Carol, how are you doing weatherwise?? Looks like +15F high and -8F low. Lots of snow where I am, and a waterpipe broke in my house, but I fixed it. Other parts of the world are much worse. So much for global warming...

Hi Oxy. Below freezing temperatures and lots of snow. Several feet on the roof. We're expecting another 4-5 days of snow next week. Spouse just got the car stuck in it heading down the road and needed assistance getting unstuck. He came back home for the 4-wheel drive truck.
The house doors get frozen shut and we have to use the hair drier to unstick them. Same for the car. We have quite a few wild turkeys and deer in our front yard as we leave food for them.
I'm sorry to hear about water pipe and good for you being so handy.
It's nice a warm in front of the fire.. so I'm now reading through the Wheel of Time. 14 books in all. Just started book 2. I did listen to all 14 CD books in 2014. Amazon Prime just started with a series featuring the first book. The sequel won't be out until Nov 22. Rather then wait it seemed like a good time to read them given that we are literally snowed in.
Weather is going to be intense in a number of areas. Here, it snows. Beautiful. Looks like Narnia outside.

Thank-you, Carol. You always seem well prepared (in all matters). Where have we heard "Fast Moving Fires" before?? DEW?? I just finished a two-hour walk in the snow. It was beautiful. I might read a lot of books by Howard Fast. I'm looking for The Immigrants 1978 TV mini-series, but it's difficult to find. The hard copy books are hard to find. Many are on Kindle. Sorry about your cold, Carol. Thank-you for the information. I usually use Amazon, but the searches for Howard Fast seemed strangely blocked. I found the video elsewhere.

Don't know what started that fire. That everything in that area is a tinderbox this time of the year is a surprise. I don't recall those types of fires in winter.

TSUNAMI ADVISORYThe National Tsunami Warning Center has issued a TSUNAMI ADVISORY for the Washington and Oregon Coast, due to a large underwater volcanic eruption near Tonga around 830pm Fri PST.
A tsunami advisory is in effect for the West Coast of the United States after a volcano erupted in the Pacific. "A tsunami has been confirmed and some impacts are expected," the National Weather Service's National Tsunami Warning Center said early Saturday.
A tsunami advisory — meaning "a dangerous wave is on the way" — is in effect for the following areas stretching from southern California to Alaska, according to the warning center:
The California coast from the California-Mexico border to the Oregon-California border, including San Francisco Bay.
The Oregon coast from the Oregon-California border to the Oregon-Washington border, including the Columbia River estuary coast.
The outer coast of Washington state from the Oregon-Washington border to Slip Point, Columbia River estuary coast, and the Juan de Fuca Strait coast.
The north coast of British Columbia, and Haida Gwaii, the central coast and northeast Vancouver Island, the outer west coast of Vancouver Island, the Juan de Fuca Strait coast.
The inner and outer coast of Southeast Alaska from the BC-Alaska border to Cape Fairweather, Alaska.
South Alaska and the Alaska Peninsula: Pacific coasts from Cape Fairweather, Alaska, to Unimak Pass, Alaska.
Aleutian Islands: Unimak Pass, Alaska, to Attu, Alaska including the Pribilof Islands.
An advisory was also issued for Hawaii, where boats were reportedly moved out of the water by the tsunami and onto docks. "A tsunami is currently being observed by all Islands' Emergency Management," the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center tweeted earlier. "We are relieved that there is no reported damage and only minor flooding through-out the islands."

At least two people have died as winter storm Izzy - nicknamed the 'Saskatchewan screamer' - unleashed fury across the US, dumping over a foot of snow across the Midwest and South East before barrelling up the East Coast today.
The brutal storm has already caused chaos across much of the country, bringing tornadoes, heavy snowfall, power outages for 260,000 and cancelations of over 3,000 flights, but now the extreme weather is headed for New York and the North East, with torrents of snow, sleet and rain triggering widespread flood warnings.
Much of upstate New York, northern Ohio, Virginia, northern Pennsylvania, Maine and New Hampshire will see up to a foot of snow today before the storm recedes, according to FOX weather, with areas of higher elevation expected to see as much as two feet of snow as the Weather Channel reported many communities could be brought to a 'standstill'.
The storm is also expected to cause some coastal flooding, and the National Weather Service (NWS) warned that winds could near hurricane force on the Atlantic coast. Most of the New York City area, including parts of New Jersey, is under a coastal flood warning or advisory, the Weather Service said.
The Ohio Department of Transportation tweeted overnight: 'If travel is not necessary, stay home.' The department said it has dispatched more than 880 crews clearing snow and treating roadways across Ohio in a desperate attempt to keep the state moving.
NYC Governor Kathy Hochul gave New Yorkers a stern warning: 'Please stay home. But if your work requires you to be out or you have to be somewhere, make sure that you are fortified even in your own vehicle with food and water and whatever else you may need, including blankets or clothing.'
Virginia, Georgia, and North and South Carolina meanwhile have all declared states of emergency as workers attempting to clear debris and restart public transport reel from the brutal conditions.
Areas such as central Mississippi and central North Carolina received around nine inches of snow over the weekend, while parts of central South Carolina had up to a half-inch of ice, according to the NWS.
Two people died when their car went off road and collided with trees in Raleigh, North Carolina, yesterday. They were pronounced dead at the scene.
First Sgt. Christopher Knox, a North Carolina Highway Patrol spokesperson, said investigators believe the car was driving too fast for the treacherous conditions. The spokesperson also reported that highway patrol had responded to 300 car crashes and nearly 800 calls for service by yesterday afternoon.
More than 80 million people have fallen under the winter weather alerts across various states.
It comes as airlines throughout the nation canceled more than 2,700 flights on Sunday, with another 1,500 flights delayed and subsequently cancelled over the Martin Luther King Jr holiday weekend, according to FlightAware.
260,000 people across nine states have been left without power, although that number is now decreasing as energy is being restored to homes already affected.
American Airlines Group nixed 600 trips, and nearly 95 percent of the flights out of Charlotte Douglas International Airport in North Carolina, an American Airlines hub, were canceled.

Israel hit by massive flooding (VIDEOS)
Cars were submerged under water and streets were turned into turbulent rivers in Israeli cities over the weekend after torrential rain and cold weather battered the nation and led to flash flooding.
A neighborhood housing some 18,000 people in the Israeli city of Lod was completely cut off by floods, Israeli media reported on Sunday. Local authorities warned the residents that the only way to get in or out of the area was by train.

This web resource is created for the purpose of educating the public about a major threat discovered at the beginning of year 2020. Since then, evidence of a blocking has only been growing stronger. The latitude position of the Philippine sea plate is 26° 0' 0" N, while the latitude position of the Canary islands is 28° 0' 0" N, only a 2° difference, meaning the Philippine plate is due east of the Canary islands.
Since the Philippine plate is blocked, the eastward push of the mid-atlantic ridge along the Canary islands is being blocked, causing the lava to move upwards, thus the current eruptions in La Palma.
If you now look at the map of the tectonic plates, you will see that the mid-atlantic ridge is pushing the african / eurasian / australian plates to the east at the same time pushing the american and pacific plates to the west. The Philippine plate is in the middle of this pushing receiving pressure from both the east and the west.

Historic Snowfall Causes Major Disruptions in Greece, Turkey & Iran
A massive blizzard forced the army to rescue thousands of stranded drivers In Greece and Iran, while Istanbul Airport, one of the busiest in Europe, announced the suspension of its flight operations “due to adverse weather conditions.”
Flights have been disrupted in other airports, both in Turkey and Greece and many public services and shops are closed Tuesday due to weather-related issues.
In Iran, some villages are blocked and can only be reached by helicopter. There are unconfirmed reports of missing people.

A still-developing winter storm is set to become a major nor’easter that will bombard New England with heavy snow and blizzard conditions this weekend. Winter storm watches were issued for portions of eastern Massachusetts, eastern Connecticut and Rhode Island on Wednesday in anticipation of some of the worst conditions from the storm. The watches will go into effect at 12 a.m. on Saturday.
Areas farther south in the mid-Atlantic and southern New England will not escape the storm, as several inches of snow and major travel disruptions are expected. Due to this, winter storm watches were issued early on Thursday morning for eastern portions of North Carolina and Virginia, central and southern New Jersey, all of Delaware, the Eastern Shore of Maryland, New York City, Long Island and southern Connecticut. With the storm moving from south to north, these watches go into effect slightly earlier, at 7 p.m. on Friday.
"The area that we think will be hit the hardest and will be at risk for closures will be central and eastern Long Island to New England,” AccuWeather Chief On-Air Meteorologist Bernie Rayno said.
AccuWeather forecasters were growing more confident on Wednesday that southern New England will face the most significant impacts and that snow totals could reach or exceed a foot.
"This is going to be an intensifying storm that will produce a lot of wind, which raises concerns for blowing and drifting snow, power outages and blizzard conditions in some areas,” AccuWeather Chief Meteorologist Jonathan Porter said. "There is also a serious coastal flooding and beach erosion threat, especially in eastern Massachusetts."
The storm, which will develop off the coast of the Carolinas late this week, could rapidly strengthen enough as it moves northward along the East Coast into the weekend to be dubbed a bomb cyclone. A bomb cyclone, or bombogenesis, occurs when the central pressure of a storm crashes by 0.71 of an inch (24 millibars) or more within 24 hours. The plunging pressure will cause air to rush into the center of the storm — just like a giant vacuum. The high winds will pull in copious amounts of moisture, helping to enhance precipitation.
The combination of winds frequenting 40 mph or greater along with heavy snow will reduce the visibility to 1/4 of a mile or less for several hours, triggering blizzard conditions in portions of New England.
Snow accumulations of 12 to 18 inches, with an AccuWeather Local StormMax
of 36 inches, are predicted to occur in the stretch that spans Boston and Worcester, Massachusetts; Islip, New York; Providence, Rhode Island; Hartford and Groton, Connecticut; Portsmouth and Manchester, New Hampshire; and Portland and Bangor, Maine."Farther to the south and west in the mid-Atlantic, a threat of heavy snow exists in New York City and Philadelphia and perhaps as far inland as Baltimore and Washington, D.C.," Porter said, explaining that "the scope of the western and northern extent of the heavy snow and blizzard conditions is highly dependent on the track and intensity of the storm, which can potentially cause big differences in impacts."
The snow will be heavy enough to shovel and plow in much of the Interstate-95 corridor from Virginia to the New York City area, leading to slippery and slow travel with the risk of accidents and traffic standstills.
Should the storm jog as little as 50 miles farther to the west than currently projected, the 3- to 6-inch snow accumulations predicted in the zone from Philadelphia to Washington, D.C., and the 6-12 inches forecast from New York City to Ocean City, Maryland, could be doubled. However, if the opposite happens and the storm tracks 50 miles farther to the east, snowfall in these areas could be halved instead.
The sprawling New York City metro area, in particular, is likely to experience a wide range of accumulations. In northwestern New Jersey, a few inches of snow could fall, but areas in central Long Island, New York, will face over a foot of snow. Any small shift in the storm track to the east or west could mean the difference between a manageable snowfall or blizzard conditions in the five boroughs of the city.
The intense storm has the potential to shut down airports, such as Boston Logan International Airport, and could lead to scores of flight cancellations in New York City, Philadelphia and Washington, D.C., that can have ripple effects across the nation as crews and aircraft are displaced.
AccuWeather forecasters advise avoiding travel across much of New England during the storm on Saturday and Saturday night if it is avoidable. Heavy snow rates between 1 and 3 inches per hour along with extensive blowing and drifting snow will create extremely dangerous travel conditions. Snow drifts of several feet could occur in open areas. The storm is likely to maintain that intensity for a period of 8-12 hours, making it difficult to impossible for crews to keep up with roadways. Motorists who venture out could risk becoming stranded.
Farther to the south, parts of the Southeast and mid-Atlantic will be sideswiped by the big storm. Up to a few inches of snow can fall across portions of eastern North Carolina and southeastern Virginia that were hit by significant snow and ice this past weekend. Blowing and drifting of snow could also occur in the storm’s wake.
Should the storm strengthen to its maximum potential, hurricane-force winds of 74 mph or greater could be felt in southeastern New England, causing power outages.
"Roads prone to flooding during nor'easters along the coast in eastern Massachusetts and along the north shore of Long Island are likely to be inundated with significant overwash from this storm," AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Brett Anderson said. The combination of the astronomical effects of the new moon this weekend can make the high tides early Saturday morning and Saturday evening most problematic. Moderate coastal flooding is anticipated from New Jersey to eastern New England with a storm surge averaging 2-3 feet.
Farther west over central New England and along the mid-Atlantic coast, the dry, powdery nature of the snow will not adhere to tree limbs. However, winds can still be strong enough to cause sporadic power outages with gusts topping 40 mph at times on Saturday.
Preceding the snowstorm will be intermittent snow and flurries on Friday from parts of the central Appalachians to the mid-Atlantic and New England as a press of Arctic air arrives from Canada.
"Due to limited moisture available for this event, accumulations are likely to be light, but as we have seen in the past, even a quick coating of snow can make for hazardous conditions on the highways," AccuWeather Senior Storm Warning Meteorologist Brian Wimer said.
A general coating to an inch of snow is forecast with a few spots picking up a bit more. In much of the zone from central Virginia to central Pennsylvania, central and northern New York state and northwestern New England, it will be snow associated with a cold front on Friday that is more likely to bring an accumulation as opposed to the nor’easter from Friday night to Saturday.
Winds on the backside of the nor'easter will usher Arctic air throughout New England, the central Appalachians, the mid-Atlantic, the Midwest and Southeast regions.
Even portions of the Florida Peninsula will be affected with the risk of a damaging freeze for agriculture in the region.
Any wet and slushy areas created by the storm in the mid-Atlantic and New England could freeze on Saturday night and Sunday night.
