Document: JPMorgan Chase Bets $10.4 Billion on the Early Death of Workers”
Families of young JPMorgan Chase workers who have experienced tragic deaths over the past four months, have been kept in the dark on many details, including the fact that the bank most likely held a life insurance policy on their loved one – payable to itself. Banks in the U.S., as well as other corporations, are allowed to make multi-billion dollar wagers that their profits from life insurance policies on employees will outstrip the cost of paying premiums and other fees. Early deaths help those wagers pay off.
According to the December 31, 2013 financial filing known as the Call Report that JPMorgan made with Federal regulators, it has tied up $10.4 billion in illiquid, long term bets on the death of a large segment of its employees.
The program is known among regulators as Bank Owned Life Insurance or BOLI. Federal regulators specifically exempted BOLI in passing the final version of the Volcker Rule in December of last year which disallowed most proprietary trading or betting for the house. Regulators stated in the rule that “Rather, these accounts permit the banking entity to effectively hedge and cover costs of providing benefits to employees through insurance policies related to key employees.” We have italicized the word “key” because regulators know very well from financial filings that the country’s mega banks are not just insuring key employees but a broad-base of their employees.
Just four of the largest U.S. banks, JPMorgan Chase, Bank of America, Wells Fargo and Citigroup hold over $53 billion in investments in BOLI according to 2013 year-end Call Reports. Death benefits from life insurance is purchased at a multiple to the amount of the investments, meaning that $53 billion is easily enough to buy $1 million life insurance policies on 159,000 employees, and potentially a great deal more. Industry experts estimate that the total face amount of life insurance held by all banks in the U.S. on their employees now exceeds half a trillion dollars.
When the General Accountability Office (GAO) looked into the matter for Congress in 2003 and 2004, it found the insidious practice of continuing the life insurance even after the employee had left the company – nullifying any ability to consider him or her a “key” to the business. The GAO wrote: “Unless prohibited by state law, businesses can retain ownership of these policies regardless of whether the employment relationship has ended.” The GAO found that multiple companies held life insurance policies on the same individual.
In 2006, Congress passed the Pension Protection Act which included a section on these policies. Instead of outlawing BOLI and its corporate sibling, Corporate Owned Life Insurance (COLI), Congress grandfathered all of the millions of previously issued policies while tweaking a few tax and reporting rules.
One bedrock of insurance law dating back to the 19th Century is that a party must have an insurable interest in the life of another person in order to take out an insurance policy. The U.S. Supreme Court held in Warnock v. Davis in 1881 that “in all cases there must be a reasonable ground, founded upon the relations of the parties to each other, either pecuniary or of blood or affinity, to expect some benefit or advantage from the continuance of the life of the assured. Otherwise the contract is a mere wager, by which the party taking the policy is directly interested in the early death of the assured. Such policies have a tendency to create a desire for the event. They are, therefore, independently of any statute on the subject, condemned, as being against public policy.”
While it is highly questionable that rank and file employees are “key” to the success of a business, there is certainly no question that their contribution to the business ends when they terminate their employment. And yet, somehow, banks are allowed to collect death benefits on terminated workers right under the nose of State insurance regulators. The explanation is likely the secrecy which surrounds these policies, limiting knowledge of death payments to just the bank and the insurance company.
One reason banks are enamored with taking out policies on other people’s lives and keeping the practice as hush-hush as possible with the willing consent of regulators is that the gullible U.S. taxpayer who bailed out the banks to the tune of trillions of dollars from 2008 to 2010 and is now subsidizing too-big-to-fail through an implied permanent Federal backstop, is also subsidizing these death wagers. Both the buildup in the cash value of the policy over time and the payment of the death benefit are tax-free income to the bank; the more workers they insure, the more tax-free income they receive to help their bottom line; and the less corporations pay in their share of Federal income taxes, shifting more and more of the burden to the struggling middle class.
Banks have also exploited other tricks with the billions invested in these policies. JPMorgan is the assignee for Patent number 5,806,042 at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, titled “System for Designing and Implementing Bank Owned Life Insurance (BOLI) With a Reinsurance Option.” Noteworthy features of this scheme include the following:
“The purposes of the consent requirements and statutory requirements for insurable interest are to insure that a bank does not take out a death benefit policy on the life of an employee which exceeds the bank’s loss. In general, a bank may take out a death benefit policy in the amount which is a multiple of 8-10 times the annual compensation of that employee…”
“Reinsuring the BOLI plan by a captive insurance subsidiary of the parent bank or holding company allows the bank to augment the cash value gains of the BOLI plan by providing cash revenue sources from fee income associated with investment and trust management. Reinsurance also minimizes the impact to the bank’s profit and loss statement by keeping the assets within the corporate structure of the bank holding company…”
“The administrative support subsystem performs periodic sweeps of social security records to identify death claims for covered employees who have terminated or retired…”
Whether JPMorgan is providing its own reinsurance through an affiliate or just suggesting this patented idea to others is unknown. What is known is that JPMorgan has multiple insurance subsidiaries in both the U.S. and the U.K. When the final Volcker Rule was published, it carried this notation in footnote 1813: “This requirement is not intended to preclude a banking entity from purchasing a life insurance policy from an affiliated insurance company.”
It is doubtful that regulators are fully aware that BOLI assets may actually remain under the control and management of the banks, rather than the insurance companies providing the death benefits.
On March 15 of last year when Senator Carl Levin opened the hearing on the $6.2 billion in losses of depositors’ money in the exotic derivative bets by JPMorgan’s London Whale trading fiasco, he chastised the bank for failing to make loans to worthy businesses. Levin said JPMorgan had “the lowest loan-to-deposit ratio of the big banks, lending just 61 percent of its deposits out in loans.” Apparently, said Levin, “it was too busy betting on derivatives to issue the loans needed to speed economic recovery.”
Ina Drew, the head of the Chief Investment Office (CIO) at JPMorgan responsible in 2012 for overseeing the London Whale trades (who has since left the firm) revealed in her testimony to Levin’s committee that she was also overseeing the “company-owned-life-insurance portfolio…”
Drew testified:
“The CIO engaged in a wide range of asset-liability management activities. As of the first quarter of 2012, the CIO managed the Company’s $350 billion investment securities portfolio (this portfolio exceeded $500 billion during 2008 and 2009), the $17 billion foreign exchange hedging book, the $13 billion employee retirement plan, the $9 billion company-owned-life insurance portfolio, the strategically-important MSR hedging book, and a series of other books including the cash and synthetic credit portfolios.”
Banking used to be a simple business to understand. The bank took in insured deposits and then loaned out the money at a higher rate than it paid on the deposits to people needing loans to buy homes, to start new businesses or expand existing ones. But then came the 1999 repeal of the Glass-Steagall Act, which had kept commercial banks separate from Wall Street trading houses since the Great Depression, and the partial repeal of the Bank Holding Company Act of 1956 which had barred commercial banks from merging with insurance companies.
As a result of those repeals through legislation known as the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act, Wall Street’s behemoth banks are more dangerous than at any time since the 1929 crash. The banks are essentially everywhere you don’t want your insured deposits to be. Each mega bank now owns thousands of other businesses in fields like insurance, mergers and acquisitions, stock and bond underwriting, securitizations, commodities trading, structuring of exotic derivative bets, and the latest – making tens of billions of dollars in wagers on the deaths of their own employees.
Because nothing in the banks’ financial filings break out the number of lives the company has insured; how far down in rank the company insures its workers; or the total amount of life insurance it has in force, Wall Street On Parade sent two emails to two of JPMorgan’s top media relations personnel asking those questions. We gave them four days to respond. Despite pointing out that the questions go to the heart of the quality of earnings of JPMorgan Chase, an issue to which shareholders are entitled to transparency under U.S. securities laws, neither individual responded

Thank-you Carol. There are a lot of things I'd rather do -- but I seem to be in the middle of modeling something which might be highly significant. It's as if I have a dragon by the tail -- and I'm afraid to let go. In fact -- what if I really am dealing with dragons (on some level)?? Galactic Politics and Religion aren't for everyone OR is there a Theocratic Church, State, and Legal-System which IS intended for EVERYONE throughout the universe?? 10/30/2014 After listening to several different presentations on the coming collapse of the dollar, I found this interview with Dr. Ron Paul. When he was in congress, he wanted the Fed audited. Didn't happen. He states that real wages has not gone up for the middle class or poor people in a number of years. He talks about the impact of the BRIC countries and how the USA is very vulnerable. Benjamin Fulford: Desperate cabal loots Japanese pension funds to buy time 1 By The Event Chronicle on November 3, 2014 · Intel
(Benjamin Fulford) Strange financial market and geopolitical maneuvers last week make it clear the end days of the cabal are fast approaching. The clearest sign was the wholesale looting of Japan’s national pension fund by the Japanese slave government on behalf of the cabal. This bought the cabal some time by propping up the US government bond and stock markets but it failed to change the fundamental picture.
Here is what happened last week in the markets: First, the Federal Reserve Board, under new management, announced last week it would no longer buy US Treasury Bonds. Then Singapore, the largest financial market in Asia, follows London, Frankfurt, Seoul, Paris, Luxembourg, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao in allowing free trade in Chinese Yuan. Next Japan’s government announces an 80 trillion yen money printing splurge as well as the looting of the 127 trillion yen government pension investment fund. The Japanese money is being poured into US government bonds and cabal owned stocks causing the ongoing crack high in the markets.
It has also started a currency war because the Chinese have responded to the yen printing splurge with a yuan printing splurge.
Make no mistake though of which side will win the financial and economic war, the numbers do not lie. China produces 11 times more steel than the US, has the world’s greatest foreign currency reserves, has the most gold, accounts for a bigger share of global trade and has a massive cumulative trade surplus with the US. The most telling sign is that the biggest Chinese export to the US is computer equipment while the biggest US export to China is “scrap and trash.” Finally, the BRICS alliance that China is a part of controls 188 nations, the far greatest proportion of the world economy and more than 80% of its people. Looting Japan only buys time, it will never buy victory.
The Japanese slave government is also cracking down on dissidents. Last week Chodoin Daikaku, head of the world’s martial arts societies, was arrested on trumped up charges in an attempt to pre-empt the overthrow of the Abe slave government. This comes on top of the ongoing imprisonment of illuminati grandmaster Alexander Romanov (real name Sasa Zaric) at the Inagidai mental hospital. This writer may also soon be arrested on trumped up charges by the Abe slave government.
The Abe regime is controlled by a group known as the Seiwa Kai which is ostensibly headed by former prime minister Yasuhiro Nakasone but in reality reports to George Bush Senior and the Nazionists.
The Japanese also announced last week via their proxy North Korea that they have nuclear missile carrying submarines. The message is that the soon to emerge unified Korean and Japanese nation of Kopan will be nuclear powered.
This is all part of a big showdown taking place worldwide against the Nazionists and their allies. The Nazionists are now mounting what could well be their last offensive before final defeat. The most obvious symptom of that is Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu using the phrase “grassy knoll” in a speech, referring to the location of the Kennedy assassination. This has been widely interpreted as an assassination threat against US President Barack Obama.
The threat follows Obama officials’ refusal to meet with the Israeli Defense Minister as well as references by US officials to Netanyahu as “chickenshit.” There was also a cartoon in the Israeli daily Haaretz portraying Netanyahu as a pilot flying a plane into the world trade center building. The implicit message is that a lot of people are going to be hung from lamp-posts soon unless the Nazionists back down.
Israeli and US troops have been fighting each other using proxies in Syria since ISIS is run by Mossad and the US airforce is bombing them and losing planes in the process.
There will also be evidence presented next week at a criminal trial in London that the 311 tsunami and nuclear disaster in Japan was a deliberate act of mass murder and that Netanyahu was one of the instigators.
The US mid-term elections now taking place are also using paper ballots instead of rigged electronic voting in a move that will help purge Washington D.C. of Nazionist controlled politicians.
The situation is also changing in Europe to the detriment of the Nazionists. The French are going ahead with their plan to start buying oil in Rubles and not US dollars despite the recent murder of the head of the French oil company Total. This has resulted in unmarked drones being seen flying around French nuclear power plants. The message is “we will sabotage your nuclear facilities if you abandon the petrodollar.” The French are now sending mixed messages about whether or not they will hand over to Russia the two helicopter carrying battleships they built for them.
The British are also moving away from the Nazionists with their ongoing purge of pedophiles and their overall move to distance themselves from the EU. They have also been pioneers in acknowledging the Chinese yuan was taking over from the petrodollar as the world’s reserve currency.
In the Ukraine, the parallel elections in the East and West of the country have now pretty much formalized the permanent split of that country. The Russians are now expected to mount, via proxies, an offensive to clear out the last of the foreign mercenaries still trying to provoke war in the Ukraine. The Eastern part of Ukraine is already de facto once again part of Russia. The Russians are also sending their nuclear bombers in all directions to underline the fact they mean business and are ready for nuclear war if they are pushed too far by the cabal controlled countries

I am reproducing the full text of Joel Skousen’s critique of World Bank whistleblower Karen Hudes in his November 22, 2013 World Affairs Brief (worldaffairsbrief.com) in response to increasingly bold claims by her and corresponding scrutiny of them.
“ANALYZING CLAIMS OF WORLD BANK INSIDER KAREN HUDES Karen Hudes worked as a lawyer for the World Bank and claims to be a whistleblower revealing massive corruption at the Bank. Everything she says about the situation there is correct:
Think of the World Bank as Enron. The World Bank has issued over $180 billion in bonds on the world’s capital markets, but its financial statements are not accurate. The US Congress has been unsuccessful in resolving this problem, first identified by the Joint Economic Committee in 2005. The World Bank stonewalled Senator Lugar’s and Congressman Van Hollen’s four requests for the advice of the executive search firm following my disclosure of internal control lapses during my interview for General Counsel. I have been fulfilling my professional responsibilities as the World Bank’s lawyer to bring the World Bank into compliance.
But the World Bank did not want to comply, so she became a whistleblower along with several other bank employees like Elaine Coville of Scotland. Together they lobbied Parliament to reign in the World Bank but the political PTB in the US and UK stonewalled and covered up the corruption. The World Bank has hundreds of “directors” giving each of the member countries a tiny say on the Board. But Hudes reveals that many have been blackmailed into going along and not exposing the corruption: “I have just returned from Holland, and learned there that Messrs. Wijffels and Melkert [the representatives of the Dutch on the World Bank's Board of Directors] have informed the Dutch public that they were subjected to investigations of their private lives as a form of diplomatic blackmail. According to Mr. Wijffels, other executive directors on the World Bank’s Board have been similarly intimidated.
Within her area of expertise, Mrs. Hudes is right on target. But like many whistleblowers who start to get a glimpse of the globalist control system, she has begun to make statements claiming to understand the much broader globalist conspiracy and that’s where I have a few problems with her claims. Yes, there is a larger global conspiracy against national sovereignty but many of her extraneous claims are outlandish or invented out of thin air. Actually, I read her as very sincere, so I don’t think she is knowingly lying. But often whistleblowers like Hudes start getting “help” from disinformation experts in government who feed whistleblowers like her false information to undermine their credibility. Here’s a brief review of her other claims (my response in brackets):
1. Financial corruption within the world financial system, and that the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) are two similar corruption international organs controlled by the same private financial powers. [TRUE]
2. Those that control the international monetary system also control the media, and people are being brainwashed and deceived about what is really going on. [TRUE]
3. If we could just get one country to expose this, we could turn this around.[FALSE. The PTB have too much control over the high politicians in every Western country, via blackmail mostly.]
4. 40% of our tax dollars go to UK and 60% to the Vatican [FALSE. Yes, the City of London (a city within London, controlled by the international bankers) and the Vatican bank are deeply involved in this international corruption and collusion, but this claim about the UK and the Vatican having first claim on US tax money is ludicrous. The FED keeps the world financial system afloat with new money, but there is no necessity to collar tax receipts and physically ship them overseas. That’s not how anything works in the dark side of globalism.]
5. She claims we are financing our government by selling drugs [Partly TRUE. Old information and no longer true to this degree. Yes, the US still runs the largest international drug smuggling operation, in combination with selected cartels, but that money is now a pittance compared to what our government spends and creates through electronic journal entries, outside of congressional supervision.]
6. She claims the money to UK is war reparations from the 1812 war and that England has to pay off loans the Vatican made in the 1800s to it for war. [FALSE. She’s been reading too many anti-Vatican conspiracy books. My main complaint about many conspiracy books is that the authors claim to know more than anyone could know without being on the inside. And if they are on the inside, then you couldn’t trust what they write anyway.]
7. Lincoln issued greenbacks directly via the treasury and that’s why he was rubbed out [True that he issued greenbacks directly, but False that this was somehow more virtuous and that the bankers killed him for it. Many conservatives think that using the treasury to issue fiat currency is somehow proper, but it isn’t. Any issuance of fiat currency is evil and a theft of private value. Don’t fall for this one. All currency should be redeemable in a physical commodity and the only role of government is to make sure there is no fraud in money.]
8. JFK was killed for erasing the interest on the US debt and trying to cut the FED out of the process. Also that “banksters” are trying to keep us in debt and crash the dollar. [The killing of JFK by the dark side of our own government is a massive conspiracy and nobody knows all the reasons. He was trying to reign in the CIA and the FED, but the PTB are NOT trying to crash the dollar or they would have done it long ago. Yes, they want to keep other countries in debt to the World Bank and IMF so they can dictate and control their economic policy, but that isn’t true domestically. The PTB love deficit spending because it keeps government from having to tax people for evil policies and foreign interventions that the public would resist (due to the high price). Continually increasing debt becomes a threat to their system of not taxing the common person—as default will eventually prohibit any more deficits. But, default is at least 15 years away, so they still have time to play this game.]
9. Board members to the World bank were being blackmailed when they tried to fire Wolfowitz after he gave a huge salary increase to his girlfriend at the bank. [TRUE]
10. She gets into claims that the PTB are using Maritime law to govern property and marriages and that bonds are being issued for each child born, for collateral and control [Completely FALSE. They have more than enough power and control over Congress and the courts and don’t need such archaic legal mechanisms nowadays. Besides, even if this were true a non-insider working in an administrative legal capacity at the WB would never be privy to this kind of admission.]
11. We have 49 out of 50 States that have called for a constitutional convention (Con Con) which is the way to take back our Republic and demand our rights. [FALSE on all counts, and constitutional conservatives would never even get appointed by state governors to serve at the convention—they would stack it with establishment legislators and lawyers and we’d be worse off than when we started.]
12. 170,000 tons of gold in the Bank of Hawaii. The CIA’s purpose is to protect the gold, Vatican controls the CIA. [FALSE and ridiculous. Once again, how could she know this? How do you get from being a lowly admin lawyer at the WB and know all this stuff. It doesn’t come from insider info, but rather from reading too many conspiracy books that are amplifying a few known conspiracy truths and then adding a lot of garbage details to make it appear they have insider knowledge. But there is zero proof nor confirmation of these details.]
13. Obama’s mother was a CIA agent and Michelle fell into a honey trap [seduced], was compromised in a hotel. [FALSE. There’s plenty of dirt about Obama’s background and non-citizen status, but this claim isn’t credible. It tells me a disinformation agent has got her ear and pumping it full of false claims to get her discredited. The claims about the CIA connection are more true about Obama than with his mother, who was a marxist. Wayne Madsen used a lot of circumstantial connections to say that Obama’s mother Ann Dunham worked “on behalf of a number of CIA front operations, including the East-West Center at the University of Hawaii, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), and the Ford Foundation.” The East-West Center had long been affiliated with CIA activities in the Asia-Pacific region, Madsen says, but just because the CIA has at one time or another used these organizations as cover for various agents, doesn’t mean that everyone who ever had any relationship there was also CIA. Bad logic]
14. On the 8th of October there was supposed to be a nuclear bomb detonated over SC—two army officers made sure it was dropped in the sea where it exploded. Then they were fired. 80 generals and top brass are now being fired. These are people protecting the citizens of the US. [This idiotic rumor continues to grow more and more bizarre each week. In summary, Hudes is not herself a disinformation agent and I believe her to be sincere, but she’s way beyond her pay grade when she starts repeating junk theories that she reads elsewhere or that are fed to her by disinformation sources. She should stick to what she knows first-hand.”
