The Sun wanted to let us know there was action going on in other places in the Solar System besides Mars. A huge, dark-colored filament stretched across nearly half the solar face on August 5th. Estimates are this filament was about 800,000 km in length! Wow! Paul Andrew took six images to create a composite, full image of the Sun, and below is an 11-panel mosaic by Leonard Mercer from Malta to show the surrounding region with the main sunspots 1535, 1538, 1540 present.

MessageToEagle.com - The Sun's odd behavior has been mentioned on many occasions recently. As we all await the Solar Cycle 24, scientists keep a close eye on the Sun.

Now astronomers have discovered huge dark strip on the surface of the Sun. It is estimated this filament is about 800,000 km in length!

Astrophysicists presume dark spots on the Sun are areas where the temperature is lower. However what we see here is not a normal sunspot and it is growing at an alarming rate.

According to researchers the region has increased to almost one million kilometers in just three days.

NASA forecasts that in September 2012, there will be outbreaks of unprecedented power. We can expect huge solar flares that can have serious effect world-wide.

Commenting on the study of the dangers of "space weather", astrophysicist Daniel Baker claimed that the effects will be comparable to a nuclear war or the fall of a giant asteroid. However, in terms of power grids and satellites, it's not the flares that the experts have to worry about, but the CMEs.
There is a risk that one day, they can wipe out all of our electronic civilization.

Solar storms can disrupt communication, and navigational equipment, damage satellites, and even cause blackouts by damaging power plants and electrical grid components.

They can also bring additional radiation around the north and south poles; and this, in turn forces airlines to reroute their flights.

According to a report published by NERC, the North American Electric Reliability Corporation, or NERC, which oversees North America's power grid we can feel the effects for several years to come.

"Historically large storms have a potential to cause power grid blackouts and transformer damage of unprecedented proportions, long-term blackouts and lengthy restoration times, and chronic shortages for multiple years are possible," the report said. Terrible stripe on the Sun

This filament happened on Aug. 5th, 2012.
11 images were put together to create this huge filamament on the Sun.
amateur astronomer from Malta, who contributes with many astrophotos.

Richard Andres, an energy and environmental security expert at the military's National Defense University (NDU), is helping to coordinate an interagency group to deal with the problem. The failure of the national power grid could be disastrous, he said.

In a worst-case scenario, commerce would almost instantly cease, he said, noting he was speaking for himself and not the U.S. government. Water and fuel, which depend on electric pumps, would stop flowing in most cities within hours, modern communications would end and mechanized transport would stall.

Backup generators for hospitals, the military, and other critical facilities would be vulnerable if they depended on diesel or natural gas, which also rely on pipelines for resupply.

The report said more than 130 million people in the United States could be affected. Andres said the death toll could run into the millions in the worst-case scenario.

How many people will suffer world-wide? We can only make guesses about the number of deaths.

Space weather experts already warn that the next solar storm can be much worse than previously expected.

There are leaks in Earth's magnetic field. Earth's magnetic field which acts as our protective shield in space has a hole in it. That could be a problem because a weakened field could leave Earth vulnerable to solar storms.

Unfortunately it is impossible to determine in advance in how serious danger Earth will be.

If Mars was hoping to steal all our attention this week it almost worked. That was until photos surfaced taken on August 5, 2012 of a dark colored filament on the Sun that stretched almost 800,000 kilometers (or 500,000 miles) in length — twice the distance from the Earth to the Moon. Filaments are caused when the magnetic field in the solar atmosphere holds solar plasma between the Sun's visible surface — or chromosphere — into the corona. The filament appears dark because the solar plasma held in this state is cooler than the bright solar surface below.

M-CLASS SOLAR FLARE: Sunspot AR1540 erupted on August 11th, producing a long-duration M1-class solar flare that peaked around 1220 UT. NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory recorded the extreme ultraviolet flash: The explosion hurled a faint cloud of plasma into space. Judging from the blast site's off-center location on the solar disk, the cloud is probably not heading for Earth. This conclusion is uncertain, however.

CRACKLING SUNSPOT: As it turns away from Earth, sunspot 1543 has begun to crackle with impulsive C- and M-class solar flares. Minor ionization waves are probably rippling through our planet's upper atmosphere as a result. A solar wind stream flowing from the indicated coronal hole should reach Earth on Aug. 19-20.

Signs You Ignore at Your Own Risk, Facilitators of the Elite

Addressing specifically: Mr Barak, Mr Netanyahu, Mr Erdogan, Mr Rothschild, Mrs Windsor, Mr Rockefeller, Mr Soros, Mr Ratzinger, Mr Obama as well as all heads of NATO states.

You, the so called global elite may not draw the conclusion that what is shown on this image is related to you and your actions. Your agenda to set off the third world war has prompted superior cosmic forces that know you and your agenda to depopulate the world, to show you something that has never been seen and can not be overlooked.

If you begin a full scale attempt to overthrow the legitimate Syrian government, the situation will culminate in instabilities you cannot predict. What happens in Syria, however, sets a likely inevitability that everything forward will lead to those circumstances.

Inevitability will begin at the point of nexus. Nexus will be when you start the depopulation of the earth in earnest. The war in Syria is important in that it starts a chain reaction of events towards an inevitability that would be marked by global depopulation and that is the signal, when that starts it is over, our planet will be destroyed by outside forces who have the ability to control the Sun.

There had been a first warning that obviously did not change the course you and humanity is taking.

RADIATION BELT STORM PROBES: Most spacecraft try to avoid the Van Allen Belts, two doughnut-shaped regions around Earth filled with "killer electrons." NASA is about to launch two heavily-shielded spacecraft directly into the belts. The Radiation Belt Storm Probes are waiting on the launch pad at Cape Canaveral to begin a 2-year mission to study the Van Allen Belts and unravel the mystery of their dangerous unpredictability. Liftoff is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 25th.

ICELAND AURORAS: As the midnight sun sets, aurora season has resumed around the Arctic Circle. Last night's display was photographed by Antony Spencer from Kirkufell, Snaefellsnes, Iceland:

RADIATION BELT STORM PROBES: Most spacecraft try to avoid the Van Allen Belts, two doughnut-shaped regions around Earth filled with "killer electrons." This morning, NASA launched two heavily-shielded spacecraft directly into the belts. Mark Staples of Little Lake Santa Fe, Florida, photographed the Radiation Belt Storm Probes (RBSP) lifting off just after 4:05 am EDT: Shortly after launch, the twin probes were successfully released from the rocket's Centaur upper stage, kicking off a two-year mission to study the mysteries of the Van Allen Belts. "I'm very happy to report that we have two happy spacecraft on orbit," says Rick Fitzgerald, RBSP project manager from the John Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory, which is managing the mission for NASA.

The two probes now begin a 60-day commissioning period. During the next two months, operators will power up all flight systems and science instruments and deploy long antenna booms, two of which are more than 54 yards long. The Storm Probes are equipped with radio beacons that will rapidly transmit data back to Earth so members of the public can get a nearly-realtime look at conditions inside the belts. Stay tuned.

BLUE MOON: Tonight's full Moon is the second full Moon this month. According to modern folklore, that makes it a "Blue Moon." Strange but true: Most blue moons look red, pink or gray. On rare occasions, however, the Moon can actually turn blue. A video from NASA explains how.

Richard Sears photographed the waxing full Moon last night from Atwater, California. It was not blue:

IONIZATION WAVES: Magnetic fields snaking around the sun's southeastern limb are crackling with C- and M-class solar flares. Extreme UV pulses from the flares are illuminating Earth's upper atmosphere, causing waves of ionization to ripple around the dayside of our planet. Rob Stammes detected the sudden ionospheric disturbances (SIDs) from his laboratory in Lofoton, Norway:
    SOHO LASCO C2 Latest Image - Page 12 Sid_strip
The extra ionization altered the propagation of very low frequency radio signals around Northern Europe," explains Stammes. "I detected these changes using my 60 kHz SID receiver."

More ionization waves are in the offing. NOAA forecasters estimate a 40% chance of M-class solar flares during the next 24 hours.

MAGNIFICENT ERUPTION: A filament of magnetism curling around the sun's southeastern limb erupted on August 31st, producing a coronal mass ejection (CME), a C8-class solar flare, and one of the most beautiful movies ever recorded by NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory: The explosion hurled a CME away from the sun traveling faster than 500 km/s (1.1 million mph). The cloud, shown here, is not heading directly toward Earth, but it could deliver a glancing blow to our planet's magnetic field on or about September 3rd. This date is preliminary and may be changed in response to more data from coronagraphs on the Solar and Heliophysics Observatory (SOHO). http://www.spaceweather.com/

CHANCE OF FLARES: Sunspot AR1560 has more than quadrupled in size since August 30th, and now the fast growing active region is directly facing our planet: movie. NOAA forecasters estimate a 40% chance of M-class solar fares during the next 48 hours.

On this day in 1859, a solar superstorm peaked with a massive coronal ejection heading directly toward Earth. Known as the Carrington Event, this powerful geomagnetic storm caused the failure of telegraph systems, and auroras were seen all over the world.

    Read full article at: http://thewatchers.adorraeli.com/2012/09/01/minor-solar-radiation-storm-progress/
Minor solar radiation storm in progress
High levels of low energetic protons are recorded streaming past Earth causing minor S1 solar radiation storm. Proton event 10MeV Integral Flux exceeded 10 pfu. Minor impacts on HF radio are possible around polar regions.

Elevated solar radiation storm levels are generated by an extra-large filament eruption observed late on August 31 on southeastern quadrant, source was sunspot group 1562. Filament eruption generated a bright Coronal Mass Ejection (CME) that appears to be partially Earth-directed. The CACTus software determined the event as a halo CME – Earth directed – with a speed of 520 km/s. It will probably produced glancing blow and wonderful auroras around September 2/3.

Geomagnetic Storm levels are forecast to reach the G1 (Minor) level with a chance for G2 (Moderate) level activity on September 3rd, with arrival of the coronal mass ejection expected early that day. High latitudes have a chance of reaching severe storm levels on September 3. On September 4, activity is expected to decrease to mostly unsettled conditions as CME effects wane.

Growing sunspot 1560 poses a threat for Earth-directed M-flares. Sunspot AR1560 has more than quadrupled in size since August 30th, and now the fast growing active region is directly facing our planet. NOAA forecasters estimate a 40% chance of M-class solar fares during the next 48 hours.

SUBSIDING STORM: A geomagnetic storm that began on Sept. 3rd when a coronal mass ejection (CME) hit Earth's magnetic field is fitfully subsiding. The impact at 1200 UT (5 am PDT) induced significant ground currents in the soil of northern Scandinavia and sparked bright auroras around the Arctic Circle. Ole C. Salomonsen photographed the display over Naimakka, Finland, on Sept. 4th:

    Solar wind speed: 475.6 km/sec

SUNSPOT AR1564: The next strong flare could be just around the corner. Sunspot AR1564 is growing rapidly and has developed a 'beta-gamma' magnetic field that harbors energy for M-class flares. NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory took this picture of the active region during the early hours of Sept. 4th:

    SOHO LASCO C2 Latest Image - Page 12 Ar1564_strip
NOAA forecasters estimate a 40% chance of M-flares during the next 24 hours. Any eruptions will likely be Earth-directed as the active region is turning toward our planet.

NEAR-EARTH ASTEROID: A relatively large asteroid, just discovered on August 28th, will fly past the Earth-Moon system on Sept 14th only 2.8 million km (7.4 lunar distances) away. 2012 QG42 is about as wide as three football fields and comes to us from just beyond the orbit of Mars. Astronomers who are now monitoring the space rock say it shines about as brightly as a 15th magnitude star.

MAGNETIC UNREST: Earth's magnetic field is still reverberating from a pair of CME impacts--a relatively strong blow on Sept 3rd followed by a lesser hit on Sept. 4th. The double strike ignited auroras around the Arctic Circle that are only slowly fading. Olivier Du Tré photographed this apparition over Red Deer, Alberta, on Sept. 5th: NOAA forecasters estimate a 25% chance of strong polar geomagnetic storms on Sept. 6th as the reverberations continue.

ENTANGLED ERUPTION: Interrupting days of quiet, sunspot AR1564 erupted on Saturday, Sept. 8th, producing an M1-class solar flare. NASA's Solar Dynamics Obervatory (SDO) recorded the extreme ultraviolet flash:

The movie shows more than just a single flare. This eruption was "entangled." A magnetic tendril guided a wave of hot plasma all the way from the blast site to another active region (AR1562) on the western limb ~250,000 km away.

Since SDO was launched in 2010, the observatory has recorded hundreds of entangled eruptions. Sometimes they spread like a chain reaction to involve nearly the entire sun. A good example is the global eruption of August 2010. The moral to this story: One little flare can go a long way. http://science.nasa.gov/science-news/science-at-nasa/2010/13dec_globaleruption/

    Solar wind speed: 354.3 km/sec

A pair of coronal holes is emerging over the sun's eastern limb. SLIGHT CHANCE OF FLARES: NOAA forecasters estimate a slight 20% chance of M-class solar flares from departing sunspot AR1564. Otherwise, solar activity is expected to remain low for the next 24 hours.

This Northern Lepidoptera appeared when a "kink" in the interplanetary magnetic field (IMF) drifted past Earth, briefly opening a crack in our planet's magnetosphere. Solar wind poured in to fuel the display. At the peak of the storm, the Arctic Circle was glowing from Scandinavia to Iceland to Canada.

Earth's polar magnetic field is settling down again, but more Arctic auroras are in the offing, especially on Sept 14-15 when a solar wind stream is expected to reach our planet. Departing sunspot 1564 poses a slight threat for M-class solar flares, not Earth-directed. A pair of coronal holes is emerging over the sun's eastern limb.

    Solar wind speed: 437.0 km/sec

QUIET SUN: Solar activity is low. NOAA forecasters say the chance of an M-class flare today is no more than 10%. An X-flare is even less likely: less than 1%. No strong flares are in the offing.

PLASMA RAIN: Despite the quiet, there has been something to see on the sun this weekend. Yesterday amateur astronomer Michael Buxton of Ocean Beach, CA, witnessed an episode of "plasma rain" on the sun's western limb. Click on the arrow to set the shower in motion:

The movie, which Buxton assembled from a series of 1 minute exposures taken over a 2 hour period on Sept. 15th, shows Moon-sized "droplets" of plasma swirling and falling along magnetic field lines from the sun's atmosphere to the sun's surface. That's how it rains on the sun.

This storm cloud, aka "prominence", has since rained out. The western limb is clear and sunny again.

Solar wind flowing from these three coronal holes will buffet Earth's magnetic field one after another, from Sept. 18th through Sept. 22nd. Solar wind speed: 425.1 km/sec

INCOMING ACTIVE REGIONS: Solar activity has been low for more than a week. This could change in the days ahead as a pair of active regions rotates onto the Earthside of the sun. NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory recorded the signs of their approach during the early hours of Sept. 18th: Pictured above are the magnetic canopies of sunspots. Plasma-filled magnetic loops towering more than 50,000 km above the sun's eastern limb herald the approach of the active regions, possibly turning a pair of flare centers toward Earth as the week unfolds.

CMEs MISS EARTH: The Solar and Heliospheric Observatory (SOHO) has observed at least three CMEs billowing away from the sun during the last 24 hours. However, none of the clouds are heading for Earth. The source of the explosions appears to be on the far side of the sun. A solar wind stream flowing from the indicated coronal hole should reach Earth on Sept 22-23.

    Solar wind speed: 570.7 km/sec

FIRST DAY OF NORTHERN AUTUMN: The seasons are changing. Today, Sept. 22nd at 10:49 a.m. EDT, the sun crosses the celestial equator heading north. This marks the beginning of autumn in the northern hemisphere and spring in the southern hemisphere. At this time of year, day and night are of nearly equal length, hence the name "equinox" (equal night). A solar wind stream flowing from the indicated coronal hole should reach Earth on Sept 22-23.

    Solar wind speed: 380.6 km/sec

AUTUMN LIGHTS: The onset of northern autumn means it's aurora season. For reasons researchers don't fully understand, equinoxes are the best times to see Northern Lights. Right on cue, the Arctic Circle is glowing. Tom Eklund sends this picture taken Sept. 20th from Akaa, Finland: A solar wind stream is expected to hit Earth's magnetic field this weekend, sparking more fall colors around the Arctic Circle.

SLIGHT CHANCE OF FLARES: Sunspot 1575 has developed a 'beta-gamma' magnetic field that harbors energy for M-class solar flares. NOAA forecasters estimate a 5% chance of an eruption during the next 24 hours. The odds are low, but if a flare occurs, it will be Earth-directed. Solar flare currently occurring.
