UNITED NATIONS, Sep. 26, 2012 (Reuters) — WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange, speaking via a choppy video feed from his virtual house arrest in London, lashed out at U.S. President Barack Obama on Wednesday for supporting freedom of speech in the Middle East while simultaneously "persecuting" his organization for leaking diplomatic cables...

    Fascinating reading...

Assange has become public enemy number one of the great powers since he has gained the classified records of these long conversations about how to cripple the economies of South America, how to take away their energy resources and prevent their recovery; how to prevent their governments from pushing through Keynesian economic plans instead of applying the dictates of the IMF, whose sole purpose is to pursue a neo-colonialist policy principally for the benefit of Spain, Italy and Germany, with British capital.

On August 3 in New York, Ecuador became the first nation in the Americas and only nation in the Western world since 1948, to apply the concept of “immoral debt” or the political and technical refusal to pay foreign debts because they were made by previous governments through corruption, in violation of constitutional laws and requirements.

This is just too unbelievable. What lies will they come up with next? When information is freely given does that mean the person's organization receiving the information is a spy? Hardly - when this information is made public to expose patterns of corruption and abuse of public trust.

The US military has shown a startling lack of grip on reality by designating Wikileaks and its "world's worst date" leader Julian Assange as military enemies.
According to the US, Assange is now equal to the Taliban and the al-Qaeda terrorist network. The investigation focused on whether the analyst, who had a top-secret security clearance and access to the US military's Secret Internet Protocol Router network, had disclosed classified or sensitive information to WikiLeaks supporters, described as an "anti-US and/or anti-military group". At the time, the analyst's access to classified information was suspended but investigators closed the case without laying charges. The analyst denied leaking information.

WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange addressed the United Nation via satellite on Wednesday evening to speak out on human rights, and used his address to attack the United States' ongoing policy of persecuting whistleblowers. Jesselyn Radack is a whistleblower herself and went public with allegations concerning her former employer: the US Justice Department. Now Radack weighs in on the latest involving Assange, who remains under Ecuadorian protection at that country's embassy in London. She discusses the WikiLeaks founder's speech with RT's Kristine Frazao moments after the United Nations heard from Mr. Assange himself.

DemocracyNow.org - Documents obtained under the Freedom of Information Act show WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange may have been designated an "enemy of the state" by the United States. U.S. Air Force counter-intelligence documents show military personnel who contact WikiLeaks or its supporters may be at risk of being charged with "communicating with the enemy" — a military crime that carries a maximum sentence of death. We speak to attorney Michael Ratner, president emeritus of the Center for Constitutional Rights and a legal advisor to Assange and WikiLeaks.

Declassified Documents Reveal US Military Designated Assange ‘Enemy of State’

This is the same designation held by al-Qaeda, and it means that Assange could be killed or detained without trial

by John Glaser, September 26, 2012

Newly declassified documents have revealed that the US military designated WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange an enemy of the state, who can be killed or detained without trial.

The documents were released under a Freedom of Information Act request for an investigation into a US Air Force cyber analyst who allegedly expressed support for WikiLeaks and attended pro-Assange demonstrations.

The investigation, the documents reveal, was meant to determine whether this analyst, who had a top-secret security clearance, had given classified information to WikiLeaks supporters, who the documents describe as an “anti-US and/or anti-military group.”

The documents allege this suspect may have been “communicating with the enemy, 104-D,” an article in the US Uniform Code of Military Justice that prohibits military personnel from “communicating, corresponding or holding intercourse with the enemy,” the same designation held by al-Qaeda.

Assange’s US attorney, Michael Ratner, claims this designation has very dangerous implications and could be interpreted as a green light to kill or detain Assange without charge or trial.

“It appears that Julian Assange and WikiLeaks are the ‘enemy.’ An enemy is dealt with under the laws of war, which could include killing, capturing, detaining without trial, etc.,” Ratner warned.

WikiLeaks is nothing more than a publishing platform and Julian Assange is properly understood as a journalist. For the US military to designate him in the same class as al-Qaeda militants is the greatest affront to first amendment press freedoms in a very long time.

On Wednesday, Wikileaks founder Julian Assange plans to address the United Nations General Assembly in New York City from his make-shift prison in the Ecuadoran Embassy in London where he has been trapped for several months. Assange hopes to bring attention to his case and believes he can help strengthen human rights across the globe; this after the UK has threatened to extradite him to Sweden where he faces sexual assault charges. Kevin Gosztola, a blogger with FireDogLake.com, joins to explain what we can expect from the whistleblower.

    PRECEDENT … Daniel Ellsberg >>>>
In 1969, he photocopied the 7,000 page study and gave it to the Senate Foreign Rel Com; in 1971 he gave it to the NewYT, the Wash Post and 17 newspapers. His trial, on twelve felony counts posing a possible sentence of 115 years, was dismissed in 1973 on grounds of governmental misconduct against him, which led to the convictions of several White House aides and figured in the impeachment proceedings against President Nixon.
