Craig Venter unveils " synthetic life "

Craig Venter and team make a historic announcement: they've created the first fully functioning, reproducing cell controlled by synthetic DNA. He explains how they did it and why the achievement marks the beginning of a new era for science

In my opinion private research companies or Universities are not the Apex of scientific research . What I am saying is that probably this discovery is a tiny bit late say 50 years after the secret research labs of the military . We hear so often of " super soldiers " ," Clones " , "Hybrids " etc.
What probably happened is that the "controllers : have given permission for this " new " discovery .

    Thanks Brook .
Yes I am aware of the Gulf Blue plague .
It's been covered in depth on the oil spill thread and
Carol just added another video on this today.
Never where all the compounds of the Corexit BP massively
    used released .
I guess there is a reason for this ...

enemyofNWO, I too believe these discoveries are nothing new.
When we see what 's being done to food ( GMOs) , animal cloning ,
natural medecines turned into synthetic compounds, computer technology, nano tech ...
it's seems that in the span of 100 years there is a general trend to replace original life by a completely synthetically controlled one .

Synthetic Lifeforms: What are the Types?

    http://www.buzzle.com/articles/synthetic-lifeforms-what-are-the-types.html

Synthetic life is a multi-disciplinary field in research devoted to the creation of lifelike structures in fields like computational, biochemical, mechanical, or combinations of the three. Scientists working in the field of artificial life anticipate gaining general insights about self-organizing systems, applying their knowledge in technology development.

    'WATERMARKING' DNA

This dramatic development naturally raises fears of the dangers these organisms pose. So one idea, which has been followed through by Venter and his team, is to 'watermark' them.
By weaving these hidden codes in it enables scientists to trace the organisms to their laboratories and prove the recipient bacteria contained the synthetic genome.
Researchers used the 'alphabet' of genes and proteins to spell out messages.
The team created a code that spells out the 26 letters of the alphabet, the numbers 0 to 9 and several punctuation marks. They then wrote a message which reveals the code. A second missive was a string of 'letters' corresponding to the names of 46 people involved in the project. A third gave an e-mail address where people can write once they crack the code and the fourth listed three philosophical quotes.

The goal of “synthetic biology” isn’t to encode the names of literati and physicists into cells—it’s to encode much more valuable information, such as the instructions for manufacturing artificial fuels and foods. In other words, Venter’s man-made bacterium doesn’t secrete anything useful, but other bacteria might in the future. The next step for Venter is doing similar work with algae: an avid seafarer, he has made a serious study of the marine organisms and hopes to use them to make biofuels. (He’s not the only one by far.) Thursday’s announcement is a necessary step on that path, a sort of “demonstration project,” as the WSJ puts it.
