My comment: This is the first step required by a president to Constitutionally initiate military actions. It is limited in time and expires in 60 days. Here is a quote:
"It stipulates the president must notify Congress within 48 hours of military action and prohibits armed forces from remaining for more than 60 days."
If the president requires more time for war authority, Congress must pass a declaration of war - which was done during the first Gulf war by George Bush, Sr., and also in 1941 by Roosevelt.
It is very possible that once the conflict breaks out between the Palestinian defenders and Israel and the US - US forces will be targeted. Once US forces are under fire, then the US military will retaliate by using the full force of weapons available to them.
Once the US is actively involved with ships, tanks and planes, the surrounding Arab nations will be highly motivated to go to direct war with Israel and the US in the Middle East, along with seeing the possible activation of over 100,000 sleeper cells in the US and a matching number of terrorists in Europe.
While that is happening, hundreds of thousands of Muslims will flood into Israel to help defend the Palestinians in Gaza and also in the West Bank. All of this could ignite within a few days from now. Happy Halloween.
