This plastic-coated modular cardboard house, designed by small Australian design partnership, Stutchbury and Pape, and the Ian Buchan Fell Housing Research Unit at University of Sydney, costs about $35,000 a kit.

The house is constructed from recycled cardboard and comes as a kit of parts, including a flat pack of frames, and infill floor and wall panels. It utilises minimal fixings: nylon wing nuts, hand-tightened polyster tape stays and Velcro fastenings, and can be assembled in as little as 6 hours.

HDPE plastic coats the roof making it waterproof, and is also used for water storage tanks under the house.

Once it has reached the end of it's life, the house is recyclable, saving 12 cubic metres of landfill, 39 trees and 30,000 litres of water.
