A German company borrows the materials and manufacturing process of OLED displays to make a new kind of solar panel. A startup in Germany has developed a new kind of solar panel made of small, organic molecules deposited on polyester films. The technology is similar to what's used for OLED displays for phones and flat-screen TVs. The panels are flexible, and far lighter than conventional solar panels, yet in some locations—particularly where it's hot or cloudy—they can generate just as much electricity as a conventional solar panel. read more at link above...

Unfortunately, they're still facing a problem that these organic organisms are only capable of emiting light for few years only, and as far as I remember reading an article last year in one german magazin, they're still trying to find a way to make this possible i.e. to find the proper balance between the production costs vs. duration of life of these organisms.
