    Having lived through multiple power outages living in various rural areas due to storms we take prepping seriously. I remember on year when the power went out on Thanksgiving in a snow storm so we cooked the turkey on the covered barbecue. We also keep those two burner camper stoves on hand along with propane tanks. And then there are the solar outside lights/lanterns, "no smoke" kerosene lamps, candles, tons of wooden matches in glass sealed jars to keep the damp out. And then there are those other handy items to have on hand just in case solar flares create EMPs. Electronics of globe can be wiped out.

    50 - 100 lbs rice (rice is easy to digest and can be prepared multiple ways.. also used as food for animals including chickens) It's also easier to put it into smaller freezer bags and then into large sealed dog food plastic containers to keep dry and bug free.

    50 lbs flour (I bag these up in the smaller freezer zip lock bags with 3 cups flour, 1 1/2 teaspoon salt and 1/4 - 1/2 teaspoon yeast). When it's time to bake bread just add 1 1/2 cup warm water, mix an let sit 18 hours plus in covered bowl. Preheat oven with pyrex bowl (with covered lid outside) to 450 degrees when ready to bake. About an hour or two prior to baking when ready fold dough to middle. Bake in preheated oven for 30 minutes with cover lid on. After 30 minutes turn oven off, take lid off for 10-15 minutes to harden crust. Then remove from oven to cook off and enjoy. I keep the small freezer bags in a large sealed plastic dog food container.

    Water can also be stored in glass jars or frozen in milk jugs in the freezer to help keep food cold at times when power goes out..

    peanut butter (makes stomach feel full) / various nut butters (almond, macadamia nut, etc.) mixed with honey it’s delicious.
    honey (never goes bad)
    jelly/jam
    coconut oil (for cooking or used as butter) I buy large containers from Swanson’s Vitamins
    We have butter in cans
    Coconut milk in cans
    various meat and fish in cans
    regular milk frozen in freezer in cartons in case power goes out - which it does on a regular basis
    spices (curry, salt, pepper, cinnamon, cayenne pepper, garlic, etc.)
    oatmeal kept in glass jars with screw top lids to keep bugs out
    chocolate chips
    instant coffee
    instant cocoa
    dried instant drinks including products for protein shakes as a breakfast drink (can add dried fruit)
    tea
    dried fruit stored in glass lidded jars.
    dehydrated vegetables
    organic seeds for growing food and seeds for sprouts for fresh greens. Can grow lettuce and spinach in pots inside by windows.
    squash of different types last for a long period of time - can be used in curry stews
    pasta in glass jars (same problem with bugs with long term storage)
    tomato spagetti sauce in jars - easier to store left overs with something that has a lid.
    sugar?
    instant powder milk also stored in mason glass lidded jars
    variety of nuts also stored in glass lidded jars
    Lintels stored in glass lidded jars.
    Any dry goods you want.. store in those mason glass lidded jars to prevent bug problems.
    Vinegar
    One can also freeze eggs but dried egg powder will work if needed.
    Baking Powder
    Baking Soda (can be used as a cleaner for clothes, teeth.. all types of things 101 uses)

    basic tools (hammers, screwdrivers, pliers, nails, screws, crowbar, saw, hatchet, camping equipment, etc)
    paper
    pencils
    library of books (how to survive self-help books - grow food - fixing things)
    deck of cards
    games


    Food for pets and animals

    These are the best when the power goes out for stairs and going into dark areas. No need to look for a light switch. They go off and on by themselves.

    Just make sure you have tons of batters preferable kept in a lead container or old microwave over that acts like a faraday cage
