    Get your hands off me, TSA!
    These airport so-called security measures amount to state-sponsored sexual harassment

    Listen to this: "My freely chosen bedmates and doctors are the only ones allowed to see my naked body or touch my genitalia." For a sane person in a sane country that's the ultimate in "no XXXX, Sherlock" statement. But not where I live.

    Not the United States of America. Not since 11 September 2001, when the government reacted to an attack on its citizens by lashing out against the very citizenry it claims to protect. No bureaucracy better embodies that reactionary principle than the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), whose contempt for American citizens has grown so great that they now require we submit to government agents either photographing our, to them, visibly naked bodies or groping us in molestation-style patdowns if we ever want to fly again.

    I'm sick of the craven cliches TSA apologists have cited these past nine years:

    "They protect us from terrorists."

    No, they impose pointlessly superstitious security theatre, trample Americans' constitutional rights and make foreigners feel sorry for us. TSA protected nobody with its infamous "bathroom bans" after last year's Christmas terror attempt; rules like "keep your lap empty and your hands visible at all times" only demonstrated the agency's willingness to treat ordinary citizens like serial killers in supermax prison.

    "You gave up your rights when you bought an airline ticket."

    I never gave up any rights. The government stole them while cowards egged them on.

    "TSA agents are just doing their jobs."

    A lousy apologia and historically ignorant to boot; the civilised world established at Nuremberg that "just following orders" cuts no ice. And my fellow Americans are realising "it'll stop terrorists" cuts none either, at least not to justify low-grade sexual harassment as standard behaviour for government agents.

    It's not hyperbole to call the enhanced patdown a low-grade sexual assault; if you don't believe me, go find some woman's boobs or man's balls, start cupping and squeezing them according to new TSA standards, and count how many offences you're charged with. Last month, an agent openly admitted that the purpose of the aggressive new patdowns was to intimidate people into choosing the nude scanners instead.

    And Homeland Security director Janet Napolitano justified this Hobson's choice – and abandoned all pretence of being a "servant" accountable to the public – in an insufferably arrogant column she wrote for USA Today, burying outright lies beneath eye-glazing bureaucratic prose. "The imaging technology that we use cannot store, export, print or transmit images," she claimed – though this was proven untrue almost as soon as the scanners were put in use; last August, US marshals admitted to storing 35,000 images collected from one single courthouse – some of which have now been obtained by the website Gizmodo under a freedom of information request.

    "Rigorous privacy safeguards are also in place to protect the travelling public."

    You can't claim privacy points when ordering people to let you either see them naked or feel them up.

    "The vast majority of travellers say they prefer this technology to alternative screening measures."

    No, the vast majority realise Napolitano's gone too far this time, and the backlash has finally begun. November 24 – the eve of the Thanksgiving holiday, and one of the busiest flying days of the year – is National Opt-Out Day, whose organiser Brian Sodegren calls for all Americans to refuse the nude scanners and insist the patdown be done in full public view, so everyone can see how law-abiding travelers are treated in the Land of the Free. Sodegren points out the obvious:

    "You should never have to explain to your children, 'Remember that no stranger can touch or see your private area, unless it's a government employee, then it's OK.'"

    Similarly, the group We Won't Fly calls for my fellow Americans to "Jam TSA checkpoints by opting out until they remove the porno-scanners!"

    I've flown only three times since the inception of the TSA, and only when I couldn't avoid it: two business trips and a funeral I couldn't drive to. But I won't fly on vacation; and last winter, when I thought I'd need to cross the Atlantic, I made reservations in Canada – a 450-mile drive to the airport, but worth it to avoid the TSA.

    I'm not alone. Industry leaders reportedly met with Napolitano to express their concerns; as one executive with the US Travel Association fretted, "We have received hundreds of e-mails and phone calls from travelers vowing to stop flying."

    Airline executives are rich. Maybe they've got the clout to stop TSA bullying. Napolitano clearly doesn't care if ordinary Americans quit flying altogether; at Ronald Reagan National Airport, she openly offered "travel by other means" as the only option for people who won't submit to the new TSA probes.

    That's what we've been reduced to in America: security measures lifted from bad porn plots, and hoping this latest outrage inconveniences enough rich guys with political connections to get it repealed.

    Underwear invention protects privacy at airport
    It's a special kind of underwear _ with a strategically placed fig leaf design _ and a Colorado man says it'll get you through the airport screeners with your dignity intact.

    However it won't protect you from DNA damage resulting from X-Ray Scanners!

    Backscatter X-ray uses ionizing radiation, a known cumulative health hazard, to produce images of passengers’ bodies. Children, pregnant women, the elderly, and those with defective DNA repair mechanisms are considered to be especially susceptible to the type of DNA damage caused by ionizing radiation. Also at high risk are those who have had, or currently have, skin cancer. Ionizing radiation’s effects are cumulative, meaning that each time you are exposed you are adding to your risk of developing cancer. Since the dosage of radiation from the backscatter X-ray machines is absorbed almost entirely by the skin and tissue directly under the skin, averaging the dose over the whole body gives an inaccurate picture of the actual harm. In their letter of concern, the UCSF faculty members noted that “the dose to the skin could be dangerously high”. The eyes are particularly susceptible to the effects of radiation, and as one study found allowing the eyes to be exposed to radiation can lead to an increased incidence of cataracts.

    Dr Michael Love, who runs an X-ray lab at the department of biophysics and biophysical chemistry at the Johns Hopkins school of medicine. Love told AFP two days ago that “statistically someone is going to get skin cancer from these X-rays”.

    So, unless you count skin cancer as safe, Napolitano is lying to you.

    Scanners may cause DNA damage/How Terahertz Waves Tear Apart DNA
    http://www.technologyreview.com/blog/arxiv/24331/

    A new model of the way the THz waves interact with DNA explains how the damage is done and why evidence has been so hard to gather

    Great things are expected of terahertz waves, the radiation that fills the slot in the electromagnetic spectrum between microwaves and the infrared. Terahertz waves pass through non-conducting materials such as clothes , paper, wood and brick and so cameras sensitive to them can peer inside envelopes, into living rooms and "frisk" people at distance.
    The way terahertz waves are absorbed and emitted can also be used to determine the chemical composition of a material. And even though they don't travel far inside the body, there is great hope that the waves can be used to spot tumours near the surface of the skin.

    With all that potential, it's no wonder that research on terahertz waves has exploded in the last ten years or so. But what of the health effects of terahertz waves? At first glance, it's easy to dismiss any notion that they can be damaging. Terahertz photons are not energetic enough to break chemical bonds or ionise atoms or molecules, the chief reasons why higher energy photons such as x-rays and UV rays are so bad for us. But could there be another mechanism at work?

    The evidence that terahertz radiation damages biological systems is mixed. "Some studies reported significant genetic damage while others, although similar, showed none," say Boian Alexandrov at the Center for Nonlinear Studies at Los Alamos National Laboratory in New Mexico and a few buddies. Now these guys think they know why. Alexandrov and Co have created a model to investigate how THz fields interact with double-stranded DNA and what they've found is remarkable. They say that although the forces generated are tiny, resonant effects allow THz waves to unzip double-stranded DNA, creating bubbles in the double strand that could significantly interfere with processes such as gene expression and DNA replication. That's a jaw dropping conclusion.

    And it also explains why the evidence has been so hard to garner. Ordinary resonant effects are not powerful enough to do do this kind of damage but nonlinear resonances can. These nonlinear instabilities are much less likely to form which explains why the character of THz genotoxic
effects are probabilistic rather than deterministic, say the team.
    This should set the cat among the pigeons. Of course, terahertz waves are a natural part of environment, just like visible and infrared light. But a new generation of cameras are set to appear that not only record terahertz waves but also bombard us with them. And if our exposure is set to increase, the question that urgently needs answering is what level of terahertz exposure is safe.

    I think this is what they are aiming at . We all know protection against terrorism is'nt the point.
    Non even taking into consideration the damage the scanners themselves can do , the severe stress of having to go through these things and the way it's handle is enough to create enough fear, humiliation or anger in people to considerably lower their immune system itself .
    I bet we will see sickness soaring unless people start to stand on their feet and say NO to this non sense.

    Google's map of Airports with Scanners

    These are the airports, according to the TSA, who have the body scanning technology.

    Created on Nov 18 Map

    http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?hl=en&ie=UTF8&t=h&msa=0&msid=103098884336151703754.0004955d35bb0404e5484&ll=31.653381,-90.351562&spn=51.216738,74.707031&z=3&source=embed

    Airports expecting body scanners soon are Chicago Midway International Airport, Houston William P. Hobby Airport, and Saipan International Airport. And there are a few places that are not airports using the technology; including the Colorado Springs (Colorado) and Cook County (illinois) Court Houses, and a few correctional facilities.

    I do not believe this and think the poll was skewed.

    Poll: Nearly two-thirds of Americans support full-body scanners at airports

    Failed attack highlights airport screening procedures
    The lapses in aviation security that allowed Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab to board a flight for Detroit on Christmas Day, allegedly carrying explosives hidden from most security procedures, have led to increased attention to the implementation of body-screening measures to thwart such attempts.

    Nearly two-thirds of Americans support the new full-body security-screening machines at the country's airports, as most say they put higher priority on combating terrorism than protecting personal privacy, according to a new Washington Post-ABC News poll.

    But half of all those polled say enhanced pat-down searches go too far.

    The uproar over the new generation of security technology, and the frisking of those who refuse it, continued Monday with Transportation Security Administration head John S. Pistole saying: "In the short term there will not be any changes in the new procedures."

    Pistole said that he will continue to explore whether there are "less invasive" ways to accomplish the same security goals.

    According to this article :

    http://www.csmonitor.com/USA/2009/1230/Number-of-full-body-scanners-at-US-airports-to-triple-in-2010

    In end of 2009 there were 40 full body scanners operating in about 19 US airports, although the majority were used for secondary searches, following an amendment approved by the US House of Representatives during summer saying the machines could not be used for primary screenings.

    I read that in 2010 there are now 300 full body scanners in 60 airports and that it's planned to raise the number to 500 by the end of the year.
    ( I have lost the link to this sorry )

    That's about 10 times more than in 2009 Shocked

    @Carol.

    Logic would say the poll was skewed.

    However when I discuss this issue with people, it is amazing how many are so brainwashed, that they think it is a good thing.

    The aspartame seems to be working on many!!

    Now that the veil has been lifted for many of us, it is amazing that everyone can't see the truth.

    If someone was asked if they are willing to risk their DNA being damaged, being exposed to increased cancer risks and cateracts by going through the x-ray scanner that is indicated as a danger to pregnant women, the elderly and children - do they think their personal health risks outweigh the need to be x-ray scanned in order to board a plane where no screening has EVER been effective in the past?

    Ask this question and then ask where they stand with this type of poll.

    Safety my as.s.

    Anyone who understands the medical ramifications would know that scanning also impairs the immune system.

    Have you noticed the trend lately?

    We know of the dangers in the Gulf of Mexico, yet people still go to the beach.

    We know the ill effects of aspartame, yet the masses still drink their diet sodas.

    We know the dangers of scanners, yet the majority line up and get nuked!

    Amazing.

    What is wrong with people! Guaranteed that it will be these same people who will be stampeding to get saved by the ET ships that will wisk them away, when they fear the end is near. Sorry don't plan on going with them. Wonder if they will have scanners before they can board the motherships?

    The river of DENIAL runs deep and wide. If they watch TV they are conditioned by mind numbing television programing. Most people are so stressed out it is all they can do just to keep all of the plates up in the air and spinning.

    Many of the activists are dead. My generation was the one the protested the Vietnam war and had huge sit-ins all over the US. Dissent was our middle name. Now the newer generations are bought and sold by the company store and have forgotten what it means to be free and what it cost many who ended up in the military. Too many lives revolved around Rosanne and the Simpsons TV shows which taught them disrespect of family and each other. Of course during our youth we had a little push from consciousness raising drugs... the kids now who do drugs are zoned out on Weed or ice. I bet a significant number suffer from brain damage from parents who did drugs and those who do drugs now. Wasn't there a recent study were 1 in 5 were mentally ill. One has to ask, "How did that happen?"

    Quote:

    What concerns me is how rationally justified anger at a Federal government has now been classified as a disease.

    As reported on 15 November, 2010 at: www.networkworld.com

    "People Who Resist Authority, Stand Up for Privacy, Could Be Classified As Mentally Ill"

    "According to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM), which is published by the American Psychiatric Association, nonconformity and freethinking is a mental illness labeled "oppositional defiant disorder" or ODD. If psychiatrists follow the Fourth Edition of DSM diagnosis guidelines, people who stand up for privacy and freedom might be labeled as mentally ill.

    U.S.G.W.O. reports that it has confirmed "basically that anyone who disobeys authority or even questions authority is now considered mentally ill and can be thrown in a prison-like mental institution under tax payers dollars." I haven't read the entire book, but U.S.G.W.O. states that according to the psychiatric manual the following people would be diagnosed as having ODD:

    * Freethinkers
    * Constitutionalists
    * Oath Keepers
    * Nonconformists
    * Peaceful Activists
    * Peaceful Resistors
    * Those who partake in Civil Disobedience
    * Those that question Authority
    * Highly creative artists"

    Hmm, I can check off 8 out of 9 for this. Does it mean I get a free accomendations, free meals and can paint?

    This is fricking insane because I'm also a state certified licensed psychotherapist! Oops, my ODD must be showing. Crazy Happy

    The whole thing is intentially trying to stir the proverbial pot. Even Glenn Beck agrees with this assessment.

    Some do not like GB, but has he jumped ship as he sees the dark ship is sinking? Wouldn't be the first. Geraldo seems to have also.

    Police State USA: TSA Gestapo Empire

    http://globalresearch.ca/index.php?context=va&aid=22047

    'It doesn’t take a bureaucrat long to create an empire. John Pistole, the FBI agent who took over the Transportation Security Administration on July 1 told USA Today 16 days later that protecting trains and subways from terrorist attacks will be as high a priority for him as air travel.

    It is difficult to imagine New Yorkers being porno-screened and sexually groped on crowed subway platforms or showing up an hour or two in advance for clearance for a 15 minute subway ride, but once bureaucrats get the bit in their teeth they take absurdity to its logical conclusion. Buses will be next, although it is even more difficult to imagine open air bus stops turned into security zones with screeners and gropers inspecting passengers before they board.

    Will taxi passengers be next? In those Muslim lands whose citizens the US government has been slaughtering for years, favorite weapons for retaliating against the Americans are car and truck bombs. How long before Pistole announces that the TSA Gestapo is setting up roadblocks on city streets, highways and interstates to check cars for bombs? That 15 minute trip to the grocery store then becomes an all day affair.'

    TSA Turns Off Naked Body Scanners to Avoid Opt-out Day Protests Thursday, 25 November 2010 08:02

    'Anticipating a nationwide grassroots surge of protests against naked body scanners and aggressive pat-downs, the TSA simply turned off its naked body scanners on Wednesday and let air travelers walk right through security checkpoints without being X-rayed or molested.

    All across the country, air travelers are reporting that the TSA simply deactivated the naked body scanners and let people go right through without a scan. "Backscatter scanners are off. No scan. No patdown." reported a traveler from the Seattle airport. "Backscatter machines aren't being used at LAX," reported another traveler. "They're all roped off."

    Much the same story is being reported all across the country.'

    They never mentioned this on MSM! lol
