I have a version of this house. Just waiting for the land to be made available.

Great way of building. Sure it is good against tornados and hurricanes.

    S A V I N G S   I N   B U I L D I N G   M A T E R I A L   18-40%

So far, around ten of these houses have been built (4 in Novi Sad, in Sombor, Zaječar, Ljig... (Serbia)). The first one was built in 1979, and all relevant factors concerning this construction method have been monitored. It has been shown that the energy savings in this solar sod house are 85%, tenants are very satisfied with accommodation, and the construction costs are less than the construction of the over-ground house. This type of house was the first to have both a high degree of construction savings and heating savings. Watch eco-house videos - click here!

Instead of a traditional roof, ecological house has a layer of soil, protecting the house from low winter and high summer temperatures. In addition, walls are protected from erosion. Ecological house does not require deep foundation, large area for heating material, heating installations etc.

Picture 1. Vertical section of the eco house with soil protection

during winter (left image) and summer (right image) insulation

Savings in heating is based on reflecting surfaces i.e. surfaces that reflect direct and diffuse radiation of the Sun (around 80%). These are glossy coats (of lacquer and paint), aluminium foils and metal sheets on hard surface. You can also use milk-white paint, which is also acceptable since there is not much diffusion loss because the reflecting surfaces are positioned next to the window.

The upper reflecting surface is built into the eaves of the object and is fixed. The lower one is positioned under the window and can serve as a shutter.

Special attention should be paid to reflecting surfaces, since they are the cheapest solar device which, in addition to heating, also increases the presence of light within the object.

Glossy foils, metal sheets and coats on hard surface can be positioned on upper or lower part of the house. Upper reflecting surface is fixed and built into the eaves, and the lower one is movable and can be used as a shutter.

Reflecting surfaces are the cheapest solar device which, in addition to heating, also increases the presence of light within the object. Eco house in Novi Sad (Serbia), for example, had savings in lightning of 30%.

Picture 2. Reflecting surfaces placed under and above the window can be used

    successfully, without blinding the tenants

Veljko Milković still develops and improves this principle of building the self-heating eco-houses.

Watching the Earth-Venus dance for eight years creates this beautiful five-petal flower with the Sun at the center.

The planets move in exquisite orbital patterns, dancing to the Music of the Cosmos. There is more geometric harmony than we realize.

This Is What Happens When You Blow Soap Bubbles at -9°C (15,8°F)

When the weather forecast announced about the unexpected cold from -9°C to -12°C last week, Washington-based photographer Angela Kelly decided to take an advantage of it in one truly creative way. Together with her 7-year-old son, Kelly combined the home-based remedies – dish soap, karo syrup, and water – and went out to blow bubbles and take pictures as they freeze and melt.

Soon the two adventurers found themselves in awe while watching the frost create magical patterns in the freezing bubbles. The smaller ones would freeze momentarily, simply mid-air, and then they would fall down and scatter like thin glass chips. The bigger ones would manage to freeze more slowly on the surface, giving the photographer a chance to catch the artworks of the frost on camera.

“We noted how they would freeze completely before the sun rose but that once the sun was in view they would defrost along the tops or cease freezing altogether.“ recalls Kelly to the KOMO News. “We also noted how they would begin to deflate and implode in on themselves making them look like alien shapes or in some cases shatter completely leaving them to look like a cracked egg.”

The process and the results of the photoshoot were highly rewarding for the photographer and her little one. “Are we ever too old to play with bubbles?” Kelly asks rhetoricaly. “I really think that this is the most fun, unique and beautiful series I’ve done yet!”

This is late, but we had to share it, On Dec 30th on Ukraine, protesters held up mirrors for 30 minutes for the police to see what they have become. This was in response to the beating of the protesters that participated in a peaceful demonstration earlier.

They also held placards asking them “Who and what are you protecting?"

This Indian Man Planted an Entire Forest by Hand

If all people decided to take action every time an injustice was witnessed, there would never be any need for squabble to detract from the opportunities at hand. This is exactly what Jadav Payeng decided when he realized his home in India’s northern Assam region needed more trees to protect its wildlife.

It all started in 1979 when large floods washed a great amount of snakes ashore the sandbar near the then-16-year-old’s home. After the tide had receded, Payeng found the place dotted with the dead reptiles; this spurred a turning point in his life.

“The snakes died in the heat, without any tree cover. I sat down and wept over their lifeless forms. It was carnage. I alerted the forest department and asked them if they could grow trees there. They said nothing would grow there. Instead, they asked me to try growing bamboo. It was painful, but I did it. There was nobody to help me. Nobody was interested,” says Payeng, now 47.

After the eye-opening event, Jadav then began burying seeds along the barren sandbar to grow a refuge for wildlife. It has taken over thirty years for his hard work to receive well-deserved attention internationally, but it didn’t take long for the region to benefit from the manufactured forest. To date, Jadav has planted over 1,360 acres of forest on his own.
