Environmentalist’s best kept secret and the concrete industry’s worst nightmare…

… the earthbag method means that you can build a small retreat to withstand bullets, floods, hurricanes, storms and fires much better than a conventional house.

And all at a fraction of the cost!

Earthbag construction is a hot topic in underground circles but has yet to hit the mainstream.

First used by the military to make bunkers and temporary army buildings, the earthbag building system became a family necessity in some war zones. There are also a few video guides on how to turn your home into an impregnable fortress.

And I’m pretty sure that this method will become pretty popular among survivalists and cautious people in general. And here is why:

    Indestructible
Earthbag buildings are tough and have some serious credentials to prove it:

In Nepal’s recent earthquakes, the entire village of Sangachok was flattened, with the exception of one building. This school building is now being used as a shelter for the majority of the community who’ve lost their homes to the quake. And guess what this building is made of? That’s right, earthbags.

The polypropylene bags filled with soil, laid like bricks and tamped down into place proved too tough for the 7.8 earthquake to defeat.

With its plaster, attached to the bags by chicken wire mesh, it looks just like a regular concrete building. It’s just much tougher.

Emergency shelters are now being put up in Nepal using this method, based on the success in rebuilding in Haiti after their earthquake in 2010.

It was the military that first used earth and sandbag construction and have been doing so for at least a century. Used to make bunkers and temporary army buildings, the ability of earthbags to take bullets in and not let them out makes them indispensible for those in war zones or preparing for dangerous situations.

We don’t have to look too far to get proof of earthbag’s waterproof properties. Bags filled with earth or sand are used for flood control worldwide with great success. Though the burlap bags commonly used degrade when exposed to water for a long time, polypropylene is totally water resistant, so is the ideal choice for waterproofing.

HempCrete Strongest & Greenest Building material in Nature

Hemp has always been a cash crop. Fuel may be the most important product you can get from hemp for our growing energy needs, but there are literally thousands of different products you can make from hemp. From clothing, to makeup, to biodegradable plastics, it's pretty much a miracle plant. It has 4x the yield of tobacco, is incredibly resilient to changes in environment and it grows very quickly. I would argue that hemp would be a staple in any sustainable society. It's really a shame that it's illegal in the US.

Hobbit style eco friendly house built from scratch for just £150

This is the amazing Hobbit-style house an eco-friendly farmer built from scratch for just £150.

Resourceful Michael Buck created the "cob" home at the bottom of his garden using an ancient building technique.

He now lets it out to a woman who works on a neighbouring dairy farm.

And in keeping with his green philosophy he lets her pay her rent in MILK.

Cob houses -- made of earth, clay and straw -- date back to prehistoric times.

Ex-art teacher Michael, a smallholder near Oxford, used only natural or recycled materials... and not a single power tool.

The floorboards were rescued from a skip and the windows came from an old lorry windscreen.

Dad-of-three Michael also carried huge bundles of reeds on his back to avoid leaving a carbon footprint and taught himself how to thatch.

Although it has no electricity the mushroom-shaped cottage has running water from a nearby spring and walls painted with chalk and plant resin.

It has a kitchen, dining area and bunk bed.

Heat comes from a wood-burning stove and thanks to the cob walls the house is surprisingly well-insulated.

A shallow well acts as a fridge and there's also an outhouse with a composting loo.

Michael, who spent two years on the house, said he was a bit disappointed because it was meant to cost NOTHING.
He added: "With proper maintenance it could last forever, but it would also naturally return to the earth if left alone."

Flowers Thanks Carol, great examples of sustainable building. The Earthbag home with the sides like steps in green grasscover is the image
I chose for my website in 2011, when I decided to leave Holland and work in sustainable living communities, building homes too.
Great to find it here again, with other example. That hemp house is amazing, I haven't heard from building with hemp until now.
Specially with an increase of earthquakes, the natural material of buildings proves strongest. The South American Hopi Indians have
always chosen adobe, or cob-building to this day, for this reason and also for their vision of a future reality where we will possibly
enter another dimension, witnessing the disappearance, from sight, of objects that are synthetic and artificial, which cannot and
do not belong to that new world of a higher vibration.

Imagine, seeing the concrete melt around you, spaces opening up to the fresh air on the 27th level of a building, your pc entirely gone!
And maybe your clothes too Blink That's why it's advised to go into nature and sit with closed eyes, meditating and entering the heart
within, winging it, during a pole shift aka dimensional shift.

Now this is something I would find helpful. There would be nothing left to sweep or dust. Huge Grin
