Electric cars get a boost in Obama budget plan
Buyers of plug-in cars like the Nissan Leaf qualify for a $7,500 tax credit.

Stan Meyer's Dune Buggy that ran on water. Hydrogen/Oxygen fuel in an ICE motor. On board electrolysis, no hydrogen tanks, no bombs on-board, just water. (1998) It ran 100 miles per gallon! The 2nd best inventor of the Century, besides Tesla, who was and will always be #1. Stan is the mustard seed of Water Powered Cars! The video left above is a one timed aired news cast, from his home town of Grove City , Ohio that you are not to view. The video screen to the right is a segment of the Equinox program about Stanley aired back in Dec. 1995 (approx.) See the entire program entitled "It Runs on Water" narrated by Arthur C. Clarke in video clips below.
It is in 4 parts, made possible by Andy the WizardKing from Blackpool, England.
    Part 1 • Part 2 • Part 3 • Part 4

He was a shame to hear that he was poisoned (March 98') and longer with us. He died in the parking lot of a restaurant in his home town of Grove City, Ohio. Sharks came a week later and stole the the dune buggy and all of his experimental equipment, according to his brother, Steve. Stan said while he was alive, that he was threatened many times and would not sell out to Arab Oil Corp.s The Military was going to use this technology in their tanks, jeeps, etc. He had patents on his invention and was ready for production. Only $1,500 to equip your car! See the Videos above. No gasoline, just water. Stanley said he was offered a billion dollars from an Arab to basically shelf his idea. Stan said, "no, this technology is for the people." Who you suppose poisoned Stan? A jealous onlooker? Do you think the Oil Corp.'s are happy to see a converted car running for FREE?? Our own US DOE, and the present administration are heavily involved in the Oil business. If GW wanted my respect,I'd have inventors like Stan on TV and with me in the White House, discussing how to save this dying planet and break the bonds of ruled corruption and greed. I have read the DOE's hydrogen & fuel cell technology and they don't mention making hydrogen from pure water, until the last page. They rather get hydrogen from hydrocarbons. They don't mention "On Board Hydrogen Electrolysis" make the egas as you go. They talk about Hydrogen Gas Stations at how much per gallon?

So what is happening with Stan's Great Invention of the 20th Century!! Absolutely nothing. Are they manufacturing his invention. NO, Why not? because it would solve all the world's problems today. That is NOT how politics work, MONEY is the ruler here. Common Sense is NOT for humans, only good for OUTLAWS & so called terrorists.? Huh? We live in a time when good is spoken of as evil and evil spoken up as good. Why do I say that because it is true. We were told the US twin towers was taken down by airplanes, when the truth is, it was taken down by C4 explosives. William Rodriguez holds the master key, he was there that day, he lost his job and 250 of his friends and colleges. Connect the dots, it is that simple. Sorry to have shocked you and made your face turn red, but Building #7 came down in 7 seconds, not reported in the 911 commission report. No planes hit that building, only a few offices fires happened. It was all too fishy from me, and continues to stink like a dead rat.

All they talk about is hydrogen gas stations run by Shell and a Canadian Oil Firm. Then they talk all about "hydrogen fuel cells" which take a lifetime of gas burned just to make one fuel cell. A hydrogen fuel cell factory is a real SMOG factory. To explain better read on. There Fuel Cells are not as efficient as a "On board Hydrogen Electrolysis" fuel cell. Stan made the gas as he drove, no hydrogen tanks, no fuel cells, no need for Shell Hydrogen Stations. He spent 30 years of research all on his own.

The United States government offers a $7,500 tax credit for purchasing a Tesla and many other financial incentives exist in other countries around the world.

Fueling with electricity instead of petroleum is a sound financial decision. Depending on utility rates, the Tesla Roadster costs as little as $5 to charge, equivalent to $0.02 per mile. Alternatively, a gasoline-powered car rated to 20 mpg costs about $0.15 per mile. Up to 245 miles per charge for pre 2012 models.

    ELECTRIC & H2O CARS & MOTORCYCLES Hero_models_3qtr
    2012 only $49,000

Choose from one of three battery pack options to suit typical driving needs: 160, 230, or 300 miles per charge. Concerned with Range Anxiety? Like the Roadster, the Model S is engineered to plug into nearly any outlet, anywhere in the world. With the ability to recharge in 45 minutes, the car begs to be driven everywhere you want to go. http://www.teslamotors.com/models/specs

    - 160, 230, or 300 mile range pack
    - 45 minute QuickCharge

At $49,000k I think I'll wait for a used model or go with the H20 car. Living in the middle of the Pacific I don't think we'll ever run out of water. lol!

Futuristic Bubble Car Takes Us for a Ride at CES
Ride along with us inside GM's EN-V (Electric Networked Vehicle), a tiny two-seater with a 40-mile range that whisked us around a hotel ballroom in smooth, quiet comfort.
The little two-seater, employing the same balancing-act technology as the Segway scooter, sheds the two-wheeled scooter's nerdy Mall Cop image for a Pac-Man-esque bubble design.
It was a hoot to take this egg-shaped hotrod for a spin inside a controlled environment, but we're not quite sure how it would do on the mean streets of the real world — say, pitted against a giant SUV.
But so what? Maybe the future this precocious car occupies doesn't include SUVs.
That said, it gets even more sci-fi: The EN-V has an autonomous mode, where you can sit back, texting and enjoying your morning coffee while its GPS-driven navi system takes care of the driving for you. Sounds great, but GM wasn't demonstrating that feature to us quite yet. We'll believe that when we see it.
Didn't we already see a bubble car like this in a Woody Allen movie? Maybe so, but this cute conveyance is not available for sale yet -- it's a concept vehicle thus far -- but it feels refined enough to hit the streets (or at least a golf course) before too long.

Ford to Hire 7,000 to Help Make Electric, Hybrid Cars
Ford Motor Co., revealing three new electric or hybrid vehicles to the public today, plans to hire more than 7,000 workers in the next two years, including engineers with expertise in battery-powered cars.

Ford will hire 4,000 factory workers and 750 engineers this year and add 2,500 hourly workers next year, Mark Fields, Ford’s president of the Americas, said today at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

Ford plans to recruit engineers at the show, where the company is debuting the Focus Electric car, the C-Max Energi plug-in hybrid and the C-Max Hybrid gasoline-electric wagon today. The automaker has said electric and hybrid vehicles may account for as much as 25 percent of its sales by 2020.

GM's Volt Plug-in Hybrid Wins Car of the Year AwardGeneral Motors Co.’s Chevrolet Volt was named North American Car of the Year as the largest U.S. auto show began in Detroit.

GM’s electric-gasoline Volt beat Nissan Motor Co.’s all- electric Leaf and Hyundai Motor Co.’s Sonata sedan, the Automotive Press Association announced today at the North American International Auto Show. Ford Motor Co.’s Explorer sport-utility vehicle was awarded truck of the year.

The wins by a plug-in car in GM’s Volt and an SUV touted for its efficiency in the Ford Explorer reflect the auto industry’s investment in the notion that fuel economy will increasingly affect consumers’ purchase decisions, Michelle Krebs, a senior analyst at Edmunds.com, said in an interview.

“Even though the sales aren’t there yet, it’s sort of a chicken-and-egg thing,” said Krebs, one of the 49 automotive journalists and analysts who voted to decide the winners. “We have to go there, but the sales aren’t there yet. Americans still love their SUVs.”

The awards kick off Detroit’s annual show where automakers including Toyota Motor Corp. and Volkswagen AG are expected to unveil more than 30 new vehicles, according to show organizers.

Ford won both awards in 2010 with the Fusion hybrid sedan and Transit Connect commercial van. That was the third time in 17 years that one automaker had won both awards.

    Battery Power

The Volt runs for about 40 miles (64 kilometers) on an electric charge before a small gasoline engine kicks in to recharge the battery and extends the range to more than 350 miles, according to Detroit-based GM.

The Volt began sales in December for $41,000. Buyers are eligible for a $7,500 tax credit for plug-in hybrids and electric cars.

Ford began selling the Explorer late last year and will sell a version with a smaller, 4-cylinder engine. The standard Explorer with a V-6 engine gets 25 mpg on the highway, according to the Dearborn, Michigan-based automaker.

    ELECTRIC & H2O CARS & MOTORCYCLES Zhong_Tai
China Unviels Electric 4x4 With 250 Mile Range - 2009

For years, engineers in Europe, America and Japan have struggled to achieve the perfect balance: a battery that is small and light enough to fit in a family car, yet capable of storing enough energy to keep it going for a practical range between top-ups. The Reva G-Wiz, Britain’s bestselling electric vehicle, has a range of no more than 48 miles between charges; the Smart ED, on trial in the UK, beats it by only 14 miles; and although the electric Mini claims a range of 150 miles, it is only a two-seater (the huge battery taking up the back seat), and BMW has no plans to put it into production.

New Power, by contrast, claims to have developed an electric four-seater with a range of 250 miles and plans to bring it to the UK “within the next couple of years”. Known as the Zhong Tai (the name translates roughly as “peace and safety for the people”), it has lithium-ion batteries that can be recharged in 6-8 hours from a conventional socket, or in two hours from a high-power recharging point. With a top speed of 75mph and an estimated price tag of between £16,300 and £20,500 in Britain, the Zhong Tai could be both practical and affordable enough to make drivers part with their internal combustion engines for good.

On first impressions the Zhong Tai looked anything but remarkable. The car’s basic bodywork and chassis are based on a 2006 Daihatsu Terios, a compact 4x4, the licence for which was bought and adapted for Chinese production, originally as a petrol car. The electric version looks identical to a conventional Terios from the outside, with the recharging point where the petrol cap should be and only the absence of an exhaust pipe giving the game away.

The interior feels a little dated but that reflects how much standards of comfort have advanced in the past three years. The dashboard display flashed up speed, distance travelled and the percentage charge left in the batteries — 75% when we first stepped into the car.

At New Power’s spartan headquarters, Mao Zhong, the company’s general manager, outlined how his car could “solve the emissions problems” plaguing both China — where the number of cars is predicted to hit 150m by 2020 — and the rest of the world. On paper, it seems astonishing that such a small operation, with a staff of just 30, should have produced China’s first production-ready all-electric car. But the Zhong Tai has been in development for six years, backed by Zotye, a mainstream car maker, of which New Power is a “green” subsidiary. Times Online

The EV has been in the works for 6 years now and the company believes that they are nearing production ready. Here’s how there drive went.

With the intent of pushing the car to see if the claimed 250 mile range was indeed true, the driver set out on his journey. Pushing the vehicle hard, he believes that the vehicle reaches the claimed 0-60 mph time of 12 seconds or less. When accelerating quickly from 18 to 54 mph, everything felt fine until the alarms inside the car went off and the engine shut down. A simple restart was needed and they were on their way. While trying to restart the car, someone had mistakenly touched the battery and received a jolt, but the company took care of that problem and the drive resumed.

Reaching the 250 mile ceiling would not be possible during the brief test drive, but the reviewer kept a keen eye on the charge meter. Assuming the meter was accurate, he started with about 75% percent charge, drove for 120 miles, and was left with 44% charge making it reasonable to assume the vehicle could have traveled 250 miles on a full charge.

The 250 mile claim applies only to stop and go driving. At highway speeds, the vehicle can travel 170 mile on a charge

Electric Range Rover to go into production 10 Jul 2010
Forget the gas-guzzling image of 4x4s - this British adaptation of a Range Rover goes for 200 miles on battery power alone.

What is billed as the world's first pure electric 4x4 has made its debut, before going on sale in the UK before any other country.

Oxford-based Liberty Electric Cars has completed extensive testing on its E-Range, which it claims will fill a significant gap in the family-size and luxury vehicle market.
Liberty says that the Electric E-Range has a top speed of 85mph and accelerates from 0-60mph in about seven seconds, with a range of up to 200 miles.
Another world first is the possibility of wireless charging. Instead of using conventional leads and plugs, the car is parked over an induction plate and charges automatically.
The battery can be charged in one to three hours from a fast charger or using the optional induction system. At 75kw, the LEC battery pack is the largest ever installed in an electric car yet, due to the technology employed, weighs less than many lower capacity packs according to Liberty.

Solar-powered reactors can take carbon dioxide and turn it into carbon monoxide. The same reactors can also be used to turn water into hydrogen and oxygen.

The two can then be reacted together with a catalyst to form hydrocarbon fuels, in a technique known as the Fischer-Tropsch process.

Fuels made in this way are sufficiently similar to those currently used in cars that major redesigns of engines and refuelling stations should not be necessary. If fuels can be made entirely from atmospheric carbon, running a car on that fuel would be carbon neutral.

One such machine, the Counter Rotating Ring Receiver Reactor Recuperator (CR5), created by a team of scientists at Sandia National Laboratories in Albuquerque, New Mexico, captures carbon dioxide from power plant exhaust fumes. In the future, however, they hope to extract it directly from the air.

The system uses a giant parabolic mirror, which concentrates sunlight on to two chambers separated by spinning rings of cerium oxide. As the rings turn, the cerium oxide is heated to 1500C and releases oxygen into one of the chambers. The oxygen is then pumped away.

As the ring spins, the now de-oxidised cerium moves into the other chamber. Carbon dioxide is pumped in, and the deoxidised cerium steals one of the oxygen molecules, creating carbon monoxide and cerium oxide.
Another team, the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, Zurich, uses a similar system, but with calcium oxide, zinc oxide and steam, which can create a stream of hydrogen and carbon monoxide. Their system can already use atmospheric carbon dioxide.

At the moment the two reactors have problems. The New Mexico team's system currently only works for a few seconds at a time, while the Swiss model runs at a mere 10 kilowatts. But both hope to improve reliability and yield.
Creating usable fuel from solar energy is a promising way of keeping the world's energy demands satisfied while minimising carbon emissions, Ken Caldeira of the Carnegie Institution of Washington at Stanford University, California told New Scientist. "This area holds out the promise for technologies that can produce large amounts of carbon-neutral power at affordable prices, which can be used where and when that power is needed," he says.
"It is one of the few technology areas that could truly revolutionise our energy future."

Green machine: Plug-free electric cars' hidden cost

It's bad enough forgetting to recharge your mobile phone overnight – the inconvenience is likely to be far worse if you fail to plug in your electric car. Now an array of technologies are being developed to ensure that absent-minded drivers don't run out of power on the road, but the come with a downside: they risk negating a key environmental benefit of going electric.

One potential method to ensure electric cars remain topped up involves a wireless system that charges your car without any thought or effort on the driver's part.

At the Plug-In 2010 conference in San Jose, California, last week Evatran of Wytheville, Virginia, launched a plug-free car charger. To use the device, drivers will simply pull into their garage or charging station and park over a base unit fitted to the floor, and the system will do the rest, says Rebecca Hough, Evatran's director of marketing.

    Park and charge

Electric vehicles starting to go on sale over the next few years "will have intelligent control systems that allow the vehicle to request charge when it's ready", Hough says. "As long as the vehicle requests charge from our system, our system will automatically begin charging."

The plug-free system is based on induction charging – the technology commonly used to power electric toothbrushes. A coil in the base unit creates an electromagnetic field that interacts with a coil attached to the car, which converts it back into an electric current.

The company recognises that the device will require more power from the grid than plug-in recharging systems. It will be about 90 per cent efficient, says Hough.

This may be a price worth paying for the greater convenience offered by wireless charging, which Hough says should encourage more drivers to buy electric vehicles. "We believe that our system will eliminate a barrier to electric vehicle adoption and increase the adoption of electrified transportation," she says.

Other companies developing inductive charging systems include WiTricity, a spin-out of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, while Nissan last year announced that it was looking into wireless charging for its electric vehicles. Earlier this year researchers at KAIST (the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology) in Daejeon, South Korea, demonstrated their Online Electric Vehicle (Olev), which is powered by an electromagnetic field generated by strips buried in the road.

    ELECTRIC & H2O CARS & MOTORCYCLES Carbattery
Scientists found that 80-85% of the voltage of a lead-acid battery is due to relativistic effects.
(PhysOrg.com) -- French physicist Gaston Plante invented the lead-acid battery in 1859 – almost 50 years before Einstein developed his theories of relativity. Now scientists have found that the lead-acid battery, which is commonly used in cars, strongly relies on the effects of relativity. Specifically, the scientists calculated that 1.7-1.8 volts of the lead-acid battery’s 2.1 volts (or about 80-85%) arise from relativistic effects.

The physicists and chemists who performed the study – Rajeev Ahuja, Andreas Blomqvist, and Peter Larsson from Uppsala University in Uppsala, Sweden, and Pekka Pyykkö and Patryk Zaleski-Ejgierd from the University of Helsinki – have published their results in a recent issue of Physical Review Letters.

"This is a new, well-documented case of 'everyday relativity,'" Pyykkö told PhysOrg.com. As the scientists noted in their study, the finding essentially means that "cars start due to relativity."

The lead-acid battery is the oldest type of rechargeable battery, with the main component being lead. With an atomic number of 82, lead is a heavy element. In general, relativistic effects emerge when fast electrons move near a heavy nucleus, such as that of lead. These relativistic effects include anything that depends on the speed of light (or from a mathematical perspective, anything that involves the Dirac or Schrödinger equations).

The lead-acid battery contains a positive electrode made of lead dioxide, a negative electrode made of metallic lead, and an electrolyte made of sulfuric acid. Through their calculations, the scientists found that the battery’s relativistic effects arise mainly from the lead dioxide in the positive electrode, and partly from the lead sulfate created during chemical reactions.

The discovery of relativistic effects in the lead-acid battery also sheds some light on why no corresponding “tin battery” exists. In the periodic table, tin is located directly above lead and has an atomic number of 50, making it lighter than lead. According to the scientists’ calculations, a tin battery would basically be a lead battery with very minimal relativistic effects. Although tin and lead have similar nonrelativistic energy values, tin’s small relativistic effects prohibit it from being used in an efficient battery.

Tin-sulfur-lithium-ion battery as alternative to conventional lithium batteries
    March 11, 2010

(PhysOrg.com) -- A common problem with notebook computers is that the battery delivers power for far too short a time, which only gets shorter as it gets older. If you don’t take great care with your rechargeable battery at all times, its life drains away quite fast. Improved batteries that deliver significantly more energy, last longer, and are safer are thus the subject of current research. Bruno Scrosati and Jusef Hassoun at the University of Rome have now developed a highly promising approach to a new variety of lithium-ion battery, which, as the researchers report in the journal Angewandte Chemie, may fulfill these criteria.

Electric cars get a boost in Obama budget plan
Buyers of plug-in cars like the Nissan Leaf qualify for a $7,500 tax credit.
    http://money.cnn.com/2011/02/14/autos/electric_car_rebate/index.htm
NEW YORK (CNNMoney) -- In its effort to put 1 million electric cars on the road by 2015, the Obama administration's proposed budget supports a plan to give $7,500 directly to electric car buyers rather than make them wait for a tax credit.

Under the "Charging America Forward" act, put forward by Democratic Sen. Debbie Stabenow of Michigan, auto dealers and finance companies would give customers a simple on-the-spot discount, then get reimbursed later by the government.

A tax credit for plug-in vehicles already exists but, as it stands now, car buyers have to wait until tax time to get that money back. Consumers buying qualifying plug-in cars are eligible for a tax credit of between $2,500 and $7,500 depending on the size of the vehicle's battery pack.

Under Stabenow's bill, business would also get tax credits of $15,000 to $100,000 for buying plug-in trucks or other electric commercial vehicles.

    ELECTRIC & H2O CARS & MOTORCYCLES Large
A group of young MIT students have developed a new type of battery that runs on a rechargeable liquid fuel. The inventors call the fuel "Cambridge Crude," and if the technology makes it to market, refueling an electric car could be as easy as pulling up to a pump. The batteries are powered by semi-solid flow cells, an innovative architecture in which charged particles floating in a liquid electrolyte between two containers--one for storing energy and one for discharging energy. Separating out the functions and other innovations make the new battteries ten times as efficient as similar existing technology and cheaper to manufacture than lithium-ion batteries. In short, the new batteries make irrelevant the size and cost limitations that have kept this kind of technology out of electric cars to date. The MIT News Office reports:

The new design should make it possible to reduce the size and the cost of a complete battery system, including all of its structural support and connectors, to about half the current levels. That dramatic reduction could be the key to making electric vehicles fully competitive with conventional gas- or diesel-powered vehicles, the researchers say.

Another potential advantage is that in vehicle applications, such a system would permit the possibility of simply “refueling” the battery by pumping out the liquid slurry and pumping in a fresh, fully charged replacement, or by swapping out the tanks like tires at a pit stop, while still preserving the option of simply recharging the existing material when time permits.

According to supervising professor Yet-Ming Chiang, the group originally set out "to reinvent the rechargeable battery" and expects to have a fully operational prototype that could be manufactured for electric cars in the next 18 months.

I'm trying to transition into a less controversial and less speculative positive-reinforcement mode -- so this thread is something I'd like to positively reinforce! I think I'd like to live in a solar-powered decommissioned missile silo -- and drive an elecric car like the Nissan "Leaf". http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leaf_(car) If we can survive the next couple of decades -- I think we'll do OK as a race.
