Regarding the Bible Empty Regarding the Bible

Post  Seashore Sat Apr 20, 2024 6:46 am

I've recently discovered the work of Bill Donahue, who was raised in the Catholic church.

He shares the story of his journey of questioning and thinking for himself, along with his personal family life, in How It All Came Together.

Especially significant for me is this:

So as I sat in church, my eyes were drawn to the man who was hanging from a cross above the altar.

The man was bleeding from his side, as well as from his hands, and feet.

I innocently asked who he was.

I was told it was Jesus, the son of God.

I asked who did this to him.

I was told that his father was the one who did this.

His father tortured his son to death.

His father brutally made a plan that required his son to be tortured to death.

The reason for all of this violence?

It was explained to me that God required blood to be shed so that he could forgive me.

So I walked out of that church and within myself I brought to Gods' attention the fact that what he did was very very wrong.

Bill Donahue states that it is a mistake to take the Bible literally, and gives his opinion about the actual meaning of various passages.  It is interesting that to him the word "son" is an allegory for "sun."

See WHAT DO THE ANCIENT STORIES REALLY MEAN ?.
