Emails expose BP's attempts to control research into impact of Gulf oil spill

    http://www.guardian.co.uk/environment/2011/apr/15/bp-control-science-gulf-oil-spill

Documents obtained under the Freedom of Information Act show BP officials discussing how to influence the work of scientists

    • Read the BP internal meeting notes

Deepwater Horizon BP oil spill: A clean-up worker picks up blobs of oil in absorbent snare

BP officials tried to take control of a $500m fund pledged by the oil company for independent research into the consequences of the Gulf of Mexico oil disaster, it has emerged.

Documents obtained under the Freedom of Information Act show BP officials openly discussing how to influence the work of scientists supported by the fund, which was created by the oil company in May last year.

Russell Putt, a BP environmental expert, wrote in an email to colleagues on 24 June 2010: "Can we 'direct' GRI [Gulf of Mexico Research Initiative] funding to a specific study (as we now see the governor's offices trying to do)? What influence do we have over the vessels/equipment driving the studies vs the questions?".

The email was obtained by Greenpeace and shared with the Guardian.

The documents are expected to reinforce fears voiced by scientists that BP has too much leverage over studies into the impact of last year's oil disaster.

Those concerns go far beyond academic interest into the impact of the spill. BP faces billions in fines and penalties, and possible criminal charges arising from the disaster. Its total liability will depend in part on a final account produced by scientists on how much oil entered the gulf from its blown-out well, and the damage done to marine life and coastal areas in Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama. The oil company disputes the government estimate that 4.1m barrels of oil entered the gulf.

There is no evidence in the emails that BP officials were successful in directing research. The fund has since established procedures to protect its independence.

Other documents obtained by Greenpeace suggest that the politics of oil spill science was not confined to BP. The White House clashed with officials from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) last summer when drafting the administration's account of what has happened to the spilled oil.

Short Life Expectancy for BP Whistleblowers?

    By Pat Shannan

The investigation, if it can properly be so called, of the unsolved murder of the former high ranking Pentagon official and presidential advisor John P. Wheeler III, who was also an expert on chemical and biological weapons, may be taking a turn in the direction of the Gulf of Mexico oil spill.

Wheeler, 67, a West Point grad, was beaten and thrown into a garbage dumpster. His body was discovered in a Wilmington, Del. landfill last New Year’s weekend. Both police detectives and news commentators described it as “an apparent hit,” but little else was ever learned, and no suspects have surfaced.

There was great speculation by many at the time that Wheeler had begun to blow the whistle on the mysterious bird and fish deaths in Arkansas and Texas, and was about to expose the facts tying this to the chemtrails seen in our skies over the past decade.

Now the speculation may be reverting to British Petroleum and the gulf spill because a number of other BP whistle blowing scientists, before and since the Wheeler murder, have also died mysteriously, been jailed on questionable charges or disappeared without a trace.

Matthew Simmons, 67, a former energy advisor to President George W. Bush and admired among survivalist groups for his dire warnings on the upcoming commodity and fuel shortages about to hit this nation, died in his hot tub in Maine last August. Simmons had been gaining popularity as a whistle blower for blaming BP for its covered-up responsibility in defacing and vandalizing the Gulf of Mexico while hiding the truth from the general public.

Only four days later, Ted Stevens, the 87-year-old defrocked senator from Alaska, said to have received communications regarding BP’s faulty blowout preventer, perished in a plane crash. British Petroleum had donated $1 million to the University of Alaska to catalog the papers from Stevens’s long political career.

Roger Grooters began a cross country bike ride in Oceanside, Calif. on Sept. 10 to draw attention to the Gulf Coast oil disaster. On Oct. 6, in front of the horrified eyes of his wife, who was trailing in a support vehicle, Grooters was struck by a truck and killed instantly in Panama City, Fla.

Only a month later, Dr. Geoffrey Gardner of Lakeland, Fla. disappeared. He was investigating the unexplained bird deaths near Sarasota that are suspected to have been caused by the BP oil disaster. No one has heard from or spoken with him since.

On November 19, 2010, Michael Edward alerted everyone about how genetically engineered bacteria injected into the Gulf to consume the oil would cause horizontal gene transfers and bring about new strains of Cholera, as had already happened in Haiti. Now, we have a new strain of Cholera infecting people from Gulf oysters.

Gulf oil cover-up exposed at Cannes Film Festival

    May 18th, 2011

The world was exposed to some startling truths at the Cannes International Film Festival yesterday, May 17, when the new documentary film THE BIG FIX was featured as a Special Screening. This profound documentary presents a grass roots view of the Gulf of Mexico oil disaster through the eyes of Louisiana families suffering the immense effects of unprecedented health problems, destroyed livlihoods, and environmental devastation.

Produced by Joshua Tickel and his wife Rebecca Harrell, the film boldly exposes the political and corporate cover-up of the factual impact both felt and seen along the Gulf Coast. Joshua is no stranger to such revealing documentaries as he was also the producer of another eye-opening film FUEL, winner of the Sundance Film Festival Best Documentary Audience Award in 2008 along with Best Screenwriting and Most Compelling Documentary at the 2008 Sedona Film Festival.

After viewing THE BIG FIX, film critic Simon Gallagher said, "More importantly it will inspire people to return to the facts of the disaster, and stop it from becoming yesterday’s news when it still has devastating everyday effects on the people and eco-systems of the surrounding areas" and then added "the filmmakers have done well to intersperse cold hard fact with intellectual commentary and also the accounts and opinions of real-life Louisiana residents."

"Cleanup" is an Assault on Grand Isle

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8gHf8jcNbks&feature=player_embedded

Earlier this year, Al Walker, a veteran Louisiana charter boat captain, took a run out to Grand Isle to see how the cleanup was progressing. What he witnessed turned his stomach – and if you have even the slightest concern for the environment, it will turn yours, too. This video gives you a front-row seat to a bare-knuckle industry assault on one of Louisiana’s most treasured barrier islands.

Although these “sweep it under the rug” operations are running amok from Horn Island to Bay Jimmy to Grand Isle, you won’t see footage like this on CNN.

The scene opens with a long-armed crane towering over the shoreline moving sand, earth, and of course, oil. There’s boom in the water. The roughshod operation is stirring up oil all the way out to Capt. Walker’s boat, sitting about 30 yards offshore. There is weathered oil visible on the surface and several feet below, as the underwater footage reveals.

The video captures what appears to be an operation designed to “cleanup” Grand Isle by removing oiled sand from the shoreline and dumping it – by the truckload – into the water just offshore. The tide eventually carries the oily sediment and tar balls right by Capt. Walker’s boat. The oiled sand and sediment that sink to the bottom will eventually be stirred up by rough surf, and the oil will again come ashore.

Capt. Walker: “There are technologies out there to help prevent this from happening, and our Coast Guard and NOAA refuse to do anything about it.” Well, there’s no doubt about that. The response to this disaster failed miserably in containing and recovering the oil, and implementing some of the newer spill-response technologies could have prevented a lot of oil from washing ashore. Instead, we now see an industry carving up an island and dumping it into the sea (as a method of cleanup).

It is likely that what they’ve been doing on Grand Isle and other barrier islands is illegal – in violation of the Clean Water Act.
As the camera pans left to show a young boy holding a fishing rod and a flock of birds flying overhead, Capt. Walker warns: “That’s what’s in jeopardy, our wildlife – and our children.”

He’s right. If we don’t fully restore the Gulf now, we will leave a legacy of pollution to our children and future generations. The stakes couldn’t be higher, and it’s up to all of us to hold BP accountable for the monstrous damage it has done.
Check out another one of Capt. Walker’s videos, showing the mess BP left in Grand Isle’s marshes: http://www.stuarthsmith.com/video-oil-waste-and-debris-hidden-all-over-grand-isle

Gulf of Mexico Legal Biological Military Operation

    What do 50 USC 1512 & 1520a, 111 STATUTE 915, Public Law 105-85 and 483 U.S. 669 have in common?

They are the US Codes, US Statute, US Congressional, and US Supreme Court means by which the US Department of Defense was given the legal Federal authority to conduct the synthetically bioengineered experiment in the Gulf of Mexico to eliminate the BP oil and gas.

This has resulted in the legal deaths and diseases of human, animal and plant life; the deterioration of food and water; and the damaging alteration of the environment. While this was a legal Federal Government act, such insanity is a far cry from being moral or lawful. Once again, the civilian population in America has been the object of a biological experiment.

Federal Judge Rules BP not Responsible For Damages Created by Oil Spill,Tax Payers Are
UPDATE Judge A Major Bond Holder in BP

NEW ORLEANS (CN) – Ruling in favor of Transocean and BP, a federal judge on Thursday dismissed third-party environmental claims in a giant pleading bundle in the Deepwater Horizon oil spill litigation, saying the fact that the oil flow has stopped makes those lawsuits irrelevant.
“The injunction at this stage would be useless, as not only is there no ongoing release from the well, but there is also no viable offshore facility from which any release could possibly occur,” U.S. District Judge Carl Barbier wrote. “The Macondo well is dead, and what remains of the Deepwater Horizon vessel is on the ocean floor, where it capsized and sank in 5,000 feet of water.

    Thanks Tom .
I believe this is another confirmation that the well was never killed despite what they told us .
This has been well documented by the work of L . Kim last year .
BP put a patch on anotherwise gushing wound . WIth all the weight pushing down on the ocean
floor from the melting arctic , as Scott from Believers underground as been warning us for years,
there is no wonder these oil rigs are a liability.

BP Was Drilling In A Mine Field! Gulf of Mexico Is Major Dumping Ground For Unexploded Bombs.

Gulf Oil Platform Explosion and Spill - Page 41 NOAA_a1ea2

...the Gulf of Mexico is the primary disposal site for unexploded military munitions - over 30 million pounds of bombs, projectiles and chemical ordnance.

And because records are spotty and incomplete, we don't know exactly where these dumps are.

    read on : Arrow http://crooksandliars.com/susie-madrak/bp-was-drilling-mine-field-gulf-mexic

    Sea Disposal of Military Munitions

Sea disposal of excess, obsolete, unserviceable, and captured enemy munitions was an internationally accepted practice throughout the 1970s, until prohibited by Congress with the Marine Protection, Research, and Sanctuaries Act of 1972. Although these munitions may have been fuzed, they would not have experienced the firing sequence required to arm them. Prior to the 1970s, destruction alternatives were generally limited to burning, burial on-land, or disposal at sea.
The U.S. Armed Forces established specific procedures for munitions disposal beginning in 1917. These procedures, which defined depths and locations of disposal sites, became more stringent over time in an effort to reduce the possibility of recovery and accidental contact by the public. In 1944, the War Department required that CWM be disposed in water at least 300 feet deep and 10 miles from shore and established specific criteria for conventional munitions disposal. By December 1945, the Department increased the disposal depth requirement to 6,000 feet for CWM and 3,000 feet for explosives and ammunition. The Department also required disposal locations to be published in a notice to mariners and on nautical charts.

Shakes head in abject horror and at insanity of those who do these dangerous stupid things. Mad

BP Hires Fleet of 40 Shrimp Boats to Lay Boom Around Deepwater Horizon Site.

    Macondo Well site
No, this isn’t a post from last year. Oil from the Macondo Well site is fouling the Gulf anew – and BP is scrambling to contain both the crude and the PR nightmare that waits in the wings. Reliable sources tell us that BP has hired 40 boats from Venice to Grand Isle to lay boom around the Deepwater Horizon site – located just 50 miles off the Louisiana coast. The fleet rushed to the scene late last week and worked through the weekend to contain what was becoming a massive slick at the site of the Macondo wellhead, which was officially “killed” back in September 2010.

The truly frightening part of this development, as reported in a previous post (see below), is the oil may be coming from cracks and fissures in the seafloor caused by the work BP did during its failed attempts to cap the runaway Macondo Well – and that type of leakage can’t be stopped, ever.
Catch up on how this could possibly be happening – again – by reading or re-reading my July 25 post below. Stay tuned as we will be all over this story as it continues to develop.

Is BP’s Macondo Well Site Still Leaking? Fresh Oil on the Gulf Raises Concerns and Haunting Memories
Fresh oil is surfacing all over the northern quadrant of the Gulf of Mexico. Reports of slicks that meander for miles and huge expanses of oil sheen that look like phantom islands are becoming common, again. Fresh oil, only slightly weathered, is washing ashore in areas hit hardest by last year’s massive spill, like Breton Island, Ship Island, the Chandeleurs and northern Barataria Bay.

Gulf Oil Platform Explosion and Spill - Page 41 Empty Re: Gulf Oil Platform Explosion and Spill

BP'S Gusher May Be Gushing Again. If So, Can't Be Stopped
    http://www.indyinasia.com/2011/08/bp’s-gusher-may-be-gushing-again-if-so-can’t-be-stopped/

At the time BP finally capped the Macondo Well in the Gulf of Mexico, there were concerns that the process had damaged the seafloor. That fear is now materializing. BP’s Gulf Gusher may be spewing again—and if so, there is no way to stop it. It will continue until seafloor pressure and oil pressure have been equalized, which may take decades.

BP is aware. They’ve hired 40 fishing boats to string boom around the Deepwater Horizon site.

BP, of course, denies it. They claim to have sent several remote-controlled mini submersibles and concluded that the leak could not have come from their well. However, a United State Coast Guard undersea inspection at the site of the Macondo Well found that it was, indeed, leaking. They say that they have video footage of it. BP says it wasn’t oil—it was silt.

There is no question that the oil seepages, gas columns, fissures and blowout craters in the seafloor around the Macondo wellhead… have been the direct result of indiscriminate drilling, grouting, injection of dispersant and other undisclosed recover activities. As the rogue well had not been successfully cemented and plugged at the base of the well by the relief wells, unknown quantities of hydrocarbons are still leaking out from the reservoir at high pressure and are seeping through multiple fault lines to the seabed. It is not possible to cap this oil leakage.

A couple of days ago, Scientific American reported a 35 kilometer long oil plume 1,100 meters below the surface, flowing at 6.5 kilometers per day from the Macondo Well. They report that physicist Richard Camilli stated, without equivocation:

It was created by the Deepwater Horizon Macondo well.

22 August 2011 Update: Flyover of BP’s Macondo Well Show Oil

The Stuart Smith Blog now reports that a flyover of BP’s Macondo Well clearly shows oil above the well. Samples will be collected to verify the source of oil.

Notice that the US Federal Government is doing nothing. Remember Obama and his family doing the dog and pony show of eating Gulf seafood to give us the impression that it was safe? The truth is that the food they ate came from a bay that hadn’t yet been hit by oil. How much Gulf of Mexico seafood do you suppose they’re eating now?
