I dont need to showcase my bodging skills here, I have better use for the bandwidth Wink  but if folk are interested I can show how to convert a van. No you tube videos though.

I will replace the floor, insulate it, install a wood burner, electric ring, solar power (12V and 240 AV with inverter), split charge battery set- up.. storage/ bed, and away I tootle...

i will 'install' a smell-free and easy compost toilet too Wink

In short, Kristen is a bad-ass. And so is her van. She game up her regular 9-5 life and swapped it with a mobile life on the road. Her "Bearfoot Theory" van is a 144 inch wheelbase Mercedes Sprinter that's 4x4 which means getting off the beaten path with a lot more ease. It's fully off-grid with panels on the roof, running water, etc. I love this setup so much. She's has carved out a pretty darn-good life for herself if I say so myself. Most likely you will too. Check the link below to checkout her website with ALOT of good info. for folks thinking about taking a similar plunge into van life.

    https://bearfoottheory.com/category/van-life/

I had a look at this site, sans video, and it seems that money is no object for some of these builds! I guess a lot of it depends on whether you have land you can park on or not. A permanent tiny 'home' in a fixed location, or living in a van which doesnt have to move, is a different set-up to van for traveling.

I have built a few small houses in my time in various locations and still have ideas for tree-houses and small underground houses. I do like to design and build such things. I was off-grid on my own smallholding for many years before I took off to India.

For this van I am on a budget of scrounging, make-do and mend, so a different set -up completely.. I bought an ex-ambulance and would like to try and incorporate some of ambulance into the new design, not only to keep material costs down but to preserve some of the old van. There was a foldable stretcher made from high quality stainless steel pipe, (I have removed the orange plastic now). I am thinking to make this into a folding frame onto which I can bolt my solar panel, to change the angle of my panel if I am parked up. There was a wheelchair lift on the back of the ambulance which I have now removed, I swapped the powerful motor for a roof rack and I will use the checker plate ramps to make heat shields for my wood burner.. :)

    Tiny houses - Page 3 Stretc11

My idea of a great shower is black pipe coiled around a roof rack, will be a hot shower, outside the van, every 20 minutes or so, for little money :)

there is no reason not to use a compost toilet inside, if you need a toilet inside at all.

Also... while it is nice to showcase great looking camper conversions, its getting harder to park for free, and 'stealth' campers are more attractive for this purpose...

walking is cheaper, but you cant carry much and i dont like to pack more than 15Kgs for long hauls, so a van will be a new lifestyle, albeit a more expensive one :)

the good news is that I am upsizing to this van not downsizing, so at least I dont have to worry about getting my things inside :)

Living on a 4 Season Houseboat - Beautiful Floating Tiny House!

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DE2WdjS6rRY

    Thubs Up

The tiny houseboat was designed by Bonnie and her boatbuilding friend, Denis Tremblay, who is known locally as the Wakefield Pirate. Denis and a few of his friends built the boat by hand, including the aluminum frame and the custom windows, the cabinets, and the grill floor in the loft.

The boat is built on 5 pontoons that are designed to provide flotation while still taking on some water to keep the boat weighed down in the water for stability. The pontoons are also designed to freeze in the ice and are made by a local company called Les Quais Navigables (http://www.quaisnavigables.com).

It's a 4-season house boat that is fully insulated and has an antique wood burning fireplace to provide heat in winter. For power, they installed a deep cycle marine battery that provides 12-Volt power for the lights, bilge pump, and navigation lights. They have a Separett composting toilet from Sweden (https://www.separett-usa.com), and a sink that pumps water from the river for washing dishes. For refrigeration, Bonnie uses a cooler with ice, but she might invest in some solar panels so that she can power a proper fridge eventually.

The main floor has a kitchen, toilet, dining room and living room, and upstairs there is cozy a sleeping loft with a grill floor that allows heat to rise through the floor, and sun & dust to travel down to the main level. One of the windows in the loft opens up onto a gorgeous rooftop patio with a cedar deck and has space for some solar panels if/when Bonnie decides she needs them.

The boat has a gas motor and can be taken out on the river which is quite impressive considering it's size! To make sure the boat was still road worthy, they built a wedge roof over the loft that can be taken apart if Bonnie wants to transport it to a different location. The boat is currently docked in the quaint little town of Wakefield, Québec where there are cute cafes, restaurants and shops right across the street.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hVSeyTKJuL4
The "Ms. Gypsy" is a 28′ long and an additional 4′ of porch space tiny house. It is designed and built by its owner, Jewel Pearson in Charlotte, NC. Its interior has a desk nook, living area, bedroom loft, den loft, floating staircase, kitchen, large closet, screened-in porch, and Juliet balcony. It has a funky, modern gypsy style to it, with its interesting artwork and bright colors. 2 Lofts - lots of windows - nice exterior layout design for yard.

    Storybook Cottage By The Sea

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=avn7brkxmmo

This small fantasy cottage by the ocean is one that you have to see to believe. Located directly on the shoreline of Vancouver Island in British Columbia, this fairytale tiny home is built from natural materials using old-fashioned techniques to deliver a home which looks as though it has fallen from the pages of a storybook. Inside, the home is surprisingly contemporary, making this not only a visually stunning architectural marvel, but also a practical dwelling designed to include all the creature comforts.

Amazing DIY European Style Tiny House With Pizza Oven

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WxTdiFreIms

The Gypsy Mermaid is undoubtably one of the most creative and artistic tiny house builds that we have visited to date. There are features in this home that I didn't believe to be possible in a tiny house such as a fully functional feature pizza oven right in the middle of the home which provides both ample warmth and amazing pizza!
