Thank you for contacting me regarding the new provisions for detainees proposed in Sections 1031 and 1032 of S. 1253, the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2012. I welcome your thoughts and comments.

Section 1031 of the NDAA establishes guidelines to allow U.S. Armed Forces to detain "covered persons" captured during hostilities as unprivileged enemy combatants, pending disposition under the laws of war. The provision defines a "covered person" as a person who planned, authorized, committed, or aided the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. This provision also applies to individuals who support al Qaeda, the Taliban, or associated forces that are engaged in hostilities against the United States or its coalition partners.

Section 1032 requires U.S. Armed Forces to hold in custody as an unprivileged enemy combatant any person who is a member or part of al Qaeda or an affiliated entity, and who participated in planning or carrying out an attack or attempted attack against the United States or its coalition partners. The requirement does not extend to citizens of the United States. Also, the Secretary of Defense is authorized to waive required detention.

    S. 1253 has passed the Senate Armed Services Committee, and is currently awaiting consideration by the full Senate. Should this legislation be brought to the Senate floor, you may be certain that I will keep your views in mind.

I appreciate hearing from you, and I hope that you will not hesitate to contact me on any issue that is important to you.

    Sincerely,
    Kay Bailey Hutchison
    United States Senator

The requirement does not extend to citizens of the United States. Also, the Secretary of Defense is authorized to waive required detention.

So then do the above two sentences mean that They can waive Rendition if They see It as being Unwarranted ?

    IE - As a US Citizen;

    > "If We're kind of wrong about You and We figure that out - We can then let You go with no Repercussions or Penalties applied to Us - The US Govt. or Its Agents - For having detained and / or harrassed You in the first place..."

    Huh ?

    Whoa - TY...

Gee - What a bunch of Disingenuous Pricks. How do these Guys even get Elected ?

Well to answer your question, first they have to raise one million dollars in two months to be considered for office and if they're a Republicon or a Teabagger they'll then get sponsored (owned) by corporate masters. Next, they swear by an oath to protect taxes for the wealthiest 1% and are expected to follow cookie-cutter legislation set forth by the ALEC (American Legislative Council). If you don't Grover Norquist threatens to have you primaried and replaced by someone who WILL comply. ALEC legislation is designed to dismantle local and state government, selling off the public good to corporations for privatization. Because schools, police and fire depts should make a profit!

From there conservatives have control over Diebold voting machines, where over at Bradblog.com they are uncovering countless breachs, programming errors and evidence of election fraud.

Basically politicians are bought and paid for, then they have to fix the numbers to win the election...many Democrats are also guilty of following the same path, but not all. Particularly at the local level there are still good Dem's working hard for the best interests of their constituents.

Unfortunately the entire right wing of the GOP are wholly owned subsidiary's of the Koch brothers, robber barons who have spent the last 30 years manipulating and shaping GOP policy from behind the scenes. They own the energy industry, the corporate media and now they control the entire right wing.

So that's how a majority of politicians get elected. Until we get private, or corporate money out of politics this is what we get...politicians who should wear jumpsuits showing patchs with logo's from their corporate masters so we know who they're working for.

Hehehehe - Well thanks Ascending Starseed but the question was pretty much rhetorical...

More like an "I just can't believe these Guys even have a clue as to what Our point of view is..."

    Wink

They're Aliens for that more than anything. That They can't understand or relate in any way to the common Person's World anymore | At all | Makes Them this to Us now...
