Mountain City and Trade TN After Hurricane Helene -
Survivors Need Hope - The Hillbilly Kitchen
    Oct 13, 2024  MOUNTAIN CITY

This is footage from the aftermath of Hurricane Helene in the northeastern most county of Tennessee, Johnson County. This area is poor and sparsely populated. The news isn't covering it and the politicians aren't visiting. Homes are gone, churches were washed away, roads are gone and homes are cut off. Many people are still without power. There are families living in tents and the harsh mountain winter is coming.

The people of Johnson County are strong determined folks, who are doing everything they can to help one another. Every farmer with a tractor was out helping. Every neighbor with a chainsaw was cutting the endless downed trees. The heavy equipment you saw toward the end of the video belongs to a local construction company. They have been running nonstop repairing washed out roads so their neighbors could get out and lineman could get in to restore power. We passed crew after crew of lineman. We were told that the trees were cleared from the roads so all this work could start by Team Rubicon, a veteran lead humanitarian organization and the US Forest Service. A portion of The Cherokee National Forest is in Johnson County. The campgrounds, picnic areas, roads and especially the streams and rivers inside the National Forest have all been damaged in both Tennessee and North Carolina.

We and I mean all of us together are going to do what we can to help those survived by the disaster of Hurricane Helene. You are their hope. All of the money sent to The Hillbilly Kitchen PayPal is going towards housing for survivors who have lost their homes and materials to repair damaged homes so they can be moved back into. I am not taking any fees or expenses out. We will also be organizing a few work parties. If you are interested in providing some labor please email hillbillyhurricane24@yahoo.com

This is a PayPal link. YouTube keeps 30% of gifts given on here. PayPal's fees are far less. I am not asking for money and I am not a 501. I am accountable to God and you have my word that I will take supplies with every penny sent directly to those affected by Hurricane Helena. God Bless You!!!

    Separating Truth From Rumors |
    Looting & Body Count #hurricanehelene

In this video, we’re covering the aftermath of Hurricane Helene and its devastating impact on local communities, we discuss body count and the blow to tourism in NC, which is hitting some people’s livelihoods even harder. The areas discussed are not in order. I’m not an expert in this area, so I encourage you to do your own research, but here’s what I’ve learned from my experience on the ground:

    1. Permanent Damage: Some areas are beyond repair, declared unsafe due to structural damage, contamination, or flood risks. When property is condemned under eminent domain, governments offer compensation, but I don’t believe it’s ever enough—especially considering the emotional toll and the loss of businesses.
    2. FEMA Response: FEMA provides aid through small grants and low-interest loans, but they don’t rebuild homes. Their assistance, like temporary funding for hotel stays, is often slow, and loans must be repaid. Make sure to do your own research if you’re impacted.
    3. National Guard
    4. Looting vs. Theft: While looting has occurred, it’s not as widespread as rumors suggest. In many cases, thefts happen when people take supplies after recovery operations pause for the day. Communities have been distributing resources, so stealing is generally unnecessary.
    5. Community First: Your strongest tool in survival is your community. I’ve witnessed locals, fire departments, and volunteers taking the lead in recovery efforts. Many are understaffed, but they’re stepping up in a big way when it matters most.
    6. Local Leadership: Initially, organization and leadership were lacking. But local leaders, along with nonprofits like the U.S. Men’s Academy and volunteers implemented key systems like daily meetings and coordination boards, helping to restore a sense of order and normalcy. One to three meals are being served at a lot of different places which has been axon to see!
    7. Prepper Community Evaluation: I’ve developed the TRUST acronym to evaluate potential members of your prepper community: Trustworthy, Reliable, Useful, Suitable, and Teachable. Building a strong core group is vital for recovery and rebuilding in times of disaster but even more importantly beforehand. I emphasize this aspect of prepping all the time on my channel.
