Desert Island Tunes Empty Desert Island Tunes

Post  Floyd Fri Jan 04, 2013 12:10 pm

In the Uk there is a radio show called Desert Island Discs where famous people get interviewed and have to compile a list of songs they would have with them if stranded on a island and why.

I haven't quite sorted mine yet but what would you have as your top 5 plus a bonus emergency track. Its tougher than it sounds

Youtube videos would be nice to go along with them.

Do you have the list? And if so - post it?

I guess I would like a well tuned piano on my desert island. Who knows if we would have electricity.

Well we could use the solar panels and wind turbine generators if you need electricity. But a live group of musicians tops electricity anyday of the week.

Im sure this list would vary from island to island but I could live with this one

    1. Comfortably Numb - Pink Floyd Monumental rock epic with two very different guitar solos from the master

2- Cavatina Stanley Myers The perfect guitar composition

3- Soon- Yes Cosmic and optimistic with interesting use of pedal steel. This is the album version though yesshows live is better

4- Claire de Lune -Debussy sad beautiful mysterious and romantic. I like this flute version which I picked up in a store in Boston many moons ago.

5- Brian Eno -An Ending. Ascent (but not in a ascension way lol) never get bored of this one. Ambient synths at their best.

Emergency bonus track Neil Young Through my sails. You could do a nice acoustic version on the island

Plus a nice bottle of vino or two

I do appreciate Music but if I was stranded on an island and lucky enough to have no cars, no airplanes , no trains to pollute my ears with their noises and no other human being to talk to, I would love to spend my time in contemplation listening to the music nature does bringing to Heart what Mother says.

I am still in the process of making my own top 100 list which I would (could) take with me, so it is a pretty difficult task to decide about the top 5 (I would prefer to take my top 100 Wink).

Anyway, here it is, in no particular order:

    1. Don't dream it's over - Crowded House

    2. Through the baricades - Spandau Ballet

    3. Here I go again - Whitesnake

    4. More then words - Extreme

    5. Afrika - Toto
