What Is Tensegrity?

Tensegrity is the name given to the modern version of the Magical Passes and the fluid and energetically efficient way of being—the path with heart—that don Juan Matus taught his students: Carlos Castaneda, Florinda Donner-Grau, Taisha Abelar and Carol Tiggs.

Don Juan was a Yaqui Indian from Yuma, Arizona, and Sonora, Mexico, and the heir to a lineage of seers that originates in Mexico of ancient times, and whose goal and purpose was freedom of perception—freedom to perceive what quantum physics now recognizes as the essential nature of the universe: a universe of energy, which according to those Mexican seers, is organized by a force of intelligence called intent.

A vital tool for those seers were their magical passes: positions and movements of body and breath which the early seers of their lineage dreamt and stalked thousands of years ago. Breathing into these dreamt positions and movements allows the practitioner a simple and accessible means to boost his or her well-being by redirecting and restoring the flow of his or her natural energy—bringing the ability to be present to experience, rather than caught in thoughts and emotions—and a breath pattern—of the past. Such a state of presence brings the energy and focus to recapitulate, or review one’s life, and learn from one’s experience, allowing for a new connection with others, oneself, the earth, and the life of the earth (seen and unseen), as well as the planets and stars; and new choices in the way one uses one’s attention and energy in daily life.

Cleargreen was founded in 1995 under the guidance of the students of don Juan Matus—Carlos Castaneda, Taisha Abelar, Florinda Donner-Grau and Carol Tiggs—to sponsor Tensegrity workshops, classes and publications. Tensegrity is an art: the modern practice of the way of being that don Juan taught his students. Don Juan was the heir to a lineage of seers or shamans that began in Mexico of ancient times, and whose goal was what he called “freedom of perception.”

Cleargreen has published four Tensegrity videos and sponsored workshops, classes and private sessions in Mexico, South America, the United States, Europe, and Russia.

Cleargreen stewards an international community of Tensegrity practice groups, teaches web classes that reach over thirty countries, and is now carrying out a Tensegrity Facilitator Training program worldwide.

Workshops, online classes and private sessions are led by Cleargreen Directors, students of Carlos Castaneda, Taisha Abelar, Florinda Donner-Grau and Carol Tiggs, assisted by Associate Tensegrity Instructors.

Local classes around the world are taught by the new team of Tensegrity Facilitators in Training, who are dedicated to sharing the focus, purpose, daring and joy they have gained through their own Tensegrity practice. The first class of Level One Tensegrity Facilitators will graduate in October 2013.

The name Cleargreen recognizes that we are luminous beings, reflecting in our energy fields the various colors of the spectrum of light. One of these auspicious colors for our time is a translucent green, the hue of the heart center where the energy body is linked to the assemblage point—the flower (in nahuatl, xochitl) of consciousness where we can shift our perspective, to be able to see the miraculous character of ordinary reality. It is the center of our courage, and a quality which don Juan called unbending intent, a sustained sense of purpose and passion unique to human beings, and which we can direct to a new way of interacting in the modern world—one centered on conscious and mutually enhancing interchange with the beings and the world around us.

Cleargreen’s symbol, a pair of iridescent dragonflies holding a luminous egg, calls our attention to some of the earliest prehistoric beings who intended flight, and to our energetic nature as luminous beings. If humans can come together in cooperation to acknowledge our energetic essence, don Juan believed, they could evolve, and take flight, in terms of their awareness.

Carlos Castaneda was an anthropologist seeking to do field work on the use of medicinal plants when he met don Juan Matus at a bus station in Yuma Arizona. Castaneda’s field informant became his teacher, who ushered him into a new way of being, based on the knowledge of the seers of his lineage. Dr. Castaneda wrote twelve books on his apprenticeship. He and his colleagues and fellow students of don Juan, authors Florinda Donner-Grau, Taisha Abelar, and Carol Tiggs, noticed, in their years of lecturing in bookstores and university classrooms that audiences seemed to retain more of what was said, and to begin the effort to integrate it into their lives, whenever they were taught the energizing bodily movements and breaths that don Juan taught them. So don Juan’s students decided to bring out and update the movements and breaths, called Magical Passes, and other practices don Juan had taught them, and together with their students, Kylie Lundahl, Renata Murez and Nyei Murez, they launched Tensegrity: a practical and modernized form of don Juan’s teachings.

It is very important that anyone involved with the Magical Passes understand that this is NOT a frozen practice like most martial arts or non changing yogic postures. Magical Passes are practiced in two ways: 1. with eyes open and 2. with eyes closed. Obviously open eyes is an activation of the Tonal side and stalking while the closed eyes are for the Nagual Dreaming landscape. To fly with a magical pass..means to do the pass with eyes closed..to become the Eagle flying over the land. The Shaman's breath is a stalking pass with eyes open to inhale the energy of the tonal. All the passes are to present the apprentice with a ....Style. Once the apprentice understands the style of the movement, they must enter into "creativity", out of reason, and make the Passes their OWN. This is essential.

The Code is associated with Recapitulation. I will talk about the various associations in the upcoming series of classes of The,Seers Code.

When I was eighteen, I went to India and was initiated into Yoga and Inner Silence. For fifteen years I wandered around with itinerant warrior monks.

I was a big fan of Carlos Castaneda’s books and attempted to apply his system of knowledge to my life.

I had a natural bent for taking power plants, dreaming and inner silence but one practice eluded me, the practice of Recapitulation.

My intent was to be here now, even the idea of Recapitulation challenged my conceptions.

When Carlos wrote the book Magical Passes, I bought it and started practicing the movements. As my energy grew I started having volatile, vivid lucid dreams and engaged the Energy Body in a profound way having AP’s.

I connected with a local group of practitioners and soon was at workshops, learning Passes, Stalking and Dreaming.

Of course Recapitulation was part of the workshops.

However though I was full of energy, I was still unable to begin a thorough Recapitulation of my life.

The Not Doing On the Run had been taught at a workshop and after some fellow practitioners taught The Seers Code.

The Seers Code used the movements of On the Run, in a new order with Openings and Closings.

Whilst in a discussion, I mentioned that though I was regularly stalking my life and reviewing current interactions, I had never managed a Recapitulation of my life.

One practitioner said to me Carlos told us “if you can’t do an impeccable Recapitulation of your life, do a shitty one.”

Somehow having received a boost from the Code, I was able to use this phrase to empower me to begin the Recapitulation.

Not only did I begin my Recapitulation but I started a couple of weekly groups where others joined me in writing the lists and Recapitulating the people, places and events of our lives.

The Recapitulation engendered a huge shift. Although it was often, exhausting and uncomfortable, the Code assisted me, in understanding myself in a deeper way.

I became lucid every night.

Some unpleasant truths about myself emerged, which were highly confronting.

The breathing though detached me from the painful events of my life and showed me the way I judged and protected myself from the world at large.

The Seers Code shows me the ludicrous folly of my life. I discovered d a quote from Rumi, that had me chuckling and reflected my findings “we are all idiots. If you don’t know you are an idiot, then you really are an idiot.

I became more pragmatic in my life, less insistent, about how it had to be, less reactive, less dominated by my emotions. I had more and made better use of my energy, becoming more balanced.

I began to see myself in a new and appreciative light. I began to live more strategically, anticipate reactive moods and dodge or breathe through them.

I was able to hold an enhanced expansive view, of my life, much of the time, and let go.

When I made bloomers, rather than getting angry with myself and projecting it on the world, I laughed and learned from the experience.

Recapitulation is an ongoing affair in my life. We can always dive deeper, climb higher.

I thank Carlos for this huge resource that confers on practitioners a chance to navigate their life, with a little more tenacity and heart.

I determined to become a teacher of The Seers Code and have taught it around the world, with much gratitude from attendees who have been able to make use of this knowledge.

I look forward to meeting some of you in our upcoming series of classes called The Seers Code.
