Did anyone besides me wonder how they got all those and distributed far and wide, including to all the national parks and cemeteries overseas only eight to ten hours after the government shut down?  Take a look at this from someone who wanted to remain anonymous.

I have worked in the government on and off for 40 years.  During that time I became quite familiar with requisitions, bidding, awarding contracts etc.  It is a time consuming process with bean-counters and pencil-necked bureaucrats every  of the way.  The simplest request takes months not days or hours.

In less than 8 hours of the shutdown, miraculously, professionally printed 3X4 foot signs appeared all over the country in the tens of thousands saying - “this [park, facility, etc. with custom logos] closed due to government shutdown.  There has not been a government shutdown in 17 years. These signs were designed, specifications were determined, signs were then requisitioned, bids were posted and vetted, government contracts were awarded.  The materials were then ordered and the signs manufactured then distributed U.S. Mails or -

This shutdown was orchestrated and planned well in advance at least 6-8 months ago.  Millions of tax dollars were appropriated and spent in this process.  There is a paper trail a mile long leading directly to the White House.

A LAST MINUTE TACTIC FAILS & THE USA GOVERNMENT SHUTS DOWN -- WHAT HAPPENS NEXT ??? - Page 2 Harry-Reid-and-Obama-008
Majority leader Harry Reid hopes for deal with Mitch McConnell 'in next 48 hours'
after Obama rejects six-week debt ceiling extension offered by House Republicans.

    Article: http://www.theguardian.com/world/2013/oct/12/white-house-talks-republicans-no-deal-shutdown
Two senior senators have taken on the fraught process of finding a congressional deal to reopen the US government and raise the country's borrowing limit, just four days before the Treasury is scheduled to run out of money.

The Democratic Senate majority leader, Harry Reid, and his Republican counterpart, Mitch McConnell, long-time adversaries, met on Saturday morning after it became clear that a separate attempt to broker a deal, between the Republican-dominated House of Representatives and the White House, had failed.

Focus shifted to the Senate when President Barack Obama rejected a plan from House Republicans to extend the so-called debt ceiling by just six weeks and made no offer lift the US government shutdown. Reid told reporters his meeting with McConnell had been "cordial" and added that they were only at preliminary stages.

"We don't have anything done yet – there's a long way to go before something like that will happen," he said, adding that he hoped to achieve a deal "in the next 48 hours".

Reid, McConnell and two other senators – the Tennessee Republican Lamar Alexander and New York Democrat Charles Schumer – met in Reid's office at 9am on Saturday, for just under an hour. Later in the day, Reid and Schumer met Obama in the Oval Office at the White House.

The four senators were described by a senior congressional aide as a "nucleus" that could now rescue the country from default. However at a press conference, Reid and Schumer expressed only cautious optimism, and after a strategy meeting with fellow Democrats, the California senator Dianne Feinstein said she could not see any way through the current impasse. "There are people that have different proposals – there are probably four or five of those," she said. "But the proposals that will get the leadership of the House, the Senate, and the president, are not out there at this time."

On the Senate floor, a Democratic procedural measure that would have moved the Senate to a vote to extend ceiling through the end of 2014, with no contingencies attached, fell after it failed to secure the 60 votes required.

There was then hope that a bipartisan bill, by the Maine Republican senator Susan Collins with input from a West Virginia Democrat, Joe Manchin, might offer a way forward. That would have increased the borrowing limit until January 2014 and reopening the government until March, in return for concessions aimed at pleasing Republicans, who precipiated the crisis when they failed to pass a budget resolution to ontinue the funding of federal services without measures designed to undermine the Act, Obama's signature healthcare reform.

However in a sign of the disarray that has affected an apparently directionless Capitol Hill, interest in that proposal lasted no more than a few hours.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and his counterpart, Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell appear closer to a deal. After a morning of negotiations, both Senate leaders expressed optimism that a deal is in the works. Reid called negotiations with McConnell “constructive,” adding that he’s “optimistic that we will reach an agreement.” McConnell said he “echo[s]” Reid’s remarks.

But until the hands shake, the clock keeps ticking.

Because momentum has increased, a meeting between President Obama and top House and Senate leaders was supposed to take place at the White House this afternoon has been postponed “to allow leaders in the Senate time to continue making important progress towards a solution.

Reported by Dana Bass, CNN, the Senate is actively working on a deal. (This is the deal plan being worked on) Continue funding the budget through January 15. The debt ceiling for February 15. However, continuing work details must be completed by December 13, on both budget and debt ceiling; by designated budget negotiators. There were discussions on Affordable Care Act adjustments. There is another working group to meet around 5:45 PM, to bridge the Senate and House plans to get the agreement done. The Congress is working through things today, and thus meeting with the President was cancelled at 3 PM. It seems progress is moving.

Senate debt deal 'very possible': Sen. Bob Corker
    Monday, 14 Oct 2013 | 9:03 AM ET
Sen. Bob Corker, (R-TN), says some Republicans overreached on Obamacare while some Democrats overreached by wanting to bust the budget control act, yet a compromise could be forthcoming, as Senators Reid and McConnell work on a debt deal.
The expectation that a debt deal may be forthcoming from talks between Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and Republican leader Mitch McConnell is "very possible," Sen. Bob Corker, R-Tenn., told CNBC on Monday.
"I've had some good conversations early this morning. It is between Mitch and Harry. And I think people want to see that come to fruition," said Corker, a member of the Senate Banking Committee.
But, he added in a "Squawk Box" interview, "the wildcard is what happens if we do something here when it goes over the House." ....

Christine Lagarde, head of the International Monetary Fund, said Saturday the consequences of a failure to raise the debt limit would be dire for economies around the world.

"You know, I've just spent the last two days with representatives of about 188 countries around the world. I wouldn't say they are confident. I would say they are concerned, and they are very anxious to see this crisis resolved, because they know it's going to impact on their economy," Lagarde told CNN’s Richard Quest at an Institute of International Finance conference in Washington.

A LAST MINUTE TACTIC FAILS & THE USA GOVERNMENT SHUTS DOWN -- WHAT HAPPENS NEXT ??? - Page 2 Empty Re: A LAST MINUTE TACTIC FAILS & THE USA GOVERNMENT SHUTS DOWN -- WHAT HAPPENS NEXT ???

Post  Carol Tue Oct 15, 2013 10:09 am

This is a quote from Dr. Simon Atkins: when will the (US government) shutdown last?

There USED to be a time when the risk or probability of a USA debt default was zero. That no longer exists. THE Default is the major issue, with the shutdown taking a big back-seat comparatively.

But, much of this about the shutdown is all theatrics, sadly. The Administration and the Establishment can swiftly put an end to all this 'rubbish'. But they want chaos, and fear. This is how an administration, that doesn't respect the Constitution, runs itself and the People.

To see a better explanation of all this, please go here:
    [link to http://www.zerohedge.com/contributed/2013-10-12/fed-could-simply-cancel-2-trillion-government-debt. ]

Ultimately, America's default is inevitable. But the 'play-out' will be full of illusions and complexities, far beyond our wildest imagination.

China will likely spin this 'out of control' (much further) by injecting a new 'wrench' -- and 'ganging-up' on the USA with a bunch of other countries to make a new Reserve Currency.

Lake Mead property owners forced out until shutdown ends

    CREATED Oct. 4, 2013
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- The government shutdown is being felt close to home for some locals. They say they're being forced out of private homes on Lake Mead because they sit on federal land.

Joyce Spencer is 77-years-old and her husband Ralph is 80. They've been spending most of their time in the family ice cream store since going home isn't an option.

The Spencers never expected to be forced out of their Lake Mead home, which they've owned since the 70s, but on Thursday, a park ranger said they had 24 hours to get out.

"I had to go to town today and buy Ralph undershirts and jeans because I forgot his pants," Joyce Spencer told Action News.

The Stewart's Point home sits on federal land, so even though the Spencers own their cabin outright, they're not allowed in until the government reopens.

Park officials said property owners can visit only to retrieve belongings; they sent Action News a statement which reads in part, "Unfortunately overnight stays are not permitted until a budget is passed and the park can reopen."

Joyce Spencer said she's alright in the meantime, staying with nearby family, but the move was a lot to handle as a senior citizen.

"I had to be sure and get his walker and his scooter that he has to go in," Spencer said. "We're not hurt in any way except it might cost me if I have to go buy more pants."

The Lake Mead properties are considered vacation homes; one of the lease requirements to own a plot is people must have an alternative residence.

Regardless, the Spencers said it's their property and they should be allowed in, shutdown or not.
