New Organic Battery Developed For Use in Power Plants Creates Cheap, Clean and Renewable Energy

Every few weeks now there is a new discovery that gives us a glimpse into what the future of energy could look like if the governments and cartels that control the energy industry would just get out of the way and let human beings create.

Vehicles that run on anything from electricity to biofuels to water are being researched and developed by people all over the world who want to make a positive change.

One of the most recent game changing inventions in the world of renewable energy is an organic battery being developed at the University of Southern California.

Sri Narayan, professor of chemistry at the USC Dornsife College of Letters, Arts and Sciences recently wrote a report which highlights his department’s research on the new organic battery. In his report , he said that, “the batteries last for about 5,000 recharge cycles, giving them an estimated 15-year lifespan. Lithium ion batteries degrade after around 1,000 cycles, and cost 10 times more to manufacture.”

Surya Prakash, a professor of chemistry and director of the USC Loker Hydrocarbon Research Institute was also involved in the project, and he believes that this could potentially change the world and the way that humans interact with energy.

“Such organic flow batteries will be game-changers for grid electrical energy storage in terms of simplicity, cost, reliability and sustainability,” said Prakash.

The battery is called the Organic Redox Flow Battery (ORBAT), and in addition to working as its own stand-alone energy device, researchers have suggested that it can also be used in conjunction with solar and wind power, making both means of harnessing energy far more efficient than they currently are.

One of the major obstacles preventing solar and wind energy from mass distribution, is their inability to store energy for long periods of time. The ORBAT provides a possible solution for this problem. But how does it work? A press release that was recently put out by the researchers, explains the science behind the invention.

    According to the Press Release:

We introduce a novel Organic Redox Flow Battery (ORBAT), for meeting the demanding requirements of cost, eco-friendliness, and durability for large-scale energy storage. ORBAT employs two different water-soluble organic redox couples on the positive and negative side of a flow battery.
