. However, in an unprecedented move, the Korean government pays to have the building quickly rebuilt. It is widely believed that this unusual action was undertaken to preempt the possibility of interreligious strife.

1987 December. A fundamentalist Christian by the name of Yang Shinha from the Tamna Church on Chejudo Island is apprehended after setting fire to two temples - Kwanûmjôngsa and Taegaksa - completely burning them to the ground.

1988 September 25. In the early morning hours, a fire is set at Pômôsa Temple in Pusan, a major monastic training center of the Chogye Order and regional headquarters. The fire completely destroys the Myôngbujôn (Chijang Bodhisattva Hall- a funeral hall), taking with it 16 priceless altar paintings of the Buddha. The paintings were considered treasures and the hall a registered Cultural Asset. The cause of the fire is unknown but deemed "highly suspicious" by Pusan city authorities.

December 8. Several days before the annual Buddha's Enlightenment celebrations, the Chônggagwôn, the main Dharma Hall on the Kyôngju campus of Dongguk University is completely burned to the ground. Arson is suspected but no one is apprehended.

1989 January. A stone lantern and pagoda is destroyed and statements attacking Buddhism are painted on the temple's gates Okch'ôn Am Hermitage located in the Sôdaemun (Hongûndong), Seoul.

March. Several individuals enter Kupok Am Hermitageon Samgaksan Mountain on the outskirts of Seoul and destroy a stone lantern and stone pagoda, seriously damage a Ch'ilsônggak (Big Dipper Hall), and paint red crucifixes on a large gilded Buddha statue.

April. Five to six individuals destroy a Buddha statue and paint red crucifixes on a large outdoor Ma-ae Buddha figure carved into the rock on Samgaksan Mountain on the outskirts of Seoul. In all, some 10 temples are severely damaged or desecrated in the days immediately before and after the national Buddha's Birthday holidays.

April. The Hyangmok Committee of the Seoul City Government gathers military reserve forces under its control for a (taesônghoe) church service. Some of the members are compelled to attend even though they are not Christian.

July 29. The huge main Dharma Hall and a temple dormitory at Potasa Temple, Oksudong, Sôngdonggu, Seoul are completely burned to the ground. A 23-year old follower of the Taesônjillihoe (Great Conversion Truth Church) is arrested at the scene. Damage is estimated at $1.1 million according to the Chogye Order report.

October 27. The huge Taeunjôn, the main Dharma Hall, and a temple dormitory at Pohyônsa Temple in Taegu are completely burned to the ground. Though the modern buildings were erected in 1985, the police determine that each building must have suffered an "electrical short circuit," and no further investigations are conducted.

1990 May 2. Two men break into the Buddhist Broadcasting System (BBS, the first Buddhist radio station in Korea) in Seoul, two days before it is due to begin broadcasting a combination of popular music and Buddhist teaching and cultural programs. They tie up two guards, and proceed to destroy all of the radio station's recording and transmission equipment. They smash expensive electronic gear and tear up several state-of-the-art recording booths. At one point, they use a statue of the Buddha as a battering ram to break through several plate-glass recording booth windows and use the Buddha's head to damage computer equipment, sound boards, reel-to-reel decks, and screens. Damage is estimated in the millions of dollars, and delays the opening of the station by several months. No arrests are ever made.

November. A man by the name of Myông Chinhong falsely claims to have been a Buddhist monk some 20 years before, and organizes mass spiritual revivals under the heading, "Why I Became a Minister." In the course of his "revivals," this purported "ex-monk-turned minister" makes inflammatory and abusive statements about the Buddhism. There is no record of his ever having been ordained a monk, or living in any temple. (See May 1982)

Students and parishioners at a Christian theological school in Pusan misinterpret an ancient, traditional Buddhist death ceremony as being "slanderous" of Jesus Christ. The name of the ceremony, for many centuries called "Yesu-jae," sounds similar to the Korean pronunciation and Korean spelling of "Jesus" (Yesu), though the Chinese characters are unrelated to Christian vocabulary or sacraments. (It is a traditional merit-making ceremony in anticipation of death). The students and parishioners mail a letter of "warning" to Buddhist leaders at several area temples, schools, and organizations. The letters slander Buddhist teachings, and are plastered on the walls of Buddhist temples and organizations throughout the city of Pusan.

1991 April. Yun Ch'anggyu and Shim Yôngch'o, teachers at the Taesông High School in Kôch'ang, direct their students (many of them Buddhist) to recite Biblical passages and sing Christian hymns in class. In the same month, the Buddha statue of the Buddhist student club at Ch'ôngju University is vandalized.

Sept. 23. Pudo Am Hermitage at Tonghwasa Temple is destroyed by fire.

October. The huge main Dharma Hall (Taeunjôn) at Pongwônsa Temple in the Shinch'on district of Seoul is totally destroyed by fire. The hall was registered as Seoul city Cultural Asset Number 68. This temple was the headquarters of the T'aego Order, the second-largest Buddhist sect in Korea at the time of the incident. A guard at the temple testified to seeing two men flee into the mountains behind the temple as the building burst into flames. Local police conclude that there is no evidence, that there was probably an "electrical short circuit," and the fire was quickly declared "an accident." Three large Buddha statues and altar portraits considered treasures are destroyed.

November. Military reserves stationed in Kyôngnam Province (many of them Buddhist) are forced to attend a Protestant revival meeting, presumably by a superior officer.

The Kwanûmjôn, the Kwanûm Bodhisattva Hall and a large Dharma Teaching Hall (Sôlpôpchôn) at Sôngjusa in Changwôn city are completely burned to the ground.

P'yo Ch'ajong, a member of the Pedel Church in Pusan, publicly declares that the world-famous Sôkkuram Buddha statue is a subject of "idol-worship" and the product of "a heretical religion". He attempts to damage the priceless statue, but is stopped. The Sokkuram Buddha was declared a "World Cultural Treasure" by Unesco in 1995, and has twice been renovated and preserved with Unesco financial and technical involvement.

1992 April. The Main Dharma Hall on the Kyôngju campus of Dongguk University is completely burned to the ground a second time. The event makes national news. No arrests are made.

December. An unknown assailant cuts the two arms off a statue of Maitreya Buddha at Puljosa Temple in Wonju. Various temple artifacts are burned and over 100 threatening phone calls are made to the temple office.

1993 February. Colonel (battalion commander) Cho Pyôngshik of the 17th Tank Battalion, claiming a lack of warehouse space, has the Dharma Hall on his base dismantled. The gilded statue of the Buddha is taken from the Hall, burned, and openly discarded behind the mountain. Taejon. The event makes national news.

April. Within two months of Cho's actions, the Dharma Hall and stone lantern are damaged at Kimhae Air Base.

The Yôngdo Church in Pusan organizes to prevent a temple from being built beside them, claiming that they "cannot accept the construction of a place of idol worship" near them.

May. At Hyundai High School, all students are required to attend church services, and their attendance at these services is reflected in their school records.

Lee Yun-sun, a teacher at the Paegun Primary School in Uidong, Seoul, teaches the Christian Bible in his class and declares that any Buddhist children in the class are "followers of the Satan," and excludes them from certain class activities.

Professor Im In-hûi rejects the admission application of a Buddhist student. He claims he was only following the orders of the board chairman of Taejôn Junior College Lee Pyông-ik.

Lotus lanterns prepared for Buddha's Birthday celebrations are destroyed at Pongguksa Temple and Chonjôngsa Temple in the Chôngnûng district of Seoul.

July. An assailant severely damages the Buddha statue and other Buddhist artifacts in a Buddhist meeting room at Sônggyungwan University in Seoul. Valuable religious objects are not stolen but thrown into a garbage basket.

1994 May. Before and after Buddha's Birthday, various acts of vandalism and desecration are inflicted upon the properties (especially the richly painted gates) of Daesôngsa Temple and Kwanûmsa Temple in the Saegômjông and Shinch'on districts of Seoul. Approximately 30 acts of vandalism against Buddhist temples in Seoul are recorded during this period.

The Rev. Yu Sûng-hwan of Yuchongni Church declares that Buddhism is "idol worship." He forcibly attempts to "convert" the abbot of Sudosa Temple to Christianity, even mentioning Korean President Kim Young-sam, a Presbyterian.

According to Dr. Pyôn Sôn-hwan, "the thoughtless speech and behavior of this minister who understood that the government was protecting Christianity simply because Kim Young Sam is an elder and the alleged remark by the President that he would make 'hymn songs reverberate throughout the Blue House' at the time of the presidential election damaged confidence in the government that was supposedly based on the principle of religion and state (politics).

June. A fundamentalist Christian enters Mirûk Chôngsa Temple in Kwangju and damages the Buddha statue and Dharma Hall.

1995 September. A fundamentalist Christian by the name of Pak Oh-Sun is apprehended after entering and causing serious damage to five temples on Chejudo. He burns Buddha statues at the temples, in addition to other damage.

A Protestant minister is apprehended after painting a large red cross onto the altar painting behind the Buddha at Mu-ûi sa Temple in Kangjin, Chollanamdo. He is released without charges. Later an unknown person carves a crucifix below the same Buddha image.

1995-96. Students belonging to a fundamentalist Christian group begin an aggressive campaign of proselytizing on the campus of Dongguk University (Seoul), Korea's main Buddhist university. The students proselytize directly in front of a large statue of the Buddha - the campus symbol and central meeting-point - making anti-Buddhist statements and handing out Christian literature to ordained sangha members.

1996. President Kim Young Sam attends services at a Protestant church located on the nation's central military base at Kyeryôngsan Mountain. In an event which sends shock waves throughout Buddhist and Catholic circles in Korea, many troops based there are compelled to attend the service in order to create the appearance of a larger number of Protestant troops. (Many of the troops are not Protestant Christians, and many are not even Christian.) Moreover, people attending services at a nearby temple and Catholic church are placed under virtual "house arrest," their religious sanctuaries being encircled with troops while the President makes what is deemed a "preferential" visit to the Protestant chapel. Those inside the Buddhist temple and Catholic church were made to remain inside for several hours while President Kim completed his visit. Buddhist and Catholic leaders lodge strong protests. Some Buddhist leaders perceive the President's actions as a license, a virtual "green light" for abusive actions to be taken against them, citing the centuries-old tradition in Korea of leaders signalling, through thinly-veiled actions, the unstated "allowances" that the government will make for actions which coincide with "non-legislateable" policies.

1996. The long-awaited tentative plans related to the new Education Law are announced by the government's Education Reform Committee. The plans are based on the educational system of the Renewal Church of Christ, and include plans to establish (with government money) a special graduate school for the education and training of Christian ministers. Buddhists lodge strong protests, which are initially ignored. Eventually the Committee agrees to restate their objectives at a later date.

TheWônmi ward office of Puch'on city near Seoul sends official letters to several Buddhist kindergartens, primary schools, and other Buddhist organizations and temples. Language in the letters beseeches them to find "the peace of God and the comfort of Jesus Christ.

The swastika - for centuries a symbol of good fortune throughout Asia, and also a Buddhist symbol of the same - is replaced on many flagpoles in Seoul with crucifixes.

A large red crucifix is painted in a concrete shelter used by Buddhist monks for meditation, located one hundred meters above Hwagyesa Temple on Samgaksan Mountain on the outskirts of Seoul.

A school teacher by the name of "Lee" at Songwu Primary School in P'och'ôn, Kyônggi Province, urges students to attend church services as part of their lessons. She forces them to sing certain Christian hymns in class to confirm their attendance, and does other "missionary work" in her capacity as schoolteacher.

April 6. Fires are set to the Abbot's quarters, the lawn (dried from the recent spell) and nine other places (out-buildings) at Pulguksa Temple in Kyôngju, the most famous Buddhist temple in Korea, seen on travel posters everywhere.

According to the report filed with the headquarters of the Chogye Order, a Mr. Kim Yông-shik was caught on the spot and reported to the police. The police transferred him to a Taegu city mental hospital. Although he admitted to the crime as "a follower of another religion," he was released without being charged because there was no material evidence.

April 19. Two temples on Samgaksan Mountain on the outskirts of Seoul are severely damaged by fires which are set within an hour of each other. The two-year-old large bell platform at Samsông Am Hermitage is burned to its foundation. The assailant(s) also cause damage to the Main Dharma Hall, burning holes in the locked doors while trying to gain access to the sanctuary containing the temple's main Buddha statue. Damage to the ruined bell platform is estimated at $250,000 according to police.

April 20. Two recently-constructed Dharma Halls at Pônwôn Chôngsa Temple are burnt to the ground, and another is severely damaged by flames, just after midnight. The Nahanjôn enshrined 519 wood statues of arhats and bodhisattvas, each of which was painstakingly hand-carved and hand-painted over a period of seven years. Damage at Pônwôn Chôngsa Temple is estimated at $5.6 million according to the local police. The unfinished buildings were not insured.

April 21. The next day, fire is set to the Taejôkkwangjôn, the main Dharma Hall at Hwagyesa Temple, also located on Samgaksan Mountain, within a short walk of Samsông Am Hermitage and Pônwôn Chôngsa Temple. Damage is minimal. Two police guarding the temple fail to catch the assailant, who is interrupted in his task when a monk spots him while walking to the outhouse. (1st attack on Hwagyesa, home of the Seoul International Zen Center and living quarters of more than twenty North American and European monks and disciples of most successful Korean Buddhist international teacher, Master Seung Sahn (Haengwôn Sûngsan sônsa).

May 12. Arsonists attack the main Buddha statue in the Taejôkkwangjôn at Hwagyesa Temple in Seoul for the second time. A lit candle is placed in a box of papers and wisk brooms under the main altar. The fire is quickly extinguished by a passing monk. At the time, more than 30 police and army are patrolling the temple in plainclothes in broad daylight, but fail to apprehend the assailant. (2rd attack on Hwagyesa)

May 14. Two days later, again with over 30 police and military patrolling the temple, a massive fire is set beneath the main Buddha statue in the Taejôkkwangjôn at Hwagyesa Temple in Seoul for the third time. Superb altar paintings, ornate woodcarvings and traditional wall paintings are lost. Damage estimated at about $775,000 according to the police.
(3rd attack, 1 building seriously damaged).

May. Rev. Pae Sông-ho, a Protestant minister, enters the main Buddha Hall at Ch'ôngryongsa Temple in Chinhae on the southern coast of the peninsula. He swings a microphone over his head like a bolo, smashing the main Buddha statue and damaging beyond repair the altar paintings hanging behind the main altar. Witnesses who apprehend him hear him shouting abusive statements about "idol worship" and that "now [he] will go to heaven for destroying these craven images." Though taken into custody by police, the minister is released within hours with no charges filed by the local authorities. Damage to the Dharma Hall is extensive.

May 22. Two days before Buddha's Birthday, the main Dharma Hall at Mangyông Am Hermitage in Sôngnam, a city bordering Seoul, is burned to the ground. Christian fundamentalists active in the area are suspected but not investigated.

Christianisation was the third force of colonialism as best expressed by Jomo Kenyatta, the late Kenyan leader, who said:

“When the white man came he had the bible we had the land. Then he said ‘let us close our eyes and pray’. When we opened our eyes we had the Bible he had the land.”

The church was well and truly involved in the subjugation and exploitation of the people in the colonies, and also had financial interests in the colonial system. It is well-known that the first bank that dealt in multi-currency dealings was the Vatican, to bankroll the money it acquired from the various countries. Colonialism has now been overtaken by Neo-Colonialism, but the part played by the church has not changed. Exploitation can only be continued if the natural cohesion in societies is disrupted by groups aligned to foreign forces. This is the aim of conversion.

I tend to think that it goes way, way back in history -- and way, way beyond this little world. I am very interested in where the Teachings Attributed to Jesus REALLY originated. As you know, I have done a lot of Archangelic-Speculation -- and I suspect Archangels in Conflict -- with these teachings representing at least part of One Archangelic Perspective. The Historical Jesus might be a mixture of fact and fiction -- but the 'Christian Church' certainly has not reflected what Jesus taught in the Gospels. I am more distressed about all of this than you can imagine.

Back in 2008 the Indian government were looking at ways to tackle the coercive prosetylistaion of the various christian missionaries. These tactics are banned in some countries who view them as a subversive attempt to westernise countries for religio political reasons whilst eliminating local tradition and culture.

Coercive prosetylistaion, or coercive conversion, is a tactic also employed by cults and new religious movements. In some instances it is known as 'love bombing' Some hindus have converted back to their native religion after undergoing psychological trauma of the persuasive conversion methods in similar to a rehabilitating former cult member.

Another way of saying Coercive prosetylistaion is the gradual and persistent enforcement of religious ideology using various methodologies.



BHUBANESWAR: The BJP on Wednesday rejected the idea of a ban on religious conversion and said any move against conversions must not become a campaign against any community.

Asked by reporters whether conversion should be banned in the country as demanded by various outfits, Mr. Advani said, “No. In a country like India, it should not be legally prohibited though some countries like Indonesia have banned conversion. Even laws in some countries provide for the death penalty for conversion.”

Many leaders, including Mahatma Gandhi, were opposed to religious conversion but when it came to banning it legally, the matter was discussed at various fora, including the Constituent Assembly, he said.

In India, there is no legal prohibition of conversion though in some States past Congress governments had enacted laws to prevent conversions through coercion, inducement, and allurement, Mr. Advani said. Conversions done voluntarily as per procedures of these laws were recorded in these States.

Mr. Advani, however, strongly advocated a free debate to build a firm national consensus against proselytisation through coercion, inducement, or by vilifying any faith. “Time has come for a free and frank democratic debate and inter-faith dialogue on the issue of religious conversion with a view to building a firm national consensus against proselytisation using methods of coercion or inducements or by vilifying any faith,” he said. Mr. Advani, however, made it clear that any campaign against conversions cannot and must not become a campaign against any community.

Given the close ties between political agendas and aggressive Christian conversion in the non white world over the years it will be of no surprise to imagine the ties between various intelligence services and Christian missionaries. Establishing a direct link between missionaries, US AID, the CIA and other intelligence agencies like the NSA, is not a very difficult task. The question for the Black electorate, in the Western Hemisphere and Africa is how such a history impacts on the monopoly of thought that Christian Solidarity International has obtained over the issue of the Sudan, influencing members of the US Congress and the British parliament, as well as White Conservatives and Black Civil Rights leaders?

The recent emergence of the relationship between the mainstream media, elected officials, White conservatives, Black civil rights leaders, a Sudanese opposition group (SPLA/M), and a Christian human rights organization, Christian Solidarity International (CSI), caused us to reflect over a long history of covert relationships between US and foreign intelligence agencies and Christian missionaries. One of the best examples of such was the relationship between the famous Wycliffe Bible Translators and the CIA. The relationship was documented in a book, Thy Will Be Done, written in the 1990s.

According to Gerard Colby and Charlotte Dennett, the association between the intelligence community and Christian missionaries predates the public emergence of the CIA. In Thy Will Be Done, they write of the Wycliffe Bible Translator's (also known as the Summer Institute of Linguistic -SIL) and its founder William Cameron Townsend's (also known as "Cam") association with the intelligence community...

"As souls ascended to heaven in the flight against Satan, many clergy became direct collaborators with the CIA. One member of the Christian and Missionary Alliance (C&MA) was proud of this collaboration. William Carlsen, a missionary in northeastern Thailand, considered it " a privilege to share information with responsible agencies of the government where they seek us out." Carlsen gave an eight-hour briefing to the CIA on Thailand's tribal areas when he returned home for a furlough. Most C&MA missionaries did likewise, according to a CIA source. Most of the information gleaned was about people, their actions, opinions, and grievances."

And verily they that are of the sons of Levi, who receive the office of the priesthood, have a commandment to take tithes of the people according to the law, that is, of their brethren, though they come out of the loins of Abraham: But he whose descent is not counted from them received tithes of Abraham, and blessed him that had the promises" (Hebrews 7:5-6).

If therefore perfection were by the Levitical priesthood, (for under it the people received the law,) what further need was there that another priest should rise after the order of Melchisedec, and not be called after the order of Aaron? For the priesthood being changed, there is made of necessity a change also of the law" (Hebrews 7:11-12).

The author of the Epistle to the Hebrews in the New Testament discussed this subject considerably, listing the following reasons for why the priesthood of Melchizedek is superior to the Aaronic priesthood:

Abraham paid tithes to Melchizedek; later, the Levites would receive tithes from their countrymen. Since Aaron was in Abraham's loins then, it was as if the Aaronic priesthood were paying tithes to Melchizedek. (Heb. 7:4-10)
The one who blesses is always greater than the one being blessed. Thus, Melchizedek was greater than Abraham. As Levi was yet in the loins of Abraham, it follows that Melchizedek is greater than Levi. (Heb. 7:7-10)
If the priesthood of Aaron were effective, God would not have called a new priest in a different order in Psalm 110. (Heb. 7:11)
The basis of the Aaronic priesthood was ancestry; the basis of the priesthood of Melchizedek is everlasting life. That is, there is no interruption due to a priest's death. (Heb. 7:8,15-16,23-25)
Christ, being sinless, does not need a sacrifice for his own sins. (Heb. 7:26-27)
The priesthood of Melchizedek is more effective because it required a single sacrifice once and for all (Jesus), while the Levitical priesthood made endless sacrifices. (Heb. 7:27)
The Aaronic priests serve (or, rather, served) in an earthly copy and shadow of the heavenly Temple, which Jesus serves in. (Heb. 8:5)

Organized religions are inherently POLITICAL organizations. There is a fundamental difference between the financial enterprise and political machinations of an organized religion versus a mass of independent unaffiliated believers, philosophers, and mystics who do not support any organized religion.
Christianity and Islam are known as proselytizing religions because they make an organized and systemic effort to gain converts, and they often provide services, products, or employment to attract converts. Judaism, Hinduism, and Buddhism show far less zeal about gaining converts, which is why you almost never hear about Jewish, Hindu, or Buddhist missionaries.


Modern medical and nursing schools usually teach their students the moral principle that the provision of medical services should never be used as a means to proselytize or promote a religion, but that does not deter many Christian health care providers from doing exactly that. Most of the medical and charitable organizations based in Christian countries are fronts for Christian proselytizing activities.


One of the largest international medical relief organizations based in the USA, Northwest Medical Teams, states in their recruitment brochure that their chief “mission” is to “spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ”, that their medical relief services are subordinate to their stated goal of proselytizing Christianity, and that their medical relief work is merely an “aegis”, or facade, for spreading Christianity.


The religious and cultural Imperialism performed by missionaries nearly always goes hand-in-hand with political and economic Imperialism. Christian missionaries often work in partnership with the CIA, with the US government, and with wealthy corporations to subvert the religion, the culture, the economy, and the politics of vulnerable indigenous populations. The CIA often uses planes owned by Christian missionary organizations and flown by Christian missionary pilots to smuggle drugs, arms, and prisoners.
During the CIA’s illegal Iran/Contra scam of the 1980s, Christian missionary pilots and planes smuggled drugs into the USA and arms into Central America and Iran. Now the CIA is using Christian missionary planes to smuggle heroin from Afghanistan, cocaine from Latin America, and for “rendition” flights of “Terrorist” prisoners to secret prisons that practice torture and commit extra-judicial executions.


The USA’s Faith Based Initiative law provides Christian missionary organizations with taxpayer funds that are used to proselytize Christianity to indigenous populations throughout the world. Christian missionaries are the leading edge of a religious, cultural, economic, and political aggression supported by the US government."
