Vietnamese Kindergarten Teaches Gardening and Sustainability
When you think of the typical education system, most probably think of the usual subjects…science, math, history, etc. While these subjects are important it seems there is something missing, like useful sustainable lessons.
A kindergarten school in Vietnam, designed by Vo Trong Nghia Architects, has implemented such sustainable lessons. Not only does the “Farming Kindergarten” offer classes in sustainability and gardening, but the structure itself reflects their teachings. Outfitted with a green roof for gardening is just the start.
“Architectural and mechanical energy-saving methods are comprehensively applied including: Green roof, PC-concrete louver for shading, using recycle materials, water recycling, solar water heating and more,” according to Vo Trong Nghia.“These devices are designed visibly in order for children to realize the important role of sustainable education.”
Not only do green roofs provide ample space for growing food, they also act as natural insulation.
The school enrolls 500 students, spreading over 3800 square meters, and includes 3 massive courtyards.
